1. பின்னொருநாளிலே தேவபுத்திரர் கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் வந்து நின்றபோது, சாத்தானும் அவர்கள் நடுவிலே கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் வந்து நின்றான்.

1. And there came a certain day when the sons of God entered in, to present themselves unto Yahweh so the accuser also entered in their midst, to present himself unto Yahweh.

2. கர்த்தர் சாத்தானைப் பார்த்து: நீ எங்கேயிருந்து வருகிறாய் என்றார்; சாத்தான் கர்த்தருக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: பூமியெங்கும் உலாவி, அதில் சுற்றித்திரிந்து வருகிறேன் என்றான்.

2. And Yahweh said unto the accuser, Whence comest thou? And the accuser answered Yahweh, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from wandering about therein.

3. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் சாத்தானை நோக்கி: நீ என் தாசனாகிய யோபின்மேல் கவனம் வைத்தாயோ? உத்தமனும் சன்மார்க்கனும், தேவனுக்குப் பயந்து, பொல்லாப்புக்கு விலகுகிறவனுமான மனுஷனாகிய அவனைப்போல பூமியில் ஒருவனுமில்லை; முகாந்தரமில்லாமல் அவனை நிர்மூலமாக்கும்படி நீ என்னை ஏவினபோதிலும், அவன் இன்னும் தன் உத்தமத்திலே உறுதியாய் நிற்கிறான் என்றார்.

3. And Yahweh said unto the accuser, Hast thou applied thy heart unto my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a man blameless and upright, one who revereth God, and avoideth evil; and still he is holding fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to swallow him up without cause.

4. சாத்தான் கர்த்தருக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: தோலுக்குப் பதிலாகத் தோலையும், தன் ஜீவனுக்குப் பதிலாகத் தனக்கு உண்டான எல்லாவற்றையும், மனுஷன் கொடுத்துவிடுவான்.

4. Then the accuser answered Yahweh, and said, Skin for skin, and so, all that a man hath, will he give for his life.

5. ஆனாலும் நீர் உம்முடைய கையை நீட்டி, அவன் எலும்பையும் அவன் மாம்சத்தையும் தொடுவீரானால், அப்பொழுது அவன் உமது முகத்துக்கு எதிரே உம்மைத் தூஷிக்கானோ பாரும் என்றான்.

5. In very deed, put forth, I pray thee thy hand, and smite unto his bone, and unto his flesh, verily, unto thy face, will he curse thee.

6. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் சாத்தானை நோக்கி: இதோ, அவன் உன் கையிலிருக்கிறான்; ஆகிலும் அவன் பிராணனைமாத்திரம் தப்பவிடு என்றார்.

6. And Yahweh said unto the accuser, Behold him! in thy hand, only, his life, preserve thou!

7. அப்பொழுது சாத்தான் கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியைவிட்டுப் புறப்பட்டு, யோபின் உள்ளங்கால் தொடங்கி அவன் உச்சந்தலைமட்டும் கொடிய பருக்களால் அவனை வாதித்தான்.

7. So the accuser went forth from the presence of Yahweh, and smote Job with a sore boil, from the sole of his foot, unto his crown.

8. அவன் ஒரு ஓட்டை எடுத்து, தன்னைச் சுறண்டிக்கொண்டு சாம்பலில் உட்கார்ந்தான்.

8. And he took him a potsherd, to scrape himself therewith; he being seated in the midst of ashes.

9. அப்பொழுது அவன் மனைவி அவனைப் பார்த்து: நீர் இன்னும் உம்முடைய உத்தமத்தில் உறுதியாய் நிற்கிறீரோ? தேவனைத் தூஷித்து ஜீவனை விடும் என்றாள்.

9. Then said his wife unto him, Art thou still holding fast thine integrity? Curse God, and die!

10. அதற்கு அவன்: நீ பயித்தியக்காரி பேசுகிறதுபோலப் பேசுகிறாய்; தேவன் கையிலே நன்மையைப் பெற்ற நாம் தீமையையும் பெறவேண்டாமோ என்றான்; இவைகள் எல்லாவற்றிலும் யோபு தன் உதடுகளினால் பாவஞ்செய்யவில்லை.

10. And he said unto her, As one of the base women speaketh, speakest thou? Blessing, shall we accept from God, and, misfortune, shall we not accept? In all this, Job sinned not with his lips.

11. யோபுடைய மூன்று சிநேகிதராகிய தேமானியனான எலிப்பாசும், சூகியனான பில்தாதும், நாகமாத்தியனான சோப்பாரும், யோபுக்கு நேரிட்ட தீமைகள் யாவையும் கேள்விப்பட்டபோது, அவனுக்காகப் பரிதபிக்கவும், அவனுக்கு ஆறுதல் சொல்லவும், ஒருவரோடொருவர் யோசனை பண்ணிக்கொண்டு, அவரவர் தங்கள் ஸ்தலங்களிலிருந்து வந்தார்கள்.

11. Now when the three friends of Job heard of all this misfortune which had befallen him, they came, every man from his own place, Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite, for they had by appointment met together to come to shew sympathy with him, and to comfort him.

12. அவர்கள் தூரத்தில் வருகையில் தங்கள் கண்களை ஏறெடுத்துப் பார்த்தபோது, அவனை உருத்தெரியாமல், சத்தமிட்டு அழுது, அவரவர் தங்கள் சால்வையைக் கிழித்து, வானத்தைப் பார்த்து: தங்கள் தலைகள்மேல் புழுதியைத் தூற்றிக்கொண்டு,

12. And, when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept and rent, every one his robe, and sprinkled dust upon their heads, toward the heavens.

13. வந்து, அவன் துக்கம் மகாகொடிய துக்கம் என்று கண்டு, ஒருவரும் அவனோடு ஒரு வார்த்தையையும் பேசாமல், இரவு பகல் ஏழு நாள், அவனோடுகூடத் தரையிலே உட்கார்ந்திருந்தார்கள்.

13. And they sat with him upon the ground, seven days and seven nights, and none was speaking unto him a word, for they saw that, exceeding great, was the stinging pain.
