1. யாக்கோபு பிரயாணம்பண்ணி, கீழ்த்திசையாரின் தேசத்தில் போய்ச் சேர்ந்தான்.

1. Then Iacob gat him vp vpon his fete, and wente in to the east countre,

2. அங்கே வயல்வெளியிலே ஒரு கிணற்றையும், அதின் அருகே மடக்கியிருக்கிற மூன்று ஆட்டுமந்தைகளையும் கண்டான்; அந்தக் கிணற்றிலே மந்தைகளுக்குத் தண்ணீர் காட்டுவார்கள்; அந்தக் கிணற்றின் வாய் ஒரு பெரிய கல்லினால் அடைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது.

2. & loked aboute him, and beholde, there was a well in the felde, and ye flockes of shepe therby, for the flockes dranke of the well. And there laye a greate stone at the welles mouth,

3. அவ்விடத்தில் மந்தைகள் எல்லாம் சேர்ந்தபின் கிணற்றின் வாயிலிருக்கும் கல்லை மேய்ப்பர் புரட்டி, ஆடுகளுக்குத் தண்ணீர் காட்டி, மறுபடியும் கல்லை முன்னிருந்தபடி கிணற்றின் வாயில் வைப்பார்கள்.

3. and thyther they vsed to brynge the flockes, and to roule the stone from ye mouth of the well, and to geue the shepe drynke, & so they put the stone agayne vpon the welles mouth in to his place.

4. யாக்கோபு அவர்களைப் பார்த்து: சகோதரரே, நீங்கள் எவ்விடத்தார் என்றான்; அவர்கள், நாங்கள் ஆரான் ஊரார் என்றார்கள்.

4. And Iacob sayde vnto them: Brethren, whece be ye? They answered: we are of Haran.

5. அப்பொழுது அவன்: நாகோரின் குமாரனாகிய லாபானை அறிவீர்களா என்று கேட்டான்; அறிவோம் என்றார்கள்.

5. He sayde vnto them: Knowe ye Laban the sonne of Nahor? They answered: We knowe him well.

6. அவன் சுகமாயிருக்கிறானா என்று விசாரித்தான்; அதற்கு அவர்கள்: சுகமாயிருக்கிறான்; அவன் குமாரத்தியாகிய ராகேல், அதோ, ஆடுகளை ஓட்டிக்கொண்டு வருகிறாள் என்று சொன்னார்கள்.

6. He sayde: Is he in good health? They answered: he is in good health. And lo, there commeth his doughter Rachel with the shepe.

7. அப்பொழுது அவன்: இன்னும் வெகு பொழுதிருக்கிறதே; இது மந்தைகளைச் சேர்க்கிற வேளை அல்லவே, ஆடுகளுக்குத் தண்ணீர் காட்டி, இன்னும் மேயவிடலாம் என்றான்.

7. He sayde: It is yet hye daye, & is not yet tyme to dryue in the catell: geue the shepe to drynke, & go youre waye, & fede them.

8. அதற்கு அவர்கள்: எல்லா மந்தைகளும் சேருமுன்னே அப்படிச் செய்யக்கூடாது; சேர்ந்தபின் கிணற்றின் வாயிலுள்ள கல்லைப் புரட்டுவார்கள்; அப்பொழுது ஆடுகளுக்குத் தண்ணீர் காட்டுவோம் என்றார்கள்.

8. They answered: We can not, tyll all the flockes be brought together, and tyll we roule the stone from the welles mouth, & so geue the shepe drynke.

9. அவர்களோடே அவன் பேசிக்கொண்டிருக்கும்போதே, தன் தகப்பனுடைய ஆடுகளை மேய்த்துக்கொண்டுருந்த ராகேல் அந்த ஆடுகளை ஓட்டிக்கொண்டு வந்தாள்.

9. Whyle he yet talked with them, Rachel came with hir fathers shepe, for she kepte ye shepe.

10. யாக்கோபு தன் தாயின் சகோதரனான லாபானுடைய குமாரத்தியாகிய ராகேலையும், தன் தாயின் சகோதரனாகிய லாபானின் ஆடுகளையும் கண்டபோது, யாக்கோபு போய், கிணற்றின் வாயிலிருந்த கல்லைப் புரட்டி, தன் தாயின் சகோதரனாகிய லாபானின் ஆடுகளுக்குத் தண்ணீர் காட்டினான்.

10. Whan Iacob sawe Rachel ye doughter of Laban his mothers brother, and the shepe of Laban his mothers brother, he wete, & rouled the stone from the welles mouth, and gaue his mothers brother shepe to drynke,

11. பின்பு யாக்கோபு ராகேலை முத்தஞ்செய்து, சத்தமிட்டு அழுது,

11. and kyssed Rachel, lift vp his voyce, and wepte,

12. தான் அவள் தகப்பனுடைய மருமகனென்றும், ரெபெக்காளின் குமாரனென்றும் ராகேலுக்கு அறிவித்தான். அவள் ஓடிப்போய்த் தன் தகப்பனுக்கு அறிவித்தாள்.

12. and tolde her, yt he was hir fathers brother, and ye sonne of Rebecca. Then ranne she, and tolde her father.

13. லாபான் தன் சகோதரியின் குமாரனாகிய யாக்கோபுடைய செய்தியைக் கேட்டபோது, அவனுக்கு எதிர்கொண்டோடி, அவனைக் கட்டிக்கொண்டு முத்தஞ்செய்து, தன் வீட்டுக்கு அழைத்துக்கொண்டுபோனான்; அவன் தன் காரியங்களையெல்லாம் விவரமாய் லாபானுக்குச் சொன்னான்.

13. Wha Laban herde of Iacob his sisters sonne, he ranne to mete him, and enbraced him, and kyssed him, and brought him in to his house. And so he tolde him all this matter.

14. அப்பொழுது லாபான்: நீ என் எலும்பும் என் மாம்சமுமானவன் என்றான். ஒரு மாதம்வரைக்கும் யாக்கோபு அவனிடத்தில் தங்கினான்.

14. The sayde Laban vnto him: Wel, thou art my bone and my flesh. Abyde with me a moneth longe.

15. பின்பு லாபான் யாக்கோபை நோக்கி: நீ என் மருமகனாயிருப்பதினால், சும்மா எனக்கு வேலைசெய்யலாமா? சம்பளம் எவ்வளவு கேட்கிறாய், சொல் என்றான்.

15. But after that saide he vnto Iacob: Because thou art my brother, shalt thou therfore serue me for nought? Tell me, what shall thy wages be.

16. லாபானுக்கு இரண்டு குமாரத்திகள் இருந்தார்கள்; மூத்தவள் பேர் லேயாள், இளையவள் பேர் ராகேல்.

16. Laban had two doughters, the eldest was called Lea, & the yongest Rachel.

17. லேயாளுடைய கண்கள் கூச்சப்பார்வையாயிருந்தது; ராகேலோ ரூபவதியும் பார்வைக்கு அழகானவளுமாயிருந்தாள்.

17. And Lea was tender eyed, but Rachel was beutyfull & well fauoured of face,

18. யாக்கோபு ராகேல் பேரில் பிரியப்பட்டு: உம்முடைய இளைய குமாரத்தியாகிய ராகேலுக்காக உம்மிடத்தில் ஏழு வருஷம் வேலை செய்கிறேன் என்றான்.

18. and Iacob loued her well, and sayde: I will serue the seuen yeare, for Rachel thy yongest doughter.

19. அதற்கு லாபான்: நான் அவளை அந்நிய புருஷனுக்குக் கொடுக்கிறதைப்பார்க்கிலும், அவளை உனக்குக் கொடுக்கிறது உத்தமம், என்னிடத்தில் தரித்திரு என்றான்.

19. Laban answered: It is better that I geue her the, then vnto another: tary thou with me.

20. அந்தப்படியே யாக்கோபு ராகேலுக்காக ஏழு வருஷம் வேலை செய்தான்; அவள் பேரில் இருந்த பிரியத்தினாலே அந்த வருஷங்கள் அவனுக்குக் கொஞ்ச நாளாகத் தோன்றினது.

20. So Iacob serued seuen yeare for Rachel, and they semed vnto him but few dayes, he loued her so well.

21. பின்பு யாக்கோபு லாபானை நோக்கி: என் நாட்கள் நிறைவேறினபடியால், என் மனைவியிடத்தில் நான் சேரும்படி அவளை எனக்குத் தரவேண்டும் என்றான்.

21. And Iacob saide vnto Laban: geue me my wyfe, for the tyme is come that I shulde lye with her.

22. அப்பொழுது லாபான் அவ்விடத்து மனிதர் எல்லாரையும் கூடிவரச்செய்து விருந்துபண்ணினான்.

22. The Laban bad all the people of that place, and made a mariage.

23. அன்று இரவிலே அவன் தன் குமாரத்தியாகிய லேயாளை அழைத்துக்கொண்டுபோய், அவனிடத்தில் விட்டான்; அவளை அவன் சேர்ந்தான்.

23. But at eue he toke his doughter Lea, and brought her in vnto him, and he laye wt her.

24. லாபான் தன் வேலைக்காரியாகிய சில்பாளைத் தன் குமாரத்தியாகிய லேயாளுக்கு வேலைக்காரியாகக் கொடுத்தான்.

24. And Laban gaue Zilpa his mayde vnto his doughter Lea to be hir mayde.

25. காலையிலே, இதோ, அவள் லேயாள் என்று யாக்கோபு கண்டு, லாபானை நோக்கி: ஏன் எனக்கு இப்படிச் செய்தீர்? ராகேலுக்காக அல்லவா உம்மிடத்தில் வேலைசெய்தேன்; பின்னை ஏன் எனக்கு வஞ்சகம்பண்ணினீர் என்றான்.

25. But on the morow, beholde, it was Lea. And he sayde vnto Laban: Why hast thou done this vnto me? Haue not I serued ye for Rachel? Why hast thou then begyled me?

26. அதற்கு லாபான்: மூத்தவள் இருக்க இளையவளைக் கொடுப்பது இவ்விடத்து வழக்கம் அல்ல.

26. Laban answered: It is not the maner in oure countre, to mary the yongest before the eldest.

27. இவளுடைய ஏழு நாளை நிறைவேற்று; அவளையும் உனக்குத் தருவேன்; அவளுக்காகவும் நீ இன்னும் ஏழு வருஷம் என்னிடத்திலே வேலைசெய் என்றான்.

27. Holde out this weke, & I will geue the this also, for the seruyce yt thou shalt do me yet seuen yeares more.

28. அந்தபடியே யாக்கோபு, இவளுடைய ஏழு நாளை நிறைவேற்றினான். அப்பொழுது தன் குமாரத்தியாகிய ராகேலையும் அவனுக்கு மனைவியாகக் கொடுத்தான்.

28. Iacob dyd so, & helde out yt weke. Then gaue he him Rachel his doughter to wyfe.

29. மேலும் லாபான் தன் வேலைக்காரியாகிய பில்காளைத் தன் குமாரத்தியாகிய ராகேலுக்கு வேலைக்காரியாகக் கொடுத்தான்.

29. And Laban gaue Bilha his mayden vnto Rachel his doughter to be hir mayden.

30. யாக்கோபு ராகேலையும் சேர்ந்தான்; லேயாளைப்பார்க்கிலும் ராகேலை அவன் அதிகமாய் நேசித்து, பின்னும் ஏழு வருஷம் அவனிடத்தில் சேவித்தான்.

30. So he laye with Rachel also, & loued Rachel more the Lea, and serued him yet seuen yeares more.

31. லேயாள் அற்பமாய் எண்ணப்பட்டாள் என்று கர்த்தர் கண்டு, அவள் கர்ப்பந்தரிக்கும்படி செய்தார்; ராகேலோ மலடியாயிருந்தாள்.

31. But when the LORDE sawe, that Lea was nothinge regarded, he made her frutefull, and Rachel baren.

32. லேயாள் கர்ப்பவதியாகி ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்று: கர்த்தர் என் சிறுமையைப் பார்த்தருளினார்; இப்பொழுது என் புருஷன் என்னை நேசிப்பார் என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்கு ரூபன் என்று பேரிட்டாள்.

32. And Lea coceaued, and bare a sonne, whom she called Ruben, and sayde: The LORDE hath loked vpon my aduersite. Now wyll my husbande loue me.

33. மறுபடியும் அவள் கர்ப்பவதியாகி ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்று: நான் அற்பமாய் எண்ணப்பட்டதைக் கர்த்தர் கேட்டருளி, இவனையும் எனக்குத் தந்தார் என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்குச் சிமியோன் என்று பேரிட்டாள்.

33. And she conceaued agayne, and bare a sonne, and sayde: The LORDE hath herde that I am despysed, and hath geue me this also, and she called him Symeon.

34. பின்னும் அவள் கர்ப்பவதியாகி ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்று: என் புருஷனுக்கு மூன்று குமாரரைப் பெற்றபடியால் அவர் இப்பொழுது என்னோடே சேர்ந்திருப்பார் என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்கு லேவி என்று பேரிட்டாள்.

34. She coceaued yet agayne, and bare a sonne, and sayde: Now wyll my husbande kepe me company agayne, for I haue borne him thre sonnes, therfore called she his name Leui.

35. மறுபடியும் அவள் கர்ப்பவதியாகி ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்று: இப்பொழுது கர்த்தரைத் துதிப்பேன் என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்கு யூதா என்று பேரிட்டாள்; பிற்பாடு அவளுக்குப் பிள்ளைப்பேறு நின்று போயிற்று.

35. She conceaued ye fourth tyme, and bare a sonne, and sayde: Now wyll I geue thankes vnto the LORDE, therfore called she him Iuda, and left bearynge.
