1. யூதாவின் ராஜாவாகிய யோசபாத்தின் பதினெட்டாம் வருஷத்தில் ஆகாபின் குமாரனாகிய யோராம் சமாரியாவிலே இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் ராஜாவாகிப் பன்னிரண்டு வருஷம் ராஜ்யபாரம்பண்ணி,

1. Ahab's son Jehoram became the king of Israel at Samaria in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah. He ruled for twelve years.

2. கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்குப் பொல்லாப்பானதைச் செய்தான்; ஆனாலும் தன் தகப்பனைப்போலும் தன் தாயைப்போலும் அல்ல; தன் தகப்பன் பண்ணுவித்த பாகாலின் சிலையை அகற்றிவிட்டான்.

2. Jehoram did what was bad in the eyes of the Lord, but not like his father and mother. For he put away the object of Baal which his father had made.

3. என்றாலும் இஸ்ரவேலைப் பாவஞ் செய்யப்பண்ணின நேபாத்தின் குமாரனாகிய யெரொபெயாமின் பாவங்களை அவன் விட்டு நீங்காமல் அவைகளிலே சிக்கிக்கொண்டிருந்தான்.

3. But he held on to the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel sin. He did not leave them.

4. மோவாபின் ராஜாவாகிய மேசா ஆடுமாடுகள் பெருத்தவனாயிருந்து, இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவுக்கு இலட்சம் ஆட்டுக்குட்டிகளையும், இலட்சம் குறும்பாட்டுக்குட்டிகளையும் செலுத்திவந்தான்.

4. Now Mesha king of Moab raised sheep. He had to pay the king of Israel 100,000 lambs and the wool of 100,000 rams each year.

5. ஆகாப் இறந்துபோனபின் மோவாபின் ராஜா இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவுக்கு விரோதமாய்க் கலகம் பண்ணினான்.

5. But when Ahab died, the king of Moab turned against the king of Israel.

6. அக்காலத்திலே யோராம் என்னும் ராஜா சமாரியாவிலிருந்து புறப்பட்டு, இஸ்ரவேலையெல்லாம் இலக்கம் பார்த்துப்போய்:

6. So King Jehoram went out of Samaria at that time and called all Israel together.

7. மோவாபின் ராஜா எனக்கு விரோதமாய்க் கலகம்பண்ணினான்; மோவாபியர்மேல் யுத்தம்பண்ண, என்னோடேகூட வருகிறீரா என்று யூதாவின் ராஜாவாகிய யோசபாத்தைக் கேட்டனுப்பினதற்கு; அவன் நான் வருகிறேன்; நான்தான், நீர், என்னுடைய ஜனங்கள் உம்முடைய ஜனங்கள், என்னுடைய குதிரைகள் உம்முடைய குதிரைகள் என்றான்.

7. Then he went and sent word to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, 'The king of Moab has turned against me. Will you go with me to fight against Moab?' And Jehoshaphat said, 'I will go. I am as you are. My people are as your people. My horses are as your horses.'

8. எந்த வழியாய்ப் போவோம் என்று கேட்டான்; அதற்கு அவன்: ஏதோம் வனாந்தரவழியாய் என்றான்.

8. Then he said, 'Which way should we go?' And he answered, 'By the way of the desert of Edom.'

9. அப்படியே இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவும் யூதாவின் ராஜாவும் ஏதோமின் ராஜாவும் சேர்ந்து போனார்கள்; ஆனாலும் அவர்கள் ஏழுநாள் சுற்றித்திரிந்தபோது, அவர்களைப் பின்செல்லுகிற இராணுவத்துக்கும் மிருகஜீவன்களுக்கும் தண்ணீர் இல்லாமற்போயிற்று.

9. So the king of Israel went with the king of Judah and the king of Edom. They traveled around for seven days, but there was no water for the army or the cattle that followed them.

10. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா: ஐயோ, இந்த மூன்று ராஜாக்களையும் கர்த்தர் மோவாபியரின் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுக்க வரவழைத்தாரே என்றான்.

10. The king of Israel said, 'It is bad! For the Lord has called these three kings to give them into the hand of Moab.'

11. அப்பொழுது யோசபாத்: நாம் கர்த்தரிடத்தில் விசாரிக்கும்படி கர்த்தருடைய தீர்க்கதரிசி ஒருவரும் இங்கே இல்லையா என்று கேட்டதற்கு, எலியாவின் கைகளுக்குத் தண்ணீர் வார்த்த சாப்பாத்தின் குமாரனாகிய எலிசா இங்கே இருக்கிறான் என்று இஸ்ரவேல் ராஜாவின் ஊழியக்காரரில் ஒருவன் மறுமொழியாகச் சொன்னான்.

11. But Jehoshaphat said, 'Is there not a man who speaks for God here? Is there no one we can ask to learn what the Lord would have us do?' One of the servants of the king of Israel answered, 'Elisha the son of Shaphat is here. He poured water on the hands of Elijah.'

12. அப்பொழுது யோசபாத் அவனை நோக்கி: கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தை அவனிடத்தில் இருக்கிறது என்றான்; இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவும் யோசபாத்தும் ஏதோமின் ராஜாவும் அவனிடத்தில் போனார்கள்.

12. And Jehoshaphat said, 'The word of the Lord is with him.' So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.

13. எலிசா இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவைப் பார்த்து: எனக்கும் உமக்கும் என்ன? நீர் உம்முடைய தகப்பனின் தீர்க்கதரிசிகளிடத்திலும், உம்முடைய தாயாரின் தீர்க்கதரிசிகளிடத்திலும் போம் என்றான்; அதற்கு இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா: அப்படியல்ல, கர்த்தர் இந்த மூன்று ராஜாக்களையும் மோவாபியரின் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுக்கிறதற்கு வரவழைத்தார் என்றான்.

13. Elisha said to the king of Israel, 'What have I to do with you? Go to the men who tell what will happen in the future that your father and mother have gone to.' And the king of Israel said to him, 'No. It is the Lord Who has called these three kings together to give them into the hand of Moab.'

14. அதற்கு எலிசா: நான் யூதாவின் ராஜாவாகிய யோசபாத்தின் முகத்தைப் பாராதிருந்தால் நான் உம்மை நோக்கவுமாட்டேன், உம்மைப் பார்க்கவுமாட்டேன் என்று சேனைகளுடைய கர்த்தருக்கு முன் நிற்கிற நான் அவருடைய ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன்.

14. Elisha said, 'As the Lord of all lives, before Whom I stand, if I did not care for Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look at you or see you.

15. இப்போதும் ஒரு சுரமண்டல வாத்தியக்காரனை என்னிடத்தில் கொண்டுவாருங்கள் என்றான்; சுரமண்டல வாத்தியக்காரன் வந்து வாசித்தபோது கர்த்தருடைய கரம் அவன்மேல் இறங்கி,

15. But now bring me a man who plays music.' And when the man played music, the power of the Lord came upon Elisha.

16. அவன்: கர்த்தர் உரைக்கிறது என்னவென்றால், இந்தப் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே எங்கும் வாய்க்கால்களை வெட்டுங்கள்.

16. He said, 'This is what the Lord says, 'Make this valley full of ditches.'

17. நீங்கள் காற்றையும் காணமாட்டீர்கள், மழையையும் காணமாட்டீர்கள்; ஆனாலும் நீங்களும் உங்கள் ஆடுமாடுகளும் உங்கள் மிருகஜீவன்களும் குடிக்கும்படிக்கு, இந்தப் பள்ளத்தாக்கு தண்ணீரால் நிரப்பப்படும் என்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார்.

17. For the Lord says, 'You will not see wind or rain. But that valley will be filled with water so that you and your cattle and your animals will drink.'

18. இது கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்கு அற்பகாரியம்; மோவாபியரையும் உங்கள் கையிலே ஒப்புக்கொடுப்பார்.

18. This is only a small thing in the eyes of the Lord. He will give you the Moabites also.

19. நீங்கள் சகல கோட்டைகளையும் சகல சிறந்த பட்டணங்களையும் தகர்த்து நல்ல மரங்களையெல்லாம் வெட்டி, நீரூற்றுகளையெல்லாம் தூர்த்து, நல்ல நிலத்தையெல்லாம் கல்மேடுகளாக்கிக் கெடுப்பீர்கள் என்றான்.

19. Then you will destroy every strong city and cut down every good tree. You will close all the wells of water, and destroy every good piece of land with stones.'

20. மறுநாள் காலமே பலிசெலுத்தப்படும் நேரத்தில், இதோ, தண்ணீர் ஏதோம் தேசவழியாய் வந்ததினால் தேசம் தண்ணீரால் நிரம்பிற்று.

20. The next morning, about the time when the gift is given on the altar, water came by the way of Edom. The country was filled with water.

21. Now all the Moabites heard that the kings had come up to fight against them. All who were able to wear battle-clothes, young and old, were called together. And they stood at the side of the land of Moab.

22. மோவாபியர் அதிகாலமே எழுந்தபோது சூரியன் தண்ணீரின்மேல் பிரகாசித்ததினால் அந்தத் தண்ணீர் அவர்களுக்கு இரத்தம்போல் சிவப்பாய்க் காணப்பட்டது.

22. They got up early in the morning. The sun was shining on the water. And the Moabites saw that the water beside them was as red as blood.

23. அதினால் அவர்கள்: இது இரத்தம், அந்த ராஜாக்கள் தங்களைத் தாங்களே ஒருவரை ஒருவர் வெட்டிக்கொண்டு மாண்டுபோனார்கள்; ஆதலால் மோவாபியரே, கொள்ளைக்கு வாருங்கள் என்று சொன்னார்கள்.

23. They said, 'This is blood. For sure the kings have fought and killed one another. So now, Moab, let us take what is left!'

24. அவர்கள் இஸ்ரவேலின் பாளயத்திற்கு வந்தபோதோவெனில், இஸ்ரவேலர் எழும்பி, மோவாபியரைத் தங்களுக்கு முன்பாக ஓடிப்போகத்தக்கதாய் முறிய அடித்து, அவர்கள் தேசத்திற்குள் புகுந்து, அங்கேயும் மோவாயியரை முறிய அடித்து,

24. But when they came to the tents of Israel, the Israelites came and fought against the Moabites. The Moabites ran from them. And Israel went on into the land, killing the Moabites.

25. பட்டணங்களை இடித்து, சகல நல்ல நிலத்திலும் கல்லெறிந்து நிரப்பி, நீரூற்றுகளையெல்லாம் தூர்த்து, நல்ல மரங்களையெல்லாம் வெட்டிப்போட்டார்கள்; கிராரேசேத்திலேமாத்திரம் அதின் மதில்கள் இன்னும் இடிபடாதிருக்கிறபோது; கவண்காரர் அதைச் சுற்றிக்கொண்டு அதையும் சேதமாக்கினார்கள்.

25. So they destroyed the cities. Each man threw a stone on every piece of good land until it was covered. They closed all the wells of water and cut down all the good trees. Only the stones of Kir-hareseth were left standing. But the stone-throwers went around it and fought against it.

26. யுத்தம் மும்முரமாகிறதென்று மோவாபியரின் ராஜா கண்டபோது, அவன் ஏதோமின் ராஜாவின்மேல் வலுமையாய் விழுகிறதற்குப் பட்டயம் உருவுகிற எழுநூறுபேரைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டுபோனான்; ஆனாலும் அவர்களாலே கூடாமற்போயிற்று.

26. The king of Moab saw that the battle was too hard for him. So he took with him 700 men who used the sword, to break through to the king of Edom. But they could not.

27. அப்பொழுது அவன் தன் ஸ்தானத்தில் ராஜாவாகப்போகிற தன் சேஷ்டபுத்திரனைப் பிடித்து, அலங்கத்தின்மேல் அவனைச் சர்வாங்க தகனமாகப் பலியிட்டான்; அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலர்மேல் கடுங்கோபம் மூண்டதினால், அவர்கள் அவனைவிட்டுப் புறப்பட்டு, தங்கள் தேசத்திற்குத் திரும்பிவிட்டார்கள்.

27. Then he took his oldest son who was to rule in his place, and gave him as a burnt gift on the wall. And many became very angry toward Israel. They left him and returned to their own land.
