1. தாவீதின் குமாரனும் இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவுமாகிய சாலொமோனின் நீதிமொழிகள்:

1. The prouerbes of Solomon the sonne of Dauid, kyng of Israel:

2. இவைகளால் ஞானத்தையும் போதகத்தையும் அறிந்து, புத்திமதிகளை உணர்ந்து,

2. To learne wisdome and instruction, & to perceaue the wordes of vnderstandyng,

3. விவேகம், நீதி, நியாயம், நிதானம் என்பவைகளைப்பற்றிய உபதேசத்தை அடையலாம்.

3. To receaue the instruction of wisdome, iustice, iudgement, and equitie:

4. இவைகள் பேதைகளுக்கு வினாவையும், வாலிபருக்கு அறிவையும் விவேகத்தையும் கொடுக்கும்.

4. To geue wyt vnto the simple, and that the young men myght haue knowledge and vnderstandyng.

5. புத்திமான் இவைகளைக் கேட்டு, அறிவில் தேறுவான்; விவேகி நல்லாலோசனைகளை அடைந்து;

5. The wise man wyll geue eare, and wyll come by more wisdome, and he that is endued with vnderstanding shal attayne vnto [wise] counsayles.

6. நீதிமொழியையும், அதின் அர்த்தத்தையும், ஞானிகளின் வாக்கியங்களையும், அவர்கள் உரைத்த புதைபொருள்களையும் அறிந்துகொள்வான்.

6. To vnderstande a parable, and the interpretation therof, the wordes of the wise, and their darke speaches.

7. கர்த்தருக்குப் பயப்படுதலே ஞானத்தின் ஆரம்பம்; மூடர் ஞானத்தையும் போதகத்தையும் அசட்டை பண்ணுகிறார்கள்.

7. The feare of the Lorde is the begynnyng of knowledge: but fooles dispise wisdome and instruction.

8. என் மகனே, உன் தகப்பன் புத்தியைக் கேள், உன் தாயின் போதகத்தைத் தள்ளாதே.

8. My sonne, heare thy fathers doctrine, & forsake not the lawe of thy mother:

9. அவைகள் உன் சிரசுக்கு அலங்காரமான முடியும், உன் கழுத்துக்குச் சரப்பணியுமாயிருக்கும்.

9. For they shalbe an encrease of grace vnto thy head, and [as] a chayne about thy necke.

10. என் மகனே, பாவிகள் உனக்கு நயங்காட்டினாலும் நீ சம்மதியாதே.

10. My sonne, if sinners entice thee, consent not vnto them.

11. எங்களோடே வா, இரத்தஞ்சிந்தும்படி நாம் பதிவிருந்து, குற்றமற்றிருக்கிறவர்களை முகாந்தரமின்றிப் பிடிக்கும்படி ஒளித்திருப்போம்;

11. If they say, come with vs, let vs lay wayte for blood, and lurke priuily for the innocent without a cause:

12. பாதாளம் விழுங்குவதுபோல் நாம் அவர்களை உயிரோடே விழுங்குவோம்; குழியில் இறங்குகிறவர்கள் விழுங்கப்படுவதுபோல் அவர்களை முழுமையும் விழுங்குவோம்;

12. Let vs swallowe them vp lyke the graue quicke and whole, as those that go downe into the pit:

13. விலையுயர்ந்த சகலவிதப் பொருள்களையும் கண்டடைவோம்; கொள்ளைப்பொருளினால் நம்முடைய வீடுகளை நிரப்புவோம்.

13. So shall we finde all maner of costly riches, and fill our houses with spoyles:

14. எங்களோடே பங்காளியாயிரு; நம்மெல்லாருக்கும் ஒரே பை இருக்கும் என்று அவர்கள் சொல்வார்களாகில்;

14. Cast in thy lot among vs, and let vs all haue one purse.

15. என் மகனே, நீ அவர்களோடே வழிநடவாமல், உன் காலை அவர்கள் பாதைக்கு விலக்குவாயாக.

15. My sonne, walke not thou with them, refrayne thy foote from their wayes.

16. அவர்கள் கால்கள் தீங்குசெய்ய ஓடி, இரத்தஞ்சிந்தத் தீவிரிக்கிறது.

16. For their feete runne to euyll, and are hasty to shed blood.

17. எவ்வகையான பட்சியானாலும் சரி, அதின் கண்களுக்கு முன்பாக வலையை விரிப்பது விருதா.

17. But [as] in vayne, the nette is layde foorth before the birdes eyes:

18. இவர்களோ தங்கள் இரத்தத்திற்கே பதிவிருக்கிறார்கள், தங்கள் பிராணனுக்கே ஒளிவைத்திருக்கிறார்கள்.

18. So these lay wayte for the blood of them, and lye priuily for their liues.

19. பொருளாசையுள்ள எல்லாருடைய வழியும் இதுவே; இது தன்னையுடையவர்களின் உயிரை வாங்கும்.

19. Such [are] the wayes of euery one that is greedie of gayne, who taketh away the life of the owner therof.

20. ஞானமானது வெளியே நின்று கூப்பிடுகிறது, வீதிகளில் சத்தமிடுகிறது.

20. Wisdome cryeth without, and putteth foorth her voyce in the streetes:

21. அது சந்தடியுள்ள தெருக்களின் சந்திலும், ஒலிமுகவாசலிலும் நின்று கூப்பிட்டு, பட்டணத்தில் தன் வார்த்தைகளை வசனித்துச் சொல்லுகிறது:

21. She calleth before the congregation in the open gates, and sheweth her wordes through the citie, saying:

22. பேதைகளே, நீங்கள் பேதைமையை விரும்புவதும், நிந்தனைக்காரரே, நீங்கள் நிந்தனையில் பிரியப்படுவதும், மதியீனரே, நீங்கள் ஞானத்தை வெறுப்பதும், எதுவரைக்கும் இருக்கும்.

22. O ye children, howe long wyll ye loue childishnesse? howe long wyll the scorners delite in scornyng, and the vnwise hate knowledge?

23. என் கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலுக்குத் திரும்புங்கள்; இதோ, என் ஆவியை உங்களுக்கு அருளுவேன், என் வார்த்தைகளை உங்களுக்குத் தெரிவிப்பேன்.

23. O turne you at my correction: lo I wyll expresse my mynde vnto you, and make you vnderstande my wordes.

24. நான் கூப்பிட்டும், நீங்கள் கேட்கமாட்டோம் என்கிறீர்கள்; நான் என் கையை நீட்டியும் கவனிக்கிறவன் ஒருவனும் இல்லை.

24. Because I haue called, and ye refused, I haue stretched out my hande, and no man regarded:

25. என் ஆலோசனையையெல்லாம் நீங்கள் தள்ளி, என் கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலை வெறுத்தீர்கள்.

25. But all my counsels haue ye dispised, and set my correction at naught:

26. ஆகையால், நானும் உங்கள் ஆபத்துக்காலத்தில் நகைத்து, நீங்கள் பயப்படுங்காரியம் வரும்போது ஆகடியம்பண்ணுவேன்.

26. Therfore wyll I also laugh at your destruction, and mocke you, when the thyng that ye feare commeth vpon you,

27. நீங்கள் பயப்படுங்காரியம் புசல்போல் வரும்போதும், ஆபத்து சூறாவளிபோல் உங்களுக்கு நேரிடும்போதும், நெருக்கமும் இடுக்கணும் உங்கள்மேல் வரும்போதும், ஆகடியம்பண்ணுவேன்.

27. Euen when the thyng that ye be afraide of falleth in sodenly like a storme, and your miserie lyke a tempest, yea when trouble and heauinesse commeth vpon you.

28. அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் என்னை நோக்கிக் கூப்பிடுவார்கள்; நான் மறுஉத்தரவு கொடுக்கமாட்டேன்; அவர்கள் அதிகாலையிலே என்னைத் தேடுவார்கள், என்னைக் காணமாட்டார்கள்.

28. Then shall they call vpon me, but I wyll not aunswere: they shall seeke me early, but they shall not finde me:

29. அவர்கள் அறிவை வெறுத்தார்கள், கர்த்தருக்குப் பயப்படுதலைத் தெரிந்துகொள்ளாமற்போனார்கள்.

29. And that because they hated knowledge, and did not choose the feare of the Lorde,

30. என் ஆலோசனையை அவர்கள் விரும்பவில்லை; என் கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலையெல்லாம் அசட்டை பண்ணினார்கள்.

30. They woulde none of my counsayle, but dispised all my correction.

31. ஆகையால் அவர்கள் தங்கள் வழியின் பலனைப் புசிப்பார்கள்; தங்கள் யோசனைகளினால் திருப்தியடைவார்கள்.

31. Therfore shall they eate of the fruite of their owne way, and be fylled with their owne inuentions.

32. பேதைகளின் மாறுபாடு அவர்களைக் கொல்லும், மூடரின் நிர்விசாரம் அவர்களை அழிக்கும்;

32. For the turnyng away of the vnwise shall slay them, and the prosperitie of fooles shall destroy them.

33. எனக்குச் செவிகொடுக்கிறவன் எவனோ, அவன் விக்கினமின்றி வாசம்பண்ணி, ஆபத்திற்குப் பயப்படாமல் அமைதியாயிருப்பான்.

33. But whoso hearkeneth vnto me, shal dwell safely, and be sure from any feare of euyll.
