1. சாராள் நூற்று இருபத்தேழு வருஷம் உயிரோடிருந்தாள்; இவ்வளவே சாராளுடைய வயது.

1. And Sarah was an hundred and seven and twenty years old: these were the years of the life of Sarah.

2. கானான் தேசத்திலுள்ள எபிரோன் என்னும் கீரியாத்அர்பாவிலே சாராள் மரித்தாள்; அப்பொழுது ஆபிரகாம் வந்து, சாராளுக்காகப் புலம்பி அழுதான்.

2. And Sarah died in Kirjatharba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.

3. பின்பு ஆபிரகாம் பிரேதம் இருந்த இடத்திலிருந்து எழுந்துபோய், ஏத்தின் புத்திரரோடே பேசி:

3. And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spoke to the sons of Heth, saying,

4. நான் உங்களிடத்தில் அந்நியனும் பரதேசியுமாய் இருக்கிறேன்; என்னிடத்திலிருக்கிற இந்தப் பிரேதம் என் கண்முன் இராதபடிக்கு நான் அதை அடக்கம்பண்ணுவதற்கு, உங்களிடத்தில் எனக்குச் சொந்தமாக ஒரு கல்லறைப் பூமியைத் தரவேண்டும் என்றான்.

4. I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a burial plot with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.

5. அதற்கு ஏத்தின் புத்திரர் ஆபிரகாமுக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக:

5. And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying to him,

6. எங்கள் ஆண்டவனே, நாங்கள் சொல்லுகிறதைக் கேளும்; எங்களுக்குள்ளே நீர் மகா பிரபு; எங்கள் கல்லறைகளில் முக்கியமானதிலே பிரேதத்தை அடக்கம்பண்ணும்; நீர் பிரேதத்தை அடக்கம்பண்ண எங்களில் ஒருவனும் தன் கல்லறையை உமக்குத் தடைசெய்வதில்லை என்றார்கள்.

6. Hear us, my lord: you are a mighty prince among us: in the choice of our sepulchers bury your dead; none of us shall withhold from you his sepulcher, but that you may bury your dead.

7. அப்பொழுது ஆபிரகாம் எழுந்திருந்து, ஏத்தின் புத்திரராகிய அத்தேசத்தாருக்கு வந்தனம் செய்து,

7. And Abraham stood up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth.

8. அவர்களோடே பேசி: என்னிடத்திலிருக்கிற பிரேதம் என் கண்முன் இராதபடிக்கு, நான் அதை அடக்கம்பண்ண உங்களுக்குச் சம்மதியானால், நீங்கள் என் வார்த்தையைக் கேட்டு, சோகாருடைய குமாரனாகிய எப்பெரோன்,

8. And he communed with them, saying, If it be your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight; hear me, and entreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar,

9. தன் நிலத்தின் கடைசியிலே இருக்கிற மக்பேலா என்னப்பட்ட குகையை எனக்குச் சொந்தமான கல்லறைப் பூமியாயிருக்கும்படி தரவேண்டும் என்று, அவரிடத்தில் எனக்காக வேண்டிக்கொள்ளுங்கள்; அது பெறுமான விலைக்கு அவர் அதைத் தருவாராக என்றான்.

9. That he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he has, which is in the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he shall give it me for a possession of a burial plot among you.

10. எப்பெரோன் ஏத்தின் புத்திரர் நடுவிலே உட்கார்ந்திருந்தான்; அப்பொழுது ஏத்தியனாகிய எப்பெரோன் தன் ஊர் வாசலுக்குள் பிரவேசிக்கிற ஏத்தின் புத்திரர் அனைவரும் கேட்க ஆபிரகாமுக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக:

10. And Ephron dwelled among the children of Heth: and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of the children of Heth, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying,

11. அப்படியல்ல, என் ஆண்டவனே, என் வார்த்தையைக் கேளும்; அந்த நிலத்தை உமக்குத் தருகிறேன், அதிலிருக்கும் குகையையும் உமக்குத் தருகிறேன், என் ஜனப்புத்திரருடைய கண்களுக்கு முன்பாக அதை உமக்குத் தருகிறேன், உம்மிடத்திலிருக்கிற பிரேதத்தை அடக்கம்பண்ணும் என்றான்.

11. No, my lord, hear me: the field give I you, and the cave that is therein, I give it you; in the presence of the sons of my people give I it you: bury your dead.

12. அப்பொழுது ஆபிரகாம் அத்தேசத்தாருக்கு வந்தனம் செய்து,

12. And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land.

13. தேசத்து ஜனங்கள் கேட்க, எப்பெரோனை நோக்கி: கொடுக்க உமக்கு மனதானால் என் வார்த்தையைக் கேளும்; நிலத்தின் விலையைத் தருகிறேன்; என் கையில் அதை வாங்கிக்கொள்ளும்; அப்பொழுது என்னிடத்திலிருக்கிற பிரேதத்தை அவ்விடத்தில் அடக்கம்பண்ணுவேன் என்றான்.

13. And he spoke to Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if you will give it, I pray you, hear me: I will give you money for the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there.

14. அதற்கு எப்பெரோன் ஆபிரகாமுக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக:

14. And Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him,

15. என் ஆண்டவனே, நான் சொல்லுகிறதைக் கேளும்; அந்த நிலம் நானூறு சேக்கல் நிறை வெள்ளி பெறும்; எனக்கும் உமக்கும் அது எவ்வளவு காரியம்; நீர் உம்மிடத்திலிருக்கிற பிரேதத்தை அடக்கம் பண்ணும் என்றான்.

15. My lord, listen to me: the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that between me and you? bury therefore your dead.

16. அப்பொழுது ஆபிரகாம் எப்பெரோனின் சொல்லைக் கேட்டு, ஏத்தின் புத்திரருக்கு முன்பாக எப்பெரோன் சொன்னபடியே, வர்த்தகரிடத்தில் செல்லும்படியான நானூறு சேக்கல் நிறை வெள்ளியை அவனுக்கு நிறுத்துக் கொடுத்தான்.

16. And Abraham listened to Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant.

17. இந்தப்பிரகாரம் மம்ரேக்கு எதிரே மக்பேலாவிலுள்ள எப்பெரோனுடைய நிலமாகிய அந்தப் பூமியும், அதிலுள்ள குகையும், நிலத்தின் எல்லையெங்கும் சூழ்ந்திருக்கிற மரங்கள் அடங்கலும்,

17. And the field of Ephron which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all the borders round about, were made sure

18. அவனுடைய ஊர்வாசலுக்குள் பிரவேசிக்கும் ஏத்தின் புத்திரர் எல்லாரும் அறிய ஆபிரகாமுக்குச் சொந்தமாக உறுதிப்படுத்தப்பட்டது.

18. To Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city.

19. அதற்குப்பின் ஆபிரகாம் தன் மனைவியாகிய சாராளைக் கானான் தேசத்தில் எப்பெரோன் ஊர் பூமியான மம்ரேக்கு எதிரே இருக்கிற மக்பேலா என்னும் நிலத்தின் குகையிலே அடக்கம்பண்ணினான்.

19. And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre: the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan.

20. இப்படி ஏத்தின் புத்திரர் கையில் கொள்ளப்பட்ட அந்த நிலமும், அதிலுள்ள குகையும், ஆபிரகாமுக்குச் சொந்த கல்லறைப் பூமியாக உறுதிப்படுத்தப்பட்டது.

20. And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure to Abraham for a possession of a burial plot by the sons of Heth.
