1. ஈசாக்கு யாக்கோபை அழைத்து, அவனை ஆசீர்வதித்து, நீ கானானியருடைய குமாரத்திகளில் பெண்கொள்ளாமல்,

1. So Isaac called for Jacob and blessed him. He commanded him, 'Don't get married to a woman from Canaan.

2. எழுந்து புறப்பட்டு, பதான் அராமிலிருக்கிற உன் தாயினுடைய தகப்பனாகிய பெத்துவேலுடைய வீட்டுக்குப் போய், அவ்விடத்தில் உன் தாயின் சகோதரனாகிய லாபானின் குமாரத்திகளுக்குள் பெண்கொள் என்று அவனுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டான்.

2. Go at once to Paddan Aram. Go to the house of your mother's father Bethuel. Find a wife for yourself there. Take her from among the daughters of your mother's brother Laban.

3. சர்வவல்லமையுள்ள தேவன் உன்னை ஆசீர்வதித்து, நீ பல ஜனக்கூட்டமாகும்படி உன்னைப் பலுகவும் பெருகவும்பண்ணி;

3. 'May the Mighty God bless you. May he give you children. May he increase your numbers until you become a community of nations.

4. தேவன் ஆபிரகாமுக்குக் கொடுத்ததும் நீ பரதேசியாய்த் தங்குகிறதுமான தேசத்தை நீ சுதந்தரித்துக்கொள்ளும்படி ஆபிரகாமுக்கு அருளிய ஆசீர்வாதத்தை உனக்கும் உன் சந்ததிக்கும் அருளுவாராக என்று சொல்லி;

4. May he give you and your children after you the blessing he gave to Abraham. Then you can take over the land where you now live as an outsider. It's the land God gave to Abraham.'

5. ஈசாக்கு யாக்கோபை அனுப்பிவிட்டான். அப்பொழுது அவன் பதான் அராமிலிருக்கும் சீரியா தேசத்தானாகிய பெத்துவேலுடைய குமாரனும், தனக்கும் ஏசாவுக்கும் தாயாகிய ரெபெக்காளின் சகோதரனுமான லாபானிடத்துக்குப் போகப் புறப்பட்டான்.

5. Isaac sent Jacob on his way. Jacob went to Paddan Aram. He went to Laban, the son of Bethuel the Aramean. Laban was the brother of Rebekah. And Rebekah was the mother of Jacob and Esau.

6. ஈசாக்கு யாக்கோபை ஆசீர்வதித்து, ஒரு பெண்ணைக் கொள்ளும்படி அவனைப் பதான் அராமுக்கு அனுப்பினதையும், அவனை ஆசீர்வதிக்கையில்: நீ கானானியருடைய குமாரத்திகளில் பெண்கொள்ளவேண்டாம் என்று அவனுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டதையும்,

6. Esau found out that Isaac had blessed Jacob and had sent him to Paddan Aram. Isaac wanted him to get a wife from there. Esau heard that when Isaac blessed Jacob, he commanded him, 'Don't get married to a woman from Canaan.'

7. யாக்கோபு தன் தகப்பனுக்கும் தன் தாய்க்கும் கீழ்ப்படிந்து, பதான் அராமுக்குப் புறப்பட்டுப்போனதையும் ஏசா கண்டதினாலும்,

7. Esau also learned that Jacob had obeyed his father and mother and had gone to Paddan Aram.

8. கானானியருடைய குமாரத்திகள் தன் தகப்பனாகிய ஈசாக்கின் பார்வைக்கு ஆகாதவர்கள் என்பதை ஏசா அறிந்ததினாலும்,

8. Then Esau realized how much his father Isaac disliked the women of Canaan.

9. ஏசா இஸ்மவேலிடத்துக்குப் போய், தனக்கு முன்னிருந்த மனைவிகளுமன்றி, ஆபிரகாமுடைய குமாரனாகிய இஸ்மவேலின் குமாரத்தியும் நெபாயோத்தின் சகோதரியுமாகிய மகலாத்தையும் விவாகம் பண்ணினான்.

9. So he went to Ishmael and married Mahalath. She was the sister of Nebaioth and the daughter of Abraham's son Ishmael. Esau added her to the wives he already had.

10. யாக்கோபு பெயெர்செபாவை விட்டுப் புறப்பட்டு ஆரானுக்குப் போகப் பிரயாணம்பண்ணி,

10. Jacob left Beersheba and started out for Haran.

11. ஒரு இடத்திலே வந்து, சூரியன் அஸ்தமித்தபடியினால், அங்கே ராத்தங்கி, அவ்விடத்துக் கற்களில் ஒன்றை எடுத்து, தன் தலையின்கீழ் வைத்து, அங்கே நித்திரை செய்யும்படி படுத்துக்கொண்டான்.

11. He reached a certain place and stopped for the night. The sun had already set. He took one of the stones there and placed it under his head. Then he lay down to sleep.

12. அங்கே அவன் ஒரு சொப்பனங்கண்டான்; இதோ, ஒரு ஏணி பூமியிலே வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது, அதின் நுனி வானத்தை எட்டியிருந்தது, அதிலே தேவதூதர் ஏறுகிறவர்களும் இறங்குகிறவர்களுமாய் இருந்தார்கள்.

12. In a dream he saw a stairway standing on the earth. Its top reached to heaven. The angels of God were going up and coming down on it.

13. அதற்கு மேலாகக் கர்த்தர் நின்று: நான் உன் தகப்பனாகிய ஆபிரகாமின் தேவனும் ஈசாக்கின் தேவனுமாகிய கர்த்தர்; நீ படுத்திருக்கிற பூமியை உனக்கும் உன் சந்ததிக்கும் தருவேன்.

13. The Lord stood above the stairway. He said, 'I am the Lord. I am the God of your grandfather Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your children after you the land on which you are lying.

14. உன் சந்ததி பூமியின் தூளைப்போலிருக்கும்; நீ மேற்கேயும், கிழக்கேயும், வடக்கேயும், தெற்கேயும் பரம்புவாய்; உனக்குள்ளும் உன் சந்ததிக்குள்ளும் பூமியின் வம்சங்களெல்லாம் ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்படும்.

14. They will be like the dust of the earth that can't be counted. They will spread out to the west and to the east. They will spread out to the north and to the south. All nations on earth will be blessed because of you and your children after you.

15. நான் உன்னோடே இருந்து, நீ போகிற இடத்திலெல்லாம் உன்னைக் காத்து, இந்தத் தேசத்துக்கு உன்னைத்திரும்பி வரப்பண்ணுவேன்; நான் உனக்குச் சொன்னதைச் செய்யுமளவும் உன்னைக் கைவிடுவதில்லை என்றார்.

15. 'I am with you. I will watch over you everywhere you go. And I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.'

16. யாக்கோபு நித்திரை தெளிந்து விழித்தபோது: மெய்யாகவே கர்த்தர் இந்த ஸ்தலத்தில் இருக்கிறார்; இதை நான் அறியாதிருந்தேன் என்றான்.

16. Jacob woke up from his sleep. Then he thought, 'The Lord is certainly in this place. And I didn't even know it.'

17. அவன் பயந்து, இந்த ஸ்தலம் எவ்வளவு பயங்கரமாயிருக்கிறது! இது தேவனுடைய வீடேயல்லாமல் வேறல்ல, இது வானத்தின் வாசல் என்றான்.

17. Jacob was afraid. He said, 'How holy this place is! This must be the house of God. This is the gate of heaven.'

18. அதிகாலையிலே யாக்கோபு எழுந்து, தன் தலையின்கீழ் வைத்திருந்த கல்லை எடுத்து, அதைத் தூணாக நிறுத்தி, அதின்மேல் எண்ணெய் வார்த்து,

18. Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head. He set it up as a pillar. And he poured oil on top of it.

19. அந்த ஸ்தலத்திற்குப் பெத்தேல் என்று பேரிட்டான்; அதற்கு முன்னே அவ்வூருக்கு லூஸ் என்னும் பேர் இருந்தது.

19. He named that place Bethel. But the city used to be called Luz.

20. அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபு: தேவன் என்னோடே இருந்து, நான் போகிற இந்த வழியிலே என்னைக் காப்பாற்றி, உண்ண ஆகாரமும், உடுக்க வஸ்திரமும் எனக்குத் தந்து,

20. Then Jacob made a promise. He said, 'May God be with me. May he watch over me on this journey I'm taking. May he give me food to eat and clothes to wear.

21. என்னை என் தகப்பன் வீட்டுக்குச் சமாதானத்தோடே திரும்பிவரப்பண்ணுவாரானால், கர்த்தர் எனக்குத் தேவனாயிருப்பார்;

21. May he do as he has promised so that I can return safely to my father's home. Then you, Lord, will be my God.

22. நான் தூணாக நிறுத்தின இந்தக் கல் தேவனுக்கு வீடாகும்; தேவரீர் எனக்குத் தரும் எல்லாவற்றிலும் உமக்குத் தசமபாகம் செலுத்துவேன் என்று சொல்லிப் பொருத்தனைபண்ணிக்கொண்டான்.

22. This stone I've set up as a pillar will be God's house. And I'll give you a tenth of everything you give me.'
