1. தீர்க்கதரிசிகளின் புத்திரர் எலிசாவை நோக்கி: இதோ, நாங்கள் உம்முடன் குடியிருக்கிற இந்த இடம் எங்களுக்கு நெருக்கமாய் இருக்கிறது.

1. And the children of the Prophets saide vnto Elisha, Behold, we pray thee, the place where we dwell with thee, is too litle for vs.

2. நாங்கள் யோர்தான்மட்டும்போய் அவ்விடத்தில் ஒவ்வொருவர் ஒவ்வொரு உத்திரத்தை வெட்டி, குடியிருக்க அங்கே எங்களுக்கு ஒரு இடத்தை உண்டாக்குவோம் என்றார்கள். அதற்கு அவன்: போங்கள் என்றான்.

2. Let vs nowe goe to Iorden, that we may take thence euery man a beame, and make vs a place to dwell in. And he answered, Goe.

3. அவர்களில் ஒருவன்: நீர் தயவுசெய்து உமது அடியாரோடேகூட வரவேண்டும் என்றான். அதற்கு அவன்: நான் வருகிறேன் என்று சொல்லி,

3. And one said, Vouchsafe, I pray thee, to go with thy seruants, and he answered, I will goe.

4. அவர்களோடேகூடப் போனான்; அவர்கள் யோர்தான் நதியருகே வந்தபோது மரங்களை வெட்டினார்கள்.

4. So he went with them, and when they came to Iorden, they cut downe wood.

5. ஒருவன் ஒரு உத்திரத்தை வெட்டி விழுத்துகையில் கோடரி தண்ணீரில் விழுந்தது; அவன்: ஐயோ என் ஆண்டவனே, அது இரவலாக வாங்கப்பட்டதே என்று கூவினான்.

5. And as one was felling of a tree, the yron fell into the water: then he cryed, and said, Alas master, it was but borowed.

6. தேவனுடைய மனுஷன் அது எங்கே விழுந்தது என்று கேட்டான்; அவன் அந்த இடத்தைக் காண்பித்தபோது, ஒரு கொம்பை வெட்டி, அதை அங்கே எறிந்து, அந்த இரும்பை மிதக்கப்பண்ணி,

6. And the man of God saide, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. Then he cut downe a piece of wood, and cast in thither, and he caused the yron to swimme.

7. அதை எடுத்துக்கொள் என்றான்; அப்படியே அவன் தன் கையை நீட்டி அதை எடுத்துக்கொண்டான்.

7. Then he saide, Take it vp to thee. And he stretched out his hand, and tooke it.

8. அக்காலத்தில் சீரியாவின் ராஜா இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு விரோதமாய் யுத்தம்பண்ணி, இன்ன இன்ன ஸ்தலத்திலே பாளயமிறங்குவேன் என்று தன் ஊழியக்காரரோடே ஆலோசனைபண்ணினான்.

8. Then the King of Aram warred against Israel, and tooke counsell with his seruants, and said, In such and such a place shalbe my campe.

9. ஆகிலும் தேவனுடைய மனுஷன் இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவினிடத்தில் ஆள் அனுப்பி: இன்ன இடத்துக்குப் போகாதபடிக்கு எச்சரிக்கையாயிரும்; சீரியர் அங்கே இறங்குவார்கள் என்று சொல்லச்சொன்னான்.

9. Therefore the man of God sent vnto the King of Israel, saying, Beware thou goe not ouer to such a place: for there the Aramites are come downe.

10. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா தேவனுடைய மனுஷன் தன்னை எச்சரித்து, தனக்குக் குறித்துச்சொன்ன ஸ்தலத்திற்கு மனுஷரை அனுப்பிப்பார்த்து எச்சரிக்கையாயிருந்து, இப்படி அநேகந்தரம் தன்னைக் காத்துக்கொண்டான்.

10. So the King of Israel sent to the place which the man of God tolde him, and warned him of, and saued himselfe from thence, not once, nor twise.

11. இந்தக் காரியத்தினிமித்தம் சீரிய ராஜாவின் இருதயம் குழம்பி, அவன் தன் ஊழியக்காரரை அழைத்து: நம்முடையவர்களில் இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவுக்கு உளவாயிருக்கிறவன் யார் என்று நீங்கள் எனக்கு அறிவிக்கமாட்டீர்களா என்று கேட்டான்.

11. And the heart of the King of Aram was troubled for this thing: therefore he called his seruants and saide vnto them, Will ye not shewe me, which of vs bewrayeth our counsel to the king of Israel?

12. அப்பொழுது அவன் ஊழியக்காரரில் ஒருவன்: அப்படியில்லை; என் ஆண்டவனாகிய ராஜாவே, நீர் உம்முடைய பள்ளி அறையிலே பேசுகிற வார்த்தைகளையும் இஸ்ரவேலிலிருக்கிற தீர்க்கதரிசியாகிய எலிசா இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவுக்கு அறிவிப்பான் என்றான்.

12. Then one of his seruants saide, None, my lorde, O King, but Elisha the Prophet that is in Israel, telleth the King of Israel, euen the wordes that thou speakest in thy priuie chamber.

13. அப்பொழுது அவன்: நான் மனுஷரை அனுப்பி அவனைப் பிடிக்கும்படி, நீங்கள் போய் அவன் எங்கே இருக்கிறான் என்று பாருங்கள் என்றான்; அவன் தோத்தானில் இருக்கிறான் என்று அவனுக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது.

13. And he said, Goe, and espie where he is, that I may sende and fetch him. And one tolde him, saying, Beholde, he is in Dothan.

14. அப்பொழுது அவன் அங்கே குதிரைகளையும் இரதங்களையும் பலத்த இராணுவத்தையும் அனுப்பினான்; அவர்கள் இராக்காலத்திலே வந்து பட்டணத்தை வளைந்துகொண்டார்கள்.

14. So he sent thither horses, and charets, and a mightie hoste: and they came by night, and compassed the citie.

15. தேவனுடைய மனுஷனின் வேலைக்காரன் அதிகாலமே எழுந்து வெளியே புறப்படுகையில், இதோ, இராணுவமும் குதிரைகளும் இரதங்களும் பட்டணத்தைச் சுற்றிக்கொண்டிருக்கக் கண்டான்; அப்பொழுது வேலைக்காரன் அவனை நோக்கி: ஐயோ, என் ஆண்டவனே, என்னசெய்வோம் என்றான்.

15. And when the seruant of the man of God arose earely to goe out, beholde, an hoste compassed the citie with horses and charets. Then his seruant sayde vnto him, Alas master, howe shall we doe?

16. அதற்கு அவன்: பயப்படாதே; அவர்களோடிருக்கிறவர்களைப்பார்க்கிலும் நம்மோடிருக்கிறவர்கள் அதிகம் என்றான்.

16. And he answered, Feare not: for they that be with vs, are moe then they that be with them.

17. அப்பொழுது எலிசா விண்ணப்பம்பண்ணி: கர்த்தாவே, இவன் பார்க்கும்படி இவன் கண்களைத் திறந்தருளும் என்றான்; உடனே கர்த்தர் அந்த வேலைக்காரன் கண்களைத் திறந்தார்; இதோ, எலிசாவைச்சுற்றிலும் அக்கினிமயமான குதிரைகளாலும் இரதங்களாலும் அந்த மலை நிறைந்திருக்கிறதை அவன் கண்டான்.

17. Then Elisha prayed, and saide, Lord, I beseech thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the seruant, and he looked, and beholde, the mountaine was full of horses and charets of fyre round about Elisha.

18. அவர்கள் அவனிடத்தில் வருகையில், எலிசா கர்த்தரை நோக்கி விண்ணப்பம்பண்ணி: இந்த ஜனங்களுக்குக் கண்மயக்கம் உண்டாகும்படி செய்யும் என்றான்; எலிசாவுடைய வார்த்தையின்படியே அவர்களுக்குக் கண்மயக்கம் உண்டாகும்படி செய்தார்.

18. So they came downe to him, but Elisha prayed vnto the Lord, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindnesse. And he smote them with blindnes, according to the worde of Elisha.

19. அப்பொழுது எலிசா அவர்களை நோக்கி: இது வழி அல்ல; இது பட்டணமும் அல்ல; என் பிறகே வாருங்கள்; நீங்கள் தேடுகிற மனுஷனிடத்தில் நான் உங்களை வழிநடத்துவேன் என்று சொல்லி, அவர்களைச் சமாரியாவுக்கு அழைத்துக் கொண்டுபோனான்.

19. And Elisha said vnto them, This is not the way, neither is this the citie: follow me, and I will leade you to the man whome ye seeke. But he ledde them to Samaria.

20. அவர்கள் சமாரியாவில் வந்தபோது, எலிசா: கர்த்தாவே, இவர்கள் பார்க்கும்படிக்கு இவர்கள் கண்களைத் திறந்தருளும் என்றான்; பார்க்கும்படிக்குக் கர்த்தர் அவர்கள் கண்களைத் திறக்கும்போது, இதோ, இவர்கள் சமாரியாவின் நடுவே இருந்தார்கள்.

20. And when they were come to Samaria, Elisha saide, Lord, open their eyes that they may see. And the Lord opened their eyes, and they saw, and beholde, they were in the mids of Samaria.

21. இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா அவர்களைக் கண்டபோது, எலிசாவைப் பார்த்து: என் தகப்பனே, நான் அவர்களை வெட்டிப்போடலாமா என்று கேட்டான்.

21. And the King of Israel sayde vnto Elisha when he sawe them, My father, shall I smite them, shall I smite them?

22. அதற்கு அவன்: நீர் வெட்டவேண்டாம்; நீர் உம்முடைய பட்டயத்தாலும், உம்முடைய வில்லினாலும் சிறையாக்கிக்கொண்டவர்களை வெட்டுகிறீரோ? இவர்கள் புசித்துக் குடித்து, தங்கள் ஆண்டவனிடத்துக்குப் போகும்படிக்கு, அப்பமும் தண்ணீரும் அவர்களுக்கெதிரில் வையும் என்றான்.

22. And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: doest thou not smite them that thou hast taken with thy sworde, and with thy bowe? but set bread and water before them, that they may eate and drinke and goe to their master.

23. அப்பொழுது அவர்களுக்குப் பெரிய விருந்துபண்ணி, அவர்கள் புசித்துக்குடித்தபின்பு, அவர்களை அனுப்பிவிட்டான்; அவர்கள் தங்கள் ஆண்டவனிடத்துக்குப் போய்விட்டார்கள்; சீரியரின் தண்டுகள் இஸ்ரவேல் தேசத்திலே அப்புறம் வரவில்லை.

23. And he made great preparation for them: and when they had eaten and drunken, he sent them away: and they went to their master. So ye bands of Aram came no more into the land of Israel.

24. இதற்குப்பின்பு சீரியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய பெனாதாத் தன் இராணுவத்தையெல்லாம் கூட்டிக்கொண்டுவந்து சமாரியாவை முற்றிக்கைபோட்டான்.

24. But afterward Ben-hadad King of Aram gathered all his hoste, and went vp, and besieged Samaria.

25. அதினால் சமாரியாவிலே கொடிய பஞ்சமுண்டாயிற்று; ஒரு கழுதைத் தலை எண்பது வெள்ளிக்காசுக்கும், புறாக்களுக்குப் போடுகிற காற்படி பயறு ஐந்து வெள்ளிக்காசுக்கும் விற்கப்படுமட்டும் அதை முற்றிக்கைபோட்டார்கள்.

25. So there was a great famine in Samaria: for loe, they besieged it vntill an asses head was at foure score pieces of siluer, and the fourth part of a kab of doues doung at fiue pieces of siluer.

26. இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா அலங்கத்தின்மேல் நடந்துபோகையில், ஒரு ஸ்திரீ அவனைப்பார்த்துக் கூப்பிட்டு, ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனே, இரட்சியும் என்றாள்.

26. And as the King of Israel was going vpon the wall, there cryed a woman vnto him, saying, Helpe, my lord, O King.

27. அதற்கு அவன்: கர்த்தர் உன்னை இரட்சிக்காதிருந்தால் நான் எதிலிருந்து எடுத்து உன்னை இரட்சிக்கலாம்? களஞ்சியத்திலிருந்தா, ஆலையிலிருந்தா என்று சொல்லி,

27. And he said, Seeing the Lord doeth not succour thee, howe shoulde I helpe thee with the barne, or with the wine presse?

28. ராஜா பின்னையும் அவளைப் பார்த்து: உனக்கு என்னவேண்டும் என்று கேட்டான். அதற்கு அவள்: இந்த ஸ்திரீ என்னை நோக்கி: உன் மகனைத் தா, அவனை இன்று தின்போம்; நாளைக்கு என் மகனைத் தின்போம் என்றாள்.

28. Also the King said vnto her, What ayleth thee? And she answered, This woman sayde vnto me, Giue thy sonne, that we may eate him to day, and we will eate my sonne to morowe,

29. அப்படியே என் மகனை ஆக்கித் தின்றோம்; மறுநாளில் நான் இவளை நோக்கி: நாம் உன் மகனைத் தின்ன அவனைத் தா என்றேன்; அவள் தன் மகனை ஒளித்து விட்டாள் என்றாள்.

29. So we sod my sonne, and did eate him: and I saide to her the day after, Giue thy sonne, that we may eate him, but she hath hid her sonne.

30. அந்த ஸ்திரீயின் வார்த்தைகளை ராஜா கேட்டவுடனே, அலங்கத்தின்மேல் நடந்துபோகிற அவன் தன் வஸ்திரங்களைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்டான்; அவன் உள்ளே தன் சரீரத்தின்மேல் இரட்டு உடுத்தியிருக்கிறதை ஜனங்கள் கண்டார்கள்.

30. And when the King had heard the wordes of the woman, he rent his clothes, (and as he went vpon the wall, the people looked, and behold, he had sackecloth within vpon his flesh)

31. அவன்: சாப்பாத்தின் குமாரனாகிய எலிசாவின் தலை இன்றைக்கு அவன்மேல் இருந்தால், தேவன் அதற்குச் சரியாகவும் அதற்கு அதிகமாகவும் எனக்குச் செய்யக்கடவர் என்று சொன்னான்.

31. And he saide, God doe so to me and more also, if the head of Elisha the sonne of Shaphat shall stande on him this day.

32. எலிசா தன் வீட்டில் உட்கார்ந்திருந்தான்; மூப்பரும் அவனோடு உட்கார்ந்திருந்தார்கள். அப்பொழுது ராஜா: ஒரு மனுஷனைத் தனக்கு முன்னே அனுப்பினான்; இந்த ஆள் எலிசாவினிடத்துக்கு வருமுன்னே, அவன் அந்த மூப்பரை நோக்கி: என் தலையை வாங்க, அந்தக் கொலைபாதகனுடைய மகன் ஆள் அனுப்பினான்; பார்த்தீர்களா? அந்த ஆள் வரும்போது, நீங்கள் அவனை உள்ளே வரவொட்டாமல் கதவைப் பூட்டிப்போடுங்கள்; அவனுக்குப் பின்னாக அவன் ஆண்டவனுடைய காலின் சத்தம் கேட்கிறது அல்லவா என்றான்.

32. (Nowe Elisha sate in his house, and the Elders sate with him.) And the King sent a man before him: but before the messenger came to him, he saide to the Elders, See ye not howe this murtherers sonne hath sent to take away mine head? take heede when the messenger commeth, and shut the doore and handle him roughly at the doore: is not the sounde of his masters feete behinde him?

33. அவர்களோடே அவன் பேசிக்கொண்டிருக்கையில், அந்த ஆள் அவனிடத்தில் வந்து: இதோ, இந்தப் பொல்லாப்பு கர்த்தரால் உண்டானது; நான் இனிக் கர்த்தருக்காகக் காத்திருக்க வேண்டியது என்ன என்று ராஜா சொல்லுகிறார் என்றான்.

33. While he yet talked with them, beholde, the messenger came downe vnto him, and saide, Behold, this euill commeth of the Lord: should I attende on the Lord any longer?
