1. அப்பொழுது எப்பிராயீம் மனுஷர் அவனை நோக்கி: நீ மீதியானியர்மேல் யுத்தம் பண்ணப்போகிறபோது, எங்களை அழைப்பிக்கவில்லையே, இப்படி நீ எங்களுக்குச் செய்தது என்ன என்று, அவனோடே பலத்த வாக்குவாதம்பண்ணினார்.

1. And the men of Ephraim said to him, What is this thing you have done to us, not to call us when you went out to fight against Midian? And they contended with him sharply.

2. அதற்கு அவன்: நீங்கள் செய்ததற்கு நான் செய்தது எம்மாத்திரம்? அபியேஸ்ரியரின் திராட்சப்பழத்தின் முழு அறுப்பைப்பார்க்கிலும், எப்பிராயீமரின் மீதியான அறுப்பு அதிகம் அல்லவா?

2. And he said to them, What have I done now in comparison to you? Are not the gleanings of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?

3. தேவன் உங்கள் கையிலே மீதியானியரின் அதிபதிகளாகிய ஓரேபையும் சேபையும் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தாரே; நீங்கள் செய்ததிலும் நான் செய்யக்கூடியது எம்மாத்திரம் என்றான்; இந்த வார்த்தையை அவன் சொன்னபோது, அவன் மேலிருந்த அவர்களுடைய கோபம் ஆறிற்று.

3. God has given the rulers of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb, into your hand. And what was I able to do like you? Then their spirit was abated toward him when he said this word.

4. And Gideon came to the Jordan, he crossing over, and three hundred who were with him, being weary, yet pursuing.

5. And he said to the men of Succoth, Please give loaves of bread to the people at my feet, for they are weary; and I am chasing Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian.

6. அதற்குச் சுக்கோத்தின் பிரபுக்கள்: உன் சேனைக்கு நாங்கள் அப்பம் கொடுக்கிறதற்குச் சேபா சல்முனா என்பவர்களின் கை உன் கைவசமாயிற்றோ என்றார்கள்.

6. And the rulers of Succoth said, Is the hand of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your army?

7. அப்பொழுது கிதியோன் அவர்களை நோக்கி: கர்த்தர் சேபாவையும் சல்முனாவையும் என் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுக்கும்போது, உங்கள் மாம்சத்தை வனாந்தரத்தின் முள்ளுகளாலும் நெரிஞ்சில்களாலும் கிழித்துவிடுவேன் என்று சொல்லி,

7. And Gideon said, Because of this, when Jehovah has given Zebah and Zalmunna into my hand, I shall thresh your flesh with thorns of the wilderness and with briers.

8. அவ்விடம் விட்டு, பெனூவேலுக்குப் போய், அவ்வூராரிடத்தில் அந்தப்படியே கேட்டான்; சுக்கோத்தின் மனுஷர் பிரதியுத்தரமாகச் சொன்னபடியே பெனூவேலின் மனுஷரும் அவனுக்குச் சொன்னார்கள்.

8. And he went up from there to Penuel, and spoke to them in this same way. And the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered.

9. அப்பொழுது அவன், பெனூவேலின் மனுஷரைப் பார்த்து: நான் சமாதானத்தோடே திரும்பிவரும்போது, இந்தக் கோபுரத்தை இடித்துப்போடுவேன் என்றான்.

9. And he also spoke to the men of Penuel, saying, When I come back in peace, I will break down this tower.

10. சேபாவும் சல்முனாவும் அவர்களோடேகூட அவர்களுடைய சேனைகளும் ஏறக்குறைய பதினையாயிரம்பேர் கர்கோரில் இருந்தார்கள்; பட்டயம் உருவத்தக்க லட்சத்து இருபதினாயிரம்பேர் விழுந்தபடியால், கிழக்கத்தியாரின் சகல சேனையிலும் இவர்கள் மாத்திரம் மீந்திருந்தார்கள்.

10. And Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their armies with them, about fifteen thousand, all who were left of all the army of the sons of the east. And those who fell were a hundred and twenty thousand men drawing sword.

11. கிதியோன் கூடாரங்களிலே குடியிருக்கிறவர்கள் வழியாய் நோபாகுக்கும், யொகிபெயாவுக்கும் கிழக்கே போய், அந்தச் சேனை பயமில்லை என்றிருந்தபோது, அதை முறிய அடித்தான்.

11. And Gideon went up the way of those who live in tents, on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and struck the army; for the army was at ease.

12. சேபாவும் சல்முனாவும் ஓடிப்போனார்கள்; அவனோ அவர்களைத் தொடர்ந்து, சேபா சல்முனா என்னும் மீதியானியரின் இரண்டு ராஜாக்களையும் பிடித்து, சேனை முழுவதையும் கலங்கடித்தான்.

12. And Zebah and Zalmunna fled; and he chased them and captured the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna. And he caused all the army to tremble.

13. யோவாசின் குமாரனாகிய கிதியோன் யுத்தம்பண்ணி, சூரியன் உதிக்கும் முன்னே திரும்பிவந்தபோது,

13. And Gideon the son of Joash returned from the battle, at the ascent of Mount Heres.

14. சுக்கோத்தின் மனுஷரில் ஒரு வாலிபனைப் பிடித்து, அவனிடத்தில் விசாரித்தான்; அவன் சுக்கோத்தின் பிரபுக்களும் அதின் மூப்பருமாகிய எழுபத்தேழு மனுஷரின் பேரை அவனுக்கு எழுதிக்கொடுத்தான்.

14. And he captured a young man of the men of Succoth, and questioned him; and he wrote out to him the rulers of Succoth, and its elders, seventy seven men.

15. அவன் சுக்கோத்து ஊராரிடத்தில் வந்து: இதோ, விடாய்த்திருக்கிற உன் மனுஷருக்கு நாங்கள் அப்பம் கொடுக்கிறதற்குச் சேபா சல்முனா என்பவர்களின் கை உன் கைவசமாயிற்றோ என்று நீங்கள் என்னை நிந்தித்துச் சொன்ன சேபாவும் சல்முனாவும் இங்கே இருக்கிறார்கள் என்று சொல்லி,

15. And he came in to the men of Succoth, and said, Behold, Zebah and Zalmunna, about whom you taunted me, saying, Is the hand of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand that we should give bread to your weary men?

16. பட்டணத்தின் மூப்பரைப் பிடித்து, வனாந்தரத்தின் முள்ளுகளையும் நெரிஞ்சில்களையும் கொண்டுவந்து, அவைகளால் சுக்கோத்தின் மனுஷருக்குப் புத்திவரப்பண்ணி,

16. And he took the elders of the city, and the thorns of the wilderness, and the briers, and taught the men of Succoth with them.

17. பெனூவேலின் கோபுரத்தை இடித்து, அவ்வூர் மனுஷரையும் கொன்றுபோட்டான்.

17. And he broke down the tower of Penuel, and killed the men of the city.

18. பின்பு அவன் சேபாவையும் சல்முனாவையும் நோக்கி: நீங்கள் தாபோரிலே கொன்றுபோட்ட அந்த மனுஷர் எப்படிப்பட்டவர்கள் என்று கேட்டான்; அதற்கு அவர்கள்: நீர் எப்படிப்பட்டவரோ அவர்களும் அப்படிப்பட்டவர்களே; ஒவ்வொருவனும் பார்வைக்கு ராஜகுமாரனைப்போலிருந்தான் என்றார்கள்.

18. And he said to Zebah and to Zalmunna, How were the men whom you killed in Tabor? And they said, As you are, so they; each one as a king's son in appearance.

19. அப்பொழுது அவன்: அவர்கள் என் சகோதரரும் என் தாயின் பிள்ளைகளுமாயிருந்தார்கள்; அவர்களை உயிரோடே வைத்திருந்தீர்களானால். உங்களைக் கொல்லாதிருப்பேன் என்று கர்த்தரின் ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்று சொல்லி,

19. And he said, They were my brothers, sons of my mother. As Jehovah lives, if you had kept them alive, I would not have killed you.

20. தன் மூத்தகுமாரனாகிய யெத்தேரை நோக்கி: நீ எழுந்து, இவர்களை வெட்டிப்போடு என்றான்; அந்த வாலிபன் இளைஞனானபடியால் பயந்து தன் பட்டயத்தை உருவாதிருந்தான்.

20. And he said to his first-born, Jether, Rise up, kill them. But the young man did not draw his sword, for he was afraid, for he was still a youth.

21. அப்பொழுது சேபாவும் சல்முனாவும்: நீரே எழுந்து எங்கள்மேல் விழும்; மனுஷன் எப்படியோ அப்படியே அவன் பெலனும் இருக்கும் என்றார்கள்; கிதியோன் எழுந்து, சேபாவையும் சல்முனாவையும் கொன்றுபோட்டு, அவர்கள் ஒட்டகங்களின் கழுத்துகளில் இருந்த சாந்துக்காறைகளை எடுத்துக்கொண்டான்.

21. And Zebah and Zalmunna said, You rise up and fall on us, for as the man, so is his might. And Gideon rose up and killed Zebah and Zalmunna, and took the moon crescents which were on the necks of their camels.

22. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் மனுஷர் கிதியோனை நோக்கி: நீர் எங்களை மீதியானியர் கைக்கு நீங்கலாக்கிவிட்டபடியினால் நீரும் உம்முடைய குமாரனும், உம்முடைய குமாரனின் குமாரனும், எங்களை ஆளக்கடவீர்கள் என்றார்கள்.

22. And the men of Israel said to Gideon, rule over us, both you and your son, and your son's son, for you have delivered us from the hand of Midian.

23. அதற்குக் கிதியோன்: நான் உங்களை ஆளமாட்டேன்; என் குமாரனும் உங்களை ஆளமாட்டான்; கர்த்தரே உங்களை ஆளுவாராக என்றான்.

23. And Gideon said to them, I shall not rule over you, nor shall my son rule over you; Jehovah shall rule over you.

24. பின்பு கிதியோன் அவர்களை நோக்கி: உங்களிடத்தில் ஒரு காரியத்தைக் கேட்கிறேன்; நீங்கள் அவரவர் கொள்ளையிட்ட கடுக்கன்களை என்னிடத்தில் கொண்டுவாருங்கள் என்றான். அவர்கள் இஸ்மவேலராயிருந்தபடியினால் அவர்களிடத்தில் பொன்கடுக்கன்கள் இருந்தது.

24. And Gideon said to them, Let me ask of you a request, that each man give to me a ring from his plunder; for they had gold rings, because they were Ishmaelites.

25. இஸ்ரவேலர்: சந்தோஷமாய்க் கொடுப்போம் என்று சொல்லி, ஒரு வஸ்திரத்தை விரித்து, அவரவர் கொள்ளையிட்ட கடுக்கன்களை அதிலே போட்டார்கள்.

25. And they said, We will certainly give. And they spread out a garment and each threw a ring from their plunder there.

26. பிறைச்சிந்தாக்குகளும், ஆரங்களும், மீதியானியரின் ராஜாக்கள் போர்த்துக்கொண்டிருந்த இரத்தாம்பரங்களும், அவர்களுடைய ஒட்டகங்களின் கழுத்துகளிலிருந்த சரப்பணிகளும் அல்லாமல், அவன் கேட்டு வாங்கின பொன்கடுக்கன்களின் நிறை ஆயிரத்து எழுநூறு பொன் சேக்கலின் நிறையாயிருந்தது.

26. And the weight of the rings of gold which he asked was a thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold, apart from the ornaments, and the pendants, and the purple clothing that was on the kings of Midian; also apart from the necklaces on the necks of their camels.

27. அதினால் கிதியோன் ஒரு ஏபோத்தை உண்டாக்கி, அதைத் தன் ஊரான ஒப்ராவிலே வைத்தான்; இஸ்ரவேலரெல்லாரும் அதைப் பின்பற்றிச் சோரம்போனார்கள்; அது கிதியோனுக்கும் அவன் வீட்டாருக்கும் கண்ணியாயிற்று.

27. And Gideon made an ephod of it, and put it in his city, even in Ophrah. And all Israel went whoring after it there, and it became a snare to Gideon and to his house.

28. இந்தப்பிரகாரம் மீதியானியர் திரும்ப தலையெடுக்கக்கூடாதபடிக்கு, இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்கு முன்பாகத் தாழ்த்தப்பட்டார்கள்; தேசமானது கிதியோனின் நாட்களில் நாற்பது வருஷம் அமைதலாயிருந்தது.

28. And Midian was subdued before the sons of Israel, and they did not lift up their heads any more. And the land had rest forty years in the days of Gideon.

29. யோவாசின் குமாரனாகிய யெருபாகால் போய், தன் வீட்டிலே வாசமாயிருந்தான்.

29. And Jerubbaal the son of Joash departed and lived in his own house.

30. கிதியோனுக்கு அநேகம் ஸ்திரீகள் இருந்தார்கள்; அவனுடைய கர்ப்பப்பிறப்பான குமாரர் எழுபதுபேர்.

30. And seventy sons were born to Gideon, coming out of his loins; for he had many wives.

31. சீகேமிலிருந்த அவனுடைய மறுமனையாட்டியும் அவனுக்கு ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்றாள்; அவனுக்கு அபிமெலேக்கு என்று பேரிட்டான்.

31. And his concubine in Shechem bore a son to him, she also; and he called his name Abimelech.

32. பின்பு யோவாசின் குமாரனாகிய கிதியோன் நல்ல விருத்தாப்பியத்திலே மரித்து, ஒப்ராவிலே தன் தகப்பனாகிய யோவாஸ் என்னும் அபியேஸ்ரியனுடைய கல்லறையில் அடக்கம்பண்ணப்பட்டான்.

32. And Gideon the son of Joash died in a good old age, and was buried in the burial place of his father Joash, in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

33. கிதியோன் மரித்தபின் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் திரும்பவும் பாகால்களைப் பின்பற்றிச் சோரம்போய், பாகால்பேரீத்தைத் தங்களுக்கு தேவனாக வைத்துக்கொண்டார்கள்.

33. And it happened, when Gideon was dead, the sons of Israel rebelled and went whoring after the Baals, and appointed Baal-berith for a god for themselves.

34. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் தங்களைச் சுற்றிலுமிருந்த தங்கள் எல்லாச் சத்துருக்களின் கையினின்றும் தங்களை இரட்சித்த தங்கள் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தரை நினையாமலும்,

34. And the sons of Israel did not remember Jehovah their God who had delivered them out of the hand of all their enemies all around;

35. கிதியோன் என்னும் யெருபாகால் இஸ்ரவேலுக்குச் செய்த சகல நன்மைக்குத்தக்க தயவை அவன் வீட்டாருக்குப் பாராட்டாமலும் போனார்கள்.

35. nor did they act with kindness on the house of Jerubbaal, Gideon, according to all the good which he did with Israel.
