1. ராஜாவின் இருதயம் அப்சலோமின் மேல் இன்னும் தாங்கலாயிருக்கிறதைச் செருயாவின் குமாரன் யோவாப் கண்டு,

1. And Joab son of Zeruial knoweth that the heart of the king [is] on Absalom,

2. அவன் தெக்கோவாவிலிருக்கிற புத்தியுள்ள ஒரு ஸ்தீரியை அழைத்து: நீ இழவு கொண்டாடுகிறவளைப்போல, துக்கவஸ்திரங்களை உடுத்திக்கொண்டு, எண்ணெய் பூசிக்கொள்ளாமல், இறந்து போனவனுக்காக நெடுநாள் துக்கிக்கிற ஸ்திரீயைப் போலக் காண்பித்து,

2. and Joab sendeth to Tekoah, and taketh thence a wise woman, and saith unto her, 'Feign thyself a mourner, I pray thee, and put on, I pray thee, garments of mourning, and anoint not thyself with oil, and thou hast been as a woman these many days mourning for the dead,

3. ராஜாவினிடத்தில் போய், அவரை நோக்கி: இன்ன இன்ன பிரகாரமாகச் சொல் என்று அவள் சொல்லவேண்டிய வார்த்தைகளை யோவாப் அவள் வாயிலே போட்டான்.

3. and thou hast gone unto the king, and spoken unto him, according to this word;' and Joab putteth the words into her mouth.

4. அப்படியே தெக்கோவா ஊராளான அந்த ஸ்திரீ ராஜாவோடே பேசப்போய், தரையிலே முகங்குப்புற விழுந்து வணங்கி: ராஜாவே, இரட்சியும் என்றாள்.

4. And the woman of Tekoah speaketh unto the king, and falleth on her face to the earth, and doth obeisance, and saith, 'Save, O king.'

5. ராஜா அவளைப் பார்த்து: உனக்கு என்ன வேண்டும் என்றதற்கு, அவள்: நான் விதவையானவள், என் புருஷன் சென்றுபோனான்.

5. And the king saith to her, 'What -- to thee?' and she saith, 'Truly a widow woman [am] I, and my husband dieth,

6. உமது அடியாளுக்கு இரண்டு குமாரர் இருந்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் இருவரும் வெளியிலே சண்டைபண்ணி, அவர்களை விலக்க ஒருவரும் இல்லாதபடியினால், ஒருவன் மற்றவனை அடித்துக் கொன்றுபோட்டான்.

6. and thy maid-servant hath two sons; and they strive both of them in a field, and there is no deliverer between them, and the one smiteth the other, and putteth him to death;

7. வம்சத்தார் எல்லாரும் உம்முடைய அடியாளுக்கு விரோதமாய் எழும்பி, தன் சகோதரனைக் கொன்று போட்டவனை ஒப்பி; அவன் கொன்ற அவன் சகோதரனுடைய பிராணனுக்காக நாங்கள் அவனைக் கொன்றுபோடுவோம்; சுதந்தரவாளனாயினும் அவனையும் அழித்துப்போடுவோம் என்கிறார்கள். இப்படி என் புருஷனுக்குப் பேரும் நீதியும் பூமியின்மேல் வைக்கப்படாதபடிக்கு, எனக்கு இன்னும் மீதியாயிருக்கிற பொறியையும் அவித்துப்போட மனதாயிருக்கிறார்கள் என்றாள்.

7. and lo, the whole family hath risen against thy maid-servant, and say, Give up him who smiteth his brother, and we put him to death for the life of his brother whom he hath slain, and we destroy also the heir; and they have quenched my coal which is left -- so as not to set to my husband a name and remnant on the face of the ground.'

8. ராஜா அந்த ஸ்திரீயைப் பார்த்து: நீ உன் வீட்டுக்குப் போ, உன் காரியத்தைக் குறித்து உத்தரவு கொடுப்பேன் என்றான்.

8. And the king saith unto the woman, 'Go to thine house, and I give charge concerning thee.'

9. பின்னும் அந்தத் தெக்கோவாவூர் ஸ்திரீ ராஜாவைப் பார்த்து: ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனே, ராஜாவின் மேலும் அவர் சிங்காசனத்தின்மேலும் குற்றமில்லாதபடிக்கு, அந்தப் பழி என்மேலும் என் தகப்பன் வீட்டின்மேலும் சுமரக்கடவது என்றாள்.

9. And the woman of Tekoah saith unto the king, 'On me, my lord, O king, [is] the iniquity, and on the house of my father; and the king and his throne [are] innocent.'

10. அதற்கு ராஜா: உனக்கு விரோதமாகப் பேசுகிறவனை என்னிடத்தில் கொண்டுவா; அப்பொழுது அவன் இனி உன்னைத் தொடாதிருப்பான் என்றான்.

10. And the king saith, 'He who speaketh [aught] unto thee, and thou hast brought him unto me, then he doth not add any more to come against thee.'

11. பின்னும் அவள்: இரத்தப்பழி வாங்குகிறவர்கள் அழிம்பு செய்து, என் குமாரனை அதம்பண்ணப் பெருகிப்போகாதபடிக்கு, ராஜாவானவர் தம்முடைய தேவனாகிய கர்த்தரை நினைப்பாராக என்றாள். அதற்கு ராஜா: உன் குமாரனுடைய மயிரில் ஒன்றாவது தரையில் விழுவதில்லை என்று கர்த்தரின் ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றான்.

11. And she saith, 'Let, I pray thee, the king remember by Jehovah thy God, that the redeemer of blood add not to destroy, and they destroy not my son;' and he saith, 'Jehovah liveth; if there doth fall of the hair of thy son to the earth.'

12. அப்பொழுது அந்த ஸ்திரீ: ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனோடே உமது அடியாள் ஒரு வார்த்தை சொல்ல உத்தரவாக வேண்டும் என்றாள். அவன்: சொல்லு என்றான்.

12. And the woman saith, 'Let, I pray thee, thy maid-servant speak unto my lord the king a word;' and he saith, 'Speak.'

13. அப்பொழுது அந்த ஸ்திரீ: பின்னை ஏன் தேவனுடைய ஜனத்திற்கு விரோதமாய் இப்படிப்பட்ட நினைவை நீர் கொண்டிருக்கிறீர், துரத்துண்ட தம்முடையவனை ராஜா திரும்ப அழைக்காததினாலே, ராஜா இப்பொழுது சொன்ன வார்த்தையினால் குற்றமுள்ளவரைப்போல் இருக்கிறார்.

13. And the woman saith, 'And why hast thou thought thus concerning the people of God? yea, the king is speaking this thing as a guilty one, in that the king hath not brought back his outcast;

14. நாம் மரிப்பது நிச்சயம், திரும்பச் சேர்க்கக்கூடாதபடிக்கு, தரையிலே சுவறுகிற தண்ணீரைப்போல் இருக்கிறோம்; தேவன் ஜீவனை எடுத்துக்கொள்ளாமல், துரத்துண்டவன் முற்றிலும் தம்மை விட்டு விலக்கப்படாதிருக்கும் நினைவுகளை நினைக்கிறார்.

14. for we do surely die, and [are] as water which is running down to the earth, which is not gathered, and God doth not accept a person, and hath devised devices in that the outcast is not outcast by Him.

15. இப்பொழுதும் நான் என் ஆண்டவனாகிய ராஜாவோடே இந்த வார்த்தையைப் பேசவந்த முகாந்தரம் என்னவென்றால்: ஜனங்கள் எனக்குப் பயமுண்டாக்கினதினால், நான் ராஜாவோடே பேசவந்தேன்; ஒருவேளை ராஜா தமது அடியாளுடைய வார்த்தையின்படி செய்வார் என்று உமது அடியாளாகிய நான் நினைத்ததினாலும் வந்தேனே ஒழிய வேறில்லை.

15. 'And now that I have come to speak unto the king my lord this word, [it is] because the people made me afraid, and thy maid-servant saith, Let me speak, I pray thee, unto the king; it may be the king doth do the word of his handmaid,

16. என்னையும் என் குமாரனையும் ஏகமாய் தேவனுடைய சுதந்தரத்திற்குப் புறம்பாக்கி, அழிக்க நினைக்கிற மனுஷனுடைய கைக்குத் தமது அடியாளை நீங்கலாக்கிவிடும்படிக்கு ராஜா கேட்பார்.

16. for the king doth hearken to deliver his handmaid out of the paw of the man [seeking] to destroy me and my son together out of the inheritance of God,

17. ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனுடைய வார்த்தை எனக்கு ஆறுதலாயிருக்கும் என்று உமது அடியாளாகிய நான் எண்ணினேன்; நன்மையையும் தீமையையும் கேட்கும்படி, ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவன் தேவனுடைய தூதனைப் போல இருக்கிறார்; இதற்காக உம்முடைய தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உம்மோடேக்கூட இருக்கிறார் என்றாள்.

17. and thy maid-servant saith, Let, I pray thee, the word of my lord the king be for ease; for as a messenger of God so [is] my lord the king, to understand the good and the evil; and Jehovah thy God is with thee.'

18. அப்பொழுது ராஜா அந்த ஸ்திரீக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: நான் உன்னிடத்தில் கேட்கும் காரியத்தை நீ எனக்கு மறைக்க வேண்டாம் என்றான். அதற்கு அந்த ஸ்திரீ, ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவர் சொல்வாராக என்றாள்.

18. And the king answereth and saith unto the woman, 'Do not, I pray thee, hide from me the thing that I am asking thee;' and the woman saith, 'Let, I pray thee, my lord the king speak.'

19. அப்பொழுது ராஜா: இதிலெல்லாம் யோவாப் உனக்கு உட்கையாய் இருக்கவில்லையா என்று கேட்டான். அதற்கு ஸ்திரீ பிரதியுத்தரமாக, ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவன் சொன்னதற்கெல்லாம் வலது பக்கத்திலாவது இடது பக்கத்திலாவது விலகுவதற்கு ஒருவராலும் கூடாது என்று ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனுடைய ஜீவனைக் கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன்; உமது அடியானாகிய யோவாப் தான் இதை எனக்குக் கற்பித்து, அவனே இந்த எல்லா வார்த்தைகளையும் உமது அடியாளின் வாயிலே போட்டான்.

19. And the king saith, 'Is the hand of Joab with thee in all this?' And the woman answereth and saith, 'Thy soul liveth, my lord, O king, none [doth turn] to the right or to the left from all that my lord the king hath spoken; for thy servant Joab he commanded me, and he put in the mouth of thy maid-servant all these words;

20. நான் இந்தக் காரியத்தை உபமானமாய்ப் பேசுகிறதற்கு உமது அடியானாகிய யோவாப் அதற்குக் காரணமாயிருந்தான்; ஆனாலும் தேசத்தில் நடக்கிறதையெல்லாம் அறிய, என் ஆண்டவனுடைய ஞானம் தேவதூதனுடைய ஞானத்தைப் போல் இருக்கிறது என்றாள்.

20. in order to bring round the appearance of the thing hath thy servant Joab done this thing, and my lord [is] wise, according to the wisdom of a messenger of God, to know all that [is] in the land.'

21. அப்பொழுது ராஜா யோவாபைப் பார்த்து: இதோ, இந்தக் காரியத்தைச் செய்கிறேன், நீ போய் அப்சலோம் என்னும் பிள்ளையாண்டானைத் திரும்ப அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவா என்றான்.

21. And the king saith unto Joab, 'Lo, I pray thee, thou hast done this thing; and go, bring back the young man Absalom.'

22. அப்பொழுது யோவாப் தரையிலே முகங்குப்புற விழுந்து வணங்கி, ராஜாவை வாழ்த்தி, ராஜா தமது அடியானுடைய வார்த்தையின்படி செய்ததினால், என் ஆண்டவனாகிய ராஜாவின் கண்களில் எனக்குத் தயைகிடைத்தது என்று இன்று உமது அடியானுக்குத் தெரியவந்தது என்றான்.

22. And Joab falleth on his face to the earth, and doth obeisance, and blesseth the king, and Joab saith, 'To-day hath thy servant known that I have found grace in thine eyes, my lord, O king, in that the king hath done the word of his servant.'

23. பின்பு யோவாப் எழுந்து, கேசூருக்குப் போய், அப்சலோமை எருசலேமுக்கு அழைத்துக்கொண்டு வந்தான்.

23. And Joab riseth and goeth to Geshur, and bringeth in Absalom to Jerusalem,

24. ராஜா: அவன் என் முகத்தைப் பார்க்கவேண்டியதில்லை; தன் வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்பிப் போகட்டும் என்றான்; அப்படியே அப்சலோம் ராஜாவின் முகத்தைப் பார்க்காமல் தன் வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்பிப்போனான்.

24. and the king saith, 'Let him turn round unto his house, and my face he doth not see.' And Absalom turneth round unto his house, and the face of the king he hath not seen.

25. இஸ்ரவேலர் அனைவருக்குள்ளும் அப்சலோமைப்போல் சவுந்தரியமுள்ளவனும் மெச்சிக்கொள்ளப்பட்டவனும் இல்லை; உள்ளங்கால் தொடங்கி உச்சந்தலைமட்டும் அவனில் ஒரு பழுதும் இல்லாதிருந்தது.

25. And like Absalom there was no man [so] fair in all Israel, to praise greatly; from the sole of his foot even unto his crown there was no blemish in him;

26. அவன் தன் தலைமயிர் தனக்குப் பாரமாயிருப்பதினால் வருஷாந்தரம் சிரைத்துக்கொள்ளுவான்; சிரைக்கும்போது, அவன் தலைமயிர் ராஜாவுடைய நிறையின்படி இருநூறு சேக்கல் நிறையாயிருக்கும்.

26. and in his polling his head -- and it hath been at the end of year by year that he polleth [it], for it [is] heavy on him, and he hath polled it -- he hath even weighed out the hair of his head -- two hundred shekels by the king's weight.

27. அப்சலோமுக்கு மூன்று குமாரரும், தாமார் என்னும் பேர்கொண்ட ஒரு குமாரத்தியும் பிறந்தார்கள்; இவள் ரூபவதியான பெண்ணாயிருந்தாள்.

27. And there are born to Absalom three sons, and one daughter, and her name [is] Tamar; she was a woman of a fair appearance.

28. அப்சலோம், ராஜாவின் முகத்தைக் காணாமலே, இரண்டு வருஷம் எருசலேமிலே குடியிருந்தான்.

28. And Absalom dwelleth in Jerusalem two years of days, and the face of the king he hath not seen;

29. ஆகையால் அப்சலோம் யோவாபை ராஜாவினிடத்தில் அனுப்பும்படி அழைப்பித்தான்; அவனோ அவனிடத்திற்கு வரமாட்டேன் என்றான்; இரண்டாம்விசையும் அவன் அழைத்தனுப்பினான்; அவன் வரமாட்டேன் என்றான்.

29. and Absalom sendeth unto Joab, to send him unto the king, and he hath not been willing to come unto him; and he sendeth again a second time, and he hath not been willing to come.

30. அப்பொழுது அவன் தன் வேலைக்காரரைப் பார்த்து: இதோ என் நிலத்திற்கு அருகே யோவாபின் நிலம் இருக்கிறது; அதிலே அவனுக்கு வாற்கோதுமை விளைந்திருக்கிறது; நீங்கள் போய் அதைத் தீக்கொளுத்திப் போடுங்கள் என்றான்; அப்படியே அப்சலோமின் வேலைக்காரர் அந்த நிலத்தை தீக்கொளுத்திப் போட்டார்கள்.

30. And he saith unto his servants, 'See, the portion of Joab [is] by the side of mine, and he hath barley there; go, and burn it with fire;' and the servants of Absalom burn the portion with fire.

31. அப்பொழுது யோவாப் எழுந்திருந்து, அப்சலோமிடத்தில் வீட்டிற்குள் போய், என்னுடைய நிலத்தை உம்முடைய வேலைக்காரர் தீக்கொளுத்திப்போட்டது என்ன என்று அவனைக் கேட்டான்.

31. And Joab riseth and cometh unto Absalom in the house, and saith unto him, 'Why have thy servants burned the portion that I have with fire?'

32. அப்சலோம் யோவாபைப் பார்த்து: இதோ, நான் ஏன் கேசூரிலிருந்து வந்தேன்; நான் அங்கே இருந்துவிட்டால் நலம் என்று ராஜாவுக்குச் சொல்லும்படி உம்மை ராஜாவினிடத்தில் அனுப்புவதற்காக உம்மை இங்கே வரும்படி அழைப்பித்தேன்; இப்போதும் நான் ராஜாவின் முகத்தைப் பார்க்கட்டும்; என்மேல் குற்றமிருந்தால் அவர் என்னைக் கொன்றுபோடட்டும் என்றான்.

32. And Absalom saith unto Joab, 'Lo, I sent unto thee, saying, Come hither, and I send thee unto the king to say, Why have I come in from Geshur? -- good for me while I [am] there -- and now, let me see the king's face, and if there is in me iniquity then thou hast put me to death.'

33. யோவாப் ராஜாவினிடத்தில் போய், அதை அவனுக்கு அறிவித்தபோது, அப்சலோமை அழைப்பித்தான்; அவன் ராஜாவினிடத்தில் வந்து, ராஜாவுக்கு முன்பாகத் தரையிலே முகங்குப்புற விழுந்து வணங்கினான், அப்பொழுது ராஜா அப்சலோமை முத்தமிட்டான்.

33. And Joab cometh unto the king, and declareth [it] to him, and he calleth unto Absalom, and he cometh unto the king, and boweth himself to him, on his face, to the earth, before the king, and the king giveth a kiss to Absalom.
