1. எப்பிராயீம் மனுஷர் ஏகமாய்க் கூடி வடக்கே புறப்பட்டுப்போய், யெப்தாவை நோக்கி: நீ எங்களை உன்னோடேகூட வரும்படி அழைப்பியாமல் அம்மோன் புத்திரர்மேல் யுத்தம்பண்ணப்போனதென்ன? உன் வீட்டையும் உன்னையும்கூட அக்கினியால் சுட்டுப்போடுவோம் என்றார்கள்.

1. The men of Ephraim were called to arms, and they crossed to Zaphon and said to Jephthah, 'Why did you cross over to fight against the Ammonites, and did not call us to go with you? We will burn your house over you with fire.'

2. அதற்கு யெப்தா: எனக்கும் என் ஜனத்திற்கும் அம்மோன் புத்திரரோடே பெரிய வழக்கு இருக்கும்போது, நான் உங்களைக் கூப்பிட்டேன்; நீங்கள் என்னை அவர்கள் கைக்கு நீங்கலாக்கி இரட்சிக்கவில்லை.

2. And Jephthah said to them, 'I and my people had a great feud with the Ammonites; and when I called you, you did not deliver me from their hand.

3. நீங்கள் என்னை இரட்சிக்கவில்லை என்று நான் கண்டபோது, நான் என் ஜீவனை என் கையிலே பிடித்துக்கொண்டு, அம்மோன் புத்திரருக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் போனேன்; கர்த்தர் அவர்களை என் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்; இப்படியிருக்க, நீங்கள் என்மேல் யுத்தம்பண்ண, இன்று என்னிடத்திற்கு வரவேண்டியது என்ன என்று சொன்னான்.

3. And when I saw that you would not deliver me, I took my life in my hand, and crossed over against the Ammonites, and the LORD gave them into my hand; why then have you come up to me this day, to fight against me?'

4. பின்பு யெப்தா கீலேயாத் மனுஷரையெல்லாம் கூட்டி, எப்பிராயீமரோடு யுத்தம்பண்ணினான்; எப்பிராயீமுக்கும் மனாசேக்கும் நடுவே குடியிருக்கிற கீலேயாத்தியரான நீங்கள் எப்பிராயீமைவிட்டு ஓடிப்போனவர்கள் என்று எப்பிராயீமர் சொன்னபடியினால், கீலேயாத் மனுஷர் அவர்களை முறிய அடித்தார்கள்.

4. Then Jephthah gathered all the men of Gilead and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, 'You are fugitives of Ephraim, you Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim and Manasseh.'

5. கீலேயாத்தியர் எப்பிராயீமுக்கு முந்தி யோர்தானின் துறைகளைப் பிடித்தார்கள்; அப்பொழுது எப்பிராயீமரிலே தப்பினவர்களில் யாராவது வந்து: நான் அக்கரைக்குப் போகட்டும் என்று சொல்லும்போது, கீலேயாத் மனுஷர்: நீ எப்பிராயீமனா என்று அவனைக் கேட்பார்கள்; அவன் அல்ல என்றால்,

5. And the Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites. And when any of the fugitives of Ephraim said, 'Let me go over,' the men of Gilead said to him, 'Are you an Ephraimite?' When he said, 'No,'

6. நீ ஷிபோலேத் என்று சொல் என்பார்கள்; அப்பொழுது அவன் அப்படி உச்சரிக்கக்கூடாமல், சிபோலேத் என்பான்; அப்பொழுது அவனைப் பிடித்து, யோர்தான் துறையிலே வெட்டிப்போடுவார்கள்; அக்காலத்திலே எப்பிராயீமில் நாற்பத்தீராயிரம்பேர் விழுந்தார்கள்.

6. they said to him, 'Then say Shibboleth,' and he said, 'Sibboleth,' for he could not pronounce it right; then they seized him and slew him at the fords of the Jordan. And there fell at that time forty-two thousand of the Ephraimites.

7. யெப்தா இஸ்ரவேலை ஆறு வருஷம் நியாயம் விசாரித்தான்; பின்பு கீலேயாத்தியனான யெப்தா மரித்து, கீலேயாத்திலுள்ள ஒரு பட்டணத்தில் அடக்கம்பண்ணப்பட்டான்.

7. Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then Jephthah the Gileadite died, and was buried in his city in Gilead.

8. அவனுக்குப்பின்பு பெத்லெகேம் ஊரானாகிய இப்சான் இஸ்ரவேலை நியாயம் விசாரித்தான்.

8. After him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.

9. அவனுக்கு முப்பது குமாரரும் முப்பது குமாரத்திகளும் இருந்தார்கள்; முப்பது குமாரத்திகளையும் புறத்திலே விவாகம்பண்ணிக்கொடுத்து, தன் குமாரருக்கு முப்பது பெண்களைப் புறத்திலே கொண்டான்; அவன் இஸ்ரவேலை ஏழு வருஷம் நியாயம் விசாரித்தான்.

9. He had thirty sons; and thirty daughters he gave in marriage outside his clan, and thirty daughters he brought in from outside for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.

10. பின்பு இப்சான் மரித்து, பெத்லெகேமிலே அடக்கம்பண்ணப்பட்டான்.

10. Then Ibzan died, and was buried at Bethlehem.

11. அவனுக்குப் பின்பு செபுலோனியனாகிய ஏலோன் இஸ்ரவேலை நியாயம் விசாரித்தான்; அவன் பத்து வருஷம் இஸ்ரவேலை நியாயம் விசாரித்தான்.

11. After him Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.

12. பின்பு செபுலோனியனாகிய ஏலோன் மரித்து, செபுலோன் தேசமான ஆயலோன் ஊரில் அடக்கம் பண்ணப்பட்டான்.

12. Then Elon the Zebulunite died, and was buried at Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.

13. அவனுக்குப்பின்பு இல்லேலின் குமாரனாகிய பிரத்தோனியனான அப்தோன் இஸ்ரவேலை நியாயம் விசாரித்தான்.

13. After him Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite judged Israel.

14. அவனுக்கு நாற்பது குமாரரும் முப்பது பேரப்பிள்ளைகளும் இருந்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் எழுபது கழுதைகளின்மேல் ஏறுவார்கள்; அவன் இஸ்ரவேலை எட்டு வருஷம் நியாயம் விசாரித்தான்.

14. He had forty sons and thirty grandsons, who rode on seventy asses; and he judged Israel eight years.

15. பின்பு பிரத்தோனியனான இல்லேலின் குமாரனாகிய அப்தோன் மரித்து, எப்பிராயீம் தேசத்தில் அமலேக்கியர் மலையிலிருக்கிற பிரத்தோனிலே அடக்கம்பண்ணப்பட்டான்.

15. Then Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried at Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.
