1. அப்பொழுது தேமானியனான எலிப்பாஸ் பிரதியுத்தரமாக:

1. Then Eliphaz, the Temanite, answered and said,

2. ஒரு மனுஷன் விவேகியாயிருந்து, தனக்குத்தான் பிரயோஜனமாயிருக்கிறதினால் தேவனுக்குப் பிரயோஜனமாயிருப்பானோ?

2. Can a man be profitable unto God? For he that is wise is profitable unto himself.

3. நீர் நீதிமானாயிருப்பதினால் சர்வவல்லவருக்கு நன்மையுண்டாகுமோ? நீர் உம்முடைய வழிகளை உத்தமமாக்குகிறது அவருக்கு ஆதாயமாயிருக்குமோ?

3. [Is it] any pleasure to the Almighty that thou art justified? Or [is it] gain [to him] that thou makest thy ways perfect?

4. அவர் உமக்குப் பயந்து உம்மோடே வழக்காடி, உம்மோடே நியாயத்துக்கு வருவாரோ?

4. Will he reprove thee or will he enter with thee into judgment because he fears thee?

5. உம்முடைய பொல்லாப்பு பெரியதும், உம்முடைய அக்கிரமங்கள் முடிவில்லாதவைகளுமாய் இருக்கிறதல்லவோ?

5. Certainly thy wickedness is great and thine iniquities have no end.

6. முகாந்தரமில்லாமல் உம்முடைய சகோதரர் கையில் அடகுவாங்கி, ஏழைகளின் வஸ்திரங்களைப் பறித்துக்கொண்டீர்.

6. For thou didst take a pledge from thy brother without cause and stripped the naked of their clothing.

7. விடாய்த்தவனுக்குத் தாகத்துக்குத் தண்ணீர் கொடாமலும், பசித்தவனுக்கு போஜனம் கொடாமலும் போனீர்.

7. Thou didst not give water to drink to the weary, and thou hast withheld bread from the hungry.

8. பலவானுக்கே தேசத்தில் இடமுண்டாயிற்று; கனவான் அதில் குடியேறினான்.

8. But the man of means had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.

9. விதவைகளை வெறுமையாய் அனுப்பிவிட்டீர்; தாய்தகப்பன் இல்லாதவர்களின் புயங்கள் முறிக்கப்பட்டது.

9. Thou hast sent the widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

10. ஆகையால் கண்ணிகள் உம்மைச் சூழ்ந்திருக்கிறது; அசுப்பிலே உமக்கு வந்த பயங்கரம் உம்மைக் கலங்கப்பண்ணுகிறது.

10. Therefore, snares [are] round about thee, and sudden fear troubles thee

11. நீர் பார்க்கக்கூடாதபடிக்கு இருள் வந்தது, ஜலப்பிரவாகம் உம்மை மூடுகிறது.

11. or darkness, [that] thou canst not see, and abundance of waters cover thee.

12. தேவன் பரலோகத்தின் உன்னதங்களிலிருக்கிறார் அல்லவோ? நட்சத்திரங்களின் உயரத்தைப் பாரும், அவைகள் எத்தனை உயரமாயிருக்கிறது.

12. [Is] not God in the height of the heavens? Behold the height of the stars, how high they are!

13. நீர்: தேவன் எப்படி அறிவார், அந்தகாரத்துக்கு அப்புறத்திலிருக்கிறவர் நியாயம் விசாரிக்கக்கூடுமோ?

13. And thou shalt say, What does God know? How can he judge through the darkness?

14. அவர் பாராதபடிக்கு மேகங்கள் அவருக்கு மறைவாயிருக்கிறது; பரமண்டலங்களின் சக்கரத்திலே அவர் உலாவுகிறார் என்று சொல்லுகிறீர்.

14. Thick clouds are his hiding place, and he does not see; and he walks in the circuit of heaven.

15. அக்கிரம மாந்தர் பூர்வத்தில் நடந்த மார்க்கத்தைக் கவனித்துப் பார்த்தீரோ?

15. Dost thou desire to keep the old way which wicked men have trodden?

16. காலம் வருமுன்னே அவர்கள் வாடிப்போனார்கள்; அவர்களுடைய அஸ்திபாரத்தின்மேல் வெள்ளம் புரண்டது.

16. Who were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood.

17. தேவன் அவர்கள் வீடுகளை நன்மையால் நிரப்பியிருந்தாலும், அவர்கள் அவரை நோக்கி: எங்களைவிட்டு விலகும், சர்வவல்லவராலே எங்களுக்கு என்ன ஆகும் என்றார்கள்.

17. Who said unto God, Depart from us; and what can the Almighty do unto us?

18. ஆகையால் துன்மார்க்கரின் ஆலோசனை எனக்குத் தூரமாயிருப்பதாக.

18. He had filled their houses with good [things]. Therefore, the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

19. எங்கள் நிலைமை நிர்மூலமாகாமல், அவர்களுக்கு மீதியானதையோ அக்கினி பட்சித்ததென்பதை நீதிமான்கள் கண்டு சந்தோஷப்படுகிறார்கள்.

19. The righteous shall see [it] and be glad; and the innocent laughs them to scorn.

20. குற்றமில்லாதவன் அவர்களைப் பார்த்து நகைக்கிறான்.

20. Whereas our substance was not cut down, when the fire had consumed the rest of them.

21. நீர் அவரோடே பழகி சமாதானமாயிரும்; அதினால் உமக்கு நன்மைவரும்.

21. Make up thy friendship now with him, and thou shalt have peace; thereby good shall come unto thee.

22. அவர் வாயினின்று பிறந்த வேதப்பிரமாணத்தை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு, அவர் வார்த்தைகளை உம்முடைய இருதயத்தில் வைத்துக்கொள்ள வேண்டுகிறேன்.

22. Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.

23. நீர் சர்வவல்லவரிடத்தில் மனந்திரும்பினால், திரும்பக் கட்டப்படுவீர்; அக்கிரமத்தை உமது கூடாரத்துக்குத் தூரமாக்குவீர்.

23. If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tent;

24. அப்பொழுது தூளைப்போல் பொன்னையும், ஆற்றுக் கற்களைப்போல் ஓப்பீரின் தங்கத்தையும் சேர்த்துவைப்பீர்.

24. then thou shalt lay up gold as dust and the [gold] of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.

25. அப்பொழுது சர்வவல்லவர் தாமே உமக்குப் பசும்பொன்னும், உமக்குச் சொக்கவெள்ளியுமாயிருப்பார்.

25. And the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.

26. அப்பொழுது சர்வவல்லவர்மேல் மனமகிழ்ச்சியாயிருந்து, தேவனுக்கு நேராக உம்முடைய முகத்தை ஏறெடுப்பீர்.

26. For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty and shalt lift up thy face unto God.

27. நீர் அவரை நோக்கி விண்ணப்பம்பண்ண, அவர் உமக்குச் செவிகொடுப்பார்; அப்பொழுது நீர் உம்முடைய பொருத்தனைகளைச் செலுத்துவீர்.

27. Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.

28. நீர் ஒரு காரியத்தை நிருணயம்பண்ணினால், அது உமக்கு நிலைவரப்படும்; உம்முடைய பாதைகளில் வெளிச்சம் பிரகாசிக்கும்.

28. Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee; and the light shall shine upon thy ways.

29. மனுஷர் ஒடுக்கப்படும்போது திடப்படக்கடவர்கள் என்று நீர் சொல்ல, தாழ்ந்தோர் இரட்சிக்கப்படுவார்கள்.

29. When [others] are cast down, then thou shalt say, [There is] lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.

30. குற்றமற்றிராதவனையுங்கூடத் தப்புவிப்பார்; உம்முடைய கைகளின் சுத்தத்தினிமித்தம் அவன் தப்பிப்போவான் என்றான்.

30. He shall deliver the island of the innocent; and in the pureness of thine hands thou shalt be kept.:
