1. இஸ்ரவேல் சித்தீமிலே தங்கியிருக்கையில், ஜனங்கள் மோவாபின் குமாரத்திகளோடே வேசித்தனம் பண்ணத்தொடங்கினார்கள்.

1. And Israel dwelt in Sittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab,

2. அவர்கள் தங்கள் தேவர்களுக்கு இட்ட பலிகளை விருந்துண்ணும்படி ஜனங்களை அழைத்தார்கள்; ஜனங்கள் போய்ப் புசித்து, அவர்கள் தேவர்களைப் பணிந்துகொண்டார்கள்.

2. which called the people unto the sacrifice of their gods. And the people ate and worshipped their gods,

3. இப்படி இஸ்ரவேலர் பாகால்பேயோரைப் பற்றிக்கொண்டார்கள்; அதனால் இஸ்ரவேலர்மேல் கர்த்தருடைய கோபம் மூண்டது.

3. and Israel coupled himself unto Baal Peor. Then the LORD was angry with Israel,

4. கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி: கர்த்தருடைய உக்கிரமான கோபம் இஸ்ரவேலை விட்டு நீங்கும்படி நீ ஜனங்களின் தலைவர் எல்லாரையும் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, அப்படிச் செய்தவர்களைச் சூரியனுக்கு எதிரே கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதானத்தில் தூக்கிப்போடும்படி செய் என்றார்.

4. and said unto Moses: take all the heads of the people, and hang them up unto the LORD against the son, that the wrath of the LORD may turn away from Israel.

5. அப்படியே மோசே இஸ்ரவேலின் நியாயாதிபதிகளை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் அவரவர் பாகால்பேயோரைப் பற்றிக்கொண்ட உங்கள் மனிதரைக் கொன்றுபோடுங்கள் என்றான்.

5. And Moses said unto the judges of Israel: go and slay those men that joined them selves unto Baal Peor.

6. அப்பொழுது மோசேயும் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரராகிய சபையார் அனைவரும் ஆசரிப்புக் கூடாரவாசலுக்கு முன்பாக அழுதுகொண்டு நிற்கையில், அவர்கள் கண்களுக்கு முன்பாக இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரில் ஒருவன் ஒரு மீதியானிய ஸ்திரீயைத் தன் சகோதரரிடத்தில் அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவந்தான்.

6. And behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren, a Madianitish wife even in the sight of Moses and in the sight of all the multitude of the children of Israel, as they were weeping in the door of the tabernacle of witness.

7. அதை ஆசாரியனாகிய ஆரோனின் குமாரனான எலெயாசாரின் மகன் பினெகாஸ் கண்டபோது, அவன் நடுச்சபையிலிருந்து எழுந்து, ஒரு ஈட்டியைத் தன்கையிலே பிடித்து,

7. And when Phineas the son of Eleazer the son of Aaron the priest saw it, he rose up out of the company and took a weapon in his hand,

8. இஸ்ரவேலனாகிய அந்த மனிதன் வேசித்தனம்பண்ணும் அறையிலே அவன் பின்னாலே போய், இஸ்ரவேல் மனிதனும் அந்த ஸ்திரீயுமாகிய இருவருடைய வயிற்றிலும் ஈட்டி உருவிப்போக அவர்களைக் குத்திப்போட்டான்; அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரில் உண்டான வாதை நின்றுபோயிற்று.

8. and went after the man of Israel into the whorehouse, and thrust them thorow: both the man of Israel and also the woman even thorow the belly of her. And the plague ceased from the children of Israel.

9. அந்த வாதையால் செத்தவர்கள் இருபத்துநாலாயிரம்பேர்.

9. And there died in the plague twenty four thousand.

10. கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி:

10. And the LORD spake unto Moses saying:

11. நான் என் எரிச்சலில் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரை நிர்மூலமாக்காதபடிக்கு, ஆசாரியனாகிய ஆரோனின் குமாரனான எலெயாசாரின் மகன் பினெகாஸ், என் நிமித்தம் அவர்கள் நடுவில் பக்திவைராக்கியம் காண்பித்ததினால், இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர்மேல் உண்டான என் உக்கிரத்தைத் திருப்பினான்.

11. Phineas the son of Eleazer the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned mine anger away from the children of Israel, because he was jealous for my sake among them, that I had not consumed the children of Israel in my jealousy.

12. ஆகையால், இதோ, அவனுக்கு என் சமாதானத்தின் உடன்படிக்கையைக் கட்டளையிடுகிறேன்.

12. Wherefore say: behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace,

13. and he shall have it and his seed after him, even the covenant of the priest's office for ever, because he was jealous for his God's(goddes) sake and made an atonement for the children of Israel.

14. மீதியானிய ஸ்திரீயோடே குத்துண்டு செத்த இஸ்ரவேல் மனிதருடைய பேர் சிம்ரி; அவன் சல்லூவின் குமாரனும், சிமியோனியரின் தகப்பன் வம்சத்தில் ஒரு பிரபுவுமாயிருந்தான்.

14. The name of the Israelite which was smitten with the Madianitish wife, was Simri the son of Salu, a lord of an ancient house among the Simeonites.

15. குத்துண்ட மீதியானிய ஸ்திரீயின் பேர் கஸ்பி, அவள் சூரின் குமாரத்தி, அவன் மீதியானியருடைய தகப்பன் வம்சத்தாரான ஜனங்களுக்குத் தலைவனாயிருந்தான்.

15. And the name of the Madianitish wife, was Cosbi the daughter of Zur and head over the people of an ancient house in Madian.

16. கர்த்தர் மோசேயை நோக்கி:

16. And the LORD spake unto Moses saying:

17. மீதியானியரை நெருக்கி அவர்களை வெட்டிப்போடுங்கள்.

17. vex the Madianites and smite them,

18. பேயோரின் சங்கதியிலும் பேயோரின் நிமித்தம் வாதையுண்டான நாளிலே குத்துண்ட அவர்கள் சகோதரியாகிய கஸ்பி என்னும் மீதியான் பிரபுவினுடைய குமாரத்தியின் சங்கதியிலும், அவர்கள் உங்களுக்குச் செய்த சர்ப்பனைகளினால் உங்களை மோசம்போக்கி நெருக்கினார்களே என்றார்.

18. for they have troubled you with their wiles with thee which they have beguiled you, thorow Peor and thorow their sister Cosbi the daughter of a lord in Madian, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor's sake.
