1. சர்வவல்லவருக்குக் காலங்கள் மறைக்கப்படாதிருக்க, அவரை அறிந்தவர்கள் அவர் நியமித்த நாட்களை அறியாதிருக்கிறதென்ன?

1. Times are not hid from the Almighty: but they that know him, know not his days.

2. சிலர் எல்லைக்குறிப்புகளை ஒற்றி, மந்தைகளைப் பலாத்காரமாய்ச் சாய்த்துக்கொண்டுபோய் பட்சிக்கிறார்கள்.

2. Some have removed landmarks, have taken away flocks by force, and fed them.

3. தாய் தகப்பன் இல்லாதவர்களின் கழுதையை ஓட்டிக்கொண்டுபோய், விதவையின் மாட்டை ஈடாக எடுத்துக்கொள்ளுகிறார்கள்.

3. They have driven away the ass of the fatherless, and have taken away the widow's ox for a pledge.

4. தேசத்தில் சிறுமைப்பட்டவர்கள் ஏகமாய் ஒளித்துக்கொள்ளத்தக்கதாக, எளிமையானவர்களை வழியை விட்டு விலக்குகிறார்கள்.

4. They have overturned the way of the poor, and have oppressed together the meek of the earth.

5. இதோ, அவர்கள் காட்டுக்கழுதைகளைப்போல இரைதேட அதிகாலமே தங்கள் வேலைக்குப் புறப்படுகிறார்கள்; வனாந்தரவெளிதான் அவர்களுக்கும் அவர்கள் பிள்ளைகளுக்கும் ஆகாரம் கொடுக்கவேண்டும்.

5. Others like wild asses in the desert go forth to their work: by watching for a prey they get bread for their children.

6. துன்மார்க்கருடைய வயலில் அவர்கள் அவனுக்காக அறுப்பு அறுத்து, அவனுடைய திராட்சத்தோட்டத்தின் பழங்களைச் சேர்க்கிறார்கள்.

6. They reap the field that is not their own, and gather the vintage of his vineyard whom by violence they have oppressed.

7. குளிரிலே போர்த்துக்கொள்ளுகிறதற்கு ஒன்றும் இல்லாததினால், வஸ்திரமில்லாமல் இராத்தங்கி,

7. They send men away naked, taking away their clothes who have no covering in the cold:

8. மலைகளிலிருந்துவரும் மழைகளிலே நனைந்து, ஒதுக்கிடமில்லாததினால் கன்மலையிலே அண்டிக்கொள்ளுகிறார்கள்.

8. Who are wet, with the showers of the mountains, and having no covering embrace the stones.

9. அவர்களோ தகப்பனில்லாத பிள்ளையை முலையைவிட்டுப்பறித்து, தரித்திரன் போர்த்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறதை அடகுவாங்குகிறார்கள்.

9. They have violently robbed the fatherless, and stripped the poor common people.

10. அவனை வஸ்திரமில்லாமல் நடக்கவும், பட்டினியாய் அரிக்கட்டுகளைச் சுமக்கவும்,

10. From the naked and them that go without clothing, and from the hungry they have taken away the ears of corn.

11. தங்கள் மதில்களுக்குள்ளே செக்காட்டவும், தாகத்தவனமாய் ஆலையாட்டவும்பண்ணுகிறார்கள்.

11. They have taken their rest at noon among the stores of them, who after having trodden the winepresses suffer thirst.

12. ஊரில் மனுஷர் தவிக்கிறார்கள், குற்றுயிராய்க்கிடக்கிறவர்களின் ஆத்துமா கூப்பிடுகிறது; என்றாலும், தேவன் அதைக் குற்றமாக அவர்கள்மேல் சுமத்துகிறதில்லை.

12. Out of the cities they have made men to groan, and the soul of the wounded hath cried out, and God doth not suffer it to pass unrevenged.

13. They have been rebellious to the light, they have not known his ways, neither have they returned by his paths.

14. கொலைபாதகன் பொழுது விடிகிறபோது எழுந்து, சிறுமையும் எளிமையுமானவனைக் கொன்று, இராக்காலத்திலே திருடனைப்போல் திரிகிறான்.

14. The murderer riseth at the very break of day, he killeth the needy, and the poor man: but in the night he will be as a thief.

15. விபசாரனுடைய கண் மாலை மயங்குகிற வேளைக்குக் காத்திருந்து: என்னை ஒரு கண்ணும் காணமாட்டாதென்று முகத்தை மூடிக்கொள்ளுகிறான்.

15. The eye of the adulterer observeth darkness, saying: No eye shall see me: and he will cover his face.

16. அவர்கள் பகலில் அடையாளம் பார்த்த வீடுகளை இருட்டிலே கன்னமிடுகிறார்கள்; அவர்கள் வெளிச்சத்தை அறியார்கள்.

16. He diggeth through houses in the dark, as in the day they had appointed for themselves, and they have not known the light.

17. விடியுங்காலமும் அவர்களுக்கு மரண இருள்போல் இருக்கிறது; அப்படிப்பட்டவன் மரண இருளின் பயங்கரத்தோடு பழகியிருக்கிறான்.

17. If the morning suddenly appear, it is to them the shadow of death: and they walk in darkness as if it were in light.

18. நீரோட்டத்தைப்போல் தீவிரமாய்ப் போவான்; தேசத்தில் அவன் பங்கு சபிக்கப்பட்டுப் போகிறதினால், அவன் திராட்சத்தோட்டங்களின் வழியை இனிக்காண்பதில்லை.

18. He is light upon the face of the water: cursed be his portion on the earth, let him not walk by the way of the vineyards.

19. வறட்சியும் உஷ்ணமும் உறைந்த மழையைப் பட்சிக்கும்; அப்படியே பாதாளமானது பாவிகளைப் பட்சிக்கும்.

19. Let him pass from the snow waters to excessive heat, and his sin even to hell.

20. அவனைப் பெற்ற கர்ப்பம் அவனை மறக்கும்; புழு திருப்திகரமாய் அவனைத் தின்னும்; அவன் அப்புறம் நினைக்கப்படுவதில்லை; அக்கிரமமானது பட்டமரத்தைப்போல முறிந்துவிழும்.

20. Let mercy forget him: may worms be his sweetness: let him be remembered no more, but be broken in pieces as an unfruitful tree.

21. பிள்ளைபெறாத மலடியின் ஆஸ்தியைப் பட்சித்துவிட்டு, விதவைக்கு நன்மை செய்யாதேபோகிறான்.

21. For he hath fed the barren that beareth not, and to the widow he hath done no good.

22. தன் பலத்தினாலே வல்லவர்களைத் தன் பாரிசமாக்குகிறான்; அவன் எழும்புகிறபோது ஒருவனுக்கும் பிராணனைப்பற்றி நிச்சயமில்லை.

22. He hath pulled down the strong by his might: and when he standeth up, he shall not trust to his life.

23. தேவன் அவனுக்குச் சுகவாழ்வைக் கட்டளையிட்டால், அதின்மேல் உறுதியாய் நம்பிக்கை வைக்கிறான்; ஆனாலும் அவருடைய கண்கள் அப்படிப்பட்டவர்களின் வழிகளுக்கு விரோதமாயிருக்கிறது.

23. God hath given him place for penance, and he abuseth it unto pride: but his eyes are upon his ways.

24. அவர்கள் கொஞ்சக்காலம் உயர்ந்திருந்து, காணாமற்போய், தாழ்த்தப்பட்டு, மற்ற எல்லாரைப்போலும் அடக்கப்படுகிறார்கள்; கதிர்களின் நுனியைப்போல அறுக்கப்படுகிறார்கள்.

24. They are lifted up for a little while and shall not stand, and shall be brought down as all things, and shall be taken away, and as the tops of the ears of corn they shall be broken.

25. அப்படியில்லையென்று என்னைப் பொய்யனாக்கி, என் வார்த்தைகளை வியர்த்தமாக்கத்தக்கவன் யார் என்றான்.

25. And if it be not so, who can convince me that I have lied, and set my words before God?
