1. யாக்கோபு பிரயாணம்பண்ணி, கீழ்த்திசையாரின் தேசத்தில் போய்ச் சேர்ந்தான்.

1. Then Iaakob lift vp his feete and came into the East countrey.

2. அங்கே வயல்வெளியிலே ஒரு கிணற்றையும், அதின் அருகே மடக்கியிருக்கிற மூன்று ஆட்டுமந்தைகளையும் கண்டான்; அந்தக் கிணற்றிலே மந்தைகளுக்குத் தண்ணீர் காட்டுவார்கள்; அந்தக் கிணற்றின் வாய் ஒரு பெரிய கல்லினால் அடைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது.

2. And as he looked about, behold there was a well in the field, and lo, three flocks of sheepe lay thereby (for at that well were the flockes watered) and there was a great stone vpon the welles mouth.

3. அவ்விடத்தில் மந்தைகள் எல்லாம் சேர்ந்தபின் கிணற்றின் வாயிலிருக்கும் கல்லை மேய்ப்பர் புரட்டி, ஆடுகளுக்குத் தண்ணீர் காட்டி, மறுபடியும் கல்லை முன்னிருந்தபடி கிணற்றின் வாயில் வைப்பார்கள்.

3. And thither were all the flockes gathered, and they rolled the stone from the welles mouth, and watered the sheepe, and put the stone againe vpon the welles mouth in his place.

4. யாக்கோபு அவர்களைப் பார்த்து: சகோதரரே, நீங்கள் எவ்விடத்தார் என்றான்; அவர்கள், நாங்கள் ஆரான் ஊரார் என்றார்கள்.

4. And Iaakob sayde vnto them, My brethren, whence be ye? And they answered, We are of Haran.

5. அப்பொழுது அவன்: நாகோரின் குமாரனாகிய லாபானை அறிவீர்களா என்று கேட்டான்; அறிவோம் என்றார்கள்.

5. Then he sayd vnto them, Know ye Laban the sonne of Nahor? Who said, We know him.

6. அவன் சுகமாயிருக்கிறானா என்று விசாரித்தான்; அதற்கு அவர்கள்: சுகமாயிருக்கிறான்; அவன் குமாரத்தியாகிய ராகேல், அதோ, ஆடுகளை ஓட்டிக்கொண்டு வருகிறாள் என்று சொன்னார்கள்.

6. Againe he sayd vnto them, Is he in good health? And they answered, He is in good health, and beholde, his daughter Rahel commeth with the sheepe.

7. அப்பொழுது அவன்: இன்னும் வெகு பொழுதிருக்கிறதே; இது மந்தைகளைச் சேர்க்கிற வேளை அல்லவே, ஆடுகளுக்குத் தண்ணீர் காட்டி, இன்னும் மேயவிடலாம் என்றான்.

7. Then he sayd, Lo, it is yet hie day, neither is it time that the cattell shoulde be gathered together: water ye the sheepe and go feede them.

8. அதற்கு அவர்கள்: எல்லா மந்தைகளும் சேருமுன்னே அப்படிச் செய்யக்கூடாது; சேர்ந்தபின் கிணற்றின் வாயிலுள்ள கல்லைப் புரட்டுவார்கள்; அப்பொழுது ஆடுகளுக்குத் தண்ணீர் காட்டுவோம் என்றார்கள்.

8. But they sayde, We may not vntill all the flocks be brought together, and till men rolle the stone from the welles mouth, that we may water the sheepe.

9. அவர்களோடே அவன் பேசிக்கொண்டிருக்கும்போதே, தன் தகப்பனுடைய ஆடுகளை மேய்த்துக்கொண்டுருந்த ராகேல் அந்த ஆடுகளை ஓட்டிக்கொண்டு வந்தாள்.

9. While he talked with them, Rahel also came with her fathers sheepe, for she kept them.

10. யாக்கோபு தன் தாயின் சகோதரனான லாபானுடைய குமாரத்தியாகிய ராகேலையும், தன் தாயின் சகோதரனாகிய லாபானின் ஆடுகளையும் கண்டபோது, யாக்கோபு போய், கிணற்றின் வாயிலிருந்த கல்லைப் புரட்டி, தன் தாயின் சகோதரனாகிய லாபானின் ஆடுகளுக்குத் தண்ணீர் காட்டினான்.

10. And assoone as Iaakob saw Rahel ye daughter of Laban his mothers brother, and the sheepe of Laban his mothers brother, then came Iaakob neere, and rolled the stone from the welles mouth, and watered ye flocke of Laban his mothers brother.

11. பின்பு யாக்கோபு ராகேலை முத்தஞ்செய்து, சத்தமிட்டு அழுது,

11. And Iaakob kissed Rahel, and lift vp his voyce and wept.

12. தான் அவள் தகப்பனுடைய மருமகனென்றும், ரெபெக்காளின் குமாரனென்றும் ராகேலுக்கு அறிவித்தான். அவள் ஓடிப்போய்த் தன் தகப்பனுக்கு அறிவித்தாள்.

12. (For Iaakob tolde Rahel, that he was her fathers brother, and that he was Rebekahs sonne) then she ranne and tolde her father.

13. லாபான் தன் சகோதரியின் குமாரனாகிய யாக்கோபுடைய செய்தியைக் கேட்டபோது, அவனுக்கு எதிர்கொண்டோடி, அவனைக் கட்டிக்கொண்டு முத்தஞ்செய்து, தன் வீட்டுக்கு அழைத்துக்கொண்டுபோனான்; அவன் தன் காரியங்களையெல்லாம் விவரமாய் லாபானுக்குச் சொன்னான்.

13. And when Laban heard tell of Iaakob his sisters sonne, he ranne to meete him, and embraced him and kissed him, and brought him to his house: and he tolde Laban all these things.

14. அப்பொழுது லாபான்: நீ என் எலும்பும் என் மாம்சமுமானவன் என்றான். ஒரு மாதம்வரைக்கும் யாக்கோபு அவனிடத்தில் தங்கினான்.

14. To whome Laban sayd, Well, thou art my bone and my flesh. and he abode with him the space of a moneth.

15. பின்பு லாபான் யாக்கோபை நோக்கி: நீ என் மருமகனாயிருப்பதினால், சும்மா எனக்கு வேலைசெய்யலாமா? சம்பளம் எவ்வளவு கேட்கிறாய், சொல் என்றான்.

15. For Laban sayde vnto Iaakob, Though thou be my brother, shouldest thou therfore serue me for nought? tell me, what shalbe thy wages?

16. லாபானுக்கு இரண்டு குமாரத்திகள் இருந்தார்கள்; மூத்தவள் பேர் லேயாள், இளையவள் பேர் ராகேல்.

16. Now Laban had two daughters, the elder called Leah, and the yonger called Rahel.

17. லேயாளுடைய கண்கள் கூச்சப்பார்வையாயிருந்தது; ராகேலோ ரூபவதியும் பார்வைக்கு அழகானவளுமாயிருந்தாள்.

17. And Leah was tender eyed, but Rahel was beautifull and faire.

18. யாக்கோபு ராகேல் பேரில் பிரியப்பட்டு: உம்முடைய இளைய குமாரத்தியாகிய ராகேலுக்காக உம்மிடத்தில் ஏழு வருஷம் வேலை செய்கிறேன் என்றான்.

18. And Iaakob loued Rahel, and sayde, I will serue thee seuen yeeres for Rahel thy yonger daughter.

19. அதற்கு லாபான்: நான் அவளை அந்நிய புருஷனுக்குக் கொடுக்கிறதைப்பார்க்கிலும், அவளை உனக்குக் கொடுக்கிறது உத்தமம், என்னிடத்தில் தரித்திரு என்றான்.

19. Then Laban answered, It is better that I giue her thee, then that I should giue her to another man: abide with me.

20. அந்தப்படியே யாக்கோபு ராகேலுக்காக ஏழு வருஷம் வேலை செய்தான்; அவள் பேரில் இருந்த பிரியத்தினாலே அந்த வருஷங்கள் அவனுக்குக் கொஞ்ச நாளாகத் தோன்றினது.

20. And Iaakob serued seuen yeres for Rahel, and they seemed vnto him but a few dayes, because he loued her.

21. பின்பு யாக்கோபு லாபானை நோக்கி: என் நாட்கள் நிறைவேறினபடியால், என் மனைவியிடத்தில் நான் சேரும்படி அவளை எனக்குத் தரவேண்டும் என்றான்.

21. Then Iaakob sayde to Laban, Giue me my wife, that I may goe in to her: for my terme is ended.

22. அப்பொழுது லாபான் அவ்விடத்து மனிதர் எல்லாரையும் கூடிவரச்செய்து விருந்துபண்ணினான்.

22. Wherefore Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.

23. அன்று இரவிலே அவன் தன் குமாரத்தியாகிய லேயாளை அழைத்துக்கொண்டுபோய், அவனிடத்தில் விட்டான்; அவளை அவன் சேர்ந்தான்.

23. But whe the euening was come, he tooke Leah his daughter and brought her to him, and he went in vnto her.

24. லாபான் தன் வேலைக்காரியாகிய சில்பாளைத் தன் குமாரத்தியாகிய லேயாளுக்கு வேலைக்காரியாகக் கொடுத்தான்.

24. And Laban gaue his mayde Zilpah to his daughter Leah, to be her seruant.

25. காலையிலே, இதோ, அவள் லேயாள் என்று யாக்கோபு கண்டு, லாபானை நோக்கி: ஏன் எனக்கு இப்படிச் செய்தீர்? ராகேலுக்காக அல்லவா உம்மிடத்தில் வேலைசெய்தேன்; பின்னை ஏன் எனக்கு வஞ்சகம்பண்ணினீர் என்றான்.

25. But when the morning was come, behold, it was Leah. Then sayde he to Laban, Wherefore hast thou done thus to mee? did not I serue thee for Rahel? wherfore then hast thou beguiled me?

26. அதற்கு லாபான்: மூத்தவள் இருக்க இளையவளைக் கொடுப்பது இவ்விடத்து வழக்கம் அல்ல.

26. And Laban answered, It is not the maner of this place, to giue the yonger before the elder.

27. இவளுடைய ஏழு நாளை நிறைவேற்று; அவளையும் உனக்குத் தருவேன்; அவளுக்காகவும் நீ இன்னும் ஏழு வருஷம் என்னிடத்திலே வேலைசெய் என்றான்.

27. Fulfill seuen yeeres for her, and we wil also giue thee this for the seruice, which thou shalt serue me yet seuen yeeres more.

28. அந்தபடியே யாக்கோபு, இவளுடைய ஏழு நாளை நிறைவேற்றினான். அப்பொழுது தன் குமாரத்தியாகிய ராகேலையும் அவனுக்கு மனைவியாகக் கொடுத்தான்.

28. Then Iaakob did so, and fulfilled her seuen yeeres, so he gaue him Rahel his daughter to be his wife.

29. மேலும் லாபான் தன் வேலைக்காரியாகிய பில்காளைத் தன் குமாரத்தியாகிய ராகேலுக்கு வேலைக்காரியாகக் கொடுத்தான்.

29. Laban also gaue to Rahel his daughter Bilhah his mayde to be her seruant.

30. யாக்கோபு ராகேலையும் சேர்ந்தான்; லேயாளைப்பார்க்கிலும் ராகேலை அவன் அதிகமாய் நேசித்து, பின்னும் ஏழு வருஷம் அவனிடத்தில் சேவித்தான்.

30. So entred he in to Rahel also, and loued also Rahel more then Leah, and serued him yet seuen yeeres more.

31. லேயாள் அற்பமாய் எண்ணப்பட்டாள் என்று கர்த்தர் கண்டு, அவள் கர்ப்பந்தரிக்கும்படி செய்தார்; ராகேலோ மலடியாயிருந்தாள்.

31. When the Lord saw that Leah was despised, he made her fruitful: but Rahel was barren.

32. லேயாள் கர்ப்பவதியாகி ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்று: கர்த்தர் என் சிறுமையைப் பார்த்தருளினார்; இப்பொழுது என் புருஷன் என்னை நேசிப்பார் என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்கு ரூபன் என்று பேரிட்டாள்.

32. And Leah conceiued and bare a sonne, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Because the Lord hath looked vpon my tribulation, now therefore mine husband will loue me.

33. மறுபடியும் அவள் கர்ப்பவதியாகி ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்று: நான் அற்பமாய் எண்ணப்பட்டதைக் கர்த்தர் கேட்டருளி, இவனையும் எனக்குத் தந்தார் என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்குச் சிமியோன் என்று பேரிட்டாள்.

33. And she conceiued againe and bare a sonne, and sayde, Because the Lord heard that I was hated, he hath therefore giuen me this sonne also, and she called his name Simeon.

34. பின்னும் அவள் கர்ப்பவதியாகி ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்று: என் புருஷனுக்கு மூன்று குமாரரைப் பெற்றபடியால் அவர் இப்பொழுது என்னோடே சேர்ந்திருப்பார் என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்கு லேவி என்று பேரிட்டாள்.

34. And she conceiued againe and bare a sonne, and said, Now at this time wil my husband keepe mee company, because I haue borne him three sonnes: therefore was his name called Leui.

35. மறுபடியும் அவள் கர்ப்பவதியாகி ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்று: இப்பொழுது கர்த்தரைத் துதிப்பேன் என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்கு யூதா என்று பேரிட்டாள்; பிற்பாடு அவளுக்குப் பிள்ளைப்பேறு நின்று போயிற்று.

35. Moreouer shee conceiued againe and bare a sonne, saying, Nowe will I prayse the Lord: therefore shee called his name Iudah, and left bearing.
