1. இஸ்ரவேலர் மிஸ்பாவிலே இருக்கும்போது: நம்மில் ஒருவனும் தன் குமாரத்தியைப் பென்யமீனருக்கு விவாகம்பண்ணிக்கொடுப்பதில்லை என்று ஆணையிட்டிருந்தார்கள்.

1. Now the men of Israel had sworn an oath at Mizpah, saying, 'None of us shall give his daughter to Benjamin as a wife.'

2. ஆகையால் ஜனங்கள் தேவனுடைய வீட்டிற்குப்போய், அங்கே தேவசந்நிதியிலே சாயங்காலமட்டும் இருந்து, சத்தமிட்டு, மிகவும் அழுது:

2. Then the people came to the house of God, and remained there before God till evening. They lifted up their voices and wept bitterly,

3. இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தாவே, இன்று இஸ்ரவேலில் ஒரு கோத்திரம் குறைந்து போகத்தக்கதாக இஸ்ரவேலில் இந்தக் காரியம் நேரிட்டது என்ன என்றார்கள்.

3. and said, 'O LORD God of Israel, why has this come to pass in Israel, that today there should be one tribe [missing] in Israel?'

4. மறுநாளிலே, ஜனங்கள் காலமே எழுந்திருந்து, அங்கே ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக் கட்டி, சர்வாங்கதகனபலிகளையும் சமாதானபலிகளையும் செலுத்தினார்கள்.

4. So it was, on the next morning, that the people rose early and built an altar there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.

5. கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் மிஸ்பாவுக்கு வராதவன் நிச்சயமாய்க் கொலை செய்யப்படக்கடவன் என்று அவர்கள் பெரிய ஆணையிட்டிருந்தபடியால், இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர்: கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் சபைகூடினபோது, இஸ்ரவேலுடைய எல்லாக் கோத்திரங்களிலுமிருந்து வராதே போனவர்கள் யார் என்று விசாரித்தார்கள்.

5. The children of Israel said, 'Who [is there] among all the tribes of Israel who did not come up with the assembly to the LORD?' For they had made a great oath concerning anyone who had not come up to the LORD at Mizpah, saying, 'He shall surely be put to death.'

6. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் தங்கள் சகோதரராகிய பென்யமீனரை நினைத்து, மனஸ்தாபப்பட்டு: இன்று இஸ்ரவேலில் ஒரு கோத்திரம் அறுப்புண்டு போயிற்றே.

6. And the children of Israel grieved for Benjamin their brother, and said, 'One tribe is cut off from Israel today.

7. மீந்திருப்பவர்களுக்கு மனைவிகள் கிடைக்கும்படி நாம் அவர்களுக்காக என்ன செய்யலாம்? நம்முடைய குமாரத்திகளில் ஒருத்தியையும் அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுப்பதில்லை என்று நாம் கர்த்தர்மேல் ஆணையிட்டுக் கொண்டோமே.

7. 'What shall we do for wives for those who remain, seeing we have sworn by the LORD that we will not give them our daughters as wives?'

8. இஸ்ரவேலின் கோத்திரங்களில் மிஸ்பாவிலே கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் வராதேபோன யாதொருவர் உண்டோ என்று விசாரித்தார்கள்; அப்பொழுது கீலேயாத்திலுள்ள யாபேசின் மனுஷரில் ஒருவரும் பாளயத்தில் சபைகூடினபோது வரவில்லை.

8. And they said, 'What one [is there] from the tribes of Israel who did not come up to Mizpah to the LORD?' And, in fact, no one had come to the camp from Jabesh Gilead to the assembly.

9. ஜனங்கள் இலக்கம் பார்க்கப்பட்டபோது, கீலேயாத்திலிருக்கிற யாபேசின் குடிகளில் அங்கே ஒருவரும் இருந்ததில்லை.

9. For when the people were counted, indeed, not one of the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead [was] there.

10. உடனே சபையார் பலவான்களில் பன்னீராயிரம்பேரை அங்கே அழைத்து: நீங்கள் போய், கீலேயாத்திலுள்ள யாபேசின் குடிகளை ஸ்திரீகளோடும் பிள்ளைகளோடும் பட்டயக்கருக்கினால் வெட்டுங்கள்.

10. So the congregation sent out there twelve thousand of their most valiant men, and commanded them, saying, 'Go and strike the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead with the edge of the sword, including the women and children.

11. சகல ஆண்பிள்ளைகளையும், புருஷரை அறிந்த சகல பெண்பிள்ளைகளையும் சங்கரிக்கக்கடவீர்கள் என்று அவர்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டு அனுப்பினார்கள்.

11. 'And this [is] the thing that you shall do: You shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman who has known a man intimately.'

12. இவர்கள் கீலேயாத்திலுள்ள யாபேசின் குடிகளிடத்திலே புருஷரை அறியாத நானூறு கன்னிப்பெண்களைக் கண்டு பிடித்து, அவர்களைக் கானான்தேசமான சீலோவிலிருக்கிற பாளயத்திற்குக் கொண்டுவந்தார்கள்.

12. So they found among the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead four hundred young virgins who had not known a man intimately; and they brought them to the camp at Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.

13. அப்பொழுது ரிம்மோன் கன்மலையிலிருக்கிற பென்யமீன் புத்திரரோடே பேசவும், அவர்களுக்குச் சமாதானம் கூறவும், சபையார் எல்லாரும் மனுஷரை அனுப்பினார்கள்.

13. Then the whole congregation sent [word] to the children of Benjamin who [were] at the rock of Rimmon, and announced peace to them.

14. அப்படியே அக்காலத்தில் பென்யமீனர் திரும்ப வந்தார்கள்; கீலேயாத்திலிருக்கிற யாபேசின் ஸ்திரீகளில் உயிரோடே வைத்த பெண்களை அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தார்கள்; அப்படிச் செய்தும் அவர்கள் தொகைக்குக் காணாதிருந்தது.

14. So Benjamin came back at that time, and they gave them the women whom they had saved alive of the women of Jabesh Gilead; and yet they had not found enough for them.

15. இஸ்ரவேல் கோத்திரங்களிலே கர்த்தர் ஒரு பிளப்பை உண்டாக்கினார் என்று ஜனங்கள் பென்யமீனருக்காக மனஸ்தாபப்பட்டார்கள்.

15. And the people grieved for Benjamin, because the LORD had made a void in the tribes of Israel.

16. பென்யமீன் கோத்திர ஸ்திரீகள் அழிந்தபடியினாலே, மீதியான மற்றப்பேர்களுக்கும் மனைவிகள் கிடைக்கும்படி என்ன செய்யலாம் என்று சபையின் மூப்பரானவர்கள் கேட்டு,

16. Then the elders of the congregation said, 'What shall we do for wives for those who remain, since the women of Benjamin have been destroyed?'

17. இஸ்ரவேலில் ஒரு கோத்திரம் நிர்மூலமாகாதபடிக்கு, தப்பினவர்களுடைய சுதந்தரம் பென்யமீனுக்கு இருக்கவேண்டுமே,

17. And they said, '[There must be] an inheritance for the survivors of Benjamin, that a tribe may not be destroyed from Israel.

18. நாமோ நம்முடைய குமாரத்திகளில் அவர்களுக்கு பெண் கொடுக்கக்கூடாது; பென்யமீனருக்குப் பெண் கொடுக்கிறவன் சபிக்கப்பட்டவன் என்று, இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் ஆணையிட்டார்களே என்றார்கள்.

18. 'However, we cannot give them wives from our daughters, for the children of Israel have sworn an oath, saying, 'Cursed [be] the one who gives a wife to Benjamin.' '

19. பின்னும், இதோ, பெத்தேலுக்கு வடக்கே பெத்தேலிலிருந்து சீகேமுக்குப் போகிற பாதைக்குக் கிழக்காகவும் லிபோனாவுக்குத் தெற்காகவும் இருக்கிற சீலோவிலே வருஷந்தோறும் கர்த்தருக்குப் பண்டிகை கொண்டாடப்படுகிறதே என்று சொல்லி,

19. Then they said, 'In fact, [there is] a yearly feast of the LORD in Shiloh, which [is] north of Bethel, on the east side of the highway that goes up from Bethel to Shechem, and south of Lebonah.'

20. அவர்கள் பென்யமீன் புத்திரரை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் போய், திராட்சத்தோட்டங்களிலே பதிவிருந்து,

20. Therefore they instructed the children of Benjamin, saying, 'Go, lie in wait in the vineyards,

21. சீலோவின் குமாரத்திகள் கீதவாத்தியத்தோடே நடனம் பண்ணுகிறவர்களாய்ப் புறப்பட்டு வருகிறதை நீங்கள் காணும்போது, திராட்சத்தோட்டங்களிலிருந்து புறப்பட்டு, உங்களில் அவரவர் சீலோவின் குமாரத்திகளில் ஒவ்வொரு பெண்ணைப் பிடித்துப் பென்யமீன் தேசத்திற்குக் கொண்டுபோங்கள்.

21. and watch; and just when the daughters of Shiloh come out to perform their dances, then come out from the vineyards, and every man catch a wife for himself from the daughters of Shiloh; then go to the land of Benjamin.

22. அவர்களுடைய தகப்பன்மாராகிலும், சகோதரராகிலும் எங்களிடத்தில் முறையிட வரும்போது, நாங்கள் அவர்களை நோக்கி: எங்கள் நிமித்தம் அவர்களுக்குத் தயவு செய்யுங்கள்; நாங்கள் யுத்தம் பண்ணி, அவனவனுக்கு மனைவியை வாங்கிக்கொடுக்கவில்லை; உங்கள்மேல் குற்றமுண்டாக இப்போது நீங்கள் அவர்களுக்கு மனைவிகளைக் கொடுக்கவும் இல்லை என்போம் என்று சொன்னார்கள்.

22. 'Then it shall be, when their fathers or their brothers come to us to complain, that we will say to them, 'Be kind to them for our sakes, because we did not take a wife for any of them in the war; for [it is] not [as though] you have given the [women] to them at this time, making yourselves guilty of your oath.' '

23. பென்யமீன் புத்திரர் அப்படியே செய்து, நடனம்பண்ணுகிறவர்களிலே தங்கள் தொகைக்குச் சரியான பெண்களை மனைவிகளாகப் பிடித்துக்கொண்டு, தங்கள் சுதந்தரத்திற்குத் திரும்பிப்போய், பட்டணங்களைப் புதுப்பித்துக் கட்டி, அவைகளில் குடியிருந்தார்கள்.

23. And the children of Benjamin did so; they took enough wives for their number from those who danced, whom they caught. Then they went and returned to their inheritance, and they rebuilt the cities and dwelt in them.

24. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரும் அக்காலத்திலே அவ்விடம் விட்டு அவரவர் தங்கள் கோத்திரத்துக்கும் தங்கள் குடும்பத்துக்கும் போய், அவரவர் தங்கள் சுதந்தரத்தில் சேர்ந்தார்கள்.

24. So the children of Israel departed from there at that time, every man to his tribe and family; they went out from there, every man to his inheritance.

25. அந்நாட்களிலே இஸ்ரவேலில் ராஜா இல்லை; அவனவன் தன்தன் பார்வைக்குச் சரிப்போனபடி செய்து வந்தான்.

25. In those days [there was] no king in Israel; everyone did [what was] right in his own eyes.
