1. என் நாவினால் பாவஞ்செய்யாதபடிக்கு நான் என் வழிகளைக் காத்து, துன்மார்க்கன் எனக்கு முன்பாக இருக்குமட்டும் என் வாயைக் கடிவாளத்தால் அடக்கிவைப்பேன் என்றேன்.

1. To the Chief Musician. For Jeduthun. A Melody of David. I said, to myself, I will take heed to my ways, That I sin not with my tongue, I will put on my mouth a muzzle, So long as the lawless is before me.

2. நான் மவுனமாகி, ஊமையனாயிருந்தேன், நலமானதையும் பேசாமல் அமர்ந்திருந்தேன்; ஆனாலும் என் துக்கம் அதிகரித்தது;

2. I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, afar from happiness, But, my pain had been stirred:

3. என் இருதயம் எனக்குள்ளே அனல்கொண்டது; நான் தியானிக்கையில் அக்கினி மூண்டது; அப்பொழுது என் நாவினால் விண்ணப்பம் செய்தேன்.

3. Hot was my heart within me, While I was musing, there was kindled a fire, I spake with my tongue!

4. கர்த்தாவே, நான் எவ்வளவாய் நிலையற்றவன் என்று உணரும்படி என்முடிவையும், என் நாட்களின் அளவு இவ்வளவு என்பதையும் எனக்குத் தெரிவியும்.

4. Let me know, O Yahweh, mine end, And the measure of my days what it is, I would know how short-lived I am.

5. இதோ, என் நாட்களை நாலு விரற்கடையளவாக்கினீர்; என் ஆயுசு உமது பார்வைக்கு இல்லாதது போலிருக்கிறது; எந்த மனுஷனும் மாயையே என்பது நிச்சயம். (சேலா)

5. Lo! as hand-breadths, hast thou granted my days, and my life-time, is as nothing before thee, Surely, a mere breath, are all men, even such as stand firm. Selah.

6. வேஷமாகவே மனுஷன் திரிகிறான்; விருதாவாகவே சஞ்சலப்படுகிறான்; ஆஸ்தியைச் சேர்க்கிறான். யார் அதை வாரிக்கொள்ளுவான் என்று அறியான்.

6. Surely as a shadow, doth every man wander, Surely in vain, do they bustle about, he heapeth things up, and knoweth not who shall gather them in.

7. இப்போதும் ஆண்டவரே, நான் எதற்கு எதிர்பார்த்திருக்கிறேன்? நீரே என் நம்பிக்கை.

7. Now, therefore, for what have I waited, O My Lord? My hope, is, in thee.

8. என் மீறுதல்கள் எல்லாவற்றிலுமிருந்து என்னை விடுதலையாக்கும், மூடனுடைய நிந்தனைக்கு என்னை ஒப்புக்கொடாதேயும்.

8. From all my transgressions, rescue thou me, The reproach of the base, oh do not make me!

9. நீரே இதைச் செய்தீர் என்று நான் என் வாயைத் திறவாமல் மவுனமாயிருந்தேன்.

9. I am dumb, I cannot open my mouth, for, thou, hast done it.

10. என்னிலிருந்து உம்முடைய வாதையை எடுத்துப்போடும்; உமது கரத்தின் அடிகளால் நான் சோர்ந்து போனேன்.

10. Remove from off me thy stroke, Because of the hostility of thy hand, am, I, consumed.

11. அக்கிரமத்தினிமித்தம் நீர் மனுஷனைக் கடிந்துகொண்டு தண்டிக்கிறபோது, அவன் வடிவைப் பொட்டரிப்பைப்போல் அழியப்பண்ணுகிறீர்; நிச்சயமாக எந்த மனுஷனும் மாயையே. (சேலா)

11. When, by rebukes for iniquity, thou hast corrected a man, Then hast thou consumed, as a moth, all that was delightful within him, Surely, a breath, are all men. Selah.

12. கர்த்தாவே, என் ஜெபத்தைக் கேட்டு, என் கூப்பிடுதலுக்குச் செவிகொடும்; என் கண்ணீருக்கு மவுனமாயிராதேயும்; என் பிதாக்களெல்லாரையும்போல நானும் உமக்குமுன்பாக அந்நியனும் பரதேசியுமாயிருக்கிறேன்.

12. Hear my prayer, O Yahweh, And, unto my cry for help, give ear, At my tears, do not be silent, For, a sojourner, am, I, with thee, A stranger, like all my fathers.

13. நான் இனி இராமற்போகுமுன்னே, தேறுதலடையும்படி என்னிடத்தில் பொறுமையாயிரும்.

13. Look away from me that I may brighten up, Ere yet I depart and am no more.
