1. மாறுபாடான உதடுகளுள்ள மூடனைப்பார்க்கிலும், உத்தமனாய் நடக்கிற தரித்திரனே வாசி.

2. ஆத்துமா அறிவில்லாமலிருப்பது நல்லதல்ல; கால் துரிதமானவன் தப்பி நடக்கிறான்.

3. மனுஷனுடைய மதியீனம் அவன் வழியைத் தாறுமாறாக்கும்; என்றாலும் அவன் மனம் கர்த்தருக்கு விரோதமாய்த் தாங்கலடையும்.

3. People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry at the LORD.

4. செல்வம் அநேக சிநேகிதரைச் சேர்க்கும்; தரித்திரனோ தன் சிநேகிதனாலும் நெகிழப்படுவான்.

4. Wealth makes many 'friends'; poverty drives them all away.

5. பொய்ச்சாட்சிக்காரன் ஆக்கினைக்குத் தப்பான்; பொய்களைப் பேசுகிறவனும் தப்புவதில்லை.

5. A false witness will not go unpunished, nor will a liar escape.

6. பிரபுவின் தயையை அநேகர் வருந்திக் கேட்பார்கள்; கொடைகொடுக்கிறவனுக்கு எவனும் சிநேகிதன்.

6. Many seek favors from a ruler; everyone is the friend of a person who gives gifts!

7. தரித்திரனை அவனுடைய சகோதரர் எல்லாரும் பகைக்கிறார்களே, எத்தனை அதிகமாய் அவன் சிநேகிதர் அவனுக்குத் தூரமாவார்கள்; அவர்களுடைய வார்த்தைகளை அவன் நாடுகிறான், அவைகளோ வெறும் வார்த்தைகளே.

7. The relatives of the poor despise them; how much more will their friends avoid them! Though the poor plead with them, their friends are gone.

8. ஞானத்தைப் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளுகிறவன் தன் ஆத்துமாவைச் சிநேகிக்கிறான்; புத்தியைக் காக்கிறவன் நன்மையடைவான்.

8. To acquire wisdom is to love oneself; people who cherish understanding will prosper.

9. பொய்ச்சாட்சிக்காரன் ஆக்கினைக்குத் தப்பான்; பொய்களைப் பேசுகிறவன் நாசமடைவான்.

9. A false witness will not go unpunished, and a liar will be destroyed.

10. மூடனுக்குச் செல்வம் தகாது; பிரபுக்களை ஆண்டுகொள்வது அடிமைக்கு எவ்வளவும் தகாது.

11. மனுஷனுடைய விவேகம் அவன் கோபத்தை அடக்கும்; குற்றத்தை மன்னிப்பது அவனுக்கு மகிமை.

11. Sensible people control their temper; they earn respect by overlooking wrongs.

12. ராஜாவின் கோபம் சிங்கத்தின் கெர்ச்சிப்புக்குச் சமானம்; அவனுடைய தயை புல்லின்மேல் பெய்யும் பனிபோலிருக்கும்.

12. The king's anger is like a lion's roar, but his favor is like dew on the grass.

13. மூடனாகிய மகன் தன் தகப்பனுக்கு மிகுந்த துக்கம்; மனைவியின் சண்டைகள் ஓயாத ஒழுக்கு.

13. A foolish child is a calamity to a father; a quarrelsome wife is as annoying as constant dripping.

14. வீடும் ஆஸ்தியும் பிதாக்கள் வைக்கும் சுதந்தரம்; புத்தியுள்ள மனைவியோ கர்த்தர் அருளும் ஈவு.

14. Fathers can give their sons an inheritance of houses and wealth, but only the LORD can give an understanding wife.

15. சோம்பல் தூங்கிவிழப்பண்ணும்; அசதியானவன் பட்டினியாயிருப்பான்.

15. Lazy people sleep soundly, but idleness leaves them hungry.

16. கட்டளையை காத்துக்கொள்ளுகிறவன் தன் ஆத்துமாவைக் காக்கிறான்; தன் வழிகளை அவமதிக்கிறவன் சாவான்.

16. Keep the commandments and keep your life; despising them leads to death.

17. ஏழைக்கு இரங்குகிறவன் கர்த்தருக்குக் கடன்கொடுக்கிறான்; அவன் கொடுத்ததை அவர் திரும்பக் கொடுப்பார்.

17. If you help the poor, you are lending to the LORD-- and he will repay you!

19. Hot-tempered people must pay the penalty. If you rescue them once, you will have to do it again.

20. Get all the advice and instruction you can, so you will be wise the rest of your life.

21. You can make many plans, but the LORD's purpose will prevail.

22. நன்மைசெய்ய மனுஷன் கொண்டிருக்கும் ஆசையே தயை; பொய்யனைப் பார்க்கிலும் தரித்திரன் வாசி.

22. Loyalty makes a person attractive. It is better to be poor than dishonest.

23. கர்த்தருக்குப் பயப்படுதல் ஜீவனுக்கேதுவானது; அதை அடைந்தவன் திருப்தியடைந்து நிலைத்திருப்பான்; தீமை அவனை அணுகாது.

23. Fear of the LORD leads to life, bringing security and protection from harm.

24. சோம்பேறி தன் கையைக் கலத்திலே வைத்து, அதைத் திரும்பத் தன் வாயண்டைக்கு எடுக்காமலிருக்கிறான்.

24. Lazy people take food in their hand but don't even lift it to their mouth.

25. பரியாசக்காரனை அடி, அப்பொழுது பேதை எச்சரிக்கப்படுவான்; புத்திமானைக் கடிந்துகொள், அவன் அறிவுள்ளவனாவான்.

25. If you punish a mocker, the simpleminded will learn a lesson; if you correct the wise, they will be all the wiser.

26. தன் தகப்பனைக் கொள்ளையடித்து, தன் தாயைத் துரத்திவிடுகிறவன், இலச்சையையும் அவமானத்தையும் உண்டாக்குகிற மகன்.

26. Children who mistreat their father or chase away their mother are an embarrassment and a public disgrace.

27. என் மகனே, அறிவைத் தரும் வார்த்தைகளை விட்டு விலகச்செய்யும் போதகங்களை நீ கேளாதே.

27. If you stop listening to instruction, my child, you will turn your back on knowledge.

28. A corrupt witness makes a mockery of justice; the mouth of the wicked gulps down evil.

29. பரியாசக்காரருக்கு தண்டனைகளும், மூடருடைய முதுகுக்கு அடிகளும் ஆயத்தமாயிருக்கிறது.

29. Punishment is made for mockers, and the backs of fools are made to be beaten.
