1. ஈசாக்கு யாக்கோபை அழைத்து, அவனை ஆசீர்வதித்து, நீ கானானியருடைய குமாரத்திகளில் பெண்கொள்ளாமல்,

1. So Isaac called in Jacob and blessed him. Then he ordered him, 'Don't take a Caananite wife.

2. எழுந்து புறப்பட்டு, பதான் அராமிலிருக்கிற உன் தாயினுடைய தகப்பனாகிய பெத்துவேலுடைய வீட்டுக்குப் போய், அவ்விடத்தில் உன் தாயின் சகோதரனாகிய லாபானின் குமாரத்திகளுக்குள் பெண்கொள் என்று அவனுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டான்.

2. Leave at once. Go to Paddan Aram to the family of your mother's father, Bethuel. Get a wife for yourself from the daughters of your uncle Laban.

3. சர்வவல்லமையுள்ள தேவன் உன்னை ஆசீர்வதித்து, நீ பல ஜனக்கூட்டமாகும்படி உன்னைப் பலுகவும் பெருகவும்பண்ணி;

3. 'And may The Strong God bless you and give you many, many children, a congregation of peoples;

4. தேவன் ஆபிரகாமுக்குக் கொடுத்ததும் நீ பரதேசியாய்த் தங்குகிறதுமான தேசத்தை நீ சுதந்தரித்துக்கொள்ளும்படி ஆபிரகாமுக்கு அருளிய ஆசீர்வாதத்தை உனக்கும் உன் சந்ததிக்கும் அருளுவாராக என்று சொல்லி;

4. and pass on the blessing of Abraham to you and your descendants so that you will get this land in which you live, this land God gave Abraham.'

5. ஈசாக்கு யாக்கோபை அனுப்பிவிட்டான். அப்பொழுது அவன் பதான் அராமிலிருக்கும் சீரியா தேசத்தானாகிய பெத்துவேலுடைய குமாரனும், தனக்கும் ஏசாவுக்கும் தாயாகிய ரெபெக்காளின் சகோதரனுமான லாபானிடத்துக்குப் போகப் புறப்பட்டான்.

5. So Isaac sent Jacob off. He went to Paddan Aram, to Laban son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah who was the mother of Jacob and Esau.

6. ஈசாக்கு யாக்கோபை ஆசீர்வதித்து, ஒரு பெண்ணைக் கொள்ளும்படி அவனைப் பதான் அராமுக்கு அனுப்பினதையும், அவனை ஆசீர்வதிக்கையில்: நீ கானானியருடைய குமாரத்திகளில் பெண்கொள்ளவேண்டாம் என்று அவனுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டதையும்,

6. Esau learned that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him to Paddan Aram to get a wife there, and while blessing him commanded, 'Don't marry a Canaanite woman,'

7. யாக்கோபு தன் தகப்பனுக்கும் தன் தாய்க்கும் கீழ்ப்படிந்து, பதான் அராமுக்குப் புறப்பட்டுப்போனதையும் ஏசா கண்டதினாலும்,

7. and that Jacob had obeyed his parents and gone to Paddan Aram.

8. கானானியருடைய குமாரத்திகள் தன் தகப்பனாகிய ஈசாக்கின் பார்வைக்கு ஆகாதவர்கள் என்பதை ஏசா அறிந்ததினாலும்,

8. When Esau realized how deeply his father Isaac disliked the Canaanite women,

9. ஏசா இஸ்மவேலிடத்துக்குப் போய், தனக்கு முன்னிருந்த மனைவிகளுமன்றி, ஆபிரகாமுடைய குமாரனாகிய இஸ்மவேலின் குமாரத்தியும் நெபாயோத்தின் சகோதரியுமாகிய மகலாத்தையும் விவாகம் பண்ணினான்.

9. he went to Ishmael and married Mahalath the sister of Nebaioth and daughter of Ishmael, Abraham's son. This was in addition to the wives he already had.

10. யாக்கோபு பெயெர்செபாவை விட்டுப் புறப்பட்டு ஆரானுக்குப் போகப் பிரயாணம்பண்ணி,

10. Jacob left Beersheba and went to Haran.

11. ஒரு இடத்திலே வந்து, சூரியன் அஸ்தமித்தபடியினால், அங்கே ராத்தங்கி, அவ்விடத்துக் கற்களில் ஒன்றை எடுத்து, தன் தலையின்கீழ் வைத்து, அங்கே நித்திரை செய்யும்படி படுத்துக்கொண்டான்.

11. He came to a certain place and camped for the night since the sun had set. He took one of the stones there, set it under his head and lay down to sleep.

12. அங்கே அவன் ஒரு சொப்பனங்கண்டான்; இதோ, ஒரு ஏணி பூமியிலே வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது, அதின் நுனி வானத்தை எட்டியிருந்தது, அதிலே தேவதூதர் ஏறுகிறவர்களும் இறங்குகிறவர்களுமாய் இருந்தார்கள்.

12. And he dreamed: A stairway was set on the ground and it reached all the way to the sky; angels of God were going up and going down on it.

13. Then GOD was right before him, saying, 'I am GOD, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. I'm giving the ground on which you are sleeping to you and to your descendants.

14. உன் சந்ததி பூமியின் தூளைப்போலிருக்கும்; நீ மேற்கேயும், கிழக்கேயும், வடக்கேயும், தெற்கேயும் பரம்புவாய்; உனக்குள்ளும் உன் சந்ததிக்குள்ளும் பூமியின் வம்சங்களெல்லாம் ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்படும்.

14. Your descendants will be as the dust of the Earth; they'll stretch from west to east and from north to south. All the families of the Earth will bless themselves in you and your descendants.

15. நான் உன்னோடே இருந்து, நீ போகிற இடத்திலெல்லாம் உன்னைக் காத்து, இந்தத் தேசத்துக்கு உன்னைத்திரும்பி வரப்பண்ணுவேன்; நான் உனக்குச் சொன்னதைச் செய்யுமளவும் உன்னைக் கைவிடுவதில்லை என்றார்.

15. Yes. I'll stay with you, I'll protect you wherever you go, and I'll bring you back to this very ground. I'll stick with you until I've done everything I promised you.'

16. யாக்கோபு நித்திரை தெளிந்து விழித்தபோது: மெய்யாகவே கர்த்தர் இந்த ஸ்தலத்தில் இருக்கிறார்; இதை நான் அறியாதிருந்தேன் என்றான்.

16. Jacob woke up from his sleep. He said, 'GOD is in this place--truly. And I didn't even know it!'

17. அவன் பயந்து, இந்த ஸ்தலம் எவ்வளவு பயங்கரமாயிருக்கிறது! இது தேவனுடைய வீடேயல்லாமல் வேறல்ல, இது வானத்தின் வாசல் என்றான்.

17. He was terrified. He whispered in awe, 'Incredible. Wonderful. Holy. This is God's House. This is the Gate of Heaven.'

18. Jacob was up first thing in the morning. He took the stone he had used for his pillow and stood it up as a memorial pillar and poured oil over it.

19. அந்த ஸ்தலத்திற்குப் பெத்தேல் என்று பேரிட்டான்; அதற்கு முன்னே அவ்வூருக்கு லூஸ் என்னும் பேர் இருந்தது.

19. He christened the place Bethel (God's House). The name of the town had been Luz until then.

20. அப்பொழுது யாக்கோபு: தேவன் என்னோடே இருந்து, நான் போகிற இந்த வழியிலே என்னைக் காப்பாற்றி, உண்ண ஆகாரமும், உடுக்க வஸ்திரமும் எனக்குத் தந்து,

20. Jacob vowed a vow: 'If God stands by me and protects me on this journey on which I'm setting out, keeps me in food and clothing,

21. என்னை என் தகப்பன் வீட்டுக்குச் சமாதானத்தோடே திரும்பிவரப்பண்ணுவாரானால், கர்த்தர் எனக்குத் தேவனாயிருப்பார்;

21. and brings me back in one piece to my father's house, this GOD will be my God.

22. நான் தூணாக நிறுத்தின இந்தக் கல் தேவனுக்கு வீடாகும்; தேவரீர் எனக்குத் தரும் எல்லாவற்றிலும் உமக்குத் தசமபாகம் செலுத்துவேன் என்று சொல்லிப் பொருத்தனைபண்ணிக்கொண்டான்.

22. This stone that I have set up as a memorial pillar will mark this as a place where God lives. And everything you give me, I'll return a tenth to you.'
