1. And there went a man of the house of Levi and took a daughter of Levi.

2. And the wife conceived and bare a son. And when she saw that it was a proper child, she hid him three months long.

4. And his sister stood afar off, to wete what would come of it.

5. And the daughter of Pharao came down to the river to wash herself, and her maidens walked along by the river's side. And when she saw the basket among the flags, she sent one of her maids and caused it to be fetched.

6. அதைத் திறந்தபோது பிள்ளையைக்கண்டாள்; பிள்ளை அழுதது; அவள் அதின்மேல் இரக்கமுற்று, இது எபிரெயர் பிள்ளைகளில் ஒன்று என்றாள்.

6. And when she had opened it she saw the child, and behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on it and said: it is one of the Hebrew's children.

7. அப்பொழுது அதின் தமக்கை பார்வோனின் குமாரத்தியை நோக்கி: உமக்கு இந்தப் பிள்ளையை வளர்க்கும்படி எபிரெய ஸ்திரீகளில் பால்கொடுக்கிற ஒருத்தியை நான் போய் உம்மிடத்தில் அழைத்துக்கொண்டு வரட்டுமா என்றாள்.

7. Then said his sister unto Pharao's daughter: shall I go and call unto thee a nurse of the Hebrew's women, to nurse the child?

8. அதற்குப் பார்வோனுடைய குமாரத்தி: அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவா என்றாள். இந்தப் பெண் போய்ப் பிள்ளையின் தாயையே அழைத்துக்கொண்டு வந்தாள்.

8. And the maid ran and called the child's mother.

9. பார்வோனுடைய குமாரத்தி அவளை நோக்கி: நீ இந்தப் பிள்ளையை எடுத்துக்கொண்டுபோய், அதை எனக்கு வளர்த்திடு, நான் உனக்குச் சம்பளம் கொடுக்கிறேன் என்றாள். அந்த ஸ்திரீ பிள்ளையை எடுத்துக்கொண்டுபோய், அதை வளர்த்தாள்.

9. Then Pharao's daughter said unto her. Take this child away and nurse it for me, and I will reward thee for thy labour. And the woman took the child and nursed it up.

10. பிள்ளை பெரிதானபோது, அவள் அதைப் பார்வோனுடைய குமாரத்தியினிடத்தில் கொண்டுபோய் விட்டாள். அவளுக்கு அவன் குமாரனானான். அவள்: அவனை ஜலத்தினின்று எடுத்தேன் என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்கு மோசே என்று பேரிட்டாள்.

10. And when the child was grown, she brought it unto Pharao's daughter, and it was made her son, and she called it Moses, because (said she) I took him out of the water.

11. And it happened in these days when Moses was waxed great, that he went out unto his brethren and looked on their burthens, and spied an Egyptian smiting one of his brethren an Hebrew.

13. And he went out another day: and behold, two Hebrews strove together. And he said unto him that did the wrong: wherefore smitest thou thine neighbour?

14. And he answered: who hath made thee a ruler or a judge over us? Intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? Then Moses feared and said: of a surety the thing is known.

15. And Pharao heard of it and went about to slay Moses: but he fled from Pharao and dwelt in the land of Madian, and he sat down by a well's side.

16. மீதியான் தேசத்து ஆசாரியனுக்கு ஏழு குமாரத்திகள் இருந்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் தங்கள் தகப்பனுடைய ஆடுகளுக்குத் தண்ணீர் காட்டும்படிக்கு அங்கே வந்து, தண்ணீர் மொண்டு, தொட்டிகளை நிரப்பினார்கள்.

16. The priest of Madian had seven daughters which came and drew water and filled the troughs, for to water their father's sheep.

17. அப்பொழுது மேய்ப்பர்கள் வந்து, அவர்களைத் துரத்தினார்கள்; மோசே எழுந்திருந்து, அவர்களுக்குத் துணை நின்று, அவர்களுடைய ஆடுகளுக்குத் தண்ணீர் காட்டினான்.

17. And the shepherds came and drove them away: But Moses stood up and helped them and watered their sheep.

18. அவர்கள் தங்கள் தகப்பனாகிய ரெகுவேலிடத்தில் வந்தபோது, அவன்: நீங்கள் இன்று இத்தனை சீக்கிரமாய் வந்தது என்ன என்று கேட்டான்.

18. And when they came to Raguel their father, he said: how happeneth it that ye are come so soon today?

19. அதற்கு அவர்கள்: எகிப்தியன் ஒருவன் மேய்ப்பரின் கைகளுக்கு எங்களைத் தப்புவித்து, எங்களுக்குத் தண்ணீர் மொண்டு கொடுத்து, ஆடுகளுக்கும் தண்ணீர் காட்டினான் என்றார்கள்.

19. And they answered: there was an Egyptian that delivered us from the shepherds, and so drew us water and watered the sheep.

20. அப்பொழுது அவன் தன் குமாரத்திகளைப் பார்த்து, அவன் எங்கே? அந்த மனிதனை நீங்கள் விட்டுவந்தது என்ன? போஜனம்பண்ணும்படிக்கு அவனை அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவாருங்கள் என்றான்.

20. And he said unto his daughters: where is he? why have ye left the man? Go call him that he may eat bread.

21. மோசே அந்த மனிதனிடத்தில் தங்கியிருக்கச் சம்மதித்தான். அவன் சிப்போராள் என்னும் தன் குமாரத்தியை மோசேக்குக் கொடுத்தான்.

21. And Moses was content to dwell with the man. And he gave Moses Zephora his daughter which bare a son,

22. அவள் ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்றாள். நான் அந்நிய தேசத்தில் பரதேசியாய் இருக்கிறேன் என்று சொல்லி, அவனுக்கு கெர்சோம் என்று பேரிட்டான்.

22. and he called him Gerson: for he said: I have been a stranger in a strange land.

23. சிலகாலம் சென்றபின், எகிப்தின் ராஜா மரித்தான். இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் அடிமைத்தனத்தினால் தவித்து, முறையிட்டுக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் அடிமைத்தனத்திலிருந்து முறையிடும் சத்தம் தேவசந்நிதியில் எட்டினது.

23. And she bare yet another son, whom he called Elieser saying: the God of my father is mine helper, and hath rid me out of the hands of Pharao. And it chanced in process of time, that the king of Egypt died, and the children of Israel sighed by the reason of labour, and cried.

24. And their complaint came up unto God from the labour. And God remembered his promise with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
