1. உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உனக்குக் கொடுக்கும் தேசத்தின் ஜாதிகளை உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் வேரற்றுப்போகப்பண்ணுவதினால், நீ அவர்கள் தேசத்தைச் சுதந்தரித்துக்கொண்டு, அவர்கள் பட்டணங்களிலும் அவர்கள் வீடுகளிலும் குடியேறும்போது,

1. 'When the LORD your God cuts off the nations whose land the LORD your God gives you, and you dispossess them and dwell in their cities and in their houses,

2. நீ உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உனக்குச் சுதந்தரிக்கக் கொடுக்கும் உன் தேசத்தின் நடுவிலே, உனக்காக மூன்று பட்டணங்களைப் பிரித்துவைக்கக்கடவாய்.

2. you shall set apart three cities for you in the land which the LORD your God gives you to possess.

3. கொலைசெய்தவன் எவனும் அங்கே ஓடிப்போகும்படி உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உன்னைச் சுதந்தரிக்கப்பண்ணப்போகிற உன் தேசத்தின் எல்லையை நீ மூன்று பங்காகப் பகுத்து அதற்கு வழியை உண்டுபண்ணக்கடவாய்.

3. You shall prepare the roads, and divide into three parts the area of the land which the LORD your God gives you as a possession, so that any manslayer can flee to them.

4. கொலைசெய்து அங்கே ஓடிப்போய், உயிரோடிருக்கத்தக்கவன் யாரென்றால்: தான் முன்னே பகைத்திராத பிறனொருவனை மனதறியாமல் கொன்றவன்தானே.

4. 'This is the provision for the manslayer, who by fleeing there may save his life. If any one kills his neighbor unintentionally without having been at enmity with him in time past --

5. ஒருவன் விறகுவெட்ட மற்றொருவனோடே காட்டில் போய், மரத்தை வெட்டத் தன் கையிலிருந்த கோடரியை ஓங்கும்போது, இரும்பானது காம்பை விட்டுக் கழன்று மற்றவன்மேல் பட்டதினால் அவன் இறந்துபோனால்,

5. as when a man goes into the forest with his neighbor to cut wood, and his hand swings the axe to cut down a tree, and the head slips from the handle and strikes his neighbor so that he dies -- he may flee to one of these cities and save his life;

6. இரத்தப்பழிக்காரன் தன் மனம் எரிகையில் கொலைசெய்தவனை வழி தூரமாயிருக்கிறதினாலே பின்தொடர்ந்து பிடித்து, அவனைக் கொன்றுபோடாதபடிக்கு, இவன் அந்தப் பட்டணங்கள் ஒன்றில் ஓடிப்போய் உயிரோடிருப்பானாக; இவன் அவனை முன்னே பகைக்காதபடியினால், இவன்மேல் சாவுக்கான குற்றம் சுமரவில்லை.

6. lest the avenger of blood in hot anger pursue the manslayer and overtake him, because the way is long, and wound him mortally, though the man did not deserve to die, since he was not at enmity with his neighbor in time past.

7. இதினிமித்தம் மூன்று பட்டணங்களை உனக்காகப் பிரித்துவைக்கக்கடவாய் என்று நான் உனக்குக் கட்டளையிடுகிறேன்.

7. Therefore I command you, You shall set apart three cities.

8. நீ உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தரிடத்தில் அன்புகூர்ந்து, எந்நாளும் அவர் வழிகளில் நடப்பதற்காக, இன்று நான் உனக்குக் கற்பிக்கிற இந்த எல்லாக் கற்பனைகளையும் கைக்கொண்டு அதின்படி செய்து,

8. And if the LORD your God enlarges your border, as he has sworn to your fathers, and gives you all the land which he promised to give to your fathers --

9. உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உன் பிதாக்களுக்கு ஆணையிட்டபடியே, அவர் உன் எல்லையை விஸ்தாரமாக்கி, உன் பிதாக்களுக்குக் கொடுப்பேன் என்று சொன்ன தேசம் முழுவதையும் உனக்குக் கொடுத்தால்,

9. provided you are careful to keep all this commandment, which I command you this day, by loving the LORD your God and by walking ever in his ways -- then you shall add three other cities to these three,

10. அப்பொழுது உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உனக்குச் சுதந்தரமாகக் கொடுக்கும் உன் தேசத்தில் குற்றமில்லாத இரத்தம் சிந்தப்படுதிறதினால் உன்மேல் இரத்தப்பழி சுமராதபடிக்கு, இந்த மூன்று பட்டணங்களும் அல்லாமல் இன்னும் மூன்று பட்டணங்களை ஏற்படுத்தக்கடவாய்.

10. lest innocent blood be shed in your land which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance, and so the guilt of bloodshed be upon you.

11. ஒருவன் பிறனொருவனைப் பகைத்து, அவனுக்குப் பதிவிருந்து, அவனுக்கு விரோதமாய் எழும்பி, அவன் சாகும்படி அவனை அடித்து, இந்தப் பட்டணங்களில் ஒன்றில் ஓடிப்போயிருப்பானாகில்,

11. 'But if any man hates his neighbor, and lies in wait for him, and attacks him, and wounds him mortally so that he dies, and the man flees into one of these cities,

12. அந்தப் பட்டணத்தின் மூப்பர்கள் ஆள் அனுப்பி, அங்கேயிருந்து அவனைக் கொண்டுவரும்படி செய்து, அவன் சாகும்படிக்கு அவனை இரத்தப்பழி வாங்குகிறவன் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுக்கக்கடவர்கள்.

12. then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him from there, and hand him over to the avenger of blood, so that he may die.

13. உன் கண் அவனுக்கு இரங்கவேண்டாம்; குற்றமில்லாத இரத்தப்பழியை இஸ்ரவேலை விட்டு விலக்கக்கடவாய்; அப்பொழுது நீ நன்றாயிருப்பாய்.

13. Your eye shall not pity him, but you shall purge the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, so that it may be well with you.

14. உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உனக்குச் சுதந்தரமாகக் கொடுக்கும் தேசத்தில் உன் கைவசமாயிருக்கும் காணியாட்சியிலே முன்னோர்கள் குறித்திருக்கிற பிறனுடைய எல்லையை ஒற்றிப்போடாயாக.

14. 'In the inheritance which you will hold in the land that the LORD your God gives you to possess, you shall not remove your neighbor's landmark, which the men of old have set.

15. ஒருவன் எந்த அக்கிரமத்தையாவது எந்தப் பாவத்தையாவது செய்தான் என்று சொல்லப்பட்டால், ஒரே சாட்சியினால் நியாயந்தீர்க்கக்கூடாது; இரண்டு மூன்று சாட்சிகளுடைய வாக்கினாலே காரியம் நிலைவரப்படவேண்டும்.

15. 'A single witness shall not prevail against a man for any crime or for any wrong in connection with any offense that he has committed; only on the evidence of two witnesses, or of three witnesses, shall a charge be sustained.

16. ஒருவன்மேல் ஒரு குற்றத்தைச் சுமத்தும்படி, ஒரு பொய்ச்சாட்சிக்காரன் அவன்மேல் சாட்சி சொல்ல எழும்பினால்,

16. If a malicious witness rises against any man to accuse him of wrongdoing,

17. வழக்காடுகிற இருவரும் கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் அக்காலத்தில் இருக்கும் ஆசாரியர்களுக்கும் நியாயாதிபதிகளுக்கும் முன்பாக வந்து நிற்பார்களாக.

17. then both parties to the dispute shall appear before the LORD, before the priests and the judges who are in office in those days;

18. அப்பொழுது நியாயாதிபதிகள் நன்றாய் விசாரணை செய்யக்கடவர்கள்; சாட்சி கள்ளச்சாட்சி என்றும், தன் சகோதரன்மேல் அபாண்டமாய்க் குற்றஞ்சாற்றினான் என்றும் கண்டால்,

18. the judges shall inquire diligently, and if the witness is a false witness and has accused his brother falsely,

19. அவன் தன் சகோதரனுக்குச் செய்ய நினைத்தபடியே அவனுக்குச் செய்யக்கடவீர்கள்; இவ்விதமாய்த் தீமையை உன் நடுவிலிருந்து விலக்குவாயாக.

19. then you shall do to him as he had meant to do to his brother; so you shall purge the evil from the midst of you.

20. மற்றவர்களும் அதைக் கேட்டுப் பயந்து, இனி உங்களுக்குள்ளே அப்படிப்பட்ட தீமையைச் செய்யாதிருப்பார்கள்.

20. And the rest shall hear, and fear, and shall never again commit any such evil among you.

21. உன் கண் அவனுக்கு இரங்கவேண்டாம்; ஜீவனுக்கு ஜீவன், கண்ணுக்குக் கண், பல்லுக்குப் பல், கைக்குக் கை, காலுக்குக் கால் கொடுக்கப்படவேண்டும்.

21. Your eye shall not pity; it shall be life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
