1. ராஜாவின் இருதயம் அப்சலோமின் மேல் இன்னும் தாங்கலாயிருக்கிறதைச் செருயாவின் குமாரன் யோவாப் கண்டு,

1. Now, Joab son of Zeruiah observed that the king was favourably inclined to Absalom.

2. அவன் தெக்கோவாவிலிருக்கிற புத்தியுள்ள ஒரு ஸ்தீரியை அழைத்து: நீ இழவு கொண்டாடுகிறவளைப்போல, துக்கவஸ்திரங்களை உடுத்திக்கொண்டு, எண்ணெய் பூசிக்கொள்ளாமல், இறந்து போனவனுக்காக நெடுநாள் துக்கிக்கிற ஸ்திரீயைப் போலக் காண்பித்து,

2. Joab therefore sent to Tekoa for a wise woman. 'Pretend to be in mourning,' he said. 'Dress yourself in mourning, do not perfume yourself; act like a woman who has long been mourning for the dead.

3. ராஜாவினிடத்தில் போய், அவரை நோக்கி: இன்ன இன்ன பிரகாரமாகச் சொல் என்று அவள் சொல்லவேண்டிய வார்த்தைகளை யோவாப் அவள் வாயிலே போட்டான்.

3. Then go to the king and say this to him.' And Joab put the words into her mouth which she was to say.

4. அப்படியே தெக்கோவா ஊராளான அந்த ஸ்திரீ ராஜாவோடே பேசப்போய், தரையிலே முகங்குப்புற விழுந்து வணங்கி: ராஜாவே, இரட்சியும் என்றாள்.

4. So the woman of Tekoa went to the king and, falling on her face to the ground, prostrated herself. 'Help, my lord king!' she said.

5. ராஜா அவளைப் பார்த்து: உனக்கு என்ன வேண்டும் என்றதற்கு, அவள்: நான் விதவையானவள், என் புருஷன் சென்றுபோனான்.

5. The king said, 'What is the matter?' 'As you see,' she replied, 'I am a widow; my husband is dead.

6. உமது அடியாளுக்கு இரண்டு குமாரர் இருந்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் இருவரும் வெளியிலே சண்டைபண்ணி, அவர்களை விலக்க ஒருவரும் இல்லாதபடியினால், ஒருவன் மற்றவனை அடித்துக் கொன்றுபோட்டான்.

6. Your servant had two sons and out in the fields, where there was no one to intervene, they had a quarrel. And one of them struck the other one and killed him.

7. வம்சத்தார் எல்லாரும் உம்முடைய அடியாளுக்கு விரோதமாய் எழும்பி, தன் சகோதரனைக் கொன்று போட்டவனை ஒப்பி; அவன் கொன்ற அவன் சகோதரனுடைய பிராணனுக்காக நாங்கள் அவனைக் கொன்றுபோடுவோம்; சுதந்தரவாளனாயினும் அவனையும் அழித்துப்போடுவோம் என்கிறார்கள். இப்படி என் புருஷனுக்குப் பேரும் நீதியும் பூமியின்மேல் வைக்கப்படாதபடிக்கு, எனக்கு இன்னும் மீதியாயிருக்கிற பொறியையும் அவித்துப்போட மனதாயிருக்கிறார்கள் என்றாள்.

7. And now the whole clan has risen against your servant. 'Give up the man who killed his brother,' they say, 'so that we can put him to death, to atone for the life of the brother whom he has murdered; and thus we shall destroy the heir as well.' By this means, they will extinguish the ember still left to me, leaving my husband neither name nor survivor on the face of the earth.'

8. ராஜா அந்த ஸ்திரீயைப் பார்த்து: நீ உன் வீட்டுக்குப் போ, உன் காரியத்தைக் குறித்து உத்தரவு கொடுப்பேன் என்றான்.

8. Then the king said to the woman, 'Go home; I myself shall give orders about your case.'

9. பின்னும் அந்தத் தெக்கோவாவூர் ஸ்திரீ ராஜாவைப் பார்த்து: ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனே, ராஜாவின் மேலும் அவர் சிங்காசனத்தின்மேலும் குற்றமில்லாதபடிக்கு, அந்தப் பழி என்மேலும் என் தகப்பன் வீட்டின்மேலும் சுமரக்கடவது என்றாள்.

9. The woman of Tekoa said to the king, 'My lord king! May the guilt be on me and on my family; the king and his throne are innocent of it.'

10. அதற்கு ராஜா: உனக்கு விரோதமாகப் பேசுகிறவனை என்னிடத்தில் கொண்டுவா; அப்பொழுது அவன் இனி உன்னைத் தொடாதிருப்பான் என்றான்.

10. 'Bring me the man who threatened you,' the king replied, 'and he shall never hurt you again.'

11. பின்னும் அவள்: இரத்தப்பழி வாங்குகிறவர்கள் அழிம்பு செய்து, என் குமாரனை அதம்பண்ணப் பெருகிப்போகாதபடிக்கு, ராஜாவானவர் தம்முடைய தேவனாகிய கர்த்தரை நினைப்பாராக என்றாள். அதற்கு ராஜா: உன் குமாரனுடைய மயிரில் ஒன்றாவது தரையில் விழுவதில்லை என்று கர்த்தரின் ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றான்.

11. She then said, 'Let the king be pleased to pronounce the name of Yahweh your God, so that the avenger of blood may not do greater harm and destroy my son.' 'As Yahweh lives,' he said, 'not one of your son's hairs shall fall to the ground!'

12. அப்பொழுது அந்த ஸ்திரீ: ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனோடே உமது அடியாள் ஒரு வார்த்தை சொல்ல உத்தரவாக வேண்டும் என்றாள். அவன்: சொல்லு என்றான்.

12. Then the woman said, 'Permit your servant to say something else to my lord the king.' 'Go on,' he said.

13. அப்பொழுது அந்த ஸ்திரீ: பின்னை ஏன் தேவனுடைய ஜனத்திற்கு விரோதமாய் இப்படிப்பட்ட நினைவை நீர் கொண்டிருக்கிறீர், துரத்துண்ட தம்முடையவனை ராஜா திரும்ப அழைக்காததினாலே, ராஜா இப்பொழுது சொன்ன வார்த்தையினால் குற்றமுள்ளவரைப்போல் இருக்கிறார்.

13. The woman said, 'Why then has the king, who by giving this verdict has condemned himself, conceived the idea, against God's people's interests, of not bringing home the son whom he has banished?

14. நாம் மரிப்பது நிச்சயம், திரும்பச் சேர்க்கக்கூடாதபடிக்கு, தரையிலே சுவறுகிற தண்ணீரைப்போல் இருக்கிறோம்; தேவன் ஜீவனை எடுத்துக்கொள்ளாமல், துரத்துண்டவன் முற்றிலும் தம்மை விட்டு விலக்கப்படாதிருக்கும் நினைவுகளை நினைக்கிறார்.

14. We are all mortal; we are like water spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again, nor does God raise up a corpse; let the king therefore make plans for his banished son not to remain far away from him in exile.

15. இப்பொழுதும் நான் என் ஆண்டவனாகிய ராஜாவோடே இந்த வார்த்தையைப் பேசவந்த முகாந்தரம் என்னவென்றால்: ஜனங்கள் எனக்குப் பயமுண்டாக்கினதினால், நான் ராஜாவோடே பேசவந்தேன்; ஒருவேளை ராஜா தமது அடியாளுடைய வார்த்தையின்படி செய்வார் என்று உமது அடியாளாகிய நான் நினைத்ததினாலும் வந்தேனே ஒழிய வேறில்லை.

15. 'Now, the reason why I came to speak about this to my lord the king is that I was being intimidated, and your servant thought, 'I shall speak to the king; perhaps the king will do what his servant asks.

16. என்னையும் என் குமாரனையும் ஏகமாய் தேவனுடைய சுதந்தரத்திற்குப் புறம்பாக்கி, அழிக்க நினைக்கிற மனுஷனுடைய கைக்குத் தமது அடியாளை நீங்கலாக்கிவிடும்படிக்கு ராஜா கேட்பார்.

16. Surely the king will consent to save his servant from the clutches of the man who is trying to cut both me and my son off from God's heritage.

17. ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனுடைய வார்த்தை எனக்கு ஆறுதலாயிருக்கும் என்று உமது அடியாளாகிய நான் எண்ணினேன்; நன்மையையும் தீமையையும் கேட்கும்படி, ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவன் தேவனுடைய தூதனைப் போல இருக்கிறார்; இதற்காக உம்முடைய தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உம்மோடேக்கூட இருக்கிறார் என்றாள்.

17. Let a word from my lord the king, restore the peace!' your servant thought, 'for my lord the king is like the Angel of God in understanding good and evil.' May Yahweh your God be with you!'

18. அப்பொழுது ராஜா அந்த ஸ்திரீக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: நான் உன்னிடத்தில் கேட்கும் காரியத்தை நீ எனக்கு மறைக்க வேண்டாம் என்றான். அதற்கு அந்த ஸ்திரீ, ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவர் சொல்வாராக என்றாள்.

18. Replying to the woman, the king said, 'Now do not evade the question which I am going to ask you.' The woman said, 'Let my lord the king ask his question.'

19. அப்பொழுது ராஜா: இதிலெல்லாம் யோவாப் உனக்கு உட்கையாய் இருக்கவில்லையா என்று கேட்டான். அதற்கு ஸ்திரீ பிரதியுத்தரமாக, ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவன் சொன்னதற்கெல்லாம் வலது பக்கத்திலாவது இடது பக்கத்திலாவது விலகுவதற்கு ஒருவராலும் கூடாது என்று ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனுடைய ஜீவனைக் கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன்; உமது அடியானாகிய யோவாப் தான் இதை எனக்குக் கற்பித்து, அவனே இந்த எல்லா வார்த்தைகளையும் உமது அடியாளின் வாயிலே போட்டான்.

19. 'Is not Joab's hand behind you in all this?' the king asked. The woman replied, 'As you live, my lord king, I cannot escape what my lord the king says, either to right or to left. Yes, it was your servant Joab who gave me my orders; he put all these words into your servant's mouth.

20. நான் இந்தக் காரியத்தை உபமானமாய்ப் பேசுகிறதற்கு உமது அடியானாகிய யோவாப் அதற்குக் காரணமாயிருந்தான்; ஆனாலும் தேசத்தில் நடக்கிறதையெல்லாம் அறிய, என் ஆண்டவனுடைய ஞானம் தேவதூதனுடைய ஞானத்தைப் போல் இருக்கிறது என்றாள்.

20. Your servant Joab did this to approach the matter indirectly, but my lord has the wisdom of the Angel of God; he knows everything that happens on earth!'

21. அப்பொழுது ராஜா யோவாபைப் பார்த்து: இதோ, இந்தக் காரியத்தைச் செய்கிறேன், நீ போய் அப்சலோம் என்னும் பிள்ளையாண்டானைத் திரும்ப அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவா என்றான்.

21. The king then said to Joab, 'Very well, the suit is granted. Go and bring the young man Absalom back.'

22. அப்பொழுது யோவாப் தரையிலே முகங்குப்புற விழுந்து வணங்கி, ராஜாவை வாழ்த்தி, ராஜா தமது அடியானுடைய வார்த்தையின்படி செய்ததினால், என் ஆண்டவனாகிய ராஜாவின் கண்களில் எனக்குத் தயைகிடைத்தது என்று இன்று உமது அடியானுக்குத் தெரியவந்தது என்றான்.

22. Joab fell on his face to the ground, prostrated himself and blessed the king. 'My lord king,' Joab said, 'today your servant knows that he has won your favour, since the king has done what his servant asked.'

23. பின்பு யோவாப் எழுந்து, கேசூருக்குப் போய், அப்சலோமை எருசலேமுக்கு அழைத்துக்கொண்டு வந்தான்.

23. Joab then set off, went to Geshur, and brought Absalom back to Jerusalem.

24. ராஜா: அவன் என் முகத்தைப் பார்க்கவேண்டியதில்லை; தன் வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்பிப் போகட்டும் என்றான்; அப்படியே அப்சலோம் ராஜாவின் முகத்தைப் பார்க்காமல் தன் வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்பிப்போனான்.

24. The king, however, said, 'Let him retire to his own house; he is not to appear in my presence.' So Absalom retired to his own house and was not received by the king.

25. இஸ்ரவேலர் அனைவருக்குள்ளும் அப்சலோமைப்போல் சவுந்தரியமுள்ளவனும் மெச்சிக்கொள்ளப்பட்டவனும் இல்லை; உள்ளங்கால் தொடங்கி உச்சந்தலைமட்டும் அவனில் ஒரு பழுதும் இல்லாதிருந்தது.

25. In all Israel there was no one more praised for his beauty than Absalom; from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head, he could not be faulted.

26. அவன் தன் தலைமயிர் தனக்குப் பாரமாயிருப்பதினால் வருஷாந்தரம் சிரைத்துக்கொள்ளுவான்; சிரைக்கும்போது, அவன் தலைமயிர் ராஜாவுடைய நிறையின்படி இருநூறு சேக்கல் நிறையாயிருக்கும்.

26. When he cut his hair -- he shaved it once a year because his hair got too heavy -- he would weigh the hair: two hundred shekels, king's weight.

27. அப்சலோமுக்கு மூன்று குமாரரும், தாமார் என்னும் பேர்கொண்ட ஒரு குமாரத்தியும் பிறந்தார்கள்; இவள் ரூபவதியான பெண்ணாயிருந்தாள்.

27. To Absalom were born three sons and one daughter called Tamar; she was a beautiful woman.

28. அப்சலோம், ராஜாவின் முகத்தைக் காணாமலே, இரண்டு வருஷம் எருசலேமிலே குடியிருந்தான்.

28. Absalom lived in Jerusalem for two years without being received by the king.

29. ஆகையால் அப்சலோம் யோவாபை ராஜாவினிடத்தில் அனுப்பும்படி அழைப்பித்தான்; அவனோ அவனிடத்திற்கு வரமாட்டேன் என்றான்; இரண்டாம்விசையும் அவன் அழைத்தனுப்பினான்; அவன் வரமாட்டேன் என்றான்.

29. Absalom then summoned Joab, intending to send him to the king, but Joab would not come to him. He sent for him a second time, but still he would not come.

30. அப்பொழுது அவன் தன் வேலைக்காரரைப் பார்த்து: இதோ என் நிலத்திற்கு அருகே யோவாபின் நிலம் இருக்கிறது; அதிலே அவனுக்கு வாற்கோதுமை விளைந்திருக்கிறது; நீங்கள் போய் அதைத் தீக்கொளுத்திப் போடுங்கள் என்றான்; அப்படியே அப்சலோமின் வேலைக்காரர் அந்த நிலத்தை தீக்கொளுத்திப் போட்டார்கள்.

30. At this, Absalom said to his retainers, 'Look, Joab's field is next to mine and he has barley in it; go and set it on fire.' Absalom's retainers set fire to the field.

31. அப்பொழுது யோவாப் எழுந்திருந்து, அப்சலோமிடத்தில் வீட்டிற்குள் போய், என்னுடைய நிலத்தை உம்முடைய வேலைக்காரர் தீக்கொளுத்திப்போட்டது என்ன என்று அவனைக் கேட்டான்.

31. Joab then stirred himself, went to Absalom in his house and asked, 'Why have your retainers set my field on fire?'

32. அப்சலோம் யோவாபைப் பார்த்து: இதோ, நான் ஏன் கேசூரிலிருந்து வந்தேன்; நான் அங்கே இருந்துவிட்டால் நலம் என்று ராஜாவுக்குச் சொல்லும்படி உம்மை ராஜாவினிடத்தில் அனுப்புவதற்காக உம்மை இங்கே வரும்படி அழைப்பித்தேன்; இப்போதும் நான் ராஜாவின் முகத்தைப் பார்க்கட்டும்; என்மேல் குற்றமிருந்தால் அவர் என்னைக் கொன்றுபோடட்டும் என்றான்.

32. Absalom replied to Joab, 'Look, I sent word to you: Come here, so that I can send you to the king to say, 'Why come back from Geshur? Better for me to have been there still!' Now I want to be received by the king, and if I am guilty, let him put me to death!'

33. யோவாப் ராஜாவினிடத்தில் போய், அதை அவனுக்கு அறிவித்தபோது, அப்சலோமை அழைப்பித்தான்; அவன் ராஜாவினிடத்தில் வந்து, ராஜாவுக்கு முன்பாகத் தரையிலே முகங்குப்புற விழுந்து வணங்கினான், அப்பொழுது ராஜா அப்சலோமை முத்தமிட்டான்.

33. Joab went to the king and told him this. He then summoned Absalom, who prostrated himself with his face to the ground before the king. And the king kissed Absalom.
