1. அப்பொழுது பென்யமீன் மனுஷனான பிக்கிரியின் குமாரனாகிய சேபா என்னும் பேருள்ள பேலியாளின் மனுஷன் ஒருவன் தற்செயலாய் அங்கே இருந்தான்; அவன் எக்காளம் ஊதி: எங்களுக்குத் தாவீதினிடத்தில் பங்கும் இல்லை, ஈசாயின் குமாரனிடத்தில் எங்களுக்குச் சுதந்தரமும் இல்லை; இஸ்ரவேலே, நீங்கள் அவரவர் தங்கள் கூடாரங்களுக்குப் போய்விடுங்கள் என்றான்.

1. Now a wicked man, a Benjaminite named Sheba son of Bichri, happened to be there. He blew the ram's horn and shouted: We have no portion in David, no inheritance in Jesse's son. Each man to his tent, Israel!

2. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் மனுஷர் எல்லாரும் தாவீதை விட்டுப் பின்வாங்கி, பிக்கிரியின் குமாரனாகிய சேபாவைப் பின்பற்றிப் போனார்கள்; யோர்தான் தொடங்கி எருசலேம் மட்டுமுள்ள யூதா மனுஷர் தங்கள் ராஜாவைச் சார்ந்திருந்தார்கள்.

2. So all the men of Israel deserted David and followed Sheba son of Bichri, but the men of Judah from the Jordan all the way to Jerusalem remained loyal to their king.

3. When David came to his palace in Jerusalem, he took the 10 concubines he had left to take care of the palace and placed them under guard. He provided for them, but he was not intimate with them. They were confined until the day of their death, living as widows.

4. பின்பு ராஜா அமாசாவைப் பார்த்து: நீ யூதா மனுஷரை மூன்று நாளைக்குள்ளே என்னிடத்தில் வரவழைத்து, நீயும் கூட வந்து இருக்கவேண்டும் என்றான்.

4. The king said to Amasa, 'Summon the men of Judah to me within three days and be here yourself.'

5. அப்பொழுது அமாசா: யூதாவை அழைப்பிக்கப் போய், தனக்குக் குறித்த காலத்திலே வராமல் தாமதித்திருந்தான்.

5. Amasa went to summon Judah, but he took longer than the time allotted him.

6. அப்பொழுது தாவீது அபிசாயைப் பார்த்து: அப்சலோமைப்பார்க்கிலும் பிக்கிரியின் குமாரனாகிய சேபா, இப்பொழுது நமக்குப் பொல்லாப்புச் செய்வான்; அவன் அரணான பட்டணங்களில் வந்தடைந்து, நம்முடைய கண்களுக்குத் தப்பிப்போகாதபடிக்கு, நீ உன் எஜமானுடைய சேவகரைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, அவனைப் பின்தொடர்ந்துபோ என்றான்.

6. So David said to Abishai, 'Sheba son of Bichri will do more harm to us than Absalom. Take your lord's soldiers and pursue him, or he will find fortified cities and elude us.'

7. அப்படியே யோவாபின் மனுஷரும், கிரேத்தியரும் பிலேத்தியரும், சகல பலசாலிகளும் அவன் பிறகாலே புறப்பட்டு, பிக்கிரியின் குமாரனாகிய சேபாவைப் பின்தொடர எருசலேமிலிருந்து போனார்கள்.

7. So Joab's men, the Cherethites, the Pelethites, and all the warriors marched out under Abishai's command; they left Jerusalem to pursue Sheba son of Bichri.

8. அவர்கள் கிபியோன் கிட்ட இருக்கிற பெரிய கல்லண்டையிலே வந்தபோது, அமாசா அவர்களுக்கு எதிர்ப்பட்டுவந்தான்; யோவாபோ, தான் உடுத்திக்கொண்டிருக்கிற தன் சட்டையின்மேல் ஒரு கச்சையைக் கட்டிக்கொண்டிருந்தான்; அதில் உறையோடே ஒரு பட்டயம் அவன் இடுப்பண்டையிலே தொங்கிற்று; அவன் புறப்படுகையில் அது விழுந்தது.

8. They were at the great stone in Gibeon when Amasa joined them. Joab was wearing his uniform and over it was a belt around his waist with a sword in its sheath. As he approached, [the sword] fell out.

9. அப்பொழுது யோவாப் அமாசாவைப் பார்த்து: என் சகோதரனே, சுகமாயிருக்கிறாயா என்று சொல்லி, அமாசாவை முத்தஞ்செய்யும்படி, தன் வலது கையினால் அவன் தாடியைப் பிடித்து,

9. Joab asked Amasa, 'Are you well, my brother?' Then with his right hand Joab grabbed Amasa by the beard to kiss him.

10. தன் கையிலிருக்கிற பட்டயத்திற்கு அமாசா எச்சரிக்கையாயிராதபோது, யோவாப் அவனை அவன் குடல்கள் தரையிலே சரிந்துபோகத்தக்கதாய், அதினால் வயிற்றிலே ஒரே குத்தாக குத்தினான்; அவன் செத்துப்போனான்; அப்பொழுது யோவாபும் அவன் சகோதரனாகிய அபிசாயும் பிக்கிரியின் குமாரனாகிய சேபாவைப் பின்தொடர்ந்தார்கள்.

10. Amasa was not on guard against the sword in Joab's hand, and Joab stabbed him in the stomach with it and spilled his intestines out on the ground. Joab did not stab him again for Amasa was dead. Joab and his brother Abishai pursued Sheba son of Bichri.

11. யோவாபுடைய வாலிபரில் ஒருவன் செத்தவனண்டையிலே நின்று, யோவாபின்மேல் பிரியப்படுகிறவன் எவனோ, தாவீதின் பட்சத்தில் இருக்கிறவன் எவனோ, அவன் யோவாபைப் பின்பற்றிப்போவானாக என்றான்.

11. One of Joab's young men had stood over Amasa saying, 'Whoever favors Joab and whoever is for David, follow Joab!'

12. அமாசா நடுவழியிலே இரத்தத்திலே புரண்டு கிடந்தபடியினால், ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் தரித்து நிற்பதை அவன் கண்டு, அமாசாவை வழியிலிருந்து வயலிலே இழுத்துப்போட்டான்; அவனண்டையிலே வருகிறவர்கள் எல்லாரும் தரித்து நிற்பதைக் கண்டு, ஒரு வஸ்திரத்தை அவன்மேல் போட்டான்.

12. Now Amasa was writhing in his blood in the middle of the highway, and the man had seen that all the people stopped. So he moved Amasa from the highway to the field and threw a garment over him because he realized that all those who encountered Amasa were stopping.

13. அவன் வழியிலிருந்து எடுத்துப்போடப்பட்ட பிற்பாடு, எல்லாரும் கடந்து, பிக்கிரியின் குமாரனாகிய சேபாவைத் தொடர, யோவாபுக்குப் பின்சென்றார்கள்.

13. When he was removed from the highway, all the men passed by and followed Joab to pursue Sheba son of Bichri.

14. அவன் இஸ்ரவேல் கோத்திரங்களையெல்லாம் சுற்றி, பெத்மாக்காவாகிய ஆபேல்மட்டாகவும், பேரீமின் கடைசிமட்டாகவும் வந்திருந்தான்; அவ்விடத்தாரும் கூடி, தாங்களும் அவனுக்குப் பின்சென்றார்கள்.

14. Sheba passed through all the tribes of Israel to Abel of Beth-maacah. All the Berites came together and followed him.

15. அவர்கள் போய் பெத்மாக்காவாகிய ஆபேலிலே அவனை முற்றிக்கைபோட்டு, பட்டணத்திற்கு எதிராகத் தெற்றுவரைக்கும் கொத்தளம் போட்டார்கள்; யோவாபோடே இருக்கிற ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் அலங்கத்தை விழப்பண்ணும்படி அழிக்க எத்தனம்பண்ணினார்கள்.

15. Joab's troops came and besieged Sheba in Abel of Beth-maacah. They built an assault ramp against the outer wall of the city. While all the troops with Joab were battering the wall to make it collapse,

16. அப்பொழுது புத்தியுள்ள ஒரு ஸ்திரீ பட்டணத்திலிருந்து சத்தமிட்டு: கேளுங்கள், கேளுங்கள்; நான் யோவாபோடே பேசவேண்டும்; அவரை இங்கே கிட்டவரச் சொல்லுங்கள் என்றாள்.

16. a wise woman called out from the city, 'Listen! Listen! Please tell Joab to come here and let me speak with him.'

17. அவன் அவளுக்குச் சமீபத்தில் வந்தபோது, அந்த ஸ்திரீ: நீர்தானா யோவாப் என்று கேட்டாள்; அவன் நான்தான் என்றான்; அப்பொழுது, அவள் அவனைப் பார்த்து: உமது அடியாளின் வார்த்தைகளைக் கேளும் என்றாள்; அவன்: கேட்கிறேன் என்றான்.

17. When he had come near her, the woman asked, 'Are you Joab?' 'I am,' he replied. 'Listen to the words of your servant,' she said to him. He answered, 'I'm listening.'

18. அப்பொழுது அவள்: பூர்வகாலத்து ஜனங்கள் ஆபேலிலே விசாரித்தால் வழக்குத் தீரும் என்பார்கள்.

18. She said, 'In the past they used to say, 'Seek counsel in Abel,' and that's how they settled [disputes].

19. இஸ்ரவேலிலே நான் சமாதானமும் உண்மையுமுள்ளவளாயிருக்கையில், நீர் இஸ்ரவேலிலே தாய் பட்டணமாயிருக்கிறதை நிர்மூலமாக்கப் பார்க்கிறீரோ? நீர் கர்த்தருடைய சுதந்தரத்தை விழுங்கவேண்டியது என்ன என்றாள்.

19. I am a peaceful person, one of the faithful in Israel, but you're trying to destroy a city that is like a mother in Israel. Why would you devour the LORD's inheritance?'

20. யோவாப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: விழுங்கவேண்டும் அழிக்கவேண்டும் என்கிற ஆசை எனக்கு வெகுதூரமாயிருப்பதாக.

20. Joab protested: 'Never! I do not want to destroy!

21. காரியம் அப்படியல்ல; பிக்கிரியின் குமாரனாகிய சேபா என்னும் பேருள்ள எப்பிராயீம் பர்வதத்தானாயிருக்கிற ஒரு மனுஷன், ராஜாவாகிய தாவீதுக்கு விரோதமாய்த் தன் கையை ஓங்கினான்; அவனை மாத்திரம் ஒப்புக்கொடுங்கள்; அப்பொழுது பட்டணத்தை விட்டுப் போவேன் என்றான். அப்பொழுது அந்த ஸ்திரீ யோவாபைப் பார்த்து: இதோ, அவன் தலை மதிலின்மேலிருந்து உம்மிடத்திலே போடப்படும் என்று சொல்லி,

21. That is not [my] intention. There is a man named Sheba son of Bichri, from the hill country of Ephraim, who has rebelled against King David. Deliver this one man, and I will withdraw from the city.' The woman replied to Joab, 'All right. His head will be thrown over the wall to you.'

22. அவள் ஜனங்களிடத்தில் போய் புத்தியாய்ப் பேசினதினால், அவர்கள் பிக்கிரியின் குமாரனாகிய சேபாவின் தலையை வெட்டி, யோவாபிடத்திலே போட்டார்கள்; அப்பொழுது அவன் எக்காளம் ஊதினான்; அவரவர் பட்டணத்தை விட்டுக் கலைந்து, தங்கள் கூடாரங்களுக்குப் புறப்பட்டுப்போனார்கள்; யோவாபும் ராஜாவிடத்துக்குப் போகும்படி எருசலேமுக்குத் திரும்பினான்.

22. The woman went to all the people with her wise counsel, and they cut off the head of Sheba son of Bichri and threw it to Joab. So he blew the ram's horn, and they dispersed from the city, each to his own tent. Joab returned to the king in Jerusalem.

23. யோவாப் இஸ்ரவேலுடைய எல்லா இராணுவத்தின்மேலும், யோய்தாவின் குமாரனாகிய பெனாயா கிரேத்தியர்மேலும் பிலேத்தியர்மேலும் தலைவராயிருந்தார்கள்.

23. Joab commanded the whole army of Israel; Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and Pelethites;

24. அதோராம் பகுதிகளை வாங்குகிறவனும், அகிலூதின் குமாரனாகிய யோசபாத் மந்திரியும்,

24. Adoram was in charge of forced labor; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was court historian;

25. சேவா சம்பிரதியும், சாதோக்கும் அபியத்தாரும் ஆசாரியருமாயிருந்தார்கள்.

25. Sheva was court secretary; Zadok and Abiathar were priests;

26. யயீரியனாகிய ஈராவும் தாவீதுக்குப் பிரதானியாயிருந்தான்.

26. and in addition, Ira the Jairite was David's priest.
