1. அப்படியே கீரியாத்யாரீமின் மனுஷர் வந்து, கர்த்தருடைய பெட்டியை எடுத்து, மேட்டின் மேலிருக்கிற அபினதாபின் வீட்டிலே கொண்டுவந்து வைத்து, கர்த்தருடைய பெட்டியைக் காக்கும்படிக்கு, அவன் குமாரனாகிய எலெயாசாரைப் பரிசுத்தப்படுத்தினார்கள்.

1. The men of Kiriath-jearim came and took the special box of the Lord and brought it to the house of Abinadab on the hill. They set apart his son Eleazar to keep the special box of the Lord.

2. பெட்டி கீரியாத்யாரீமிலே அநேகநாள் தங்கியிருந்தது; இருபது வருஷம் அங்கேயே இருந்தது; இஸ்ரவேல் குடும்பத்தாரெல்லாரும் கர்த்தரை நினைத்து, புலம்பிக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

2. The special box stayed in Kiriathjearim a long time, for it was twenty years. And all the family of Israel cried with sorrow for the Lord.

3. அப்பொழுது சாமுவேல் இஸ்ரவேல் குடும்பத்தார் யாவரையும் நோக்கி: நீங்கள் உங்கள் முழு இருதயத்தோடும் கர்த்தரிடத்தில் திரும்புகிறவர்களானால், அந்நிய தேவர்களையும் அஸ்தரோத்தையும் உங்கள் நடுவிலிருந்து விலக்கி, உங்கள் இருதயத்தைக் கர்த்தருக்கு நேராக்கி, அவர் ஒருவருக்கே ஆராதனை செய்யுங்கள்; அப்பொழுது அவர் உங்களைப் பெலிஸ்தருடைய கைக்கு நீங்கலாக்கிவிடுவார் என்றான்.

3. Then Samuel said to all the family of Israel, 'Return to the Lord with all your heart. Put away the strange gods and the false goddess Ashtaroth from among you. Turn your hearts to the Lord and worship Him alone. Then He will save you from the Philistines.'

4. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் பாகால்களையும் அஸ்தரோத்தையும் விலக்கிவிட்டு, கர்த்தர் ஒருவருக்கே ஆராதனை செய்தார்கள்.

4. So the people of Israel put away from among them the false gods of Baal and Ashtaroth and worshiped the Lord alone.

5. பின்பு சாமுவேல்: நான் உங்களுக்காகக் கர்த்தரை மன்றாடும்படிக்கு, இஸ்ரவேலர் எல்லாரையும் மிஸ்பாவிலே கூட்டுங்கள் என்றான்.

5. Then Samuel said, 'Gather all Israel together at Mizpah, and I will pray to the Lord for you.'

6. அவர்கள் அப்படியே மிஸ்பாவிலே கூடிவந்து தண்ணீர் மொண்டு, கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் ஊற்றி, அன்றையதினம் உபவாசம்பண்ணி, கர்த்தருக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் பாவஞ்செய்தோம் என்று அங்கே சொன்னார்கள்; மிஸ்பாவிலே சாமுவேல் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரை நியாயம் விசாரித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தான்.

6. So they gathered at Mizpah. They got water and poured it out before the Lord as a gift, and did not eat that day. They said there, 'We have sinned against the Lord.' And Samuel judged the people of Israel at Mizpah.

7. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் மிஸ்பாவிலே கூடிவந்ததைப் பெலிஸ்தர் கேள்விப்பட்டபோது, பெலிஸ்தரின் அதிபதிகள் இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு விரோதமாக எதிர்த்து வந்தார்கள்; அதை இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் கேட்டு, பெலிஸ்தரினிமித்தம் பயப்பட்டு,

7. The Philistines heard that the people of Israel had gathered at Mizpah, so the leaders of the Philistines went to battle against them. When the people of Israel heard about it, they were afraid of the Philistines.

8. சாமுவேலை நோக்கி: நம்முடைய தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் எங்களைப் பெலிஸ்தரின் கைக்கு நீங்கலாக்கி ரட்சிக்கும்படிக்கு, எங்களுக்காக அவரை நோக்கி ஓயாமல் வேண்டிக்கொள்ளும் என்றார்கள்.

8. The Israelites said to Samuel, 'Do not stop crying to the Lord our God for us, that He may save us from the Philistines.'

9. அப்பொழுது சாமுவேல் பால்குடிக்கிற ஒரு ஆட்டுக்குட்டியைப் பிடித்து, அதைக் கர்த்தருக்குச் சர்வாங்க தகனபலியாகச் செலுத்தி, இஸ்ரவேலுக்காகக் கர்த்தரை நோக்கி வேண்டிக்கொண்டான்; கர்த்தர் அவனுக்கு மறுமொழி அருளிச்செய்தார்.

9. Samuel took a young lamb and gave it as a whole burnt gift to the Lord. Samuel cried to the Lord for Israel, and the Lord answered him.

10. சாமுவேல் சர்வாங்க தகனபலியைச் செலுத்துகையில், பெலிஸ்தர் இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் யுத்தம்பண்ண நெருங்கினார்கள்; கர்த்தர் மகா பெரிய இடிமுழக்கங்களைப் பெலிஸ்தர்மேல் அந்நாளிலே முழங்கப்பண்ணி, அவர்களைக் கலங்கடித்ததினால், அவர்கள் இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு முன்பாகப் பட்டு விழுந்தார்கள்.

10. As Samuel was burning the gift to the Lord, the Philistines came near to battle against Israel. But the Lord made a loud thunder that day against the Philistines, making them afraid. So they lost the battle with Israel.

11. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலர் மிஸ்பாவிலிருந்து பெலிஸ்தரைப் பின்தொடர்ந்துபோய், பெத்காரீம் பள்ளத்தாக்குமட்டும் அவர்களை முறிய அடித்தார்கள்.

11. The men of Israel left Mizpah and went after the Philistines, killing them almost as far as Bethcar.

12. அப்பொழுது சாமுவேல் ஒரு கல்லை எடுத்து, மிஸ்பாவுக்கும் சேணுக்கும் நடுவாக நிறுத்தி, இம்மட்டும் கர்த்தர் எங்களுக்கு உதவிசெய்தார் என்று சொல்லி, அதற்கு எபெனேசர் என்று பேரிட்டான்.

12. Then Samuel took a stone and set it between Mizpah and Shen. He gave it the name Ebenezer, saying, 'The Lord has helped us this far.'

13. இந்தப்பிரகாரம் பெலிஸ்தர் அப்புறம் இஸ்ரவேலின் எல்லையிலே வராதபடிக்குத் தாழ்த்தப்பட்டார்கள்; சாமுவேலின் நாளெல்லாம் கர்த்தருடைய கை பெலிஸ்தருக்கு விரோதமாய் இருந்தது.

13. So the Philistines were beaten. They did not come into the land of Israel again. And the hand of the Lord was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel's life.

14. பெலிஸ்தர் இஸ்ரவேல் கையிலிருந்து பிடித்திருந்த எக்ரோன் துவக்கிக் காத்மட்டுமுள்ள பட்டணங்களும் இஸ்ரவேலுக்குத் திரும்பக் கிடைத்தது; அவைகளையும் அவைகளின் எல்லைகளையும் இஸ்ரவேலர் பெலிஸ்தர் கையில் இராதபடிக்கு, விடுவித்துக்கொண்டார்கள்; இஸ்ரவேலுக்கும் எமோரியருக்கும் சமாதானம் உண்டாயிருந்தது.

14. The cities the Philistines had taken from Israel were returned, from Ekron to Gath. Israel saved their land from the Philistines. So there was peace between Israel and the Amorites.

15. சாமுவேல் உயிரோடிருந்த நாளெல்லாம் இஸ்ரவேலை நியாயம் விசாரித்தான்.

15. Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.

16. அவன் வருஷாவருஷம் புறப்பட்டு, பெத்தேலையும் கில்காலையும் மிஸ்பாவையும் சுற்றிப்போய், அவ்விடங்களிலெல்லாம் இஸ்ரவேலை நியாயம் விசாரித்தபின்பு,

16. Every year he went around to Bethel, Gilgal and Mizpah, and he judged Israel in all these places.

17. அவன் ராமாவுக்குத் திரும்பிவருவான், அவனுடைய வீடு அங்கே இருந்தது; அங்கே இஸ்ரவேலை நியாயம் விசாரித்து, அவ்விடத்தில் கர்த்தருக்கு ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக் கட்டினான்.

17. Then he would return to Ramah, for his home was there. He judged Israel there also, and built an altar to the Lord.
