1. Now the sons of the men who tell what will happen in the future said to Elisha, 'See, the place where we are living under your care is too small for us.

2. Let us go to the Jordan and each of us cut down a tree there. And let us make a place for us to live there.' So Elisha said, 'Go.'

3. Then one of them said, 'Be pleased to go with your servants.' And Elisha answered, 'I will go.'

4. So he went with them. When they came to the Jordan, they cut down trees.

5. ஒருவன் ஒரு உத்திரத்தை வெட்டி விழுத்துகையில் கோடரி தண்ணீரில் விழுந்தது; அவன்: ஐயோ என் ஆண்டவனே, அது இரவலாக வாங்கப்பட்டதே என்று கூவினான்.

5. But as one of them was cutting a tree, the ax head fell into the water. The man cried out, 'It is bad, sir! The ax belongs to another man, and I was to return it.'

6. தேவனுடைய மனுஷன் அது எங்கே விழுந்தது என்று கேட்டான்; அவன் அந்த இடத்தைக் காண்பித்தபோது, ஒரு கொம்பை வெட்டி, அதை அங்கே எறிந்து, அந்த இரும்பை மிதக்கப்பண்ணி,

6. The man of God said, 'Where did it fall?' And when he showed him the place, Elisha cut off a stick and threw it in, and the iron came to the top of the water.

7. He said, 'Pick it up.' So his servant put out his hand and took it.

8. Now the king of Syria was fighting a war against Israel. He had a meeting with his servants, and said, 'This is the place where I will be staying.'

9. ஆகிலும் தேவனுடைய மனுஷன் இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவினிடத்தில் ஆள் அனுப்பி: இன்ன இடத்துக்குப் போகாதபடிக்கு எச்சரிக்கையாயிரும்; சீரியர் அங்கே இறங்குவார்கள் என்று சொல்லச்சொன்னான்.

9. The man of God sent news to the king of Israel, saying, 'Be careful that you do not pass this place. For the Syrians are coming down there.'

10. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா தேவனுடைய மனுஷன் தன்னை எச்சரித்து, தனக்குக் குறித்துச்சொன்ன ஸ்தலத்திற்கு மனுஷரை அனுப்பிப்பார்த்து எச்சரிக்கையாயிருந்து, இப்படி அநேகந்தரம் தன்னைக் காத்துக்கொண்டான்.

10. The king of Israel sent men to the place where the man of God said there would be danger. So he saved himself there more than once or twice.

11. இந்தக் காரியத்தினிமித்தம் சீரிய ராஜாவின் இருதயம் குழம்பி, அவன் தன் ஊழியக்காரரை அழைத்து: நம்முடையவர்களில் இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவுக்கு உளவாயிருக்கிறவன் யார் என்று நீங்கள் எனக்கு அறிவிக்கமாட்டீர்களா என்று கேட்டான்.

11. The heart of the king of Syria was angry because of this. He called his servants and said to them, 'Will you show me which one of us is helping the king of Israel?'

12. அப்பொழுது அவன் ஊழியக்காரரில் ஒருவன்: அப்படியில்லை; என் ஆண்டவனாகிய ராஜாவே, நீர் உம்முடைய பள்ளி அறையிலே பேசுகிற வார்த்தைகளையும் இஸ்ரவேலிலிருக்கிற தீர்க்கதரிசியாகிய எலிசா இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவுக்கு அறிவிப்பான் என்றான்.

12. And one of his servants said, 'None, my lord, O king. Elisha, the man of God who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the very words you say in your bedroom.'

13. அப்பொழுது அவன்: நான் மனுஷரை அனுப்பி அவனைப் பிடிக்கும்படி, நீங்கள் போய் அவன் எங்கே இருக்கிறான் என்று பாருங்கள் என்றான்; அவன் தோத்தானில் இருக்கிறான் என்று அவனுக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது.

13. So he said, 'Go and see where Elisha is, that I may send men to take him.' And he was told, 'See, he is in Dothan.'

14. அப்பொழுது அவன் அங்கே குதிரைகளையும் இரதங்களையும் பலத்த இராணுவத்தையும் அனுப்பினான்; அவர்கள் இராக்காலத்திலே வந்து பட்டணத்தை வளைந்துகொண்டார்கள்.

14. So the king of Syria sent horses and war-wagons and an army of many soldiers there. They came during the night and gathered around the city.

15. தேவனுடைய மனுஷனின் வேலைக்காரன் அதிகாலமே எழுந்து வெளியே புறப்படுகையில், இதோ, இராணுவமும் குதிரைகளும் இரதங்களும் பட்டணத்தைச் சுற்றிக்கொண்டிருக்கக் கண்டான்; அப்பொழுது வேலைக்காரன் அவனை நோக்கி: ஐயோ, என் ஆண்டவனே, என்னசெய்வோம் என்றான்.

15. The servant of the man of God got up early and went out. And he saw an army with horses and warwagons around the city. The servant said to Elisha, 'It is bad, sir! What should we do?'

16. அதற்கு அவன்: பயப்படாதே; அவர்களோடிருக்கிறவர்களைப்பார்க்கிலும் நம்மோடிருக்கிறவர்கள் அதிகம் என்றான்.

16. He answered, 'Do not be afraid. For those who are with us are more than those who are with them.'

17. அப்பொழுது எலிசா விண்ணப்பம்பண்ணி: கர்த்தாவே, இவன் பார்க்கும்படி இவன் கண்களைத் திறந்தருளும் என்றான்; உடனே கர்த்தர் அந்த வேலைக்காரன் கண்களைத் திறந்தார்; இதோ, எலிசாவைச்சுற்றிலும் அக்கினிமயமான குதிரைகளாலும் இரதங்களாலும் அந்த மலை நிறைந்திருக்கிறதை அவன் கண்டான்.

17. Then Elisha prayed and said, 'O Lord, I pray, open his eyes, that he may see.' And the Lord opened the servant's eyes, and he saw. He saw that the mountain was full of horses and war-wagons of fire all around Elisha.

18. அவர்கள் அவனிடத்தில் வருகையில், எலிசா கர்த்தரை நோக்கி விண்ணப்பம்பண்ணி: இந்த ஜனங்களுக்குக் கண்மயக்கம் உண்டாகும்படி செய்யும் என்றான்; எலிசாவுடைய வார்த்தையின்படியே அவர்களுக்குக் கண்மயக்கம் உண்டாகும்படி செய்தார்.

18. When the Syrians came against him, Elisha prayed to the Lord, saying, 'Make these people blind, I pray.' So the Lord made them blind, as Elisha had said.

19. அப்பொழுது எலிசா அவர்களை நோக்கி: இது வழி அல்ல; இது பட்டணமும் அல்ல; என் பிறகே வாருங்கள்; நீங்கள் தேடுகிற மனுஷனிடத்தில் நான் உங்களை வழிநடத்துவேன் என்று சொல்லி, அவர்களைச் சமாரியாவுக்கு அழைத்துக் கொண்டுபோனான்.

19. Then Elisha said to them, 'This is not the way. This is not the city. Follow me and I will bring you to the man you are looking for.' And he brought them to Samaria.

20. அவர்கள் சமாரியாவில் வந்தபோது, எலிசா: கர்த்தாவே, இவர்கள் பார்க்கும்படிக்கு இவர்கள் கண்களைத் திறந்தருளும் என்றான்; பார்க்கும்படிக்குக் கர்த்தர் அவர்கள் கண்களைத் திறக்கும்போது, இதோ, இவர்கள் சமாரியாவின் நடுவே இருந்தார்கள்.

20. When they had come to Samaria, Elisha said, 'O Lord, open the eyes of these men. Let them see.' So the Lord opened their eyes, and they saw. They saw they were in the center of Samaria.

21. இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா அவர்களைக் கண்டபோது, எலிசாவைப் பார்த்து: என் தகப்பனே, நான் அவர்களை வெட்டிப்போடலாமா என்று கேட்டான்.

21. When the king of Israel saw them, he said to Elisha, 'My father, should I kill them? Should I kill them?'

22. அதற்கு அவன்: நீர் வெட்டவேண்டாம்; நீர் உம்முடைய பட்டயத்தாலும், உம்முடைய வில்லினாலும் சிறையாக்கிக்கொண்டவர்களை வெட்டுகிறீரோ? இவர்கள் புசித்துக் குடித்து, தங்கள் ஆண்டவனிடத்துக்குப் போகும்படிக்கு, அப்பமும் தண்ணீரும் அவர்களுக்கெதிரில் வையும் என்றான்.

22. He answered, 'Do not kill them. Would you kill those you have taken against their will with your sword and bow? Give them bread and water. Let them eat and drink and return to their owner.'

23. அப்பொழுது அவர்களுக்குப் பெரிய விருந்துபண்ணி, அவர்கள் புசித்துக்குடித்தபின்பு, அவர்களை அனுப்பிவிட்டான்; அவர்கள் தங்கள் ஆண்டவனிடத்துக்குப் போய்விட்டார்கள்; சீரியரின் தண்டுகள் இஸ்ரவேல் தேசத்திலே அப்புறம் வரவில்லை.

23. So he made a big supper for them. When they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away. And they went to their owner. The Syrians sent no more small groups of soldiers into the land of Israel.

24. இதற்குப்பின்பு சீரியாவின் ராஜாவாகிய பெனாதாத் தன் இராணுவத்தையெல்லாம் கூட்டிக்கொண்டுவந்து சமாரியாவை முற்றிக்கைபோட்டான்.

24. After this, Ben-hadad the king of Syria gathered all his army and went up against Samaria.

25. அதினால் சமாரியாவிலே கொடிய பஞ்சமுண்டாயிற்று; ஒரு கழுதைத் தலை எண்பது வெள்ளிக்காசுக்கும், புறாக்களுக்குப் போடுகிற காற்படி பயறு ஐந்து வெள்ளிக்காசுக்கும் விற்கப்படுமட்டும் அதை முற்றிக்கைபோட்டார்கள்.

25. There was a time of no food in Samaria. The Syrian army gathered around it, until a donkey's head sold for eighty pieces of silver. A half cup of dove's waste sold for five pieces of silver.

26. இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா அலங்கத்தின்மேல் நடந்துபோகையில், ஒரு ஸ்திரீ அவனைப்பார்த்துக் கூப்பிட்டு, ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனே, இரட்சியும் என்றாள்.

26. As the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried out to him, 'Help, my lord, O king!'

27. அதற்கு அவன்: கர்த்தர் உன்னை இரட்சிக்காதிருந்தால் நான் எதிலிருந்து எடுத்து உன்னை இரட்சிக்கலாம்? களஞ்சியத்திலிருந்தா, ஆலையிலிருந்தா என்று சொல்லி,

27. And he said, 'If the Lord does not help you, from where can I help you? From the grain-floor, or from the grape-crusher?'

28. ராஜா பின்னையும் அவளைப் பார்த்து: உனக்கு என்னவேண்டும் என்று கேட்டான். அதற்கு அவள்: இந்த ஸ்திரீ என்னை நோக்கி: உன் மகனைத் தா, அவனை இன்று தின்போம்; நாளைக்கு என் மகனைத் தின்போம் என்றாள்.

28. Then the king said to her, 'What is your trouble?' And she answered, 'This woman said to me, 'Give your son, so we may eat him today. And we will eat my son tomorrow.'

29. அப்படியே என் மகனை ஆக்கித் தின்றோம்; மறுநாளில் நான் இவளை நோக்கி: நாம் உன் மகனைத் தின்ன அவனைத் தா என்றேன்; அவள் தன் மகனை ஒளித்து விட்டாள் என்றாள்.

29. So we made my son ready to eat over the fire, and ate him. The next day I said to her, 'Give your son, so we may eat him.' But she has hidden her son.'

30. அந்த ஸ்திரீயின் வார்த்தைகளை ராஜா கேட்டவுடனே, அலங்கத்தின்மேல் நடந்துபோகிற அவன் தன் வஸ்திரங்களைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்டான்; அவன் உள்ளே தன் சரீரத்தின்மேல் இரட்டு உடுத்தியிருக்கிறதை ஜனங்கள் கண்டார்கள்.

30. When the king heard the words of the woman, he tore his clothes. He was passing by on the wall, and the people looked. They saw that he wore cloth made from hair under his clothes.

31. அவன்: சாப்பாத்தின் குமாரனாகிய எலிசாவின் தலை இன்றைக்கு அவன்மேல் இருந்தால், தேவன் அதற்குச் சரியாகவும் அதற்கு அதிகமாகவும் எனக்குச் செய்யக்கடவர் என்று சொன்னான்.

31. Then he said, 'May God do so to me and more also, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat stays on him today.'

32. எலிசா தன் வீட்டில் உட்கார்ந்திருந்தான்; மூப்பரும் அவனோடு உட்கார்ந்திருந்தார்கள். அப்பொழுது ராஜா: ஒரு மனுஷனைத் தனக்கு முன்னே அனுப்பினான்; இந்த ஆள் எலிசாவினிடத்துக்கு வருமுன்னே, அவன் அந்த மூப்பரை நோக்கி: என் தலையை வாங்க, அந்தக் கொலைபாதகனுடைய மகன் ஆள் அனுப்பினான்; பார்த்தீர்களா? அந்த ஆள் வரும்போது, நீங்கள் அவனை உள்ளே வரவொட்டாமல் கதவைப் பூட்டிப்போடுங்கள்; அவனுக்குப் பின்னாக அவன் ஆண்டவனுடைய காலின் சத்தம் கேட்கிறது அல்லவா என்றான்.

32. Now Elisha was sitting in his house. And the leaders were sitting with him. The king sent a man, but before the man came to him, Elisha said to the leaders, 'Do you see how this son of a killer has sent to take off my head? See, when the king's man comes, shut the door. Hold the door shut against him. Is not the sound of his owner's feet behind him?'

33. அவர்களோடே அவன் பேசிக்கொண்டிருக்கையில், அந்த ஆள் அவனிடத்தில் வந்து: இதோ, இந்தப் பொல்லாப்பு கர்த்தரால் உண்டானது; நான் இனிக் கர்த்தருக்காகக் காத்திருக்க வேண்டியது என்ன என்று ராஜா சொல்லுகிறார் என்றான்.

33. While he was still talking with them, the king came down to him and said, 'See, this trouble is from the Lord. Why should I wait for the Lord any longer?'
