1. பின்பு யோசுவா இஸ்ரவேலின் கோத்திரங்களையெல்லாம் சீகேமிலே கூடிவரப்பண்ணி, இஸ்ரவேலின் மூப்பரையும், தலைவரையும், நியாயாதிபதிகளையும், அதிபதிகளையும் வரவழைத்தான்; அவர்கள் தேவனுடைய சந்நிதியில் வந்து நின்றார்கள்.

1. And Joshua gathered together all the tribes of Israel, unto Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers, and they presented themselves before God.

2. அப்பொழுது யோசுவா சகல ஜனங்களையும் நோக்கி: இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறது என்னவென்றால்: பூர்வத்திலே உங்கள் பிதாக்களாகிய ஆபிரகாமுக்கும் நாகோருக்கும் தகப்பனான தேராகு என்பவன், நதிக்கு அப்புறத்திலே குடியிருந்தபோது அவர்கள் வேறே தேவர்களைச் சேவித்தார்கள்;

2. Then said Joshua unto all the people Thus, saith Yahweh, God of Israel, Beyond the River, dwelt your fathers from age-past times, unto Terah, father of Abraham, and father of Nahor, and they served other gods.

3. நான் நதிக்கு அப்புறத்தில் இருந்த உங்கள் தகப்பனாகிய ஆபிரகாமை அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவந்து, அவனைக் கானான்தேசமெங்கும் சஞ்சரிக்கச்செய்து, அவன் சந்ததியைத் திரட்சியாக்கி, அவனுக்கு ஈசாக்கைக் கொடுத்தேன்.

3. So I took your father, Abraham, from beyond the River, and led him through all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave unto him, Isaac;

4. ஈசாக்குக்கு யாக்கோபையும் ஏசாவையும் கட்டளையிட்டு, ஏசாவுக்குச் சேயீர் மலைத்தேசத்தைச் சுதந்தரிக்கும்படி கொடுத்தேன்; யாக்கோபும் அவன் பிள்ளைகளுமோ எகிப்துக்குப் போனார்கள்;

4. and gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau, and gave unto Esau, Mount Seir, to possess it, but, Jacob and his sons, went down into Egypt.

5. நான் மோசேயையும் ஆரோனையும் அனுப்பி, எகிப்தியரை வாதித்தேன்; அப்படி அவர்கள் நடுவிலே நான் செய்த பின்பு உங்களைப் புறப்படப்பண்ணினேன்.

5. Then sent I Moses and Aaron, and plagued Egypt, according to that which I did in their midst, and, afterwards, brought you forth.

6. நான் உங்கள் பிதாக்களை எகிப்திலிருந்து புறப்படப்பண்ணினபோது, சமுத்திரக்கரைக்கு வந்தீர்கள்; எகிப்தியர் இரதங்களோடும் குதிரைவீரரோடும் உங்கள் பிதாக்களைச் சிவந்த சமுத்திரமட்டும் பின்தொடர்ந்தார்கள்.

6. Yea I brought forth your fathers, out of Egypt, and ye came unto the sea, and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers, with chariots and with horsemen, unto the Red Sea.

7. அவர்கள் கர்த்தரை நோக்கிக் கூப்பிட்டார்கள்; அப்பொழுது அவர் உங்களுக்கும் எகிப்தியருக்கும் நடுவே அந்தகாரத்தை வரப்பண்ணி, சமுத்திரத்தை அவர்கள்மேல் புரளச்செய்து, அவர்களை மூடிப்போட்டார்; நான் எகிப்திலே செய்ததை உங்கள் கண்கள் கண்டது; பின்பு வனாந்தரத்தில் அநேகநாள் சஞ்சரித்தீர்கள்.

7. So they made outcry unto Yahweh, and he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought in upon them the sea, and covered them, and your eyes beheld what I did with the Egyptians. And, when ye had remained in the desert many days,

8. அதற்குப்பின்பு உங்களை யோர்தானுக்கு அப்புறத்திலே குடியிருந்த எமோரியரின் தேசத்திற்குக் கொண்டுவந்தேன்; அவர்கள் உங்களோடு யுத்தம்பண்ணுகிறபோது, அவர்களை உங்கள் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தேன்; அவர்கள் தேசத்தைக் கட்டிக்கொண்டீர்கள்; அவர்களை உங்கள் முகத்தினின்று அழித்துவிட்டேன்.

8. then I brought you into the land of the Amorites, who were dwelling over the Jordan, and they fought with you, then delivered I them into your hand, and ye took possession of their land, so I destroyed them from before you.

9. அப்பொழுது சிப்போரின் குமாரன் பாலாக் என்னும் மோவாபியரின் ராஜா எழும்பி, இஸ்ரவேலோடு யுத்தம்பண்ணி, உங்களைச் சபிக்கும்படி, பேயோரின் குமாரனாகிய பிலேயாமை அழைத்தனுப்பினான்.

9. Then rose up Balak, son of Zippor, king of Moab, and made war with Israel, and sent and called for Balaam son of Beor, to curse you;

10. பிலேயாமுக்குச் செவிகொடுக்க எனக்குச் சித்தமில்லாததினாலே, அவன் உங்களை ஆசீர்வதிக்கவே ஆசீர்வதித்தான், இவ்விதமாய் உங்களை அவன் கைக்குத் தப்புவித்தேன்.

10. but I was not willing to hearken unto Balaam, so, he kept on blessing, you, and I rescued you out of his hand.

11. பின்பு யோர்தானைக் கடந்து எரிகோவுக்கு வந்தீர்கள்; எரிகோவின் குடிகளும், எமோரியரும், பெரிசியரும், கானானியரும், ஏத்தியரும், கிர்காசியரும், ஏவியரும், எபூசியரும், உங்களுக்கு விரோதமாக யுத்தம்பண்ணினார்கள்; ஆனாலும் அவர்களை நான் உங்கள் கையிலே ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தேன்.

11. Then passed ye over the Jordan, and came in unto Jericho, and, when they would have made war with you even the lords of Jericho the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Girgashite, the Hivite and the Jebusite, then delivered I them into your hand.

12. எமோரியரின் இரண்டு ராஜாக்களையும் உங்கள் பட்டயத்தாலும் உங்கள் வில்லாலும் நீங்கள் துரத்தவில்லை; நான் உங்களுக்கு முன்பாகக் குளவிகளை அனுப்பினேன்; அவைகள் அவர்களை உங்கள் முன்னின்று துரத்திவிட்டது.

12. And I sent before you the hornet, which drave them out from before you, the two kings of the Amorites, not with thy sword, nor with thy bow.

13. அப்படியே நீங்கள் பண்படுத்தாத தேசத்தையும், நீங்கள் கட்டாத பட்டணங்களையும் உங்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தேன், அவைகளில் குடியிருக்கிறீர்கள்; நீங்கள் நடாத திராட்சத்தோட்டங்களின் பலனையும், ஒலிவத்தோப்புக்களின் பலனையும் புசிக்கிறீர்கள் என்றார்.

13. Thus I gave unto you a land on which thou hadst not laboured, and cities which ye had not built, and ye proceeded to dwell therein, of vineyards and oliveyards, which ye planted not, ye are eating.

14. ஆகையால் நீங்கள் கர்த்தருக்குப் பயந்து, அவரை உத்தமமும் உண்மையுமாய்ச் சேவித்து, உங்கள் பிதாக்கள் நதிக்கு அப்புறத்திலும் எகிப்திலும் சேவித்த தேவர்களை அகற்றிவிட்டு, கர்த்தரைச் சேவியுங்கள்.

14. Now, therefore, revere ye Yahweh, and serve him, in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River, and in Egypt, and serve ye Yahweh.

15. கர்த்தரைச் சேவிக்கிறது உங்கள் பார்வைக்கு ஆகாததாய்க் கண்டால், பின்னை யாரைச் சேவிப்பீர்கள் என்று இன்று தெரிந்துகொள்ளுங்கள்; நதிக்கு அப்புறத்தில் உங்கள் பிதாக்கள் சேவித்த தேவர்களைச் சேவிப்பீர்களோ? நீங்கள் வாசம்பண்ணுகிற தேசத்துக் குடிகளாகிய எமோரியரின் தேவர்களைச் சேவிப்பீர்களோ? நானும் என் வீட்டாருமோவென்றால், கர்த்தரையே சேவிப்போம் என்றான்.

15. But, if it be, a vexation, in your eyes, to serve Yahweh, choose ye for yourselves, to-day, whom ye will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served, that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye are dwelling, but, I and my house, will serve Yahweh.

16. அப்பொழுது ஜனங்கள் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: வேறே தேவர்களைச் சேவிக்கும்படி, கர்த்தரை விட்டு விலகுகிற காரியம் எங்களுக்குத் தூரமாயிருப்பதாக.

16. Then responded the people, and said, Far be it from us, that we should forsake Yahweh, to serve other gods;

17. நம்மையும் நம்முடைய பிதாக்களையும் அடிமைத்தன வீடாகிய எகிப்து தேசத்திலிருந்து புறப்படப்பண்ணி, நம்முடைய கண்களுக்கு முன்பாகப் பெரிய அடையாளங்களைச் செய்து, நாம் நடந்த எல்லா வழியிலும், நாம் கடந்து வந்த எல்லா ஜனங்களுக்குள்ளும் நம்மைக் காப்பாற்றினவர் நம்முடைய தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர்தாமே.

17. for, as for Yahweh our God, he, brought up both us and our fathers, out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of servants, and who did before our eyes, these great signs, and preserved us throughout all the way wherein we journeyed, and among all the peoples through the midst of whom we passed;

18. தேசத்திலே குடியிருந்த எமோரியர் முதலான சகல ஜனங்களையும் கர்த்தர் நமக்கு முன்பாகத் துரத்தினாரே; ஆகையால் நாங்களும் கர்த்தரைச் சேவிப்போம், அவரே நம்முடைய தேவன் என்றார்கள்.

18. then did Yahweh drive out all the peoples, even the Amorites were dwelling in the land, from before us, we too, will serve Yahweh, for, he, is our God.

19. யோசுவா ஜனங்களை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் கர்த்தரைச் சேவிக்கமாட்டீர்கள்; அவர் பரிசுத்தமுள்ள தேவன், அவர் எரிச்சலுள்ள தேவன்; உங்கள் மீறுதலையும் உங்கள் பாவங்களையும் மன்னியார்.

19. Then said Joshua unto the people Ye cannot serve Yahweh, for, a holy God, he is, a jealous GOD, he is, he will not forgive your transgression, nor your sins.

20. கர்த்தர் உங்களுக்கு நன்மை செய்திருக்க, நீங்கள் கர்த்தரை விட்டு, அந்நிய தேவர்களைச் சேவித்தால், அவர் திரும்பி உங்களுக்குத் தீமை செய்து, உங்களை நிர்மூலமாக்குவார் என்றான்.

20. When ye forsake Yahweh, and serve the gods of a stranger, then will he turn, and inflict on you calamity, and consume you, after that he hath dealt well with you.

21. ஜனங்கள் யோசுவாவை நோக்கி: அப்படியல்ல, நாங்கள் கர்த்தரையே சேவிப்போம் என்றார்கள்.

21. But the people said unto Joshua, Nay! but, Yahweh, will we serve.

22. அப்பொழுது யோசுவா ஜனங்களை நோக்கி: கர்த்தரைச் சேவிக்கும்படி நீங்கள் அவரைத் தெரிந்துகொண்டதற்கு நீங்களே உங்களுக்குச் சாட்சிகள் என்றான். அதற்கு அவர்கள்: நாங்களே சாட்சிகள் என்றார்கள்.

22. Then said Joshua unto the people Witnesses, are ye, against yourselves, that, ye yourselves, have chosen you Yahweh, to serve him. And they said: Witnesses!

23. அப்பொழுது அவன்: அப்படியானால், இப்பொழுதும் உங்கள் நடுவே இருக்கிற அந்நியதேவர்களை அகற்றிவிட்டு, உங்கள் இருதயத்தை இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருக்கு நேராகத் திருப்புங்கள் என்றான்.

23. Now, therefore, put ye away the gods of the stranger, that are in your midst, and incline your heart unto Yahweh, God of Israel.

24. அப்பொழுது ஜனங்கள் யோசுவாவை நோக்கி: நம்முடைய தேவனாகிய கர்த்தரையே சேவித்து, அவர் சத்தத்திற்கே கீழ்ப்படிவோம் என்றார்கள்.

24. And the people said unto Joshua, Yahweh our God, will we serve, and, unto his voice, will we hearken.

25. அந்தப்படி யோசுவா அந்நாளில் சீகேமிலே ஜனங்களோடே உடன்படிக்கைபண்ணி, அவர்களுக்கு அதைப் பிரமாணமும் நியாயமுமாக ஏற்படுத்தினான்.

25. So then Joshua solemnised a covenant for the people, on that day, and set for them a statute and a regulation, in Shechem.

26. இந்த வார்த்தைகளை யோசுவா தேவனுடைய நியாயப்பிரமாண புஸ்தகத்தில் எழுதி, ஒரு பெரிய கல்லை எடுத்து, அதை அங்கே கர்த்தருடைய பரிசுத்த ஸ்தலத்தின் அருகில் இருந்த கர்வாலி மரத்தின்கீழ் நாட்டி,

26. And Joshua wrote these words in the scroll of the law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up there, under the oak that was by the sanctuary of Yahweh.

27. எல்லா ஜனங்களையும் நோக்கி: இதோ, இந்தக் கல் நமக்குள்ளே சாட்சியாயிருக்கக்கடவது; கர்த்தர் நம்மோடே சொன்ன எல்லா வார்த்தைகளையும் இது கேட்டது; நீங்கள் உங்கள் தேவனுக்கு விரோதமாகப் பொய்சொல்லாதபடிக்கு, இது உங்களுக்குச் சாட்சியாயிருக்கக்கடவது என்று சொல்லி,

27. And Joshua said unto all the people Lo! this stone, shall serve against us as a witness, for, it, hath heard all the sayings of Yahweh, which he hath spoken with us, so shall it serve against you as a witness, lest ye should act deceptively against your God.

28. யோசுவா ஜனங்களை அவரவர் சுதந்தரத்திற்கு அனுப்பிவிட்டான்.

28. And Joshua sent the people away, every man unto his inheritance.

29. இந்தக் காரியங்கள் நடந்தபின்பு, நூனின் குமாரனாகிய யோசுவா என்னும் கர்த்தருடைய ஊழியக்காரன் நூற்றுப்பத்து வயதுள்ளவனாய் மரணமடைந்தான்.

29. And it came to pass, after these things, that Joshua son of Nun, servant of Yahweh, died, being a hundred and ten years old.

30. அவனை எப்பிராயீமின் மலைத்தேசத்திலுள்ள காயாஸ் மலைக்கு வடக்கே இருக்கிற திம்னாத் சேரா என்னும் அவனுடைய சுதந்தரத்தின் எல்லைக்குள்ளே அடக்கம்பண்ணினார்கள்.

30. And they buried him within the bounds of his own inheritance, in Timnath-serah, which is in the hill country of Ephraim, on the north of Mount Gaash.

31. யோசுவா உயிரோடிருந்த சகல நாட்களிலும், கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேலுக்குச் செய்த அவருடைய கிரியைகள் யாவையும் அறிந்து யோசுவாவுக்குப்பின்பு வெகுநாள் உயிரோடிருந்த மூப்பருடைய சகல நாட்களிலும், இஸ்ரவேலர் கர்த்தரைச் சேவித்தார்கள்.

31. So then Israel served Yahweh all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who prolonged their days after Joshua, and who had known all the work of Yahweh, which he had wrought for Israel.

32. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் எகிப்திலேயிருந்து கொண்டுவந்த யோசேப்பின் எலும்புகளை, அவர்கள் சீகேமிலே யாக்கோபு சீகேமின் தகப்பனாகிய எமோரியருடைய புத்திரரின் கையில் நூறு வெள்ளிக்காசுக்குக் கொண்ட நிலத்தின் பங்கிலே அடக்கம்பண்ணினார்கள்; அந்த நிலம் யோசேப்பின் புத்திரருக்குச் சுதந்தரமாயிற்று.

32. And, the bones of Joseph which the sons of Israel had brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in the portion of field, which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor, father of Shechem, for a hundred pieces of money, and they belonged unto the sons of Joseph, as an inheritance.

33. ஆரோனின் குமாரனாகிய எலெயாசாரும் மரணமடைந்தான், அவன் குமாரனாகிய பினெகாசுக்கு எப்பிராயீமின் மலைத்தேசத்திலே கொடுக்கப்பட்ட மேட்டிலே அவனை அடக்கம்பண்ணினார்கள்.

33. And, Eleazar son of Aaron, died, and they buried him in the hill of Phinehas his son, which was given to him, in the hill country of Ephraim.
