1. கீலேயாத்தியனான யெப்தா பலத்த பராக்கிரமசாலியாயிருந்தான்; அவன் பரஸ்திரீயின் குமாரன்; கிலெயாத் அவனைப் பெற்றான்.

1. And Jephthah the Gileadite [was] a mighty man; and he [was] the son of a harlot, who bore Jephthah to Gilead.

2. கிலெயாத்தின் மனைவியும் அவனுக்குக் குமாரர்களைப் பெற்றாள்; அவன் மனைவி பெற்ற குமாரர் பெரியவர்களானபின்பு, அவர்கள் யெப்தாவை நோக்கி: உனக்கு எங்கள் தகப்பன் வீட்டிலே சுதந்தரம் இல்லை; நீ அந்நிய ஸ்திரீயின் மகன் என்று சொல்லி அவனைத் துரத்தினார்கள்.

2. And the wife of Gilead bore him sons; and the sons of his wife grew up, and they cast out Jephthah, and said to him, You shall not inherit in the house of our father, for you are the son of a concubine.

3. அப்பொழுது யெப்தா: தன் சகோதரரை விட்டு ஓடிப்போய், தோப் தேசத்திலே குடியிருந்தான்; வீணரான மனுஷர் யெப்தாவோடே கூடிக்கொண்டு, அவனோடேகூட யுத்தத்திற்குப் போவார்கள்.

3. And Jephthah fled from the face of his brothers, and dwelt in the land of Tob; and vain men gathered to Jephthah, and went out with him.

4. சிலநாளைக்குப்பின்பு, அம்மோன் புத்திரர் இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் யுத்தம்பண்ணினார்கள்.

4. And it came to pass when the children of Ammon prepared to fight with Israel,

5. அவர்கள் இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் யுத்தம்பண்ணும்போது கீலேயாத்தின் மூப்பர் யெப்தாவைத் தோப் தேசத்திலிருந்து அழைத்துவரப்போய்,

5. that the elders of Gilead went to fetch Jephthah from the land of Tob.

6. யெப்தாவை நோக்கி: நீ வந்து, நாங்கள் அம்மோன் புத்திரரோடு யுத்தம்பண்ண எங்கள் சேனாபதியாயிருக்க வேண்டும் என்றார்கள்.

6. And they said to Jephthah, Come, and be our head, and we will fight with the sons of Ammon.

7. அதற்கு யெப்தா கீலேயாத்தின் மூப்பரைப் பார்த்து: நீங்கள் அல்லவா என்னைப் பகைத்து, என் தகப்பன் வீட்டிலிருந்து என்னைத் துரத்தினவர்கள்? இப்பொழுது உங்களுக்கு ஆபத்து நேரிட்டிருக்கிற சமயத்தில் நீங்கள் என்னிடத்தில் ஏன் வருகிறீர்கள் என்றான்.

7. And Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, Did you not hate me, and cast me out of my father's house, and banish me from you? And why have you come to me now when you want me?

8. அதற்குக் கீலேயாத்தின் மூப்பர் யெப்தாவை நோக்கி: நீ எங்களுடனேகூட வந்து, அம்மோன் புத்திரரோடு யுத்தம்பண்ணி, கீலேயாத்தின் குடிகளாகிய எங்கள் அனைவர்மேலும் தலைவனாயிருக்க வேண்டும்; இதற்காக இப்பொழுது உன்னிடத்தில் வந்தோம் என்றார்கள்.

8. And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, Therefore have we now turned to you, that you should go with us, and fight against the sons of Ammon, and be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.

9. அதற்கு யெப்தா: அம்மோன் புத்திரரோடே யுத்தம்பண்ண, நீங்கள் என்னைத் திரும்ப அழைத்துப்போனபின்பு, கர்த்தர் அவர்களை என் முன்னிலையாய் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தால், என்னை உங்களுக்குத் தலைவனாய் வைப்பீர்களா என்று கீலேயாத்தின் மூப்பரைக் கேட்டான்.

9. And Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, If you turn me back to fight with the children of Ammon, and the Lord should deliver them before me, then will I be your head.

10. கீலேயாத்தின் மூப்பர் யெப்தாவைப் பார்த்து: நாங்கள் உன் வார்த்தையின்படியே செய்யாவிட்டால், கர்த்தர் நமக்கு நடுநின்று கேட்பாராக என்றார்கள்.

10. And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, The Lord be witness between us, if we shall not do according to your word.

11. அப்பொழுது யெப்தா கீலேயாத்தின் மூப்பரோடே கூடப்போனான்; ஜனங்கள் அவனைத் தங்கள்மேல் தலைவனும் சேனாபதியுமாக வைத்தார்கள். யெப்தா தன் காரியங்களையெல்லாம் மிஸ்பாவிலே கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியிலே சொன்னான்.

11. And Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and ruler over them. And Jephthah spoke all his words before the Lord in Mizpah.

12. பின்பு யெப்தா அம்மோன் புத்திரரின் ராஜாவினிடத்திற்கு ஸ்தானாபதிகளை அனுப்பி: நீ என் தேசத்தில் எனக்கு விரோதமாக யுத்தம்பண்ண வருகிறதற்கு, எனக்கும் உனக்கும் என்ன வழக்கு இருக்கிறது என்று கேட்கச் சொன்னான்.

12. And Jephthah sent messengers to the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What have I to do with you, that you have come against me to fight in my land?

13. அம்மோன் புத்திரரின் ராஜா யெப்தாவின் ஸ்தானாபதிகளை நோக்கி: இஸ்ரவேலர் எகிப்திலிருந்து வருகிறபோது, அர்னோன் துவக்கி யாபோக்மட்டும், யோர்தான்மட்டும் இருக்கிற என் தேசத்தைக் கட்டிக்கொண்டார்களே; இப்பொழுது அதை எனக்குச் சமாதானமாய்த் திரும்பக் கொடுத்துவிடவேண்டும் என்று சொல்லுங்கள் என்றான்.

13. And the king of the children of Ammon said to the messengers of Jephthah, Because Israel took my land when he went up out of Egypt, from Arnon to Jabbok, and to the Jordan: now then return them peaceably and I will depart.

14. யெப்தா மறுபடியும் அம்மோன் புத்திரரின் ராஜாவினிடத்திற்கு ஸ்தானாபதிகளை அனுப்பி, அவனுக்குச் சொல்லச் சொன்னதாவது:

14. And Jephthah again sent messengers to the king of the children of Ammon,

15. யெப்தா சொல்லுகிறது என்னவென்றால்: இஸ்ரவேலர் மோவாபியரின் தேசத்தையாகிலும், அம்மோன் புத்திரரின் தேசத்தையாகிலும் கட்டிக்கொண்டதில்லையே.

15. and said to him, Thus says Jephthah: Israel took not the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon;

16. இஸ்ரவேலர் எகிப்திலிருந்து வருகிறபோது, வனாந்தரத்தில் சிவந்த சமுத்திரமட்டும் நடந்து, பின்பு காதேசுக்கு வந்து,

16. for in their going up out of Egypt Israel went in the wilderness as far as the Red Sea, and came to Kadesh.

17. இஸ்ரவேலர் ஏதோமின் ராஜாவினிடத்திற்கு ஸ்தானாபதிகளை அனுப்பி: நாங்கள் உன் தேசத்துவழியாய்க் கடந்து போகட்டும் என்று சொல்லச்சொன்னார்கள்; அதற்கு ஏதோமின் ராஜா செவிகொடுக்கவில்லை; அப்படியே மோவாபின் ராஜாவினிடத்திற்கும் அனுப்பினார்கள்; அவனும் சம்மதிக்கவில்லை. ஆதலால் இஸ்ரவேலர் காதேசிலே தரித்திருந்து,

17. And Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, I will pass, if it please you, by your land; and the king of Edom would not consent. And [Israel] also sent to the king of Moab, and he did not consent; and Israel sojourned in Kadesh.

18. பின்பு வனாந்தரவழியாய் நடந்து ஏதோம் தேசத்தையும் மோவாப் தேசத்தையும் சுற்றிப்போய், மோவாபின் தேசத்திற்குக் கிழக்கேவந்து, மோவாபின் எல்லைக்குள் பிரவேசியாமல், மோவாபின் எல்லையான அர்னோன் நதிக்கு அப்பாலே பாளயமிறங்கினார்கள்.

18. And [they] journeyed in the wilderness, and bypassed the land of Edom and the land of Moab. And they came by the east of the land of Moab, an encamped in the country beyond Arnon, and did not enter the borders of Moab, for Arnon is the border of Moab.

19. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலர் எஸ்போனில் ஆளுகிற சீகோன் என்னும் எமோரியரின் ராஜாவினிடத்திற்கு ஸ்தானாபதிகளை அனுப்பி: நாங்கள் உன் தேசத்து வழியாய் எங்கள் ஸ்தானத்திற்குக் கடந்துபோக இடங்கொடு என்று சொல்லச்சொன்னார்கள்.

19. And Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorite, king of Hesbron, and Israel said to him, Let us pass through your land to our place.

20. சீகோன் இஸ்ரவேலரை நம்பாததினால், தன் எல்லையைக் கடந்துபோகிறதற்கு இடங்கொடாமல் தன் ஜனங்களையெல்லாம் கூட்டி, யாகாசிலே பாளயமிறங்கி, இஸ்ரவேலரோடே யுத்தம்பண்ணினான்.

20. And Sihon did not trust Israel to pass through his territory; and Sihon gathered all his people, and they encamped at Jahaz; and he set the battle in array against Israel.

21. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் சீகோனையும் அவனுடைய எல்லா ஜனங்களையும் இஸ்ரவேலரின் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்; அவர்களை முறிய அடித்தார்கள்; அப்படியே இஸ்ரவேலர் அந்த தேசத்திலே குடியிருந்த எமோரியரின் சீமையையெல்லாம் பிடித்து, அர்னோன் துவக்கி,

21. And the Lord God of Israel delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they struck him; and Israel inherited all the land of the Amorite who dwelt in that land,

22. யாபோக்மட்டும், வனாந்தரம் துவக்கி யோர்தான்மட்டும் இருக்கிற எமோரியரின் எல்லையையெல்லாம் சுதந்தரமாய்க் கட்டிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

22. from Arnon and to Jabbok, and from the wilderness to the Jordan.

23. இப்படி இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் எமோரியரைத் தம்முடைய ஜனமாகிய இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு முன்பாகத் துரத்தியிருக்க, நீர் அந்த தேசத்தைக் கட்டிக்கொள்ளத்தகுமா?

23. And now the Lord God of Israel has removed the Amorite from before His people Israel, and shall you inherit his [land]?

24. உம்முடைய தேவனாகிய காமோஸ் உமக்கு முன்பாகத் துரத்துகிறவர்களின் தேசத்தை நீர் கட்டிக்கொள்ளமாட்டீரோ? அப்படியே எங்கள் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் எங்களுக்கு முன்பாகத் துரத்துகிறவர்களின் தேசத்தையெல்லாம் நாங்களும் கட்டிக்கொள்ளுகிறோம்.

24. Will you not inherit those possessions which Chemosh your god shall cause you to inherit; and shall not we inherit the [land of] all those whom the Lord our God has removed from before you?

25. மேலும் சிப்போரின் குமாரனாகிய பாலாக் என்னும் மோவாபின் ராஜாவைப்பார்க்கிலும் உமக்கு அதிக நியாயம் உண்டோ? அவன் இஸ்ரவேலோடே எப்போதாகிலும் வழக்காடினானா? எப்போதாகிலும் அவர்களுக்கு விரோதமாக யுத்தம்பண்ணினானா?

25. And now are you any better than Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab? Did he indeed fight with Israel, or indeed make war with him,

26. இஸ்ரவேலர் எஸ்போனிலும் அதின் கிராமங்களிலும், ஆரோவேரிலும் அதின் கிராமங்களிலும், அர்னோன் நதியருகான எல்லா ஊர்களிலும், முந்நூறு வருஷம் குடியிருக்கையில், இவ்வளவு காலமாய் நீங்கள் அதைத் திருப்பிக்கொள்ளாதே போனதென்ன?

26. when Israel dwelt in Hesbron and in its coasts, and in the land of Aroer and in its coasts, and in all the cities by the Jordan, three hundred years? And why did you not recover them in that time?

27. நான் உமக்கு விரோதமாய்க் குற்றம் செய்யவில்லை; நீர் எனக்கு விரோதமாய் யுத்தம்பண்ணுகிறதினால் நீர்தான் எனக்கு அநியாயம் செய்கிறீர்; நியாயாதிபதியாகிய கர்த்தர் இன்று இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்கும் அம்மோன் புத்திரருக்கும் நடுநின்று நியாயம் தீர்க்கக்கடவர் என்று சொல்லி அனுப்பினான்.

27. And now I have not sinned against you, but you wronged me in preparing war against me: may the Lord, the Judge, render judgment this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.

28. ஆனாலும் அம்மோன் புத்திரரின் ராஜா தனக்கு யெப்தா சொல்லியனுப்பின வார்த்தைகளுக்குச் செவிகொடாதே போனான்.

28. But the king of the children of Ammon did not heed the words of Jephthah, which he sent to him.

29. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தருடைய ஆவி யெப்தாவின்மேல் இறங்கினார்; அவன் கீலேயாத்தையும் மனாசே நாட்டையும் கடந்துபோய், கீலேயாத்திலிருக்கிற மிஸ்பாவுக்கு வந்து, அங்கேயிருந்து அம்மோன் புத்திரருக்கு விரோதமாகப் போனான்.

29. And the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and passed by the watchtower of Gilead to the other side of the children of Ammon.

30. அப்பொழுது யெப்தா கர்த்தருக்கு ஒரு பொருத்தனையைப்பண்ணி: தேவரீர் அம்மோன் புத்திரரை என் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுக்கவே ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தால்,

30. And Jephthah vowed a vow to the Lord, and said, If You will indeed deliver the children of Ammon into my hand,

31. நான் அம்மோன் புத்திரரிடத்திலிருந்து சமாதானத்தோடே திரும்பி வரும்போது, என் வீட்டு வாசற்படியிலிருந்து எனக்கு எதிர்கொண்டு வருவது எதுவோ அது கர்த்தருக்கு உரியதாகும், அதைச் சர்வாங்கதகனபலியாகச் செலுத்துவேன் என்றான்.

31. then it shall come to pass that whosoever shall first come out of the door of my house to meet me when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, he shall be the Lord's: I will offer him up for a whole burnt offering.

32. யெப்தா அம்மோன் புத்திரரின்மேல் யுத்தம்பண்ண, அவர்களுக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் புறப்பட்டுப்போனான்; கர்த்தர் அவர்களை அவன் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்.
எபிரேயர் 11:32

32. And Jephthah advanced to meet the sons of Ammon to fight against them; and the Lord delivered them into his hand.

33. அவன் அவர்களை ஆரோவேர் துவக்கி மின்னித்திற்குப் போகுமட்டும், திராட்சத்தோட்டத்து நிலங்கள்வரைக்கும், மகா சங்காரமாய் முறிய அடித்து, இருபது பட்டணங்களைப் பிடித்தான்; இப்படி அம்மோன் புத்திரர் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்கு முன்பாகத் தாழ்த்தப்பட்டார்கள்.

33. And he smote them from Aroer till [one] comes to Arnon, twenty cities in number, and as far as Abel-Keramim, with a very great destruction. And the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.

34. யெப்தா மிஸ்பாவிலிருக்கிற தன் வீட்டுக்கு வருகிறபோது, இதோ, அவன் குமாரத்தி தம்புரு வாசித்து நடனஞ்செய்து, அவனுக்கு எதிர்கொண்டு வந்தாள்; அவள் அவனுக்கு ஒரே பிள்ளையானவள்; அவளையல்லாமல் அவனுக்குக் குமாரனும் இல்லை குமாரத்தியும் இல்லை.

34. And Jephthah came to Mizpah, to his house; and behold, his daughter came forth to meet him with timbrels and dances; and she was his only child, [for] he had no other son or daughter.

35. அவன் அவளைக் கண்டவுடனே தன் வஸ்திரங்களைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்டு: ஐயோ! என் மகளே, என்னை மிகவும் மனமடியவும் கலங்கவும் பண்ணுகிறாய்; நான் கர்த்தரை நோக்கி என் வாயைத் திறந்து சொல்லிவிட்டேன்; அதை நான் மாற்றக்கூடாது என்றான்.

35. And it came to pass when he saw her, that he tore his clothes, and said, Ah, ah, my daughter, you have indeed troubled me, and you are the cause of my trouble; and I have opened my mouth against you to the Lord, and I shall not be able to return from it.

36. அப்பொழுது அவள்: என் தகப்பனே, நீர் கர்த்தரை நோக்கி உம்முடைய வாயைத் திறந்து பேசினீரல்லவோ? அம்மோன் புத்திரராகிய உம்முடைய சத்துருக்களுக்கு நீதியைச் சரிக்கட்டும் ஜெயத்தைக் கர்த்தர் உமக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டபடியினால், உம்முடைய வாயிலிருந்து புறப்பட்டபடியே எனக்குச் செய்யும் என்றாள்.

36. And she said to him, Father, have you opened your mouth to the Lord? Do to me accordingly as [the word] went out of your mouth, in that the Lord has worked vengeance for you on your enemies of the children of Ammon.

37. பின்னும் அவள் தன் தகப்பனை நோக்கி: நீர் எனக்கு ஒரு காரியம் செய்யவேண்டும்; நான் மலைகளின்மேல் போய்த்திரிந்து, நானும் என் தோழிமார்களும் என் கன்னிமையினிமித்தம் துக்கங்கொண்டாட, எனக்கு இரண்டு மாதம் தவணைகொடும் என்றாள்.

37. And she said to her father, Let my father now do this thing: let me alone for two months, and I will go up and down on the mountains, and I will lament my virginity, I and my companions.

38. அதற்கு அவன்: போய்வா என்று அவளை இரண்டு மாதத்திற்கு அனுப்பிவிட்டான்; அவள் தன் தோழிமார்களோடும் கூடப்போய், தன் கன்னிமையினிமித்தம் மலைகளின்மேல் துக்கங்கொண்டாடி,

38. And he said, Go. And he sent her away for two months. And she went, and her companions, and she lamented her virginity on the mountains.

39. இரண்டு மாதம் முடிந்தபின்பு, தன் தகப்பனிடத்திற்குத் திரும்பிவந்தாள்; அப்பொழுது அவன் பண்ணியிருந்த தன் பொருத்தனையின்படி அவளுக்குச் செய்தான்; அவள் புருஷனை அறியாதிருந்தாள்.

39. And it came to pass at the end of the two months that she returned to her father; and he performed upon her his vow which he vowed; and she knew no man.

40. இதினிமித்தம் இஸ்ரவேலின் குமாரத்திகள் வருஷந்தோறும் போய், நாலு நாள் கீலேயாத்தியனான யெப்தாவின் குமாரத்தியைக்குறித்துப் புலம்புவது இஸ்ரவேலிலே வழக்கமாயிற்று.

40. And it was an ordinance in Israel, [That] the daughters of Israel went from year to year to lament the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite for four days in a year.
