1. பின்பு அகித்தோப்பேல் அப்சலோமை நோக்கி: நான் பன்னீராயிரம்பேரைத் தெரிந்துகொண்டு எழுந்து, இன்று இராத்திரி தாவீதைப் பின்தொடர்ந்து போகட்டும்.

1. Moreover Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night,

2. அவன் விடாய்த்தவனும் கைதளர்ந்தவனுமாயிருக்கையில், நான் அவனிடத்தில் போய், அவனைத் திடுக்கிடப்பண்ணுவேன்; அப்பொழுது அவனோடிருக்கும் ஜனங்களெல்லாரும் ஓடிப்போவதினால், நான் ராஜா ஒருவனைமாத்திரம் வெட்டி,

2. and I will come upon him while he [is] weary and weak-handed and will make him afraid, and all the people that [are] with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only.

3. ஜனங்களையெல்லாம் உம்முடைய வசமாய்த் திரும்பப்பண்ணுவேன், இப்படிச் செய்ய நீர் வகைதேடினால், எல்லாரும் திரும்பினபின் ஜனங்கள் சமாதானத்தோடு இருப்பார்கள் என்றான்.

3. Thus will I turn all the people back unto thee, and when they have returned (for that man is whom thou dost seek), all the people shall be in peace.

4. இந்த வார்த்தை அப்சலோமின் பார்வைக்கும், இஸ்ரவேலுடைய சகல மூப்பரின் பார்வைக்கும் நலமாய்த் தோன்றினது.

4. And this word seemed right in the eyes of Absalom and of all the elders of Israel.

5. ஆகிலும் அப்சலோம்: அற்கியனாகிய ஊசாயைக் கூப்பிட்டு, அவன் வாய்மொழியையும் கேட்போம் என்றான்.

5. Then Absalom said, Now call Hushai, the Archite, also, and let us likewise hear what he says.

6. ஊசாய் அப்சலோமிடத்தில் வந்தபோது, அப்சலோம் அவனைப் பார்த்து: இந்தப்பிரகாரமாக அகிப்தோப்பேல் சொன்னான்; அவன் வார்த்தையின்படி செய்வோமா? அல்லவென்றால், நீ சொல் என்றான்.

6. And when Hushai came to Absalom, Absalom spoke unto him, saying, Thus spoke Ahithophel; shall we follow his word or not? Speak thou.

7. அப்பொழுது ஊசாய் அப்சலோமை நோக்கி: அகித்தோப்பேல் இந்தவிசை சொன்ன ஆலோசனை நல்லதல்ல என்றான்.

7. Then Hushai said unto Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel has given this time [is] not good.

8. மேலும் ஊசாய்: உம்முடைய தகப்பனும் அவன் மனுஷரும் பலசாலிகள் என்றும், வெளியிலே குட்டிகளைப் பறிகொடுத்த கரடியைப்போல மனமெரிகிறவர்கள் என்றும் நீர் அறிவீர்; உம்முடைய தகப்பன் யுத்தவீரனுமாயிருக்கிறார்; அவர் இராக்காலத்தில் ஜனங்களோடே தங்கமாட்டார்.

8. For, said Hushai, thou knowest thy father and his men, that they [are] mighty men, and [now] their souls are bitter, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field. And thy father [is] a man of war and will not lodge with the people.

9. இதோ, அவர் இப்பொழுது ஒரு கெபியிலாவது, வேறே யாதோரிடத்திலாவது ஒளித்திருப்பார்; துவக்கத்திலேதானே நம்முடையவர்களில் சிலர் பட்டார்களேயானால், அதைக் கேட்கிற யாவரும் அப்சலோமைப் பின்செல்லுகிற ஜனங்களில் சங்காரம் உண்டாயிற்று என்பார்கள்.

9. Behold, he is hid now in some pit or in some [other] place, and if some of thy [men] are overthrown at the beginning, whoever hears of it will say, There is a slaughter among the people that follow Absalom.

10. அப்பொழுது சிங்கத்தின் இருதயத்திற்கொத்த இருதயமுள்ள பலவானாயிருக்கிறவனுங்கூட கலங்கிப்போவான்; உம்முடைய தகப்பன் சவுரியவான் என்றும், அவரோடிருக்கிறவர்கள் பலசாலிகள் என்றும், இஸ்ரவேலர் எல்லாரும் அறிவார்கள்.

10. Thus even the valiant, whose heart [is] as the heart of a lion, shall utterly melt, for all Israel knows that thy father [is] a mighty man and [those] who [are] with him [are] valiant men.

11. ஆதலால் நான் சொல்லுகிற யோசனையாவது, தாண்முதல் பெயெர்செபாமட்டும் இருக்கிற கடற்கரை மணலத்தனை திரட்சியான இஸ்ரவேலர் எல்லாரும் உம்மண்டையில் கூட்டப்பட்டு, நீர்தானேகூட யுத்தத்திற்குப் போகவேண்டும்.

11. Therefore I counsel that all Israel be generally gathered unto thee from Dan even to Beersheba, as the sand that [is] by the sea for multitude, and that thou go to battle in thine own person.

12. அப்பொழுது அவரைக் கண்டுபிடிக்கிற எவ்விடத்திலாகிலும் நாம் அவரிடத்தில் போய், பனி பூமியின்மேல் இறங்குவதுபோல அவர்மேல் இறங்குவோம்; அப்படியே அவரோடிருக்கிற எல்லா மனுஷரிலும் ஒருவனும் அவருக்கு மீந்திருப்பதில்லை.

12. Then we shall come upon him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the dew falls on the ground; and of him and of all the men that [are] with him, there shall not be left so much as one.

13. ஒரு பட்டணத்திற்குள் புகுந்தாரேயானால், இஸ்ரவேலர் எல்லாரும் அந்தப் பட்டணத்தின்மேல் கயிறுகளைப் போட்டு, அங்கே ஒரு பொடிக்கல்லும் காணப்படாதே போகுமட்டும், அதை இழுத்து ஆற்றிலே போடுவார்கள் என்றான்.

13. Moreover, if he goes into a city, then all Israel shall bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river until not even one small stone is found there.

14. அப்பொழுது அப்சலோமும் இஸ்ரவேல் மனுஷர் அனைவரும்: அகித்தோப்பேலின் ஆலோசனையைப்பார்க்கிலும் அற்கியனாகிய ஊசாயின் ஆலோசனை நல்லது என்றார்கள்; இப்படி கர்த்தர் அப்சலோமின்மேல் பொல்லாப்பை வரப்பண்ணும்பொருட்டு, அகித்தோப்பேலின் நல்ல ஆலோசனையை அபத்தமாக்குகிறதற்குக் கர்த்தர் கட்டளையிட்டார்.

14. Then Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai, the Archite, [is] better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For the LORD had given orders to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil upon Absalom.

15. பின்பு ஊசாய், சாதோக் அபியத்தார் என்னும் ஆசாரியர்களைப் பார்த்து: இன்ன இன்னபடி அகித்தோப்பேல் அப்சலோமுக்கும் இஸ்ரவேலின் மூப்பருக்கும் ஆலோசனை சொன்னான்; நானோ இன்ன இன்னபடி ஆலோசனை சொன்னேன்.

15. Then Hushai said unto Zadok and to Abiathar, the priests, Thus and thus did Ahithophel counsel Absalom and the elders of Israel, and thus and thus have I counseled.

16. இப்பொழுதும் நீங்கள் சீக்கிரமாய்த் தாவீதுக்கு அறிவிக்கும்படிக்குச் செய்தி அனுப்பி; நீர் இன்று இராத்திரி வனாந்தரத்தின் வெளிகளிலே தங்கவேண்டாம்; ராஜாவும் அவரோடிருக்கிற சகல ஜனங்களும் விழுங்கப்படாதபடிக்குத் தாமதம் இல்லாமல் அக்கரைப்படவேண்டும் என்று சொல்லச்சொல்லுங்கள் என்றான்.

16. Now, therefore, send quickly and tell David, saying, Do not lodge this night in the plains of the wilderness, but speedily pass [the Jordan]; lest the king be swallowed up and all the people that [are] with him.

17. யோனத்தானும் அகிமாசும், தாங்கள் நகரத்தில் பிரவேசிக்கிறதினால் காணப்படாதபடிக்கு, இன்றொகேல் அண்டை நின்றுகொண்டிருந்தார்கள்; ஒரு வேலைக்காரி போய், அதை அவர்களுக்குச் சொன்னாள்; அவர்கள் தாவீது ராஜாவுக்கு அதை அறிவிக்கப்போனார்கள்.

17. Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz stayed by Enrogel, for they could not be seen coming into the city; and a maidservant went and told them, and they went and told king David.

18. Nevertheless, a young man saw them and told Absalom, but both of them went away quickly and came to a man's house in Bahurim, who had a well in his court, and they went down into it.

19. வீட்டுக்காரி ஒரு பாயை எடுத்து, கிணற்றுவாயின்மேல் விரித்து, காரியம் வெளிப்படாதபடிக்கு, அதின்மேல் நொய்யைப் பரப்பிவைத்தாள்.

19. And the woman [of the house] took and spread a covering over the well's mouth and spread ground wheat upon it, and the thing was not known.

20. அப்சலோமின் சேவகர் அந்த ஸ்திரீயினிடத்தில் வீட்டிற்குள் வந்து: அகிமாசும் யோனத்தானும் எங்கே என்று கேட்டார்கள்; அவர்களுக்கு அந்த ஸ்திரீ: வாய்க்காலுக்கு அப்பாலே போய்விட்டார்கள் என்றாள்; இவர்கள் தேடிக்காணாதேபோய், எருசலேமுக்குத் திரும்பினார்கள்.

20. And when Absalom's servants came to the woman to the house, they said, Where [is] Ahimaaz and Jonathan? And the woman said unto them, They have gone over the brook of water. And when they had sought and could not find [them], they returned to Jerusalem.

21. இவர்கள் போனபிற்பாடு, அவர்கள் கிணற்றிலிருந்து ஏறிவந்து, தாவீது ராஜாவுக்கு அறிவித்து, தாவீதை நோக்கி: சீக்கிரமாய் எழுந்து ஆற்றைக் கடந்துபோங்கள்; இன்னபடி அகித்தோப்பேல் உங்களுக்கு விரோதமாய் ஆலோசனை சொன்னான் என்றார்கள்.

21. And it came to pass, after they had departed, that they came up out of the well and went and told king David and said unto David, Arise and pass quickly over the water, for thus has Ahithophel counseled against you.

22. அப்பொழுது தாவீதும் அவனோடிருந்த சகல ஜனங்களும் எழுந்து யோர்தானைக் கடந்துபோனார்கள்; பொழுது விடிகிறதற்குள்ளாக யோர்தானைக் கடவாதவன் ஒருவனும் இல்லை.

22. Then David arose and all the people that [were] with him, and they passed over the Jordan before the morning light; there lacked not one of them that was not gone over the Jordan.

23. அகித்தோப்பேல் தன் யோசனையின்படி நடக்கவில்லை என்று கண்டபோது, தன் கழுதையின்மேல் சேணம்வைத்து ஏறி, தன் ஊரிலிருக்கிற தன் வீட்டுக்குப் போய், தன் வீட்டுக்காரியங்களை ஒழுங்குபடுத்தி, நான்றுகொண்டு செத்தான்; அவன் தகப்பன் கல்லறையில் அவனை அடக்கம்பண்ணினார்கள்.

23. And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled [his] ass and arose, and went home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order and hanged himself and died and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.

24. தாவீது மக்னாயீமுக்கு வந்தான்; அப்சலோமும் சகல இஸ்ரவேலரோடுங்கூட யோர்தானைக் கடந்தான்.

24. Then David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom passed the Jordan with all the men of Israel.

25. அப்சலோம், யோவாபுக்குப் பதிலாக அமாசாவை இராணுவத்தலைவனாக்கினான்; இந்த அமாசா, நாகாசின் குமாரத்தியும், செருயாவின் சகோதரியும் யோவாபின் அத்தையுமாகிய அபிகாயிலைப் படைத்த இஸ்ரவேலனாகிய எத்திரா என்னும் பேருள்ள ஒரு மனுஷனுடைய குமாரனாயிருந்தான்.

25. And Absalom made Amasa captain of the host instead of Joab; this Amasa was the son of a man of Israel named Ithra, who had gone in to Abigail, the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah, Joab's mother.

26. இஸ்ரவேல் ஜனங்களும் அப்சலோமும் கீலேயாத் தேசத்திலே பாளயமிறங்கினார்கள்.

26. So Israel pitched camp with Absalom in the land of Gilead.

27. தாவீது மக்னாயீமில் சேர்ந்தபோது, அம்மோன் புத்திரரின் தேசத்து ரப்பா பட்டணத்தானாகிய சோபி என்னும் நாகாசின் குமாரனும், லோதேபார் ஊரானான அம்மியேலின் குமாரன் மாகீரும், ரோகிலிம் ஊரானும் கீலேயாத்தியனுமாகிய பர்சிலாவும்,

27. And it came to pass, when David arrived at Mahanaim, that Shobi, the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the sons of Ammon; and Machir, the son of Ammiel of Lodebar; and Barzillai, the Gileadite of Rogelim,

28. மெத்தைகளையும், கலங்களையும், மண்பாண்டங்களையும், கோதுமையையும், வாற்கோதுமையையும், மாவையும், வறுத்த பயற்றையும், பெரும் பயற்றையும், சிறு பயற்றையும், வறுத்த சிறு பயற்றையும்,

28. brought beds and basins and earthen vessels and wheat and barley and flour and parched [wheat] and beans and lentils and parched [grain]

29. தேனையும், வெண்ணெயையும், ஆடுகளையும், பால்கட்டிகளையும், தாவீதுக்கும் அவனோடிருந்த ஜனங்களுக்கும் சாப்பிடுகிறதற்குக் கொண்டுவந்தார்கள்; அந்த ஜனங்கள் வனாந்தரத்திலே பசியும் இளைப்பும் தவனமுமாயிருப்பார்கள் என்று இப்படிச் செய்தார்கள்.

29. and honey and butter and sheep and cheese of cows for David and for the people that [were] with him, to eat, for they said, These people [are] hungry and weary and thirsty in the wilderness.:
