1. யூதாவின் ராஜாவாகிய எசேக்கியாவின் மனுஷர் பேர்த்தெழுதின சாலொமோனுடைய நீதிமொழிகள்:

1. These also are the sayings(proverbs) of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah gathered together.

2. காரியத்தை மறைப்பது தேவனுக்கு மேன்மை; காரியத்தை ஆராய்வதோ ராஜாக்களுக்கு மேன்மை.

2. It is the honour of God to keep a thing secret, but the king's honour is to search out a thing.

3. வானத்தின் உயரமும், பூமியின் ஆழமும், ராஜாக்களின் இருதயங்களும் ஆராய்ந்துமுடியாது.

3. The heaven is high, the earth is deep, and the kings' heart is unsearchable.

4. வெள்ளியினின்று களிம்பை நீக்கிவிடு, அப்பொழுது தட்டானால் நல்ல உடைமை பிறக்கும்.

4. Take the dross from the silver, and there shall be a clean vessel thereof.

5. ராஜாவின் முன்னின்று துஷ்டரை நீக்கிவிடு, அப்பொழுது அவனுடைய சிங்காசனம் நீதியினால் நிலைநிற்கும்.

5. Take away ungodliness from the king, and his seat shall be stablished with righteousness.

6. ராஜாவின் சமுகத்தில் மேன்மைபாராட்டாதே; பெரியோர்களுடைய ஸ்தானத்தில் நில்லாதே.

6. Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and prease not into the place of great men.

7. உன் கண்கள் கண்ட பிரபுவின் சமுகத்தில் நீ தாழ்த்தப்படுவது நல்லதல்ல; அவன் உன்னைப் பார்த்து: மேலே வா என்று சொல்வதே உனக்கு மேன்மை.

7. Better it is that it be said unto thee: Come up hither, than thou to be set down in the presence of the prince whom thou seest with thine eyes.

8. வழக்காடப் பதற்றமாய்ப் போகாதே; முடிவிலே உன் அயலான் உன்னை வெட்கப்படுத்தும்போது, நீ என்ன செய்யலாம் என்று திகைப்பாயே.

8. Be not hasty to go to the law, lest happily thou order thyself so that at the last, that thy neighbour put thee to shame.

9. நீ உன் அயலானுடனேமாத்திரம் உன் வியாஜ்யத்தைக்குறித்து வழக்காடு, மற்றவனிடத்தில் இரகசியத்தை வெளிப்படுத்தாதே.

9. Handle thy matter with thy neighbour himself, and discover not another man's secret:

10. மற்றப்படி அதைக் கேட்கிறவன் உன்னை நிந்திப்பான்; உன் அவமானம் உன்னைவிட்டு நீங்காது.

10. lest when men hear thereof, it turn to thy dishonour, and lest thine evil name do not cease.

11. ஏற்ற சமயத்தில் சொன்ன வார்த்தை வெள்ளித்தட்டில் வைக்கப்பட்ட பொற்பழங்களுக்குச் சமானம்.

11. A word spoken in due season, is like apples of gold in a silver dish.

12. கேட்கிற செவிக்கு, ஞானமாய்க் கடிந்துகொண்டு புத்திசொல்லுகிறவன், பொற்கடுக்கனுக்கும் அபரஞ்சிப் பூஷணத்திற்கும் சரி.

12. The correction of the wise is to an obedient ear, a golden chain and a Jewel of gold.

13. கோடைகாலத்தில் உறைந்தமழையின் குளிர்ச்சி எப்படியிருக்கிறதோ, அப்படியே உண்மையான ஸ்தானாபதியும் தன்னை அனுப்பினவனுக்கு இருப்பான்; அவன் தன் எஜமான்களுடைய ஆத்துமாவைக் குளிரப்பண்ணுவான்.

13. Like as the winter cool in the harvest, so is a faithful messenger to him that sent him, and refresheth his master's mind.

14. கொடுப்பேன் என்று சொல்லியும் கொடாமலிருக்கிற வஞ்சகன் மழையில்லாத மேகங்களுக்கும் காற்றுக்கும் சரி.

14. Whoso maketh great boasts and giveth nothing, is like clouds and wind without rain.

15. நீண்ட பொறுமையினால் பிரபுவையும் சம்மதிக்கப்பண்ணலாம்; இனிய நாவு எலும்பையும் நொறுக்கும்.

15. With patience may a prince be pacified, and with a soft tongue may rigorousness be broken.

16. தேனைக் கண்டுபிடித்தாயானால் மட்டாய்ச் சாப்பிடு; மிதமிஞ்சிச் சாப்பிட்டால் வாந்திபண்ணுவாய்.

16. If thou findest honey, eat so much as is sufficient for thee: lest thou be over full, and perbreak it out again.

17. உன் அயலான் சலித்து உன்னை வெறுக்காதபடிக்கு, அடிக்கடி அவன் வீட்டில் கால்வைக்காதே.

17. Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour's house, lest he be weary of thee, and so abhor thee.

18. பிறனுக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் பொய்ச்சாட்சி சொல்லுகிற மனுஷன் தண்டாயுதத்துக்கும் கட்கத்துக்கும் கூர்மையான அம்புக்கும் ஒப்பானவன்.

18. Who so beareth false witness against his neighbour, he is a very spear, a sword, and a sharp arrow.

19. ஆபத்துக்காலத்தில் துரோகியை நம்புவது உடைந்த பல்லுக்கும் மொழி புரண்ட காலுக்கும் சமானம்.

19. The hope of the ungodly in time of need, is like a rotten tooth and a slippery foot.

20. மனதுக்கமுள்ளவனுக்குப் பாட்டுகளைப் பாடுகிறவன், குளிர்காலத்தில் வஸ்திரத்தைக் களைகிறவனைப்போலவும், வெடியுப்பின்மேல் வார்த்த காடியைப்போலவும் இருப்பான்.

20. Who so singeth a song to a wicked heart, clotheth him with rags in the cold, and poureth vinegar upon chalk.

21. உன் சத்துரு பசியாயிருந்தால், அவனுக்குப் புசிக்க ஆகாரங்கொடு; அவன் தாகமாயிருந்தால், குடிக்கத் தண்ணீர் கொடு.

21. If thine enemy hunger, feed him: if he thirst, give him drink:

22. அதினால் நீ அவன் தலையின்மேல் எரிகிற தழல்களைக் குவிப்பாய்; கர்த்தர் உனக்குப் பலனளிப்பார்.

22. For so shalt thou heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.

23. வடகாற்று மழையையும், புறங்கூறுகிற நாவு கோபமுகத்தையும் பிறப்பிக்கும்.

23. The north wind driveth away the rain, even so doth an earnest sober countenance a backbiter's tongue.

24. சண்டைக்காரியோடே ஒரு பெரிய வீட்டில் குடியிருப்பதைப்பார்க்கிலும், வீட்டின்மேல் ஒரு மூலையில் தங்குவதே நலம்.

24. It is better to sit in a corner under the roof, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.

25. தூரதேசத்திலிருந்து வரும் நற்செய்தி விடாய்த்த ஆத்துமாவுக்குக் கிடைக்கும் குளிர்ந்த தண்ணீருக்குச் சமானம்.

25. A good report out of a far country, is like cold water to a thirsty soul.

26. துன்மார்க்கருக்கு முன்பாக நீதிமான் தள்ளாடுவது கலங்கின கிணற்றுக்கும் கெட்டுப்போன சுனைக்கும் ஒப்பாகும்.

26. A righteous man falling down before the ungodly, is like a troubled well and a spring that is destroyed.

27. தேனை மிகுதியாய் உண்பது நல்லதல்ல, தற்புகழை நாடுவதும் புகழல்ல.

27. Like as it is not good to eat too much honey, even so he that will search out high things, it shall be too heavy for him.

28. தன் ஆவியை அடக்காத மனுஷன் மதிலிடிந்த பாழான பட்டணம்போலிருக்கிறான்.

28. He that can not rule himself, is like a city which is broken down, and hath no walls.
