1. அந்த இரண்டு தூதரும் சாயங்காலத்திலே சோதோமுக்கு வந்தார்கள். லோத்து சோதோமின் வாசலிலே உட்கார்ந்திருந்தான். அவர்களைக் கண்டு, லோத்து எழுந்து எதிர்கொண்டு தரைமட்டும் குனிந்து:

1. IT WAS evening when the two angels came to Sodom. Lot was sitting at Sodom's [city] gate. Seeing them, Lot rose up to meet them and bowed to the ground.

2. ஆண்டவன்மார்களே, அடியேனுடைய வீட்டு முகமாய் நீங்கள் திரும்பி, உங்கள் கால்களைக் கழுவி, இராத்தங்கி, காலையில் எழுந்து பிரயாணப்பட்டுப் போகலாம் என்றான். அதற்கு அவர்கள்: அப்படியல்ல, வீதியிலே இராத்தங்குவோம் என்றார்கள்.

2. And he said, My lords, turn aside, I beg of you, into your servant's house and spend the night and bathe your feet. Then you can arise early and go on your way. But they said, No, we will spend the night in the square.

3. அவன் அவர்களை மிகவும் வருந்திக்கேட்டுக்கொண்டான்; அப்பொழுது அவனிடத்திற்குத் திரும்பி, அவன் வீட்டிலே பிரவேசித்தார்கள். அவன் புளிப்பில்லா அப்பங்களைச் சுட்டு, அவர்களுக்கு விருந்துபண்ணினான், அவர்கள் புசித்தார்கள்.

3. [Lot] entreated and urged them greatly until they yielded and [with him] entered his house. And he made them a dinner [with drinking] and had unleavened bread which he baked, and they ate.

4. But before they lay down, the men of the city of Sodom, both young and old, all the men from every quarter, surrounded the house.

5. லோத்தைக் கூப்பிட்டு: இந்த இராத்திரி உன்னிடத்தில் வந்த மனுஷர் எங்கே? நாங்கள் அவர்களை அறியும்படிக்கு அவர்களை எங்களிடத்தில் வெளியே கொண்டுவா என்றார்கள்.

5. And they called to Lot and said, Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us, that we may know (be intimate with) them.

6. அப்பொழுது லோத்து வாசலுக்கு வெளியே வந்து, தனக்குப் பின்னாலே கதவைப் பூட்டி, அவர்களிடத்தில் போய்:

6. And Lot went out of the door to the men and shut the door after him

7. சகோதரரே, இந்த அக்கிரமம் செய்யவேண்டாம்.

7. And said, I beg of you, my brothers, do not behave so wickedly.

8. இதோ, புருஷரை அறியாத இரண்டு குமாரத்திகள் எனக்கு உண்டு; அவர்களை உங்களிடத்திற்கு வெளியே கொண்டுவருகிறேன், அவர்களுக்கு உங்கள் இஷ்டப்படி செய்யுங்கள்; இந்தப் புருஷர் என் கூரையின் நிழலிலே வந்தபடியால், இவர்களுக்கு மாத்திரம் ஒன்றும் செய்யவேண்டாம் என்றான்.

8. Look now, I have two daughters who are virgins; let me, I beg of you, bring them out to you, and you can do as you please with them. But only do nothing to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof.

9. அதற்கு அவர்கள்: அப்பாலே போ; பரதேசியாய் வந்த இவனா நியாயம் பேசுகிறது? இப்பொழுது அவர்களுக்குச் செய்வதைப்பார்க்கிலும் உனக்கு அதிக பொல்லாப்புச் செய்வோம் என்று சொல்லி, லோத்து என்பவனை மிகவும் நெருக்கிக் கதவை உடைக்கக் கிட்டினார்கள்.

9. But they said, Stand back! And they said, This fellow came in to live here temporarily, and now he presumes to be [our] judge! Now we will deal worse with you than with them. So they rushed at and pressed violently against Lot and came close to breaking down the door.

10. அப்பொழுது அந்தப் புருஷர்கள் தங்கள் கைகளை வெளியே நீட்டி, லோத்தைத் தங்கள் அண்டைக்கு வீட்டுக்குள் இழுத்துக்கொண்டு, கதவைப்பூட்டி,

10. But the men [the angels] reached out and pulled Lot into the house to them and shut the door after him.

11. தெருவாசலிலிருந்த சிறியோரும் பெரியோருமாகிய மனிதருக்குக் குருட்டாட்டம் பிடிக்கப்பண்ணினார்கள்; அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் வாசலைத் தேடித்தேடி அலுத்துப்போனார்கள்.

11. And they struck the men who were at the door of the house with blindness [which dazzled them], from the youths to the old men, so that they wearied themselves [groping] to find the door.

12. பின்பு அந்தப் புருஷர் லோத்தை நோக்கி: இவ்விடத்தில் இன்னும் உனக்கு யார் இருக்கிறார்கள்? மருமகனாவது, உன் குமாரராவது, உன் குமாரத்திகளாவது, பட்டணத்தில் உனக்குரிய எவர்களாவது இருந்தால், அவர்களை இந்த ஸ்தலத்திலிருந்து வெளியே அழைத்துக்கொண்டு போ.

12. And the [two] men asked Lot, Have you any others here--sons-in-law or your sons or your daughters? Whomever you have in the city, bring them out of this place,

13. நாங்கள் இந்த ஸ்தலத்தை அழிக்கப்போகிறோம்; இவர்கள் கூக்குரல் கர்த்தருடைய சமூகத்தில் பெரிதாயிருக்கிறது; இதை அழிக்கக் கர்த்தர் எங்களை அனுப்பினார் என்றார்கள்.

13. For we will spoil and destroy [Sodom]; for the outcry and shriek against its people has grown great before the Lord, and He has sent us to destroy it.

14. அப்பொழுது லோத்து புறப்பட்டு, தன் குமாரத்திகளை விவாகம்பண்ணப்போகிற தன் மருமக்கள்மாரோடே பேசி: நீங்கள் எழுந்து இந்த ஸ்தலத்தை விட்டுப் புறப்படுங்கள்; கர்த்தர் இந்தப் பட்டணத்தை அழிக்கப்போகிறார் என்றான்; அவனுடைய மருமக்கள்மாரின் பார்வைக்கு அவன் பரியாசம்பண்ணுகிறதாகக் கண்டது.

14. And Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were to marry his daughters, and said, Up, get out of this place, for the Lord will spoil and destroy this city! But he seemed to his sons-in-law to be [only] joking.

15. கிழக்கு வெளுக்கும்போது அந்தத் தூதர் லோத்தை நோக்கி: பட்டணத்திற்கு வரும் தண்டனையில் நீ அழியாதபடிக்கு எழுந்து, உன் மனைவியையும், இங்கே இருக்கிற உன் இரண்டு குமாரத்திகளையும் அழைத்துக்கொண்டுபோ என்று சொல்லி, அவனைத் துரிதப்படுத்தினார்கள்.

15. When morning came, the angels urged Lot to hurry, saying, Arise, take your wife and two daughters who are here [and be off], lest you [too] be consumed and swept away in the iniquity and punishment of the city.

16. அவன் தாமதித்துக்கொண்டிருக்கும்போது, கர்த்தர் அவன்மேல் வைத்த இரக்கத்தினாலே, அந்தப் புருஷர் அவன் கையையும், அவன் மனைவியின் கையையும், அவன் இரண்டு குமாரத்திகளின் கையையும் பிடித்து, அவனைப் பட்டணத்திற்கு வெளியே கொண்டுபோய் விட்டார்கள்.

16. But while he lingered, the men seized him and his wife and his two daughters by the hand, for the Lord was merciful to him; and they brought him forth and set him outside the city and left him there.

17. அவர்களை வெளியே கொண்டுபோய்விட்டபின்பு, அவர்: உன் ஜீவன் தப்ப ஓடிப்போ, பின்னிட்டுப் பாராதே; இந்தச் சமபூமியில் எங்கும் நில்லாதே; நீ அழியாதபடிக்கு மலைக்கு ஓடிப்போ என்றார்.
லூக்கா 17:31-32

17. And when they had brought them forth, they said, Escape for your life! Do not look behind you or stop anywhere in the whole valley; escape to the mountains [of Moab], lest you be consumed.

18. அதற்கு லோத்து: அப்படியல்ல ஆண்டவரே,

18. And Lot said to them, Oh, not that, my lords!

19. உமது கண்களில் உமது அடியேனுக்குக் கிருபைகிடைத்ததே; என் பிராணனைக் காக்கத் தேவரீர் எனக்குச் செய்த கிருபையைப் பெரிதாக விளங்கப்பண்ணினீர்; மலைக்கு ஓடிப்போக என்னால் முடியாது, தீங்கு என்னைத் தொடரும், நான் மரித்துப்போவேன்.

19. Behold now, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have magnified your kindness and mercy to me in saving my life; but I cannot escape to the mountains, lest the evil overtake me, and I die.

20. அதோ, அந்த ஊர் இருக்கிறதே, நான் அதற்கு ஓடிப்போகத்தக்கதாய் அது கிட்ட இருக்கிறது, சின்னதுமாய் இருக்கிறது; என் பிராணன் பிழைக்க நான் அங்கே ஓடிப்போகட்டும், அது சின்ன ஊர்தானே என்றான்.

20. See now yonder city; it is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one. Oh, let me escape to it! Is it not a little one? And my life will be saved!

21. அதற்கு அவர்: நீ கேட்டுக்கொண்ட ஊரை நான் கவிழ்த்துப்போடாதபடிக்கு, இந்த விஷயத்திலும் உனக்கு அநுக்கிரகம் பண்ணினேன்.

21. And [the angel] said to him, See, I have yielded to your entreaty concerning this thing also; I will not destroy this city of which you have spoken.

22. தீவிரமாய் அங்கே ஓடித் தப்பித்துக்கொள்; நீ அங்கே போய்ச் சேருமட்டும் நான் ஒன்றும் செய்யக்கூடாது என்றார்; ஆகையால் அந்த ஊர் சோவார் என்னப்பட்டது.

22. Make haste and take refuge there, for I cannot do anything until you arrive there. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar [little].

23. லோத்து சோவாருக்குள் வரும்போது பூமியின்மேல் சூரியன் உதித்தது.

23. The sun had risen over the earth when Lot entered Zoar.

24. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் சோதோமின் மேலும் கொமோராவின்மேலும், கர்த்தராலே வானத்திலிருந்து கந்தகத்தையும் அக்கினியையும் வருஷிக்கப்பண்ணி,

24. Then the Lord rained on Sodom and on Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of the heavens.

25. அந்தப் பட்டணங்களையும், அந்தச் சமபூமியனைத்தையும், அந்தப் பட்டணங்களின் எல்லாக் குடிகளையும், பூமியின் பயிரையும் அழித்துப்போட்டார்.

25. He overthrew, destroyed, and ended those cities, and all the valley and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.

26. அவன் மனைவியோ பின்னிட்டுப்பார்த்து, உப்புத்தூண் ஆனாள்.
லூக்கா 17:31

26. But [Lot's] wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

27. விடியற்காலத்தில் ஆபிரகாம் எழுந்து தான் கர்த்தருக்கு முன்பாக நின்ற இடத்திற்குப் போய்,

27. Abraham went up early the next morning to the place where he [only the day before] had stood before the Lord.

28. சோதோம் கொமோரா பட்டணங்களின் திசையையும், சமபூமியாகிய தேசம் முழுவதையும் நோக்கிப் பார்த்தான்; அந்தப் பூமியின் புகை சூளையின் புகையைப்போல எழும்பிற்று.
வெளிப்படுத்தின விசேஷம் 9:2

28. And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the valley, and saw, and behold, the smoke of the country went up like the smoke of a furnace.

29. தேவன் அந்தச் சமபூமியின் பட்டணங்களை அழிக்கும்போது, தேவன் ஆபிரகாமை நினைத்து, லோத்து குடியிருந்த பட்டணங்களைத் தாம் கவிழ்த்துப்போடுகையில், லோத்தை அந்த அழிவின் நடுவிலிருந்து தப்பிப்போகும்படி அனுப்பிவிட்டார்.

29. When God ravaged and destroyed the cities of the plain [of Siddim], He [earnestly] remembered Abraham [imprinted and fixed him indelibly on His mind], and He sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow when He overthrew the cities where Lot lived.

30. பின்பு லோத்து சோவாரிலே குடியிருக்கப் பயந்து, சோவாரை விட்டுப்போய், அவனும் அவனோடேகூட அவனுடைய இரண்டு குமாரத்திகளும் மலையிலே வாசம்பண்ணினார்கள்; அங்கே அவனும் அவனுடைய இரண்டு குமாரத்திகளும் ஒரு கெபியிலே குடியிருந்தார்கள்.

30. And Lot went up out of Zoar and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him, for he feared to dwell in Zoar; and he lived in a cave, he and his two daughters.

31. அப்பொழுது மூத்தவள் இளையவளைப் பார்த்து: நம்முடைய தகப்பன் முதிர்வயதானார், பூமியெங்கும் நடக்கிற முறைமையின்படியே நம்மோடே சேரப்பூமியிலே ஒரு புருஷனும் இல்லை.

31. The elder said to the younger, Our father is aging, and there is not a man on earth to live with us in the customary way.

32. நம்முடைய தகப்பனால் சந்ததி உண்டாகும்படிக்கு, அவருக்கு மதுவைக் குடிக்கக்கொடுத்து, அவரோடே சயனிப்போம் வா என்றாள்.

32. Come, let us make our father drunk with wine, and we will lie with him, so that we may preserve offspring (our race) through our father.

33. அப்படியே அன்று இரவிலே, தங்கள் தகப்பனுக்கு மதுவைக் குடிக்கக் கொடுத்தார்கள். மூத்தவள் போய், தன் தகப்பனோடே சயனித்தாள்: அவள் சயனித்ததையும் எழுந்திருந்ததையும் அவன் உணராதிருந்தான்.

33. And they made their father drunk with wine that night, and the older went in and lay with her father; and he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she arose.

34. மறுநாளிலே மூத்தவள் இளையவளைப் பார்த்து: நேற்று ராத்திரி நான் தகப்பனோடே சயனித்தேன்; இன்று ராத்திரியும் மதுவைக் குடிக்கக்கொடுப்போம், நம்முடைய தகப்பனால் சந்ததி உண்டாகும்படி நீ போய் அவரோடே சயனி என்றாள்.

34. Then the next day the firstborn said to the younger, See here, I lay last night with my father; let us make him drunk with wine tonight also, and then you go in and lie with him, so that we may preserve offspring (our race) through our father.

35. அப்படியே அன்று ராத்திரியிலும் தங்கள் தகப்பனுக்கு மதுவைக் குடிக்கக் கொடுத்தார்கள். அப்பொழுது இளையவள் எழுந்துபோய், அவனோடே சயனித்தாள்; அவள் சயனித்ததையும் எழுந்திருந்ததையும் அவன் உணராதிருந்தான்.

35. And they made their father drunk with wine again that night, and the younger arose and lay with him; and he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she arose.

36. இவ்விதமாய் லோத்தின் குமாரத்திகள் இருவரும் தங்கள் தகப்பனாலே கர்ப்பவதியானார்கள்.

36. Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father.

37. மூத்தவள் ஒரு குமாரனைப்பெற்று, அவனுக்கு மோவாப் என்று பேரிட்டாள்; அவன் இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் இருக்கிற மோவாபியருக்குத் தகப்பன்.

37. The older bore a son, and named him Moab [of a father]; he is the father of the Moabites to this day.

38. இளையவளும் ஒரு குமாரனைப்பெற்று, அவனுக்குப் பென்னம்மி என்று பேரிட்டாள்; அவன் இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் இருக்கிற அம்மோன் புத்திரருக்குத் தகப்பன்.

38. The younger also bore a son and named him Ben-ammi [son of my people]; he is the father of the Ammonites to this day.
