1. ஆபிரகாம் அவ்விடம் விட்டு, தென்தேசத்திற்குப் பிரயாணம்பண்ணி, காதேசுக்கும் சூருக்கும் நடுவாகக் குடியேறி, கேராரிலே தங்கினான்.

1. NOW ABRAHAM journeyed from there toward the South country (the Negeb) and dwelt between Kadesh and Shur; and he lived temporarily in Gerar.

2. அங்கே ஆபிரகாம் தன் மனைவியாகிய சாராளைத் தன் சகோதரி என்று சொன்னதினாலே, கேராரின் ராஜாவாகிய அபிமெலேக்கு ஆள் அனுப்பிச் சாராளை அழைப்பித்தான்.

2. And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister. And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah [into his harem].

3. தேவன் இரவிலே அபிமெலேக்குக்குச் சொப்பனத்திலே தோன்றி: நீ அழைப்பித்த ஸ்திரீயின்நிமித்தம் நீ செத்தாய்; அவள் ஒருவனுடைய மனைவியாயிருக்கிறாளே என்றார்.

3. But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night and said, Behold, you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken [as your own], for she is a man's wife.

4. அபிமெலேக்கு அவளைச் சேராதிருந்தான். ஆகையால் அவன்: ஆண்டவரே, நீதியுள்ள ஜனங்களை அழிப்பீரோ?

4. But Abimelech had not come near her, so he said, Lord, will you slay a people who are just and innocent?

5. இவள் தன் சகோதரி என்று அவன் என்னோடே சொல்லவில்லையா? அவன் தன் சகோதரன் என்று இவளும் சொன்னாளே; உத்தம இருதயத்தோடும் சுத்தமான கைகளோடும் இதைச் செய்தேன் என்று சொன்னான்.

5. Did not the man tell me, She is my sister? And she herself said, He is my brother. In integrity of heart and innocency of hands I have done this.

6. அப்பொழுது தேவன்: உத்தம இருதயத்தோடே நீ இதைச் செய்தாய் என்று நான் அறிந்திருக்கிறேன்; நீ எனக்கு விரோதமாகப் பாவம் செய்யாதபடிக்கு உன்னைத் தடுத்தேன்; ஆகையால், நீ அவளைத் தொட நான் உனக்கு இடங்கொடுக்கவில்லை.

6. Then God said to him in the dream, Yes, I know you did this in the integrity of your heart, for it was I Who kept you back and spared you from sinning against Me; therefore I did not give you occasion to touch her.

7. அந்த மனுஷனுடைய மனைவியை அவனிடத்திற்கு அனுப்பிவிடு; அவன் ஒரு தீர்க்கதரிசி; நீ பிழைக்கும்படிக்கு அவன் உனக்காக வேண்டுதல் செய்வான்; நீ அவளை அனுப்பிவிடாதிருந்தால், நீயும் உன்னைச் சேர்ந்த யாவரும் சாகவே சாவீர்கள் என்று அறிவாயாக என்று சொப்பனத்திலே அவனுக்குச் சொன்னார்.

7. So now restore to the man his wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live. But if you do not restore her [to him], know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours.

8. அபிமெலேக்கு அதிகாலையில் எழுந்து, தன் ஊழியக்காரரையெல்லாம் அழைப்பித்து, இந்தச் சங்கதிகளையெல்லாம் அவர்கள் கேட்கும்படி சொன்னான்; அந்த மனுஷர் மிகவும் பயந்தார்கள்.

8. So Abimelech rose early in the morning and called all his servants and told them all these things; and the men were exceedingly filled with reverence and fear.

9. அப்பொழுது அபிமெலேக்கு ஆபிரகாமை அழைப்பித்து: நீ எங்களுக்கு என்ன காரியஞ்செய்தாய், நீ என்மேலும், என் ராஜ்யத்தின்மேலும் கொடிய பாவம் சுமரப்பண்ணுகிறதற்கு உனக்கு நான் என்ன குற்றம் செய்தேன்? செய்யத்தகாத காரியங்களை என்னிடத்தில் செய்தாயே என்றான்.

9. Then Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, What have you done to us? And how have I offended you that you have brought on me and my kingdom a great sin? You have done to me what ought not to be done [to anyone].

10. பின்னும் அபிமெலேக்கு ஆபிரகாமை நோக்கி: என்னத்தைக் கண்டு நீ இந்தக் காரியத்தைச் செய்தாய் என்றான்.

10. And Abimelech said to Abraham, What did you see [in us] that [justified] you in doing such a thing as this?

11. அதற்கு ஆபிரகாம்: இவ்விடத்தில் தெய்வபயம் இல்லையென்றும், என் மனைவியினிமித்தம் என்னைக் கொன்றுபோடுவார்கள் என்றும் நான் நினைத்தேன்.

11. And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely there is no reverence or fear of God at all in this place, and they will slay me because of my wife.

12. அவள் என் சகோதரி என்பதும் மெய்தான்; அவள் என் தகப்பனுக்குக் குமாரத்தி, என் தாய்க்குக் குமாரத்தியல்ல; அவள் எனக்கு மனைவியானாள்.

12. But truly, she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father but not of my mother; and she became my wife.

13. என் தகப்பன் வீட்டைவிட்டு தேவன் என்னைத் தேசாந்தரியாய்த்திரியும்படி செய்தபோது, நான் அவளை நோக்கி: நாம் போகும் இடமெங்கும், நீ என்னைச் சகோதரன் என்று சொல்வது நீ எனக்குச் செய்யவேண்டிய தயை என்று அவளிடத்தில் சொல்லியிருந்தேன் என்றான்.

13. When God caused me to wander from my father's house, I said to her, This kindness you can show me: at every place we stop, say of me, He is my brother.

14. அப்பொழுது அபிமெலேக்கு ஆடுமாடுகளையும், வேலைக்காரரையும், வேலைக்காரிகளையும் ஆபிரகாமுக்குக் கொடுத்து, அவன் மனைவியாகிய சாராளையும் அவனிடத்தில் திரும்ப ஒப்புவித்தான்.

14. Then Abimelech took sheep and oxen and male and female slaves and gave them to Abraham and restored to him Sarah his wife.

15. பின்னும் அபிமெலேக்கு: இதோ, என் தேசம் உனக்கு முன்பாக இருக்கிறது; உன் பார்வைக்குச் சம்மதியான இடத்திலே குடியிரு என்று சொன்னான்.

15. And Abimelech said, Behold, my land is before you; dwell wherever it pleases you.

16. பின்பு சாராளை நோக்கி: உன் சகோதரனுக்கு ஆயிரம் வெள்ளிக்காசு கொடுத்தேன்; இதோ, உன்னோடிருக்கிற எல்லார் முன்பாகவும், மற்ற யாவர் முன்பாகவும், இது உன் முகத்து முக்காட்டுக்காவதாக என்றான்; இப்படி அவள் கடிந்துகொள்ளப்பட்டாள்.

16. And to Sarah he said, Behold, I have given this brother of yours a thousand pieces of silver; see, it is to compensate you [for all that has occurred] and to vindicate your honor before all who are with you; before all men you are cleared and compensated.

17. ஆபிரகாமுடைய மனைவியாகிய சாராளின் நிமித்தம் கர்த்தர் அபிமெலேக்குடைய வீட்டாரின் கர்ப்பங்களையெல்லாம் அடைத்திருந்தபடியால்,

17. So Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech and his wife and his female slaves, and they bore children,

18. ஆபிரகாம் தேவனை நோக்கி வேண்டிக்கொண்டான்; அப்பொழுது தேவன் அபிமெலேக்கையும், அவன் மனைவியையும், அவன் வேலைக்காரிகளையும் குணமாக்கி, பிள்ளைபெறும்படி அநுக்கிரகம் பண்ணினார்.

18. For the Lord had closed fast the wombs of all in Abimelech's household because of Sarah, Abraham's wife.
