1. சாமுவேல் முதிர்வயதானபோது, தன் குமாரரை இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் நியாயாதிபதிகளாக வைத்தான்.

1. And it cometh to pass, when Samuel [is] aged, that he maketh his sons judges over Israel.

2. அவனுடைய மூத்தகுமாரனுக்குப் பேர் யோவேல், இளையவனுக்குப் பேர் அபியா; அவர்கள் பெயெர்செபாவிலே நியாயாதிபதிகளாயிருந்தார்கள்.

2. And the name of his first-born son is Joel, and the name of his second Abiah, judges in Beer-Sheba:

3. ஆனாலும் அவனுடைய குமாரர் அவன் வழிகளில் நடவாமல், பொருளாசைக்குச் சாய்ந்து, பரிதானம் வாங்கி, நியாயத்தைப் புரட்டினார்கள்.

3. and his sons have not walked in his ways, and turn aside after the dishonest gain, and take a bribe, and turn aside judgment.

4. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலின் மூப்பர் எல்லாரும் கூட்டங்கூடி, ராமாவிலிருந்த சாமுவேலினிடத்தில் வந்து:

4. And all the elders of Israel gather themselves together, and come in unto Samuel to Ramath,

5. இதோ, நீர் முதிர்வயதுள்ளவரானீர்; உம்முடைய குமாரர் உம்முடைய வழிகளில் நடக்கிறதில்லை; ஆகையால் சகலஜாதிகளுக்குள்ளும் இருக்கிறபடி, எங்களை நியாயம் விசாரிக்கிறதற்கு, ஒரு ராஜாவை ஏற்படுத்தவேண்டும் என்றார்கள்.

5. and say unto him, 'Lo, thou hast become aged, and thy sons have not walked in thy ways; now, appoint to us a king, to judge us, like all the nations.'

6. எங்களை நியாயம் விசாரிக்க ஒரு ராஜாவை ஏற்படுத்தும் என்று அவர்கள் சொன்ன வார்த்தை சாமுவேலுக்குத் தகாததாய்க் காணப்பட்டது; ஆகையால் சாமுவேல் கர்த்தரை நோக்கி விண்ணப்பம் பண்ணினான்.

6. And the thing is evil in the eyes of Samuel, when they have said, 'Give to us a king to judge us;' and Samuel prayeth unto Jehovah.

7. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் சாமுவேலை நோக்கி: ஜனங்கள் உன்னிடத்தில் சொல்வதெல்லாவற்றிலும் அவர்கள் சொல்லைக் கேள்; அவர்கள் உன்னைத் தள்ளவில்லை, நான் அவர்களை ஆளாதபடிக்கு, என்னைத்தான் தள்ளினார்கள்.

7. And Jehovah saith unto Samuel, 'Hearken to the voice of the people, to all that they say unto thee, for thee they have not rejected, but Me they have rejected, from reigning over them.

8. நான் அவர்களை எகிப்திலிருந்து புறப்படப்பண்ணின நாள்முதல் இந்நாள்மட்டும் அவர்கள் என்னைவிட்டு, வேறே தேவர்களைச் சேவித்துவந்த தங்கள் எல்லாச் செய்கைகளின்படியும் செய்ததுபோல, அவர்கள் உனக்கும் செய்கிறார்கள்.

8. According to all the works that they have done from the day of My bringing them up out of Egypt, even unto this day, when they forsake Me, and serve other gods -- so they are doing also to thee.

9. இப்பொழுதும் அவர்கள் சொல்லைக்கேள்; ஆனாலும் உன் அபிப்பிராயத்தைக் காட்டும்படி அவர்களை ஆளும் ராஜாவின் காரியம் இன்னது என்று அவர்களுக்குத் திடசாட்சியாய்த் தெரியப்படுத்து என்றார்.

9. And now, hearken to their voice; only, surely thou dost certainly protest to them, and hast declared to them the custom of the king who doth reign over them.'

10. அப்பொழுது சாமுவேல், ஒரு ராஜா வேண்டும் என்று தன்னிடத்தில் கேட்ட ஜனங்களுக்குக் கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தைகளையெல்லாம் சொல்லி:

10. And Samuel speaketh all the words of Jehovah unto the people who are asking from him a king,

11. உங்களை ஆளும் ராஜாவின் காரியம் என்னவென்றால், தன் ரதத்திற்கு முன் ஓடும்படி அவன் உங்கள் குமாரரை எடுத்து, தன் ரதசாரதிகளாகவும் தன் குதிரை வீரராகவும் வைத்துக்கொள்ளுவான்.

11. and saith, 'This is the custom of the king who doth reign over you: Your sons he doth take, and hath appointed for himself among his chariots, and among his horsemen, and they have run before his chariots;

12. ஆயிரம் பேருக்கும் ஐம்பது பேருக்கும் தலைவராகவும், தன் நிலத்தை உழுகிறவர்களாகவும், தன் விளைச்சலை அறுக்கிறவர்களாகவும், தன் யுத்த ஆயுதங்களையும் தன் ரதங்களின் பணிமுட்டுகளையும் பண்ணுகிறவர்களாகவும், அவர்களை வைத்துக்கொள்ளுவான்.

12. also to appoint for himself heads of thousands, and heads of fifties; also to plow his plowing, and to reap his reaping; and to make instruments of his war, and instruments of his charioteer.

13. உங்கள் குமாரத்திகளைப் பரிமளதைலம் செய்கிறவர்களாகவும், சமையல்பண்ணுகிறவர்களாகவும், அப்பம் சுடுகிறவர்களாகவும் வைத்துக்கொள்ளுவான்.

13. 'And your daughters he doth take for perfumers, and for cooks, and for bakers;

14. உங்கள் வயல்களிலும், உங்கள் திராட்சத்தோட்டங்களிலும், உங்கள் ஒலிவத்தோப்புக்களிலும், நல்லவைகளை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு, தன் ஊழியக்காரருக்குக் கொடுப்பான்.

14. and your fields, and your vineyards, and your olive-yards -- the best -- he doth take, and hath given to his servants.

15. உங்கள் தானியத்திலும் உங்கள் திராட்சப்பலனிலும் தசமபாகம் வாங்கி, தன் பிரதானிகளுக்கும் தன் சேவகர்களுக்கும் கொடுப்பான்.

15. And your seed and your vineyards he doth tithe, and hath given to his eunuchs, and to his servants.

16. உங்கள் வேலைக்காரரையும், உங்கள் வேலைக்காரிகளையும், உங்களில் திறமையான வாலிபரையும், உங்கள் கழுதைகளையும் எடுத்து தன்னுடைய வேலைக்கு வைத்துக்கொள்ளுவான்.

16. And your men-servants, and your maid-servants, and your young men -- the best, and your asses, he doth take, and hath prepared for his own work;

17. உங்கள் ஆடுகளிலே பத்தில் ஒன்று எடுத்துக்கொள்ளுவான்; நீங்கள் அவனுக்கு வேலையாட்களாவீர்கள்.

17. your flock he doth tithe, and ye are to him for servants.

18. நீங்கள் தெரிந்துகொண்ட உங்கள் ராஜாவினிமித்தம் அந்நாளிலே முறையிடுவீர்கள்; ஆனாலும் கர்த்தர் அந்நாளிலே உங்களுக்குச் செவிகொடுக்கமாட்டார் என்றான்.

18. And ye have cried out in that day because of the king whom ye have chosen for yourselves, and Jehovah doth not answer you in that day.'

19. ஜனங்கள் சாமுவேலின் சொல்லைக் கேட்க மனதில்லாமல்: அப்படியல்ல, எங்களுக்கு ஒரு ராஜா இருக்கத்தான் வேண்டும்.

19. And the people refuse to hearken to the voice of Samuel, and say, 'Nay, but a king is over us,

20. சகல ஜாதிகளையும்போல நாங்களும் இருப்போம்; எங்கள் ராஜா எங்களை நியாயம் விசாரித்து, எங்களுக்கு முன்பாகப் புறப்பட்டு, எங்கள் யுத்தங்களை நடத்தவேண்டும் என்றார்கள்.

20. and we have been, even we, like all the nations; and our king hath judged us, and gone out before us, and fought our battles.'

21. சாமுவேல் ஜனங்களின் வார்த்தைகளையெல்லாம் கேட்டு, அவைகளைக் கர்த்தரிடத்தில் தெரியப்படுத்தினான்.

21. And Samuel heareth all the words of the people, and speaketh them in the ears of Jehovah;

22. கர்த்தர் சாமுவேலை நோக்கி: நீ அவர்கள் சொல்லைக் கேட்டு, அவர்களை ஆள ஒரு ராஜாவை ஏற்படுத்து என்றார்; அப்பொழுது சாமுவேல் இஸ்ரவேல் ஜனங்களைப் பார்த்து: அவரவர் தங்கள் ஊர்களுக்குப் போகலாம் என்றான்.

22. and Jehovah saith unto Samuel, 'Hearken to their voice, and thou hast caused to reign over them a king.' And Samuel saith unto the men of Israel, 'Go ye each to his city.'
