1. எலியா செய்த எல்லாவற்றையும், அவன் தீர்க்கதரிசிகளெல்லாரையும் பட்டயத்தாலே கொன்றுபோட்ட செய்தி அனைத்தையும், ஆகாப் யேசபேலுக்கு அறிவித்தான்.

1. And Ahab told Jezebel, all that Elijah had done, and withal, how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.

2. அப்பொழுது யேசபேல் எலியாவினிடத்தில் ஆள் அனுப்பி: அவர்களிலே ஒவ்வொருவனுடைய பிராணனுக்குச் செய்யப்பட்டதுபோல, நான் நாளை இந்நேரத்தில் உன் பிராணனுக்குச் செய்யாதேபோனால், தேவர்கள் அதற்குச் சரியாகவும் அதற்கு அதிகமாகவும் எனக்குச் செய்யக்கடவர்கள் என்று சொல்லச் சொன்னாள்.

2. Then sent Jezebel a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So, let the gods do, and, so, let them add, if, by this time to-morrow, I make not thy life as the life of one of them.

3. அவனுக்கு அது தெரிந்தபோது எழுந்து, தன் பிராணனைக் காக்க யூதாவைச்சேர்ந்த பெயெர்செபாவுக்குப் புறப்பட்டுப்போய், தன் வேலைக்காரனை அங்கே நிறுத்திவிட்டான்.

3. And, when he saw that , he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.

4. அவன் வனாந்தரத்தில் ஒருநாள் பிரயாணம் போய், ஒரு சூரைச்செடியின் கீழ் உட்கார்ந்து, தான் சாகவேண்டும் என்று கோரி: போதும் கர்த்தாவே, என் ஆத்துமாவை எடுத்துக்கொள்ளும்; நான் என் பிதாக்களைப்பார்க்கிலும் நல்லவன் அல்ல என்று சொல்லி,

4. But, he himself, went into the wilderness a day's journey, and came and sat down under a certain shrub, and asked for his life, that he might die, and said Enough, now, O Yahweh! take away my life, for, no better, am, I, than, my fathers.

5. ஒரு சூரைச்செடியின்கீழ்ப் படுத்துக்கொண்டு நித்திரைபண்ணினான்; அப்பொழுது ஒரு தூதன் அவனைத் தட்டியெழுப்பி: எழுந்திருந்து போஜனம்பண்ணு என்றான்.

5. And, as he lay, and slept, under a certain shrub, lo! a messenger, touching him, who said to him Rise, eat.

6. அவன் விழித்துப் பார்க்கிறபோது, இதோ, தழலில் சுடப்பட்ட அடையும், ஒரு பாத்திரத்தில் தண்ணீரும் அவன் தலைமாட்டில் இருந்தது; அப்பொழுது அவன், புசித்துக் குடித்துத் திரும்பப் படுத்துக்கொண்டான்.

6. So he looked about, and lo! at his head, a cake baked on hot stones, and a cruse of water, and he did eat and drink, and then went back and lay down.

7. கர்த்தருடைய தூதன் திரும்ப இரண்டாந்தரம் வந்து அவனைத் தட்டியெழுப்பி: எழுந்திருந்து போஜனம்பண்ணு; நீ பண்ணவேண்டிய பிரயாணம் வெகுதூரம் என்றான்.

7. And the messenger of Yahweh came again a second time, and touched him, and said Rise, eat, because, too much for thee, is the journey.

8. அப்பொழுது அவன் எழுந்திருந்து புசித்துக் குடித்து, அந்த போஜனத்தின் பலத்தினால் நாற்பது நாள் இரவு பகல் ஓரேப் என்னும் தேவனுடைய பர்வதமட்டும் நடந்து போனான்.

8. So he arose, and did eat and drink, and journeyed, in the strength of that eating, forty days and forty nights, as far as the mountain of God Horeb.

9. அங்கே அவன் ஒரு கெபிக்குள் போய்த் தங்கினான்; இதோ, கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தை அவனுக்கு உண்டாகி, அவர்: எலியாவே, இங்கே உனக்கு என்ன காரியம் என்றார்.

9. And he entered, there, into a cave, and lodged there, and lo! the word of Yahweh came unto him, and said to him, What doest thou here, Elijah?

10. அதற்கு அவன்: சேனைகளின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருக்காக வெகு பக்திவைராக்கியமாயிருந்தேன்; இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் உமது உடன்படிக்கையைத் தள்ளிவிட்டார்கள்; உம்முடைய பலிபீடங்களை இடித்து, உம்முடைய தீர்க்கதரிசிகளைப் பட்டயத்தினால் கொன்றுபோட்டார்கள்; நான் ஒருவன் மாத்திரம் மீதியாயிருக்கிறேன்; என் பிராணனையும் வாங்கத் தேடுகிறார்கள் என்றான்.

10. And he said Very jealous, have I been, for Yahweh, God of hosts, because the sons of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thine altars, have they thrown down, thy prophets, also have they slain with the sword, and, I alone, am left, and they have sought my life, to take it.

11. அப்பொழுது அவர்: நீ வெளியே வந்து கர்த்தருக்கு முன்பாகப் பர்வதத்தில் நில் என்றார்; அப்பொழுது, இதோ, கர்த்தர் கடந்துபோனார்; கர்த்தருக்கு முன்பாகப் பர்வதங்களைப் பிளக்கிறதும் கன்மலைகளை உடைக்கிறதுமான பலத்த பெருங்காற்று உண்டாயிற்று; ஆனாலும் அந்தக் காற்றிலே கர்த்தர் இருக்கவில்லை; காற்றிற்குப்பின் பூமி அதிர்ச்சி உண்டாயிற்று; பூமி அதிர்ச்சியிலும் கர்த்தர் இருக்கவில்லை.

11. And he said Go forth to-morrow, and stand in the mountain, before Yahweh. And lo! Yahweh, passing by, and a great and strong wind rending the mountains, and breaking in pieces the crags, before Yahweh, Not, in the wind, was, Yahweh, And, after the wind, an, earthquake, Not, in the earthquake, was, Yahweh;

12. பூமி அதிர்ச்சிக்குப்பின் அக்கினி உண்டாயிற்று; அக்கினியிலும் கர்த்தர் இருக்கவில்லை; அக்கினிக்குப்பின் அமர்ந்த மெல்லிய சத்தம் உண்டாயிற்று.

12. And, after the earthquake, a, fire, Not, in the fire, was, Yahweh, And, after the fire, the voice of a gentle whisper.

13. அதை எலியா கேட்டபோது, தன் சால்வையினால் தன் முகத்தை மூடிக்கொண்டு வெளியே வந்து, கெபியின் வாசலில் நின்றான். அப்பொழுது, இதோ, எலியாவே, இங்கே உனக்கு என்ன காரியம் என்கிற சத்தம் அவனுக்கு உண்டாயிற்று.

13. And it came to pass, when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went forth, and stood at the entrance of the cave, and lo! unto him, a voice; and it said What doest thou here, Elijah?

14. அதற்கு அவன்: சேனைகளின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருக்காக வெகு பக்திவைராக்கியமாயிருந்தேன்; இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் உமது உடன்படிக்கையைத் தள்ளிவிட்டார்கள்; உம்முடைய பலிபீடங்களை இடித்து, உம்முடைய தீர்க்கதரிசிகளைப் பட்டயத்தினால் கொன்றுபோட்டார்கள், நான் ஒருவன் மாத்திரம் மீதியாயிருக்கிறேன்; என் பிராணனையும் வாங்கத் தேடுகிறார்கள் என்றான்.

14. And he said Very jealous, have I been, for Yahweh, God of hosts, because the sons of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thine altars, have they thrown down, thy prophets also, have they slain with the sword, and, I alone, am left, and they rove sought my life, to take it.

15. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் அவனைப் பார்த்து: நீ தமஸ்குவின் வழியாய் வனாந்தரத்திற்குத் திரும்பிப்போய், ஆசகேலைச் சீரியாவின்மேல் ராஜாவாக அபிஷேகம்பண்ணி,

15. And Yahweh said unto him, Go, return to thy way, towards the wilderness of Damascus, and, when thou enterest, then shalt thou anoint Hazael to be king over Syria;

16. பின்பு நிம்சியின் குமாரனாகிய யெகூவை இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் ராஜாவாக அபிஷேகம்பண்ணி, ஆபேல்மேகொலா ஊரானான சாப்பாத்தின் குமாரனாகிய எலிசாவை உன் ஸ்தானத்திலே தீர்க்கதரிசியாக அபிஷேகம்பண்ணு.

16. And, Jehu son of Minshi, shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel, and, Elisha son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah, shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy stead:

17. சம்பவிப்பதாவது: ஆசகேலின் பட்டயத்திற்குத் தப்பினவனை யெகூ கொன்றுபோடுவான்; யெகூவின் பட்டயத்திற்குத் தப்பினவனை எலிசா கொன்றுபோடுவான்.

17. Then shall it come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael, shall, Jehu, slay, and, him that escapeth the sword of Jehu, shall, Elisha, slay;

18. ஆனாலும் பாகாலுக்கு முடங்காதிருக்கிற முழங்கால்களையும், அவனை முத்தஞ்செய்யாதிருக்கிற வாய்களையுமுடைய ஏழாயிரம்பேரை இஸ்ரவேலிலே மீதியாக வைத்திருக்கிறேன் என்றார்.

18. Yet will I leave remaining in Israel, seven thousand, all knees which have not bowed to Baal, and all mouths which have not kissed to him.

19. அப்படியே அவன் அவ்விடம் விட்டுப் புறப்பட்டுப்போய், பன்னிரண்டு ஏர்பூட்டி உழுத சாப்பாத்தின் குமாரனாகிய எலிசாவைக் கண்டான்; அவன் பன்னிரண்டாம் ஏரை ஓட்டிக்கொண்டிருந்தான்; எலியா அவன் இருக்கும் இடமட்டும் போய், அவன்மேல் தன் சால்வையைப் போட்டான்.

19. So he departed from thence, and found Elisha son of Shaphat, as he was plowing, with twelve yoke of oxen before him, he being with the twelfth, so Elijah crossed over unto him, and cast his mantle towards him;

20. அப்பொழுது அவன் மாடுகளைவிட்டு, எலியாவின் பிறகே ஓடி: நான் என் தகப்பனையும் என் தாயையும் முத்தஞ்செய்ய உத்தரவு கொடும், அதற்குப்பின் உம்மைப் பின்தொடர்வேன் என்றான். அதற்கு அவன்: போய்த் திரும்பிவா; நான் உனக்குச் செய்ததை நினைத்துக்கொள் என்றான்.

20. and he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, that I may follow thee. And he said unto him, Go, turn back, for what have I done to thee?

21. அப்பொழுது அவன் இவனை விட்டுப் போய், ஒரு ஏர் மாடுகளைப் பிடித்து அடித்து, ஏரின் மரமுட்டுகளால் அவைகளின் இறைச்சியைச் சமைத்து ஜனங்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தான்; அவர்கள் சாப்பிட்டபிற்பாடு, அவன் எழுந்து, எலியாவுக்குப் பின்சென்று அவனுக்கு ஊழியஞ்செய்தான்.

21. So he turned back from following him, and took the yoke of oxen, and sacrificed them, and, with the implements of the oxen, boiled their flesh, and gave unto the people, and they did eat, then he arose, and followed Elijah, and ministered unto him.
