1. அப்பொழுது எப்பிராயீம் மனுஷர் அவனை நோக்கி: நீ மீதியானியர்மேல் யுத்தம் பண்ணப்போகிறபோது, எங்களை அழைப்பிக்கவில்லையே, இப்படி நீ எங்களுக்குச் செய்தது என்ன என்று, அவனோடே பலத்த வாக்குவாதம்பண்ணினார்.

1. Then the men of Ephraim sayde vnto him, Why hast thou serued vs thus that thou calledst vs not, when thou wentest to fight with the Midianites? and they chode with him sharply.

2. அதற்கு அவன்: நீங்கள் செய்ததற்கு நான் செய்தது எம்மாத்திரம்? அபியேஸ்ரியரின் திராட்சப்பழத்தின் முழு அறுப்பைப்பார்க்கிலும், எப்பிராயீமரின் மீதியான அறுப்பு அதிகம் அல்லவா?

2. To whom he said, What haue I now done in comparison of you? is not the gleaning of grapes of Ephraim better, then the vintage of Abiezer?

3. தேவன் உங்கள் கையிலே மீதியானியரின் அதிபதிகளாகிய ஓரேபையும் சேபையும் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தாரே; நீங்கள் செய்ததிலும் நான் செய்யக்கூடியது எம்மாத்திரம் என்றான்; இந்த வார்த்தையை அவன் சொன்னபோது, அவன் மேலிருந்த அவர்களுடைய கோபம் ஆறிற்று.

3. God hath deliuered into your handes the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb: and what was I able to do in comparison of you? and when he had thus spoken, then their spirits abated toward him.

4. கிதியோன் யோர்தானுக்கு வந்தபோது, அவனும் அவனோடிருந்த முந்நூறுபேரும் அதைக் கடந்துபோய், விடாய்த்திருந்தும் (சத்துருவை) பின்தொடர்ந்தார்கள்.

4. And Gideon came to Iorden to passe ouer, hee, and the three hundreth men that were with him, weary, yet pursuing them.

5. அவன் சுக்கோத்தின் மனுஷரை நோக்கி: என்னோடிருக்கிற ஜனத்திற்குச் சில அப்பங்களைக் கொடுங்கள்; அவர்கள் விடாய்த்திருக்கிறார்கள், நான் மீதியானியரின் ராஜாக்களாகிய சேபாவையும் சல்முனாவையும் பின்தொடருகிறேன் என்றான்.

5. And he said vnto the men of Succoth, Giue, I pray you, morsels of bread vnto the people that follow me (for they be wearie) that I may follow after Zebah, and Zalmunna Kings of Midian.

6. அதற்குச் சுக்கோத்தின் பிரபுக்கள்: உன் சேனைக்கு நாங்கள் அப்பம் கொடுக்கிறதற்குச் சேபா சல்முனா என்பவர்களின் கை உன் கைவசமாயிற்றோ என்றார்கள்.

6. And the princes of Succoth sayde, Are the handes of Zebah and Zalmunna nowe in thine hads, that we should giue bread vnto thine army?

7. அப்பொழுது கிதியோன் அவர்களை நோக்கி: கர்த்தர் சேபாவையும் சல்முனாவையும் என் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுக்கும்போது, உங்கள் மாம்சத்தை வனாந்தரத்தின் முள்ளுகளாலும் நெரிஞ்சில்களாலும் கிழித்துவிடுவேன் என்று சொல்லி,

7. Gideon then sayde, Therefore when the Lord hath deliuered Zebah and Zalmunna into mine hand, I will teare your flesh with thornes of the wildernes and with breers.

8. அவ்விடம் விட்டு, பெனூவேலுக்குப் போய், அவ்வூராரிடத்தில் அந்தப்படியே கேட்டான்; சுக்கோத்தின் மனுஷர் பிரதியுத்தரமாகச் சொன்னபடியே பெனூவேலின் மனுஷரும் அவனுக்குச் சொன்னார்கள்.

8. And he went vp thence to Penuel, and spake vnto them likewise, and the men of Penuel answered him, as the men of Succoth answered.

9. அப்பொழுது அவன், பெனூவேலின் மனுஷரைப் பார்த்து: நான் சமாதானத்தோடே திரும்பிவரும்போது, இந்தக் கோபுரத்தை இடித்துப்போடுவேன் என்றான்.

9. And he sayd also vnto the men of Penuel, When I come againe in peace, I will breake downe this towre.

10. சேபாவும் சல்முனாவும் அவர்களோடேகூட அவர்களுடைய சேனைகளும் ஏறக்குறைய பதினையாயிரம்பேர் கர்கோரில் இருந்தார்கள்; பட்டயம் உருவத்தக்க லட்சத்து இருபதினாயிரம்பேர் விழுந்தபடியால், கிழக்கத்தியாரின் சகல சேனையிலும் இவர்கள் மாத்திரம் மீந்திருந்தார்கள்.

10. Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their hostes with them, about fifteene thousande, all that were left of all the hostes of them of the East: for there was slaine an hundreth and twentie thousand men, that drew swordes.

11. கிதியோன் கூடாரங்களிலே குடியிருக்கிறவர்கள் வழியாய் நோபாகுக்கும், யொகிபெயாவுக்கும் கிழக்கே போய், அந்தச் சேனை பயமில்லை என்றிருந்தபோது, அதை முறிய அடித்தான்.

11. And Gideon went through them that dwelt in Tabernacles on the East side of Nobah and Iogbehah, and smote the hoste: for the hoste was carelesse.

12. சேபாவும் சல்முனாவும் ஓடிப்போனார்கள்; அவனோ அவர்களைத் தொடர்ந்து, சேபா சல்முனா என்னும் மீதியானியரின் இரண்டு ராஜாக்களையும் பிடித்து, சேனை முழுவதையும் கலங்கடித்தான்.

12. And when Zebah and Zalmunna fled, hee followed after them, and tooke the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and discomfited all the hoste.

13. யோவாசின் குமாரனாகிய கிதியோன் யுத்தம்பண்ணி, சூரியன் உதிக்கும் முன்னே திரும்பிவந்தபோது,

13. So Gideon the sonne of Ioash returned from battel, the sunne being yet hie,

14. சுக்கோத்தின் மனுஷரில் ஒரு வாலிபனைப் பிடித்து, அவனிடத்தில் விசாரித்தான்; அவன் சுக்கோத்தின் பிரபுக்களும் அதின் மூப்பருமாகிய எழுபத்தேழு மனுஷரின் பேரை அவனுக்கு எழுதிக்கொடுத்தான்.

14. And tooke a seruant of the me of Succoth, and inquired of him: and he wrote to him the princes of Succoth and the Elders thereof, euen seuentie and seuen men.

15. அவன் சுக்கோத்து ஊராரிடத்தில் வந்து: இதோ, விடாய்த்திருக்கிற உன் மனுஷருக்கு நாங்கள் அப்பம் கொடுக்கிறதற்குச் சேபா சல்முனா என்பவர்களின் கை உன் கைவசமாயிற்றோ என்று நீங்கள் என்னை நிந்தித்துச் சொன்ன சேபாவும் சல்முனாவும் இங்கே இருக்கிறார்கள் என்று சொல்லி,

15. And he came vnto the men of Succoth, and sayd, Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, by whome ye vpbrayded me, saying, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna already in thine hands, that we should giue bread vnto thy weary men?

16. பட்டணத்தின் மூப்பரைப் பிடித்து, வனாந்தரத்தின் முள்ளுகளையும் நெரிஞ்சில்களையும் கொண்டுவந்து, அவைகளால் சுக்கோத்தின் மனுஷருக்குப் புத்திவரப்பண்ணி,

16. Then he tooke the Elders of the citie, and thornes of the wildernes and breers, and did teare the men of Succoth with them.

17. பெனூவேலின் கோபுரத்தை இடித்து, அவ்வூர் மனுஷரையும் கொன்றுபோட்டான்.

17. Also he brake downe the towre of Penuel, and slew the men of the citie.

18. பின்பு அவன் சேபாவையும் சல்முனாவையும் நோக்கி: நீங்கள் தாபோரிலே கொன்றுபோட்ட அந்த மனுஷர் எப்படிப்பட்டவர்கள் என்று கேட்டான்; அதற்கு அவர்கள்: நீர் எப்படிப்பட்டவரோ அவர்களும் அப்படிப்பட்டவர்களே; ஒவ்வொருவனும் பார்வைக்கு ராஜகுமாரனைப்போலிருந்தான் என்றார்கள்.

18. Then saide he vnto Zebah and Zalmunna, What maner of men were they, whom ye slew at Tabor? and they answered, As thou art, so were they: euery one was like the children of a King.

19. அப்பொழுது அவன்: அவர்கள் என் சகோதரரும் என் தாயின் பிள்ளைகளுமாயிருந்தார்கள்; அவர்களை உயிரோடே வைத்திருந்தீர்களானால். உங்களைக் கொல்லாதிருப்பேன் என்று கர்த்தரின் ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்று சொல்லி,

19. And he said, They were my brethren, euen my mothers children: as the Lord liueth, if ye had saued their liues, I would not slay you.

20. தன் மூத்தகுமாரனாகிய யெத்தேரை நோக்கி: நீ எழுந்து, இவர்களை வெட்டிப்போடு என்றான்; அந்த வாலிபன் இளைஞனானபடியால் பயந்து தன் பட்டயத்தை உருவாதிருந்தான்.

20. Then he sayde vnto Iether his first borne sonne, Vp, and slay them: but the boy drew not his sword: for he feared, because he was yet yong.

21. அப்பொழுது சேபாவும் சல்முனாவும்: நீரே எழுந்து எங்கள்மேல் விழும்; மனுஷன் எப்படியோ அப்படியே அவன் பெலனும் இருக்கும் என்றார்கள்; கிதியோன் எழுந்து, சேபாவையும் சல்முனாவையும் கொன்றுபோட்டு, அவர்கள் ஒட்டகங்களின் கழுத்துகளில் இருந்த சாந்துக்காறைகளை எடுத்துக்கொண்டான்.

21. Then Zebah and Zalmunna sayd, Rise thou, and fall vpon vs: for as the man is, so is his strength. And Gideon arose and slew Zebah and Zalmunna, and tooke away the ornamentes, that were on their camels neckes.

22. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் மனுஷர் கிதியோனை நோக்கி: நீர் எங்களை மீதியானியர் கைக்கு நீங்கலாக்கிவிட்டபடியினால் நீரும் உம்முடைய குமாரனும், உம்முடைய குமாரனின் குமாரனும், எங்களை ஆளக்கடவீர்கள் என்றார்கள்.

22. Then the men of Israel sayd vnto Gideon, Reigne thou ouer vs, both thou, and thy sonne, and thy sonnes sonne: for thou hast deliuered vs out of the hand of Midian.

23. அதற்குக் கிதியோன்: நான் உங்களை ஆளமாட்டேன்; என் குமாரனும் உங்களை ஆளமாட்டான்; கர்த்தரே உங்களை ஆளுவாராக என்றான்.

23. And Gideon sayde vnto them, I will not reigne ouer you, neither shall my childe reigne ouer you, but the Lord shall reigne ouer you.

24. பின்பு கிதியோன் அவர்களை நோக்கி: உங்களிடத்தில் ஒரு காரியத்தைக் கேட்கிறேன்; நீங்கள் அவரவர் கொள்ளையிட்ட கடுக்கன்களை என்னிடத்தில் கொண்டுவாருங்கள் என்றான். அவர்கள் இஸ்மவேலராயிருந்தபடியினால் அவர்களிடத்தில் பொன்கடுக்கன்கள் இருந்தது.

24. Againe Gideon sayd vnto them, I would desire a request of you, that you would giue mee euery man the earings of his pray (for they had golden earings because they were Ismaelites)

25. இஸ்ரவேலர்: சந்தோஷமாய்க் கொடுப்போம் என்று சொல்லி, ஒரு வஸ்திரத்தை விரித்து, அவரவர் கொள்ளையிட்ட கடுக்கன்களை அதிலே போட்டார்கள்.

25. And they answered, Wee will giue them. And they spred a garment, and did cast therein euery man the earings of his pray.

26. பிறைச்சிந்தாக்குகளும், ஆரங்களும், மீதியானியரின் ராஜாக்கள் போர்த்துக்கொண்டிருந்த இரத்தாம்பரங்களும், அவர்களுடைய ஒட்டகங்களின் கழுத்துகளிலிருந்த சரப்பணிகளும் அல்லாமல், அவன் கேட்டு வாங்கின பொன்கடுக்கன்களின் நிறை ஆயிரத்து எழுநூறு பொன் சேக்கலின் நிறையாயிருந்தது.

26. And the weight of the golden earings that he required, was a thousande and seuen hundreth shekels of golde, beside collers and iewels, and purple rayment that was on the kings of Midian, and beside the cheynes that were about their camels neckes.

27. அதினால் கிதியோன் ஒரு ஏபோத்தை உண்டாக்கி, அதைத் தன் ஊரான ஒப்ராவிலே வைத்தான்; இஸ்ரவேலரெல்லாரும் அதைப் பின்பற்றிச் சோரம்போனார்கள்; அது கிதியோனுக்கும் அவன் வீட்டாருக்கும் கண்ணியாயிற்று.

27. And Gideon made an Ephod thereof, and put it in Ophrah his citie: and all Israel went a whoring there after it, which was the destruction of Gideon and his house.

28. இந்தப்பிரகாரம் மீதியானியர் திரும்ப தலையெடுக்கக்கூடாதபடிக்கு, இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்கு முன்பாகத் தாழ்த்தப்பட்டார்கள்; தேசமானது கிதியோனின் நாட்களில் நாற்பது வருஷம் அமைதலாயிருந்தது.

28. Thus was Midian brought lowe before the children of Israel, so that they lift vp their heads no more: and the countrey was in quietnes fourtie yeeres in the dayes of Gideon.

29. யோவாசின் குமாரனாகிய யெருபாகால் போய், தன் வீட்டிலே வாசமாயிருந்தான்.

29. Then Ierubbaal the sonne of Ioash went, and dwelt in his owne house.

30. கிதியோனுக்கு அநேகம் ஸ்திரீகள் இருந்தார்கள்; அவனுடைய கர்ப்பப்பிறப்பான குமாரர் எழுபதுபேர்.

30. And Gideon had seuentie sonnes begotten of his body: for he had many wiues.

31. சீகேமிலிருந்த அவனுடைய மறுமனையாட்டியும் அவனுக்கு ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்றாள்; அவனுக்கு அபிமெலேக்கு என்று பேரிட்டான்.

31. And his concubine that was in Shechem, bare him a sonne also, whose name he called Abimelech.

32. பின்பு யோவாசின் குமாரனாகிய கிதியோன் நல்ல விருத்தாப்பியத்திலே மரித்து, ஒப்ராவிலே தன் தகப்பனாகிய யோவாஸ் என்னும் அபியேஸ்ரியனுடைய கல்லறையில் அடக்கம்பண்ணப்பட்டான்.

32. So Gideon the sonne of Ioash dyed in a good age, and was buried in the sepulchre of Ioash his father in Ophrah, of the father of ye Ezrites.

33. கிதியோன் மரித்தபின் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் திரும்பவும் பாகால்களைப் பின்பற்றிச் சோரம்போய், பாகால்பேரீத்தைத் தங்களுக்கு தேவனாக வைத்துக்கொண்டார்கள்.

33. But when Gideon was dead, the children of Israel turned away and went a whoring after Baalim, and made Baal-berith their God.

34. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் தங்களைச் சுற்றிலுமிருந்த தங்கள் எல்லாச் சத்துருக்களின் கையினின்றும் தங்களை இரட்சித்த தங்கள் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தரை நினையாமலும்,

34. And the children of Israel remembred not the Lord their God, which had deliuered the out of the hands of all their enemies on euery side.

35. கிதியோன் என்னும் யெருபாகால் இஸ்ரவேலுக்குச் செய்த சகல நன்மைக்குத்தக்க தயவை அவன் வீட்டாருக்குப் பாராட்டாமலும் போனார்கள்.

35. Neither shewed they mercy on the house of Ierubbaal, or Gideon, according to al the goodnesse which he had shewed vnto Israel.
