1. கர்த்தருடைய தூதனானவர் கில்காலிலிருந்து போகீமுக்கு வந்து: நான் உங்களை எகிப்திலிருந்து புறப்படப்பண்ணி, உங்கள் பிதாக்களுக்கு ஆணையிட்ட தேசத்தில் நான் உங்களைக் கொண்டுவந்து விட்டு, உங்களோடே பண்ணின என் உடன்படிக்கையை நான் ஒருக்காலும் முறித்துப்போடுவதில்லை என்றும்,

1. And the messenger of Yahweh came up from Gilgal, unto Bochim. And he said I led you up out of Egypt, and brought you into the land, which I had sworn unto your fathers, And I said, I will not break my covenant with you, to times age-abiding;

2. நீங்கள் இந்த தேசத்தின் குடிகளோடே உடன்படிக்கைபண்ணாமல், அவர்கள் பலிபீடங்களை இடித்துவிடக்கடவீர்கள் என்றும் சொன்னேன்; ஆனாலும் என் சொல்லைக் கேளாதேபோனீர்கள்; ஏன் இப்படிச் செய்தீர்கள்?

2. But, ye, must not solemnise a covenant with the inhabitants of this land, Their altars, must ye tear down, But ye have not hearkened unto my voice, what is this ye have done?

3. ஆகையால் நான் அவர்களை உங்கள் முகத்திற்கு முன்பாகத் துரத்துவதில்லை என்றேன்; அவர்கள் உங்களை நெருக்குவார்கள்; அவர்களுடைய தேவர்கள் உங்களுக்குக் கண்ணியாவார்கள் என்றார்.

3. Wherefore also I said, I will not drive them out from before you, but they shall be your adversaries, and, their gods, shall become unto you a snare.

4. கர்த்தருடைய தூதனானவர் இந்த வார்த்தைகளை இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் எல்லாரோடும் சொல்லுகையில், ஜனங்கள் உரத்த சத்தமிட்டு அழுதார்கள்.

4. And it came to pass, when the messenger of Yahweh had spoken these words unto all the sons of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept.

5. அவ்விடத்திற்குப் போகீம் என்று பேரிட்டு, அங்கே கர்த்தருக்குப் பலியிட்டார்கள்.

5. So they called the name of that place, Bochim, and offered sacrifice there, unto Yahweh.

6. யோசுவா இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரராகிய ஜனங்களை அனுப்பிவிட்டபோது, அவர்கள் தேசத்தைச் சுதந்தரித்துக்கொள்ள அவரவர் தங்கள்தங்கள் சுதந்தர வீதத்திற்குப் போனார்கள்.

6. Now, when Joshua had let the people go, the sons of Israel went their way, every man to his inheritance, to take possession of the land.

7. யோசுவாவின் சகல நாட்களிலும் கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேலுக்காகச் செய்த அவருடைய பெரிய கிரியைகளையெல்லாம் கண்டவர்களும், யோசுவாவுக்குப் பின்பு உயிரோடிருந்தவர்களுமாகிய மூப்பரின் சகல நாட்களிலும் ஜனங்கள் கர்த்தரைச் சேவித்தார்கள்.

7. And the people served Yahweh all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work of Yahweh which he had wrought for Israel.

8. நூனின் குமாரனாகிய யோசுவா என்னும் கர்த்தரின் ஊழியக்காரன் நூற்றுப்பத்து வயதுள்ளவனாய் மரணமடைந்தான்.

8. So then Joshua, the son of Nun, the servant of Yahweh, died, being a hundred and ten years old.

9. அவனை எப்பிராயீமின் மலைத்தேசத்திலுள்ள காயாஸ் மலைக்கு வடக்கேயிருக்கிற அவனுடைய சுதந்தரத்தின் எல்லையாகிய திம்னாத்ஏரேசிலே அடக்கம்பண்ணினார்கள்.

9. And they buried him within the bounds of his inheritance, in Timnath-heres, in the hill country of Ephraim, on the north of Mount Gaash.

10. அக்காலத்தில் இருந்த அந்தச் சந்ததியார் எல்லாரும் தங்கள் பிதாக்களுடன் சேர்க்கப்பட்டபின்பு, கர்த்தரையும், அவர் இஸ்ரவேலுக்காகச் செய்த கிரியையையும் அறியாத வேறொரு சந்ததி அவர்களுக்குப்பின் எழும்பிற்று.

10. All that generation also, were gathered unto their fathers, and there arose another generation, after them, who had not known Yahweh, nor even the work which he had wrought for Israel.

11. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்குப் பொல்லாப்பானதைச் செய்து, பாகால்களைச் சேவித்து,

11. So the sons of Israel did the thing that was wicked in the sight of Yahweh, and served the Baals;

12. தங்கள் பிதாக்களை எகிப்துதேசத்திலிருந்து புறப்படப்பண்ணின அவர்களுடைய தேவனாகிய கர்த்தரை விட்டு, தங்களைச் சுற்றிலும் இருக்கிற ஜனங்களுடைய தேவர்களாகிய அந்நிய தேவர்களைப் பின்பற்றிப்போய், அவர்களைப் பணிந்துகொண்டு, கர்த்தருக்குக் கோபமூட்டினார்கள்.

12. and forsook Yahweh, the God of their fathers, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt, and went after other gods, from among the gods of the peoples who were round about them, and bowed themselves down unto them, and angered Yahweh.

13. அவர்கள் கர்த்தரை விட்டு, பாகாலையும் அஸ்தரோத்தையும் சேவித்தார்கள்.

13. Yea, they forsook Yahweh, and did service unto the Baal and unto Ashtaroth.

14. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேலின் மேல் கோபமூண்டவராகி, அவர்கள் அப்புறம் தங்கள் சத்துருக்களுக்கு முன்பாக நிற்கக்கூடாதபடி கொள்ளையிடுகிற கொள்ளைக்காரர் கையில் அவர்களை ஒப்புக்கொடுத்து, அவர்களைச் சுற்றிலும் இருக்கிற அவர்கள் பகைஞரின் கையிலே விற்றுப்போட்டார்.

14. Then kindled the anger of Yahweh upon Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of spoilers, who plundered them, and he sold them into the hand of their enemies round about, so that they could no longer stand before their enemies.

15. கர்த்தர் சொல்லியபடியும், கர்த்தர் அவர்களுக்கு ஆணையிட்டிருந்தபடியும், அவர்கள் புறப்பட்டுப்போகிற இடமெல்லாம் கர்த்தருடைய கை தீமைக்கென்றே அவர்களுக்கு விரோதமாயிருந்தது; மிகவும் நெருக்கப்பட்டார்கள்.

15. Whithersoever they went out, the hand of Yahweh was found to be against them for misfortune, as spake Yahweh, and as sware Yahweh unto them, and they were distressed exceedingly.

16. கர்த்தர் நியாயாதிபதிகளை எழும்பப்பண்ணினார்; அவர்கள் கொள்ளையிடுகிறவர்களின் கைக்கு அவர்களை நீங்கலாக்கி இரட்சித்தார்கள்.

16. And, though Yahweh raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of them that plundered them,

17. அவர்கள் தங்கள் நியாயாதிபதிகளின் சொல்லைக் கேளாமல், அந்நிய தேவர்களைப் பின்பற்றிச் சோரம்போய், அவைகளைப் பணிந்துகொண்டார்கள்; தங்கள் பிதாக்கள் கர்த்தரின் கற்பனைகளுக்குக் கீழ்ப்படிந்து நடந்த வழியை அவர்கள் சீக்கிரமாய் விட்டு விலகி, அவர்கள் செய்தபடி செய்யாமற்போனார்கள்.

17. yet, even unto their judges, did thy not hearken, for they went unchastely astray after other gods, and bowed themselves down to them, they turned aside speedily out of the way wherein their fathers who hearkened unto the commandments of Yahweh, walked, they did not so.

18. கர்த்தர் அவர்களுக்கு நியாயாதிபதிகளை எழும்பப்பண்ணுகிறபோது, கர்த்தர் நியாயாதிபதியோடேகூட இருந்து அந்த நியாயாதிபதியின் நாட்களிலெல்லாம் அவர்கள் சத்துருக்களின் கைக்கு அவர்களை நீங்கலாக்கி இரட்சித்துவருவார்; அவர்கள் தங்களை இறுகப்பிடித்து ஒடுக்குகிறவர்களினிமித்தம் தவிக்கிறதினாலே, கர்த்தர் மனஸ்தாபப்படுவார்.

18. And, when Yahweh raised them up judges, then was Yahweh with the judges, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies, all the days of the judge, for Yahweh was grieved at their outcry, because of them who oppressed them, and ill-treated them.

19. நியாயாதிபதி மரணமடைந்த உடனே, அவர்கள் திரும்பி, அந்நிய தேவர்களைப் பின்பற்றவும் சேவிக்கவும் பணிந்துகொள்ளவும், தங்கள் பிதாக்களைப்பார்க்கிலும் கேடாய் நடந்து, தங்கள் கிர்த்தியங்களையும் தங்கள் முரட்டாட்டமான வழியையும் விடாதிருப்பார்கள்.

19. But, when the judge was dead, they again broke faith more than their fathers, by going their way after other gods, by serving them, and bowing themselves down to them, they ceased not from their doings nor from their stubborn way.

20. ஆகையால் கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் கோபமூண்டவராகி: இந்த ஜனங்கள் தங்கள் பிதாக்களுக்கு நான் கற்பித்த என் உடன்படிக்கையை மீறி என் சொல்லைக் கேளாதேபோனபடியால்,

20. So then the anger of Yahweh kindled upon Israel, and he said Forasmuch as this nation have transgressed my covenant, which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice,

21. யோசுவா மரித்துப் பின்வைத்துப்போன ஜாதிகளில் ஒருவரையும், நான் இனி அவர்களுக்கு முன்பாகத் துரத்திவிடாதிருப்பேன்.

21. I also, will no further dispossess a man from before them, from among the nations which Joshua left remaining, when he died;

22. அவர்கள் பிதாக்கள் கர்த்தரின் வழியைக் கவனித்ததுபோல, அவர்கள் அதிலே நடக்கும்படிக்கு, அதைக் கவனிப்பார்களோ இல்லையோ என்று, அவர்களைக்கொண்டு இஸ்ரவேலைச் சோதிப்பதற்காக அப்படிச் செய்வேன் என்றார்.

22. that I may, by them, put Israel to the proof, whether they are going to be observant of the way of Yahweh, to walk therein as their fathers observed it, or not.

23. அதற்காகக் கர்த்தர் அந்த ஜாதிகளை யோசுவாவின் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடாமலும், அவைகளைச் சீக்கிரமாய்த் துரத்திவிடாமலும் விட்டுவைத்தார்.

23. Thus then Yahweh left these nations, not dispossessing them speedily, neither had he delivered them into the hand of Joshua
