1. கர்த்தர் வீட்டைக் கட்டாராகில், அதைக் கட்டுகிறவர்களின் பிரயாசம் விருதா;

1. A Song of Ascents. Of Solomon. EXCEPT THE Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; except the Lord keeps the city, the watchman wakes but in vain. [Ps. 121:1, 3, 5.]

2. கர்த்தர் நகரத்தைக் காவாராகில் காவலாளர் விழித்திருக்கிறது விருதா.

2. It is vain for you to rise up early, to take rest late, to eat the bread of [anxious] toil--for He gives [blessings] to His beloved in sleep.

3. நீங்கள் அதிகாலையில் எழுந்து, நேரப்பட வேலையிலே தரித்து, வருத்தத்தின் அப்பத்தைச் சாப்பிடுகிறதும் விருதா; அவரே தமக்குப் பிரியமானவனுக்கு நித்திரை அளிக்கிறார்.

3. Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. [Deut. 28:4.]

4. இதோ, பிள்ளைகள் கர்த்தரால் வரும் சுதந்தரம், கர்ப்பத்தின் கனி அவரால் கிடைக்கும் பலன்.

4. As arrows are in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one's youth.

5. வாலவயதின் குமாரர் பலவான் கையிலுள்ள அம்புகளுக்கு ஒப்பாயிருக்கிறார்கள். (6) அவைகளால் தன் அம்பறாத்தூணியை நிரப்பின புருஷன் பாக்கியவான்; அவர்கள் நாணமடையாமல் ஒலிமுகவாசலில் சத்துருக்களோடே பேசுவார்கள்.

5. Happy, blessed, and fortunate is the man whose quiver is filled with them! They will not be put to shame when they speak with their adversaries [in gatherings] at the [city's] gate.
