1. After these events King Ahasuerus raised Haman, son of Hammedatha the Agagite, to high rank, seating him above all his fellow officials.

2. ஆகையால் ராஜாவின் அரமனை வாசலிலிருக்கிற ராஜாவின் ஊழியக்காரர் எல்லாரும் ஆமானை வணங்கி நமஸ்கரித்து வந்தார்கள்; அவனுக்கு இப்படிச் செய்யவேண்டும் என்று ராஜா கட்டளையிட்டிருந்தான்; ஆனாலும் மொர்தெகாய் அவனை வணங்கவுமில்லை, நமஸ்கரிக்கவுமில்லை.

2. All the king's servants who were at the royal gate would kneel and bow down to Haman, for that is what the king had ordered in his regard. Mordecai, however, would not kneel and bow down.

3. அப்பொழுது ராஜாவின் அரமனை வாசலிலிருக்கிற ராஜாவின் ஊழியக்காரர் மொர்தெகாயைப் பார்த்து: நீ ராஜாவின் கட்டளையை மீறுகிறது என்ன என்று கேட்டார்கள்.

3. The king's servants who were at the royal gate said to Mordecai, 'Why do you disobey the king's order?'

4. இப்படி அவர்கள் நாளுக்குநாள் அவனுடனே சொல்லியும், அவன் தங்களுக்குச் செவிகொடாதபோது, தான் யூதன் என்று அவன் அவர்களுக்கு அறிவித்திருந்தபடியால், மொர்தெகாயின் சொற்கள் நிலைநிற்குமோ என்று பார்க்கிறதற்கு, அதை ஆமானுக்கு அறிவித்தார்கள்.

4. When they had reminded him day after day and he would not listen to them, they informed Haman, to see whether Mordecai's explanation was acceptable, since he had told them that he was a Jew.

5. ஆமான் மொர்தெகாய் தன்னை வணங்கி நமஸ்கரியாததைக் கண்டபோது, மூர்க்கம் நிறைந்தவனானான்.

5. When Haman observed that Mordecai would not kneel and bow down to him, he was filled with anger.

6. ஆனாலும் மொர்தெகாயின்மேல் மாத்திரம் கைபோடுவது அவனுக்கு அற்பக்காரியமாகக் கண்டது; மொர்தெகாயின் ஜனங்கள் இன்னாரென்று ஆமானுக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தபடியால், அகாஸ்வேருவின் ராஜ்யமெங்கும் இருக்கிற மொர்தெகாயின் ஜனமாகிய யூதரையெல்லாம் சங்கரிக்க அவன் வகைதேடினான்.

6. Moreover, he thought it was not enough to lay hands on Mordecai alone. Since they had told Haman of Mordecai's nationality, he sought to destroy all the Jews, Mordecai's people, throughout the realm of King Ahasuerus.

7. ராஜாவாகிய அகாஸ்வேருவின் பன்னிரண்டாம் வருஷம் நிசான் மாதமாகிய முதலாம் மாதத்திலே ஆமானுக்கு முன்பாகப் பூர் என்னப்பட்ட சீட்டு ஒவ்வொரு நாளையும் ஒவ்வொரு மாதத்தையும் குறித்துப் போடப்பட்டு, ஆதார் மாதமான பன்னிரண்டாம் மாதத்தின்மேல் விழுந்தது.

7. In the first month, Nisan, in the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus, the pur, or lot, was cast in Haman's presence to determine the day and the month for the destruction of Mordecai's people on a single day, and the lot fell on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, Adar.

8. அப்பொழுது ஆமான் அகாஸ்வேரு ராஜாவை நோக்கி: உம்முடைய ராஜ்யத்தின் சகல நாடுகளிலுமுள்ள ஜனங்களுக்குள்ளே ஒருவித ஜனங்கள் சிதறுண்டு பரம்பியிருக்கிறார்கள்; அவர்களுடைய வழக்கங்கள் சகல ஜனங்களுடைய வழக்கங்களுக்கும் விகற்பமாயிருக்கிறது; அவர்கள் ராஜாவின் சட்டங்களைக் கைக்கொள்ளுகிறதில்லை; ஆகையால் அவர்களை இப்படி விட்டிருக்கிறது ராஜாவுக்கு நியாயமல்ல.

8. Then Haman said to King Ahasuerus: 'Dispersed among the nations throughout the provinces of your kingdom, there is a certain people living apart, with laws differing from those of every other people. They do not obey the laws of the king, and so it is not proper for the king to tolerate them.

9. ராஜாவுக்கு சம்மதியானால், அவர்களை அழிக்கவேண்டுமென்று எழுதி அனுப்பவேண்டியது; அப்பொழுது நான் ராஜாவின் கஜானாவிலே கொண்டுவந்து செலுத்த பதினாயிரம் தாலந்து வெள்ளியை எண்ணிக் காரியக்காரர் கையில் கொடுப்பேன் என்றான்.

9. If it please the king, let a decree be issued to destroy them; and I will deliver to the procurators ten thousand silver talents for deposit in the royal treasury.'

10. அப்பொழுது ராஜா தன் கையிலிருக்கிற தன் மோதிரத்தைக் கழற்றி, அதை ஆகாகியனான அம்மெதாத்தாவின் குமாரனும் யூதரின் சத்துருவுமாகிய ஆமானிடத்தில் கொடுத்து,

10. The king took the signet ring from his hand and gave it to Haman, son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the enemy of the Jews.

11. ஆமானை நோக்கி: அந்த வெள்ளியை நீ வைத்துக்கொள்; அந்த ஜனத்துக்கு உன் இஷ்டப்படி செய்யலாம் என்றான்.

11. 'The silver you may keep,' the king said to Haman, 'but as for this people, do with them whatever you please.'

12. முதலாம் மாதம் பதின்மூன்றாந்தேதியிலே, ராஜாவின் சம்பிரதிகள் அழைக்கப்பட்டார்கள்; ஆமான் கற்பித்தபடியெல்லாம் ராஜாவின் தேசாதிபதிகளுக்கும், ஒவ்வொரு நாட்டின்மேல் வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த துரைகளுக்கும், ஒவ்வொரு ஜனத்தின் பிரபுக்களுக்கும், அந்தந்த நாட்டில் வழங்கும் அட்சரத்திலும், அந்தந்த ஜாதியார் பேசும் பாஷையிலும் எழுதப்பட்டது; ராஜாவாகிய அகாஸ்வேருவின் பேரால் அது எழுதப்பட்டு, ராஜாவின் மோதிரத்தினால் முத்திரை போடப்பட்டது.

12. So the royal scribes were summoned; and on the thirteenth day of the first month they wrote, at the dictation of Haman, an order to the royal satraps, the governors of every province, and the officials of every people, to each province in its own script and to each people in its own language. It was written in the name of King Ahasuerus and sealed with the royal signet ring.

13. ஆதார் மாதமான பன்னிரண்டாம் மாதம் பதின்மூன்றாந் தேதியாகிய ஒரேநாளிலே சிறியோர் பெரியோர் குழந்தைகள் ஸ்திரீகள் ஆகிய சகல யூதரையும் அழித்துக் கொன்று நிர்மூலமாக்கவும், அவர்களைக் கொள்ளையிடவும், அஞ்சற்காரர் கையிலே ராஜாவின் நாடுகளுக்கெல்லாம் கட்டளைகள் அனுப்பப்பட்டது.

13. Letters were sent by couriers to all the royal provinces, that all the Jews, young and old, including women and children, should be killed, destroyed, wiped out in one day, the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, Adar, and that their goods should be seized as spoil. (B:1) This is a copy of the letter: 'The great King Ahasuerus writes to the satraps of the hundred and twenty-seven provinces from India to Ethiopia, and the governors subordinate to them, as follows: (B:2) When I came to rule many peoples and to hold sway over the whole world, I determined not to be carried away with the sense of power, but always to deal fairly and with clemency; to provide for my subjects a life of complete tranquillity; and by making my government humane and effective as far as the borders, to restore the peace desired by all men. (B:3) When I consulted my counselors as to how this might be accomplished, Haman, who excels among us in wisdom, who is outstanding for constant devotion and steadfast loyalty, and who has gained the second rank in the kingdom, (B:4) brought it to our attention that, mixed in with all the races throughout the world, there is one people of bad will, which by its laws is opposed to every other people and continually disregards the decrees of kings, so that the unity of empire blamelessly designed by us cannot be established. (B:5) 'Having noted, therefore, that this most singular people is continually at variance with all men, lives by divergent and alien laws, is inimical to our interests, and commits the worst crimes, so that stability of government cannot be obtained, (B:6) we hereby decree that all those who are indicated to you in the letters of Haman, who is in charge of the administration and is a second father to us, shall, together with their wives and children, be utterly destroyed by the swords of their enemies, without any pity or mercy, on the fourteenth day of the twelfth month, Adar, of the current year; (B:7) so that when these people, whose present ill will is of long standing, have gone down into the nether world by a violent death on a single day, they may at last leave our affairs stable and undisturbed for the future.'

14. அந்த நாளுக்கு ஆயத்தப்பட்டிருக்கவேண்டும் என்று சகல ஜனங்களுக்கும் கூறி அறிவிக்கிறதற்காகக் கொடுக்கப்பட்ட கட்டளையின் நகல் இதுவே, இது ஒவ்வொரு நாட்டிலும் பிரசித்தம் பண்ணப்பட்டது.

14. A copy of the decree to be promulgated as law in every province was published to all the peoples, that they might be prepared for that day.

15. அந்த அஞ்சற்காரர் ராஜாவின் உத்தரவினால் தீவிரமாய்ப் புறப்பட்டுப்போனார்கள்; அந்தக் கட்டளை சூசான் அரமனையில் பிறந்தது. ராஜாவும் ஆமானும் குடிக்கும்படி உட்கார்ந்தார்கள்; சூசான் நகரம் கலங்கிற்று.

15. The couriers set out in haste at the king's command; meanwhile, the decree was promulgated in the stronghold of Susa. The king and Haman then sat down to feast, but the city of Susa was thrown into confusion.
