1. சாலொமோனின் நீதிமொழிகள்: ஞானமுள்ள மகன் தகப்பனைச் சந்தோஷப்படுத்துகிறான்; மூடத்தனமுள்ளவனோ தாய்க்குச் சஞ்சலமாயிருக்கிறான்.

1. The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son {is} the heaviness of his mother.

2. அநியாயத்தின் திரவியங்கள் ஒன்றுக்கும் உதவாது; நீதியோ மரணத்துக்குத் தப்புவிக்கும்.

2. Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.

3. கர்த்தர் நீதிமான்களைப் பசியினால் வருந்தவிடார்; துன்மார்க்கருடைய பொருளையோ அகற்றிவிடுகிறார்.

3. The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.

4. சோம்பற்கையால் வேலைசெய்கிறவன் ஏழையாவான்; சுறுசுறுப்புள்ளவன் கையோ செல்வத்தை உண்டாக்கும்.

4. He becometh poor that dealeth {with} a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

5. கோடைகாலத்தில் சேர்க்கிறவன் புத்தியுள்ள மகன்; அறுப்புகாலத்தில் தூங்குகிறவனோ இலச்சையை உண்டாக்குகிற மகன்.

5. He that gathereth in summer {is} a wise son: {but} he that sleepeth in harvest {is} a son that causeth shame.

6. நீதிமானுடைய சிரசின்மேல் ஆசீர்வாதங்கள் தங்கும்; கொடுமையோ துன்மார்க்கனுடைய வாயை அடைக்கும்.

6. Blessings {are} upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

7. நீதிமானுடைய பேர் புகழ்பெற்று விளங்கும்; துன்மார்க்கனுடைய பேரோ அழிந்துபோகும்.

7. The memory of the just {is} blessed: but the name of the wicked shall perish.

8. இருதயத்தில் ஞானமுள்ளவன் கட்டளைகளை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளுகிறான்; அலப்புகிற மூடனோ விழுவான்.

8. The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.

9. உத்தமமாய் நடக்கிறவன் பத்திரமாய் நடக்கிறான்; கோணலான வழிகளில் நடக்கிறவனோ கண்டுபிடிக்கப்படுவான்.

9. He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.

10. கண்சாடை காட்டுகிறவன் நோவு உண்டாக்குகிறான்; அலப்புகிற மூடன் விழுவான்.

10. He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.

11. நீதிமானுடைய வாய் ஜீவஊற்று; கொடுமையோ துன்மார்க்கனுடைய வாயை அடைக்கும்.

11. The mouth of a righteous {man is} a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

12. பகை விரோதங்களை எழுப்பும்; அன்போ சகல பாவங்களையும் மூடும்.

12. Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.

13. புத்திமானுடைய உதடுகளில் விளங்குவது ஞானம்; மதிகேடனுடைய முதுகுக்கு ஏற்றது பிரம்பு.

13. In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod {is} for the back of him that is void of understanding.

14. ஞானவான்கள் அறிவைச் சேர்த்து வைக்கிறார்கள்; மூடனுடைய வாய்க்குக் கேடு சமீபித்திருக்கிறது.

14. Wise {men} lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish {is} near destruction.

15. ஐசுவரியவானுடைய பொருள் அவனுக்கு அரணான பட்டணம்; ஏழைகளின் வறுமையோ அவர்களைக் கலங்கப்பண்ணும்.

15. The rich man's wealth {is} his strong city: the destruction of the poor {is} their poverty.

16. நீதிமானுடைய பிரயாசம் ஜீவனையும், துன்மார்க்கனுடைய விளைவோ பாவத்தையும் பிறப்பிக்கும்.

16. The labor of the righteous {tendeth} to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.

17. புத்திமதிகளைக் காத்துக்கொள்ளுகிறவன் ஜீவவழியில் இருக்கிறான்; கண்டனையை வெறுக்கிறவனோ மோசம்போகிறான்.

17. He {is in} the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.

18. பகையை மறைக்கிறவன் பொய் உதடன்; புறங்கூறுகிறவன் மதிகேடன்.

18. He that hideth hatred {with} lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, {is} a fool.

19. சொற்களின் மிகுதியில் பாவமில்லாமற்போகாது; தன் உதடுகளை அடக்குகிறவனோ புத்திமான்.

19. In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that restraineth his lips {is} wise.

20. நீதிமானுடைய நாவு சுத்தவெள்ளி; துன்மார்க்கனுடைய மனம் அற்பவிலையும் பெறாது.

20. The tongue of the just {is as} choice silver: the heart of the wicked {is} little worth.

21. நீதிமானுடைய உதடுகள் அநேகரைப் போஷிக்கும்; மூடரோ மதியீனத்தினால் மாளுவார்கள்.

21. The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.

22. கர்த்தரின் ஆசீர்வாதமே ஐசுவரியத்தைத் தரும்; அதனோடே அவர் வேதனையைக் கூட்டார்.

22. The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

23. தீவினைசெய்வது மூடனுக்கு விளையாட்டு; புத்திமானுக்கோ ஞானம் உண்டு.

23. {It is} as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.

24. துன்மார்க்கன் பயப்படும் காரியம் அவனுக்கு வந்து நேரிடும்; நீதிமான் விரும்புகிற காரியம் அவனுக்குக் கொடுக்கப்படும்.

24. The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

25. சுழல்காற்று கடந்துபோவதுபோல் துன்மார்க்கன் கடந்துபோவான்; நீதிமானோ நித்திய அஸ்திபாரமுள்ளவன்;

25. As the whirlwind passeth, so {is} the wicked no {more}: but the righteous {is} an everlasting foundation.

26. பற்களுக்குக் காடியும், கண்களுக்குப் புகையும் எப்படியிருக்கிறதோ, அப்படியே சோம்பேறியும் தன்னை அனுப்புகிறவர்களுக்கு இருக்கிறான்.

26. As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so {is} the sluggard to them that send him.

27. கர்த்தருக்குப் பயப்படுதல் ஆயுசு நாட்களைப் பெருகப்பண்ணும்; துன்மார்க்கருடைய வருஷங்களோ குறுகிப்போகும்.

27. The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

28. நீதிமான்களின் நம்பிக்கை மகிழ்ச்சியாகும்; துன்மார்க்கருடைய அபேட்சையோ அழியும்.

28. The hope of the righteous {shall be} gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

29. கர்த்தரின் வழி உத்தமர்களுக்கு அரண், அக்கிரமக்காரருக்கோ கலக்கம்.

29. The way of the LORD {is} strength to the upright: but destruction {shall be} to the workers of iniquity.

30. நீதிமான் என்றும் அசைக்கப்படுவதில்லை; துன்மார்க்கர் பூமியில் வசிப்பதில்லை.

30. The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.

31. நீதிமானுடைய வாய் ஞானத்தை வெளிப்படுத்தும்; மாறுபாடுள்ள நாவோ அறுப்புண்டுபோகும்.

31. The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.

32. நீதிமான்களுடைய உதடுகள் பிரியமானவைகளைப்பேச அறியும்; துன்மார்க்கருடைய வாயோ மாறுபாடுள்ளது.

32. The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked {speaketh} frowardness.
