1. In the course of time, after Yitz'chak had grown old and his eyes dim, so that he couldn't see, he called 'Esav his older son and said to him, 'My son?' and he answered, 'Here I am.'

2. 'Look, I'm old now, I don't know when I will die.

3. Therefore, please take your hunting gear- your quiver of arrows and your bow; go out in the country, and get me some game.

4. அதை எனக்குப் பிரியமாயிருக்கிற ருசியுள்ள பதார்த்தங்களாகச் சமைத்து, நான் புசிக்கவும், நான் மரணமடையுமுன்னே என் ஆத்துமா உன்னை ஆசீர்வதிக்கவும், என்னிடத்தில் கொண்டுவா என்றான்.

4. Make it tasty, the way I like it; and bring it to me to eat. Then I will bless you [[as firstborn]], before I die.'

5. ஈசாக்கு தன் குமாரனாகிய ஏசாவோடே பேசுகையில், ரெபெக்காள் கேட்டுக்கொண்டிருந்தாள். ஏசா வேட்டையாடிக்கொண்டுவரும்படி வனத்துக்குப் போனான்.

5. Rivkah was listening when Yitz'chak spoke to his son 'Esav. So when 'Esav went out to the country to hunt for game and bring it back,

6. அப்பொழுது ரெபெக்காள் தன் குமாரனாகிய யாக்கோபை நோக்கி: உன் தகப்பன் உன் சகோதரனாகிய ஏசாவை அழைத்து:

6. she said to her son Ya'akov, 'Listen! I heard your father telling 'Esav your brother,

7. நான் புசித்து, எனக்கு மரணம் வருமுன்னே, கர்த்தரை முன்னிட்டு உன்னை ஆசீர்வதிக்கும்படி, நீ எனக்காக வேட்டையாடி, அதை எனக்கு ருசியுள்ள பதார்த்தங்களாகச் சமைத்துக்கொண்டுவா என்று சொல்லக்கேட்டேன்.

7. 'Bring me game, and make it tasty, so I can eat it. Then I will give you my blessing in the presence of ADONAI, before my death.'

8. ஆகையால், என் மகனே, என் சொல்லைக் கேட்டு, நான் உனக்குக் கற்பிக்கிறபடி செய்.

8. Now pay attention to me, my son; and do what I tell you.

9. நீ ஆட்டுமந்தைக்குப் போய், இரண்டு நல்ல வெள்ளாட்டுக்குட்டிகளைக் கொண்டுவா; நான் அவைகளை உன் தகப்பனுக்குப் பிரியமானபடி ருசியுள்ள பதார்த்தங்களாகச் சமைப்பேன்.

9. Go to the flock, and bring me back two choice kids. I will make it tasty for your father, the way he likes it;

10. உன் தகப்பன் தாம் மரணமடையுமுன்னே உன்னை ஆசீர்வதிக்குபடி அவர் புசிப்பதற்கு நீ அதை அவரிடத்தில் கொண்டுபோகவேண்டும் என்றாள்.

10. and you will bring it to your father to eat; so that he will give his blessing to you before his death.'

11. அதற்கு யாக்கோபு தன் தாயாகிய ரெபெக்காளை நோக்கி: என் சகோதரனாகிய ஏசா ரோமம் மிகுந்தவன், நான் ரோமமில்லாதவன்.

11. Ya'akov answered Rivkah his mother, 'Look, 'Esav is hairy, but I have smooth skin.

12. ஒருவேளை என் தகப்பன் என்னைத்தடவிப்பார்ப்பார்; அப்பொழுது நான் அவருக்கு எத்தனாய்க் காணப்பட்டு, என்மேல் ஆசீர்வாதத்தை அல்ல, சாபத்தை வரப்பண்ணிக்கொள்வேனே என்றான்.

12. Suppose my father touches me- he'll know I'm trying to trick him, and I'll bring a curse on myself, not a blessing!'

13. அதற்கு அவன் தாய்: என் மகனே, உன்மேல் வரும் சாபம் என்மேல் வரட்டும்; என் சொல்லைமாத்திரம் கேட்டு, நீ போய், அவைகளை என்னிடத்தில் கொண்டுவா என்றாள்.

13. But his mother said, 'Let your curse be on me. Just listen to me, and go get me the kids!'

14. அவன் போய் அவைகளைப் பிடித்து, தன் தாயினிடத்தில் கொண்டுவந்தான்; அவனுடைய தாய் அவன் தகப்பனுக்குப்பிரியமானபடி ருசியுள்ள பதார்த்தங்களைச் சமைத்தாள்.

14. So he went, got them and brought them to his mother; and his mother prepared them in the tasty way his father loved.

15. பின்பு, ரெபெக்காள் வீட்டிலே தன்னிடத்தில் இருந்த தன் மூத்த மகனாகிய ஏசாவின் நல்ல வஸ்திரங்களை எடுத்து, தன் இளைய மகனாகிய யாக்கோபுக்கு உடுத்தி,

15. Next, Rivkah took 'Esav her older son's best clothes, which she had with her in the house, and put them on Ya'akov her younger son;

16. வெள்ளாட்டுக்குட்டிகளின் தோலை அவன் கைகளிலேயும் ரோமமில்லாத அவன் கழுத்திலேயும் போட்டு;

16. and she put the skins of the goats on his hands and on the smooth parts of his neck.

17. தான் சமைத்த ருசியுள்ள பதார்த்தங்களையும் அப்பங்களையும் தன் குமாரனாகிய யாக்கோபின் கையிலே கொடுத்தாள்.

17. Then she gave the tasty food and the bread she had prepared to her son Ya'akov.

18. அவன் தன் தகப்பனிடத்தில் வந்து, என் தகப்பனே என்றான்; அதற்கு அவன்: இதோ, இருக்கிறேன்; நீ யார், என் மகனே என்றான்.

18. He went to his father and said, 'My father?' He replied, 'Here I am; who are you, my son?'

19. அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபு தன் தகப்பனை நோக்கி: நான் உமது மூத்த மகனாகிய ஏசா; நீர் எனக்குச் சொன்னபடியே செய்தேன்; உம்முடைய ஆத்துமா என்னை ஆசீர்வதிக்கும்படி, நீர் எழுந்து உட்கார்ந்து, நான் வேட்டையாடிக்கொண்டு வந்ததைப் புசியும் என்றான்.

19. Ya'akov said to his father, 'I am 'Esav your firstborn. I've done what you asked me to do. Get up now, sit down, eat the game, and then give me your blessing.'

20. அப்பொழுது ஈசாக்குத் தன் குமாரனை நோக்கி: என் மகனே, இது உனக்கு இத்தனை சீக்கிரமாய் எப்படி அகப்பட்டது என்றான். அவன்: உம்முடைய தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் எனக்கு நேரிடப்பண்ணினார் என்றான்.

20. Yitz'chak said to his son, 'How did you find it so quickly, my son?' He answered, 'ADONAI your God made it happen that way.'

21. அப்பொழுது ஈசாக்கு யாக்கோபை நோக்கி: என் மகனே, நீ என் குமாரனாகிய ஏசாதானோ அல்லவோ என்று நான் உன்னைத் தடவிப்பார்க்கும்படி கிட்ட வா என்றான்.

21. Yitz'chak said to Ya'akov, 'Come here, close to me, so I can touch you, my son, and know whether you are in fact my son 'Esav or not.'

22. யாக்கோபு தன் தகப்பனாகிய ஈசாக்கண்டையில் கிட்டப் போனான்; அவன் இவனைத் தடவிப்பார்த்து: சத்தம் யாக்கோபின் சத்தம், கைகளோ ஏசாவின் கைகள் என்று சொல்லி,

22. Ya'akov approached Yitz'chak his father, who touched him and said, 'The voice is Ya'akov's voice, but the hands are 'Esav's hands.'

23. அவனுடைய கைகள் அவன் சகோதரனாகிய ஏசாவின் கைகளைப்போல ரோமமுள்ளவைகளாயிருந்தபடியினாலே, இன்னான் என்று அறியாமல், அவனை ஆசீர்வதித்து,

23. However, he didn't detect him; because his hands were hairy like his brother 'Esav's hands; so he gave him his blessing.

24. நீ என் குமாரனாகிய ஏசாதானோ என்றான்; அவன்: நான்தான் என்றான்.

24. He asked, 'Are you really my son 'Esav?' And he replied, 'I am.'

25. அப்பொழுது அவன்: என் குமாரனே, நீ வேட்டையாடிக் கொண்டுவந்ததை நான் புசித்து, என் ஆத்துமா உன்னை ஆசீர்வதிக்கும்படி அதை என்கிட்டக் கொண்டுவா என்றான்; அவன் அதைக் கிட்டக் கொண்டுபோனான்; அப்பொழுது அவன் புசித்தான்; பிற்பாடு, திராட்சரசம் அவனுக்குக் கொண்டுவந்து கொடுத்தான், அவன் குடித்தான்.

25. He said, 'Bring it here to me, and I will eat my son's game, so that I can give you my blessing.' So he brought it up to him, and he ate; he also brought him wine, and he drank.

26. அப்பொழுது அவன் தகப்பானாகிய ஈசாக்கு அவனை நோக்கி: என் மகனே, நீ கிட்ட வந்து என்னை முத்தஞ்செய் என்றான்.

26. Then his father Yitz'chak said to him, 'Come close now, and kiss me, my son.'

27. அவன் கிட்டப் போய், அவனை முத்தஞ்செய்தான்; அப்பொழுது அவனுடைய வஸ்திரங்களின் வாசனையை மோந்து: இதோ, என் குமாரனுடைய வாசனை கர்த்தர் ஆசீர்வதித்த வயல்வெளியின் வாசனையைப்போல் இருக்கிறது.

27. He approached and kissed him. Yitz'chak smelled his clothes and blessed Ya'akov with these words: 'See, my son smells like a field which ADONAI has blessed.

28. தேவன் உனக்கு வானத்துப் பனியையும் பூமியின் கொழுமையையும் கொடுத்து, மிகுந்த தானியத்தையும் திராட்சரசத்தையும் தந்தருளுவாராக.

28. So may God give you dew from heaven, the richness of the earth, and grain and wine in abundance.

29. ஜனங்கள் உன்னைச் சேவிக்கவும் ஜாதிகள் உன்னை வணங்கவும்கடவர்கள்; உன் சகோதரருக்கு எஜமானாயிருப்பாய்; உன் தாயின் பிள்ளைகள் உன்னை வணங்குவார்கள்; உன்னைச் சபிக்கிறவர்கள் சபிக்கப்பட்டவர்களும், உன்னை ஆசீர்வதிக்கிறவர்கள் ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்பட்டவர்களுமாய் இருப்பார்கள் என்று சொல்லி அவனை ஆசீர்வதித்தான்.

29. May peoples serve you and nations bow down to you. May you be lord over your kinsmen, let your mother's descendants bow down to you. Cursed be everyone who curses you, and blessed be everyone who blesses you!'

30. ஈசாக்கு யாக்கோபை ஆசீர்வதித்து முடிந்தபோது, யாக்கோபு தன் தகப்பனாகிய ஈசாக்கின் சமுகத்தைவிட்டுப் புறப்பட்டவுடனே, அவன் சகோதரனாகிய ஏசா வேட்டையாடி வந்து சேர்ந்தான்.

30. But as soon as Yitz'chak had finished giving his blessing to Ya'akov, when Ya'akov had barely left his father's presence, 'Esav his brother came in from his hunting.

31. அவனும் ருசியுள்ள பதார்த்தங்களைச் சமைத்து, தன் தகப்பனண்டைக்குக் கொண்டுவந்து, தகப்பனை நோக்கி: உம்முடைய ஆத்துமா என்னை ஆசீர்வதிக்கும்படி, என் தகப்பனார் எழுந்திருந்து, உம்முடைய குமாரனாகிய நான் வேட்டையாடிக் கொண்டுவந்ததைப் புசிப்பாராக என்றான்.

31. He too had prepared a tasty meal and brought it to his father, and now he said to his father, 'Let my father get up and eat from his son's game, so that you may give me your blessing.'

32. அப்பொழுது அவன் தகப்பனாகிய ஈசாக்கு: நீ யார் என்றான்; அதற்கு அவன்: நான் உமது மூத்த மகனாகிய ஏசா என்றான்.

32. Yitz'chak his father said to him, 'Who are you?' and he answered, 'I am your son, your firstborn, 'Esav.'

33. அப்பொழுது ஈசாக்கு மிகவும் பிரமித்து நடுங்கி: வேட்டையாடி எனக்குக் கொண்டுவந்தானே, அவன் யார்? நீ வருமுன்னே அவையெல்லாவற்றிலும் நான் புசித்து அவனை ஆசீர்வதித்தேனே, அவன் ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்பட்டவனாகவும் இருப்பான் என்றான்.

33. Yitz'chak began trembling uncontrollably and said, 'Then who was it that took game and brought it to me? I ate it all just before you came, and I gave my blessing to him. That's the truth, and the blessing must stand.'

34. ஏசா தன் தகப்பனுடைய வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்டவுடனே, மிகவும் மனங்கசந்து உரத்த சத்தமிட்டு அலறி, தன் தகப்பனை நோக்கி: என் தகப்பனே, என்னையும் ஆசீர்வதியும் என்றான்.

34. When 'Esav heard his father's words he burst into loud, bitter sobbing. 'Father, bless me too,' he begged.

35. அதற்கு அவன்: உன் சகோதரன் தந்திரமாய் வந்து, உன்னுடைய ஆசீர்வாதத்தைப் பெற்றுக்கொண்டான் என்றான்.

35. He replied, 'Your brother came deceitfully and took away your blessing.'

36. அப்பொழுது அவன்: அவன் பெயர் யாக்கோபு என்னப்படுவது சரியல்லவா? இதோடே இரண்டுதரம் என்னை மோசம் போக்கினான்; என் சேஷ்ட புத்திரபாகத்தை எடுத்துக்கொண்டான்; இதோ, இப்பொழுது என் ஆசீர்வாதத்தையும் வாங்கிக்கொண்டான் என்று சொல்லி, நீர் எனக்கு ஒரு ஆசீர்வாதத்தையாகிலும் வைத்துவைக்கவில்லையா என்றான்.

36. Esav said, 'His name, Ya'akov [[he supplants]], really suits him- because he has supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright, and here, now he has taken away my blessing!' Then he asked, 'Haven't you saved a blessing for me?'

37. ஈசாக்கு ஏசாவுக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: இதோ, நான் அவனை உனக்கு எஜமானாக வைத்தேன்; அவன் சகோதரர் எல்லாரையும் அவனுக்கு ஊழியக்காரராகக் கொடுத்து, அவனைத் தானியத்தினாலும் திராட்சரசத்தினாலும் ஆதரித்தேன்; இப்பொழுதும் என் மகனே, நான் உனக்கு என்னசெய்வேன் என்றான்.

37. Yitz'chak answered 'Esav, 'Look, I have made him your lord, I have given him all his kinsmen as servants, and I have given him grain and wine to sustain him. What else is there that I can do for you, my son?'

38. ஏசா தன் தகப்பனை நோக்கி: என் தகப்பனே, இந்த ஒரே ஆசீர்வாதம் மாத்திரமா உம்மிடத்தில் உண்டு? என் தகப்பனே, என்னையும் ஆசீர்வதியும் என்று சொல்லி, ஏசா சத்தமிட்டு அழுதான்.

38. 'Esav said to his father, 'Have you only one blessing, my father? Father, bless me too!' 'Esav wept aloud,

39. அப்பொழுது அவன் தகப்பனாகிய ஈசாக்கு அவனுக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: உன் வாசஸ்தலம் பூமியின் சாரத்தோடும் உயர வானத்திலிருந்து இறங்கும் பனியோடும் இருக்கும்.

39. and Yitz'chak his father answered him: 'Here! Your home will be of the richness of the earth and of the dew of heaven from above.

40. உன் பட்டயத்தினாலே நீ பிழைத்து, உன் சகோதரனைச் சேவிப்பாய்; நீ மேற்கொள்ளும் காலம் வரும்போதோ, உன் கழுத்தில் இருக்கிற அவனுடைய நுகத்தடியை முறித்துப்போடுவாய் என்றான்.

40. You will live by your sword, and you will serve your brother. But when you break loose, you will shake his yoke off your neck.'

41. யாக்கோபைத் தன் தகப்பன் ஆசீர்வதித்ததினிமித்தம் ஏசா யாக்கோபைப் பகைத்து: என் தகப்பனுக்காகத் துக்கிக்கும் நாட்கள் சீக்கிரமாய் வரும், அப்பொழுது என் சகோதரனாகிய யாக்கோபைக் கொன்றுபோடுவேன் என்று ஏசா தன் இருதயத்திலே சொல்லிக்கொண்டான்.

41. Esav hated his brother because of the blessing his father had given him. 'Esav said to himself, 'The time for mourning my father will soon come, and then I will kill my brother Ya'akov.'

42. மூத்த மகனாகிய ஏசாவின் வார்த்தைகள் ரெபெக்காளுக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது; அப்பொழுது அவள் தன் இளைய மகனாகிய யாக்கோபை அழைத்து: உன் சகோதரனாகிய ஏசா உன்னைக் கொன்றுபோட நினைத்து, தன்னைத் தேற்றிக்கொள்ளுகிறான்.

42. But the words of 'Esav her older son were told to Rivkah. She sent for Ya'akov her younger son and said to him, 'Here, your brother 'Esav is comforting himself over you by planning to kill you.

43. ஆகையால், என் மகனே, நான் சொல்வதைக் கேட்டு, எழுந்து புறப்பட்டு, ஆரானில் இருக்கிற என் சகோதரனாகிய லாபானிடத்துக்கு ஓடிப்போய்,

43. Therefore, my son, listen to me: get up and escape to Lavan my brother in Haran.

44. உன் சகோதரன் உன்மேல் வைத்த கோபம் தணியுமட்டும் சிலநாள் அவனிடத்திலே இரு.

44. Stay with him a little while, until your brother's anger subsides.

45. உன் சகோதரன் உன்மேல் வைத்த கோபம் தணிந்து, நீ அவனுக்குச் செய்ததை அவன் மறந்தபின், நான் ஆள் அனுப்பி, அவ்விடத்திலிருந்து உன்னை அழைப்பிப்பேன்; நான் ஒரே நாளில் உங்கள் இருவரையும் ஏன் இழந்துபோகவேண்டும் என்றாள்.

45. Your brother's anger will turn away from you, and he will forget what you did to him. Then I'll send and bring you back from there. Why should I lose both of you on the same day?'

46. பின்பு, ரெபெக்காள் ஈசாக்கை நோக்கி: ஏத்தின் குமாரத்திகளினிமித்தம் என் உயிர் எனக்கு வெறுப்பாயிருக்கிறது; இந்தத் தேசத்துப் பெண்களாகிய ஏத்தின் குமாரத்திகளில் யாக்கோபு ஒரு பெண்ணைக் கொள்வானானால் என் உயிர் இருந்து ஆவதென்ன என்றாள்.

46. Rivkah said to Yitz'chak, 'I'm sick to death of Hitti women! If Ya'akov marries one of the Hitti women, like those who live here, my life won't be worth living.'
