1. அப்படியே கீரியாத்யாரீமின் மனுஷர் வந்து, கர்த்தருடைய பெட்டியை எடுத்து, மேட்டின் மேலிருக்கிற அபினதாபின் வீட்டிலே கொண்டுவந்து வைத்து, கர்த்தருடைய பெட்டியைக் காக்கும்படிக்கு, அவன் குமாரனாகிய எலெயாசாரைப் பரிசுத்தப்படுத்தினார்கள்.

1. So the men of Kiriath-jearim came for the ark of the LORD and took it to Abinadab's house on the hill. They consecrated his son Eleazar to take care of it.

2. பெட்டி கீரியாத்யாரீமிலே அநேகநாள் தங்கியிருந்தது; இருபது வருஷம் அங்கேயே இருந்தது; இஸ்ரவேல் குடும்பத்தாரெல்லாரும் கர்த்தரை நினைத்து, புலம்பிக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

2. Time went by until 20 years had passed since the ark had been taken to Kiriath-jearim. Then the whole house of Israel began to seek the LORD.

3. அப்பொழுது சாமுவேல் இஸ்ரவேல் குடும்பத்தார் யாவரையும் நோக்கி: நீங்கள் உங்கள் முழு இருதயத்தோடும் கர்த்தரிடத்தில் திரும்புகிறவர்களானால், அந்நிய தேவர்களையும் அஸ்தரோத்தையும் உங்கள் நடுவிலிருந்து விலக்கி, உங்கள் இருதயத்தைக் கர்த்தருக்கு நேராக்கி, அவர் ஒருவருக்கே ஆராதனை செய்யுங்கள்; அப்பொழுது அவர் உங்களைப் பெலிஸ்தருடைய கைக்கு நீங்கலாக்கிவிடுவார் என்றான்.

3. Samuel told them, 'If you are returning to the LORD with all your heart, get rid of the foreign gods and the Ashtoreths that are among you, dedicate yourselves to the LORD, and worship only Him. Then He will rescue you from the hand of the Philistines.'

4. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் பாகால்களையும் அஸ்தரோத்தையும் விலக்கிவிட்டு, கர்த்தர் ஒருவருக்கே ஆராதனை செய்தார்கள்.

4. So the Israelites removed the Baals and the Ashtoreths and only worshiped the LORD.

5. பின்பு சாமுவேல்: நான் உங்களுக்காகக் கர்த்தரை மன்றாடும்படிக்கு, இஸ்ரவேலர் எல்லாரையும் மிஸ்பாவிலே கூட்டுங்கள் என்றான்.

5. Samuel said, 'Gather all Israel at Mizpah, and I will pray to the LORD on your behalf.'

6. அவர்கள் அப்படியே மிஸ்பாவிலே கூடிவந்து தண்ணீர் மொண்டு, கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் ஊற்றி, அன்றையதினம் உபவாசம்பண்ணி, கர்த்தருக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் பாவஞ்செய்தோம் என்று அங்கே சொன்னார்கள்; மிஸ்பாவிலே சாமுவேல் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரை நியாயம் விசாரித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தான்.

6. When they gathered at Mizpah, they drew water and poured it out in the LORD's presence. They fasted that day, and there they confessed, 'We have sinned against the LORD.' And Samuel [began to lead] the Israelites at Mizpah as [their] judge.

7. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் மிஸ்பாவிலே கூடிவந்ததைப் பெலிஸ்தர் கேள்விப்பட்டபோது, பெலிஸ்தரின் அதிபதிகள் இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு விரோதமாக எதிர்த்து வந்தார்கள்; அதை இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் கேட்டு, பெலிஸ்தரினிமித்தம் பயப்பட்டு,

7. When the Philistines heard that the Israelites had gathered at Mizpah, their rulers marched up toward Israel. When the Israelites heard [about it], they were afraid because of the Philistines.

8. சாமுவேலை நோக்கி: நம்முடைய தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் எங்களைப் பெலிஸ்தரின் கைக்கு நீங்கலாக்கி ரட்சிக்கும்படிக்கு, எங்களுக்காக அவரை நோக்கி ஓயாமல் வேண்டிக்கொள்ளும் என்றார்கள்.

8. The Israelites said to Samuel, 'Don't stop crying out to the LORD our God for us, so that He will save us from the hand of the Philistines.'

9. அப்பொழுது சாமுவேல் பால்குடிக்கிற ஒரு ஆட்டுக்குட்டியைப் பிடித்து, அதைக் கர்த்தருக்குச் சர்வாங்க தகனபலியாகச் செலுத்தி, இஸ்ரவேலுக்காகக் கர்த்தரை நோக்கி வேண்டிக்கொண்டான்; கர்த்தர் அவனுக்கு மறுமொழி அருளிச்செய்தார்.

9. Then Samuel took a young lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the LORD. He cried out to the LORD on behalf of Israel, and the LORD answered him.

10. சாமுவேல் சர்வாங்க தகனபலியைச் செலுத்துகையில், பெலிஸ்தர் இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் யுத்தம்பண்ண நெருங்கினார்கள்; கர்த்தர் மகா பெரிய இடிமுழக்கங்களைப் பெலிஸ்தர்மேல் அந்நாளிலே முழங்கப்பண்ணி, அவர்களைக் கலங்கடித்ததினால், அவர்கள் இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு முன்பாகப் பட்டு விழுந்தார்கள்.

10. Samuel was offering the burnt offering as the Philistines drew near to fight against Israel. The LORD thundered loudly against the Philistines that day and threw them into such confusion that they fled before Israel.

11. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலர் மிஸ்பாவிலிருந்து பெலிஸ்தரைப் பின்தொடர்ந்துபோய், பெத்காரீம் பள்ளத்தாக்குமட்டும் அவர்களை முறிய அடித்தார்கள்.

11. Then the men of Israel charged out of Mizpah and pursued the Philistines striking them down all the way to a place below Beth-car.

12. அப்பொழுது சாமுவேல் ஒரு கல்லை எடுத்து, மிஸ்பாவுக்கும் சேணுக்கும் நடுவாக நிறுத்தி, இம்மட்டும் கர்த்தர் எங்களுக்கு உதவிசெய்தார் என்று சொல்லி, அதற்கு எபெனேசர் என்று பேரிட்டான்.

12. Afterwards, Samuel took a stone and set it upright between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, explaining, 'The LORD has helped us to this point.'

13. இந்தப்பிரகாரம் பெலிஸ்தர் அப்புறம் இஸ்ரவேலின் எல்லையிலே வராதபடிக்குத் தாழ்த்தப்பட்டார்கள்; சாமுவேலின் நாளெல்லாம் கர்த்தருடைய கை பெலிஸ்தருக்கு விரோதமாய் இருந்தது.

13. So the Philistines were subdued and did not invade Israel's territory again. The LORD's hand was against the Philistines all of Samuel's life.

14. பெலிஸ்தர் இஸ்ரவேல் கையிலிருந்து பிடித்திருந்த எக்ரோன் துவக்கிக் காத்மட்டுமுள்ள பட்டணங்களும் இஸ்ரவேலுக்குத் திரும்பக் கிடைத்தது; அவைகளையும் அவைகளின் எல்லைகளையும் இஸ்ரவேலர் பெலிஸ்தர் கையில் இராதபடிக்கு, விடுவித்துக்கொண்டார்கள்; இஸ்ரவேலுக்கும் எமோரியருக்கும் சமாதானம் உண்டாயிருந்தது.

14. The cities from Ekron to Gath, which they had taken from Israel, were restored; Israel even rescued their surrounding territories from Philistine control. There was also peace between Israel and the Amorites.

15. சாமுவேல் உயிரோடிருந்த நாளெல்லாம் இஸ்ரவேலை நியாயம் விசாரித்தான்.

15. Samuel judged Israel throughout his life.

16. அவன் வருஷாவருஷம் புறப்பட்டு, பெத்தேலையும் கில்காலையும் மிஸ்பாவையும் சுற்றிப்போய், அவ்விடங்களிலெல்லாம் இஸ்ரவேலை நியாயம் விசாரித்தபின்பு,

16. Every year he would go on a circuit to Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpah and would judge Israel at all these locations.

17. அவன் ராமாவுக்குத் திரும்பிவருவான், அவனுடைய வீடு அங்கே இருந்தது; அங்கே இஸ்ரவேலை நியாயம் விசாரித்து, அவ்விடத்தில் கர்த்தருக்கு ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக் கட்டினான்.

17. Then he would return to Ramah because his home was there, he judged Israel there, and he had built an altar to the LORD there.
