1. கர்த்தருடைய கோபம் திரும்ப இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் மூண்டது. இஸ்ரவேல் யூதா என்பவர்களை இலக்கம் பார் என்று அவர்களுக்கு விரோதமாய்ச் சொல்லுகிறதற்கு தாவீது ஏவப்பட்டான்.

1. On another occasion the LORD was angry with Israel, and he made David bring trouble on them. The LORD said to him, 'Go and count the people of Israel and Judah.'

2. அப்படியே ராஜா தன்னோடிருக்கிற சேனாபதியாகிய யோவாபைப் பார்த்து: ஜனங்களின் இலக்கத்தை நான் அறியும்படிக்கு நீ தாண்முதல் பெயெர்செபா மட்டுமுள்ள இஸ்ரவேலரின் கோத்திரமெங்கும் சுற்றித்திரிந்து ஜனங்களைத் தொகையிடுங்கள் என்றான்.

2. So David gave orders to Joab, the commander of his army: 'Go with your officers through all the tribes of Israel from one end of the country to the other, and count the people. I want to know how many there are.'

3. அப்பொழுது யோவாப் ராஜாவைப் பார்த்து: ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனுடைய கண்கள் காணும்படி உம்முடைய தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் ஜனங்களை இப்பொழுது இருக்கிறதைப்பார்க்கிலும், நூறுமடங்கு அதிகமாய் வர்த்திக்கப்பண்ணுவாராக; ஆனாலும் என் ஆண்டவனாகிய ராஜா இந்தக் காரியத்தை விரும்புகிறது என்ன என்றான்.

3. But Joab answered the king, 'Your Majesty, may the LORD your God make the people of Israel a hundred times more numerous than they are now, and may you live to see him do it. But why does Your Majesty want to do this?'

4. ஆகிலும் யோவாபும் இராணுவத்தலைவரும் சொன்ன வார்த்தை செல்லாதபடிக்கு, ராஜாவின் வார்த்தை பலத்தது; அப்படியே இஸ்ரவேல் ஜனங்களைத் தொகையிட, யோவாபும் இராணுவத்தலைவரும் ராஜாவைவிட்டு புறப்பட்டுப்போய்,

4. But the king made Joab and his officers obey his order; they left his presence and went out to count the people of Israel.

5. யோர்தானைக் கடந்து, காத் என்னும் ஆறுகளின் நடுவே இருக்கிற பட்டணத்திற்கு வலதுபுறமான ஆரோவேரிலும் யாசேரிடத்திலும் பாளயமிறங்கி,

5. They crossed the Jordan and camped south of Aroer, the city in the middle of the valley, in the territory of Gad. From there they went north to Jazer,

6. அங்கேயிருந்து கீலேயாத்திற்கும் தாதீம்ஒத்சிக்கும் போய், அங்கேயிருந்து தாண்யானுக்கும், சீதோனின் சுற்றுப்புறங்களுக்கும் போய்,

6. and on to Gilead and to Kadesh, in Hittite territory. Then they went to Dan, and from Dan they went west to Sidon.

7. பிற்பாடு தீரு என்னும் கோட்டைக்கும் ஏவியர் கானானியருடைய சகல பட்டணங்களுக்கும் போய், அங்கேயிருந்து யூதாவின் தென்புறமான பெயெர்செபாவுக்குப் போய்,

7. Then they went south to the fortified city of Tyre, on to all the cities of the Hivites and the Canaanites, and finally to Beersheba, in the southern part of Judah.

8. இப்படி தேசமெங்கும் சுற்றித்திரிந்து, ஒன்பது மாதமும் இருபது நாளும் ஆனபிற்பாடு எருசலேமுக்கு வந்தார்கள்.

8. So after nine months and twenty days they returned to Jerusalem, having traveled through the whole country.

9. யோவாப் ஜனத்தை இலக்கம் பார்த்த தொகையை ராஜாவுக்குக் கொடுத்தான்; இஸ்ரவேலிலே பட்டயம் உருவத்தக்க யுத்த சேவகர் எட்டு லட்சம்பேர் இருந்தார்கள்; யூதா மனுஷர் ஐந்து லட்சம்பேர் இருந்தார்கள்.

9. They reported to the king the total number of men capable of military service: 800,000 in Israel and 500,000 in Judah.

10. இவ்விதமாய் ஜனங்களை எண்ணினபின்பு, ராஜாவின் இருதயம் அவனை வாதித்தது; அப்பொழுது தாவீது கர்த்தரை நோக்கி: நான் இப்படிச் செய்ததினாலே பெரிய பாவஞ்செய்தேன்; இப்போதும் ஆண்டவரே, உமது அடியானின் அக்கிரமத்தை நீக்கிவிடும்; நான் மகா புத்தியீனமாய்ச் செய்தேன் என்றான்.

10. But after David had taken the census, his conscience began to hurt, and he said to the LORD, 'I have committed a terrible sin in doing this! Please forgive me. I have acted foolishly.'

11. தாவீது காலமே எழுந்திருந்தபோது, தாவீதின் ஞானதிருஷ்டிக்காரனாகிய காத் என்னும் தீர்க்கதரிசிக்குக் கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தை உண்டாகிச் சொன்னது:

11. The LORD said to Gad, David's prophet, 'Go and tell David that I am giving him three choices. I will do whichever he chooses.' The next morning, after David had gotten up,

12. நீ தாவீதினிடத்தில் போய், மூன்று காரியங்களை உனக்கு முன்பாக வைக்கிறேன்; அவைகளில் ஒரு காரியத்தைத் தெரிந்துகொள், அதை நான் உனக்குச் செய்வேன் என்று கர்த்தர் உரைக்கிறார் என்று சொல் என்றார்.

13. அப்படியே காத் தாவீதினிடத்தில் வந்து, அவனை நோக்கி: உம்முடைய தேசத்திலே ஏழு வருஷம் பஞ்சம் வரவேண்டுமோ? அல்லது மூன்று மாதம் உம்முடைய சத்துருக்கள் உம்மைப் பின்தொடர, நீர் அவர்களுக்கு முன்பாக ஓடிப்போகவேண்டுமோ? அல்லது உம்முடைய தேசத்திலே மூன்று நாள் கொள்ளை நோய் உண்டாக வேண்டுமோ? இப்போதும் என்னை அனுப்பினவருக்கு நான் என்ன மறுஉத்தரவு கொண்டுபோக வேண்டும் என்பதை நீர் யோசித்துப் பாரும் என்று சொன்னான்.

13. Gad went to him, told him what the LORD had said, and asked, 'Which is it to be? Three years of famine in your land or three months of running away from your enemies or three days of an epidemic in your land? Now think it over, and tell me what answer to take back to the LORD.'

14. அப்பொழுது தாவீது காத்தை நோக்கி: கொடிய இடுக்கணில் அகப்பட்டிருக்கிறேன்; இப்போது நாம் கர்த்தருடைய கையிலே விழுவோமாக; அவருடைய இரக்கங்கள் மகா பெரியது; மனுஷர் கையிலே விழாதிருப்பேனாக என்றான்.

14. David answered, 'I am in a desperate situation! But I don't want to be punished by people. Let the LORD himself be the one to punish us, for he is merciful.'

15. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேலிலே அன்று காலமேதொடங்கி குறித்தகாலம் வரைக்கும் கொள்ளை நோயை வரப்பண்ணினார்; அதினால் தாண்முதல் பெயெர்செபா மட்டுமுள்ள ஜனங்களில் எழுபதினாயிரம்பேர் செத்துப் போனார்கள்.

15. So the LORD sent an epidemic on Israel, which lasted from that morning until the time that he had chosen. From one end of the country to the other seventy thousand Israelites died.

16. தேவதூதன் எருசலேமை அழிக்கத் தன் கையை அதின்மேல் நீட்டினபோது, கர்த்தர் அந்தத் தீங்குக்கு மனஸ்தாபப்பட்டு, ஜனங்களைச் சங்கரிக்கிற தூதனை நோக்கி: போதும், இப்போது உன் கையை நிறுத்து என்றார்; அந்த வேளையில் கர்த்தருடைய தூதன் எபூசியனாகிய அர்வனாவின் போரடிக்கிற களத்திற்கு நேரே இருந்தான்.

16. When the LORD's angel was about to destroy Jerusalem, the LORD changed his mind about punishing the people and said to the angel who was killing them, 'Stop! That's enough!' The angel was by the threshing place of Araunah, a Jebusite.

17. ஜனத்தை உபாதிக்கிற தூதனை தாவீது கண்டபோது, அவன் கர்த்தரை நோக்கி: இதோ, நான்தான் பாவஞ்செய்தேன்; நான்தான் அக்கிரமம் பண்ணினேன்; இந்த ஆடுகள் என்ன செய்தது? உம்முடைய கை எனக்கும் என் தகப்பன் வீட்டுக்கும் விரோதமாயிருப்பதாக என்று விண்ணப்பம்பண்ணினான்.

17. David saw the angel who was killing the people, and said to the LORD, 'I am the guilty one. I am the one who did wrong. What have these poor people done? You should punish me and my family.'

18. அன்றையதினம் காத் என்பவன் தாவீதினிடத்தில் வந்து, அவனை நோக்கி: நீர் போய், எபூசியனாகிய அர்வனாவின் களத்திலே கர்த்தருக்கு ஒரு பலிபீடத்தை உண்டாக்கும் என்றான்.

18. That same day Gad went to David and said to him, 'Go up to Araunah's threshing place and build an altar to the LORD.'

19. காத்துடைய வார்த்தையின்படியே தாவீது கர்த்தர் கற்பித்த பிரகாரமாகப் போனான்.

19. David obeyed the LORD's command and went as Gad had told him to.

20. அர்வனா ஏறிட்டுப்பார்த்து: ராஜாவும் அவனுடைய ஊழியக்காரரும் தன்னிடத்தில் வருகிறதைக்கண்டு, அர்வனா எதிர்கொண்டுபோய் தரைமட்டும் குனிந்து ராஜாவை வணங்கி,

20. Araunah looked down and saw the king and his officials coming up to him. He threw himself on the ground in front of David

21. ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவன் தமது அடியானிடத்தில் வருகிற காரியம் என்ன என்று கேட்டதற்கு, தாவீது: வாதை ஜனத்தைவிட்டு நிறுத்தப்படக் கர்த்தருக்கு ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக் கட்டும்படிக்கு இந்தக் களத்தை உன் கையிலே கொள்ளவந்தேன் என்றான்.

21. and asked, 'Your Majesty, why are you here?' David answered, 'To buy your threshing place and build an altar for the LORD, in order to stop the epidemic.'

22. அர்வனா தாவீதைப் பார்த்து: ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவன் இதை வாங்கிக் கொண்டு, தம்முடைய பார்வைக்கு நலமானபடி பலியிடுவாராக; இதோ, தகனபலிக்கு மாடுகளும் விறகுக்குப் போரடிக்கிற உருளைகளும் மாடுகளின் நுகத்தடிகளும் இங்கே இருக்கிறது என்று சொல்லி,

22. 'Take it, Your Majesty,' Araunah said, 'and offer to the LORD whatever you wish. Here are these oxen to burn as an offering on the altar; here are their yokes and the threshing boards to use as fuel.'

23. அர்வனா ராஜயோக்கியமாய் அவை எல்லாவற்றையும் ராஜாவுக்குக் கொடுத்த பின்பு, அர்வனா ராஜாவை நோக்கி: உம்முடைய தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உம்மிடத்தில் கிருபையாயிருப்பாராக என்றான்.

23. Araunah gave it all to the king and said to him, 'May the LORD your God accept your offering.'

24. ராஜா அர்வனாவைப் பார்த்து: அப்படியல்ல; நான் இலவசமாய் வாங்கி, என் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருக்கு சர்வாங்கதகனபலிகளைச் செலுத்தாமல், அதை உன் கையிலே விலைக்கிரயமாய் வாங்குவேன் என்று சொல்லி, தாவீது அந்தக் களத்தையும் மாடுகளையும் ஐம்பது சேக்கல் நிறைவெள்ளிக்குக் கொண்டான்.

24. But the king answered, 'No, I will pay you for it. I will not offer to the LORD my God sacrifices that have cost me nothing.' And he bought the threshing place and the oxen for fifty pieces of silver.

25. அங்கே தாவீது கர்த்தருக்கு ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக் கட்டி, சர்வாங்கதகனபலிகளையும் சமாதானபலிகளையும் செலுத்தினான்; அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் தேசத்துக்காகச் செய்யப்பட்ட வேண்டுதலைக் கேட்டருளினார்; இஸ்ரவேலின் மேலிருந்த அந்த வாதை நிறுத்தப்பட்டது.

25. Then he built an altar to the LORD and offered burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. The LORD answered his prayer, and the epidemic in Israel was stopped.
