1. அப்பொழுது தாண்முதல் பெயெர்செபாமட்டுமுள்ள இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் அனைவரும் கீலேயாத் தேசத்தாருடன் மிஸ்பாவிலே கர்த்தருக்கு முன்பாக ஏகோபித்து சபையாகக் கூடினார்கள்.

1. And all the children of Israel went out, and all the congregation was gathered as one man, from Dan even to Beersheba, and in the land of Gilead, to the Lord at Mizpah.

2. சகல ஜனங்களின் அதிபதிகளும், இஸ்ரவேலின் சகல கோத்திரத்தாரும் தேவனுடைய ஜனமாகிய சபையாகக் கூடி நின்றார்கள்; அவர்கள் பட்டயம் உருவுகிற நாலு லட்சம் காலாட்கள்.

2. And all the tribes of Israel stood before the Lord in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen that drew [the] sword.

3. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் மிஸ்பாவுக்கு வந்த செய்தியைப் பென்யமீன் புத்திரர் கேள்விப்பட்டார்கள்; அந்த அக்கிரமம் நடந்தது எப்படி, சொல்லுங்கள் என்று இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் கேட்டார்கள்.

3. And the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel had gone up to Mizpah: and the children of Israel came and said, Tell us, where did this wickedness take place?

4. அப்பொழுது கொலை செய்யப்பட்ட ஸ்திரீயின் புருஷனாகிய லேவியன் மாறுத்தரமாக: நானும் என் மறுமனையாட்டியும் பென்யமீன் நாட்டிலுள்ள கிபியாவிலே இராத்தங்க வந்தோம்.

4. And the Levite, the husband of the woman that was slain, answered and said, I and my concubine went to Gibeah of Benjamin to lodge.

5. அப்பொழுது கிபியாபட்டணத்தார் எனக்கு விரோதமாய் எழும்பி, என்னைக் கொலை செய்ய நினைத்து, நான் இருந்த வீட்டை இராத்திரியிலே வளைந்து கொண்டு, என் மறுமனையாட்டியை அவமானப்படுத்தினார்கள்; அதினாலே அவள் செத்துப்போனாள்.

5. And the men of Gibeah rose up against me, and surrounded the house by night against me; they wanted to kill me, and they have humbled my concubine, and she is dead.

6. ஆகையால் இஸ்ரவேலிலே அவர்கள் இப்படிப்பட்ட முறைகேட்டையும் மதிகேட்டையும் செய்தபடியினால், நான் என் மறுமனையாட்டியைப் பிடித்துத் துண்டித்து, இஸ்ரவேலின் சுதந்தரமான சகல நாடுகளுக்கும் அனுப்பினேன்.

6. And I laid hold of my concubine, and divided her in pieces, and sent [the parts] into every coast of the inheritance of the children of Israel; for they have committed lewdness and abomination in Israel.

7. நீங்கள் எல்லாரும் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரராமே, இங்கே ஆலோசித்துத் தீர்மானம்பண்ணுங்கள் என்றான்.

7. Behold, all you are children of Israel; and consider and take counsel here among yourselves.

8. அப்பொழுது எல்லா ஜனங்களும் ஏகமாய் எழும்பி: நம்மில் ஒருவரும் தன் கூடாரத்திற்குப் போகவும்படாது, ஒருவனும் தன் வீட்டிற்குத் திரும்பவும்படாது.

8. And all the people rose up as one man, saying, None of us shall return to his tent, and none of us shall return to his house.

9. இப்பொழுது கிபியாவுக்குச் செய்யவேண்டியது என்னவென்றால்: சீட்டுப்போட்டு அதற்கு விரோதமாகப் போவோம்.

9. And now this is the thing which shall be done in Gibeah: we will go up against it by lot.

10. பென்யமீன் கோத்திரமான கிபியா பட்டணத்தார் இஸ்ரவேலிலே செய்த எல்லா மதிகேட்டுக்கும் தக்கதாக ஜனங்கள் வந்து செய்யும்படிக்கு, நாம் தானிய தவசங்களைச் சம்பாதிக்கிறதற்கு, இஸ்ரவேல் கோத்திரங்களிலெல்லாம் நூறு பேரில் பத்துப்பேரையும், ஆயிரம் பேரில் நூறுபேரையும், பதினாயிரம் பேரில் ஆயிரம்பேரையும் தெரிந்தெடுப்போம் என்றார்கள்.

10. Moreover we will take ten men for a hundred for all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred for a thousand, and a thousand for ten thousand, to take provision, to cause them to come to Gibeah of Benjamin, to do to it according to all the abomination which they have done in Israel.

11. இஸ்ரவேலரெல்லாரும் ஒன்றுபோல ஏகோபித்துப் பட்டணத்திற்கு முன்பாகக் கூட்டங்கூடி,

11. And all the men of Israel were gathered to the city as one man.

12. அங்கே இருந்த இஸ்ரவேலின் கோத்திரத்தார் பென்யமீன் கோத்திரமெங்கும் ஆட்களை அனுப்பி: உங்களுக்குள்ளே நடந்த இந்த அக்கிரமம் என்ன?

12. And the tribes of Israel sent men through the whole tribe of Benjamin, saying, What is this wickedness that has been done among you?

13. இப்பொழுது கிபியாவில் இருக்கிற பேலியாளின் மக்களாகிய அந்த மனுஷரை நாங்கள் கொன்று, பொல்லாப்பை இஸ்ரவேலை விட்டு விலக்கும்படிக்கு, அவர்களை ஒப்புக்கொடுங்கள் என்று சொல்லச் சொன்னார்கள்; பென்யமீன் புத்திரர் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரராகிய தங்கள் சகோதரரின் சொல்லைக் கேட்க மனமில்லாமல்,

13. Now then give up the men, the sons of transgressors that are in Gibeah, and we will put them to death, and purge out [the] wickedness from Israel. But the children of Benjamin consented not to hearken to the voice of their brethren the children of Israel.

14. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரோடு யுத்தம்பண்ணப் புறப்படும்படிக்கு, பட்டணங்களிலிருந்து கிபியாவுக்கு வந்து கூடினார்கள்.

14. And the children of Benjamin were gathered from their cities to Gibeah, to go forth to fight with the children of Israel.

15. கிபியாவின் குடிகளிலே தெரிந்து கொள்ளப்பட்ட எழுநூறு பேரையல்லாமல் அந்நாளில் பட்டணங்களிலிருந்து வந்து கூடின பட்டயம் உருவுகிற மனுஷரின் இலக்கம் இருபத்தாறாயிரம்பேர் என்று தொகையிடப்பட்டது.

15. And the children of Benjamin from their cities were numbered in that day, twenty-three thousand, [every] man drawing a sword, besides the inhabitants of Gibeah, who were numbered seven hundred chosen men of all the people, able to use both hands alike.

16. அந்த ஜனங்களெல்லாருக்குள்ளும் தெரிந்துகொள்ளப்பட்ட இடது கை வாக்கான எழுநூறுபேர் இருந்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் அனைவரும் ஒரு மயிரிழையும் தப்பாதபடிக்குக் கவண்கல் எறிவார்கள்.

16. All these could sling with stones at a hair, and not miss.

17. பென்யமீன் கோத்திரத்தையல்லாமல் இஸ்ரவேலிலே பட்டயம் உருவுகிற மனுஷர் நாலு லட்சம்பேர் என்று தொகையிடப்பட்டது; இவர்களெல்லாரும் யுத்தவீரராயிருந்தார்கள்.

17. And the men of Israel, exclusive of Benjamin, were numbered four hundred thousand men that drew [the] sword; all these were men of war.

18. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரான அவர்கள் எழும்பி, தேவனுடைய வீட்டிற்குப் போய்: எங்களில் யார் முந்திப் போய் பென்யமீன் புத்திரரோடு யுத்தம்பண்ணவேண்டும் என்று தேவனிடத்தில் விசாரித்தார்கள்; அதற்குக் கர்த்தர்: யூதா முந்திப் போகவேண்டும் என்றார்.

18. And they arose and went up to Bethel, and inquired of God. And the children of Israel said, Who shall go up for us first to fight with the children of Benjamin? And the Lord said, Judah shall go up first as leader.

19. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் காலமே எழுந்து புறப்பட்டு, கிபியாவுக்கு எதிராகப் பாளயமிறங்கினார்கள்.

19. And the children of Israel rose up in the morning, and encamped against Gibeah.

20. பின்பு இஸ்ரவேல் மனுஷர் பென்யமீனோடு யுத்தம்பண்ணப் புறப்பட்டு, கிபியாவிலே அவர்களுக்கு எதிராகப் போர்செய்ய அணிவகுத்து நின்றார்கள்.

20. And they went out, all the men of Israel, to fight with Benjamin, and engaged with them at Gibeah.

21. ஆனாலும் பென்யமீன் புத்திரர் கிபியாவிலிருந்து புறப்பட்டு, இஸ்ரவேலில் இருபத்தீராயிரம்பேரை அன்றையதினம் தரையிலே விழும்படி சங்கரித்தார்கள்.

21. And the sons of Benjamin went forth from Gibeah, and they destroyed in Israel on that day twenty-two thousand men down to the ground.

22. இஸ்ரவேல் ஜனங்கள் தங்களைத் திடப்படுத்திக்கொண்டு, முதல் நாளில் அணிவகுத்து நின்ற ஸ்தலத்திலே, மறுபடியும் போர் செய்ய அணிவகுத்து நின்றார்கள்.

22. And the men of Israel strengthened themselves, and again engaged in battle in the place where they had engaged on the first day.

23. அவர்கள் போய், கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் சாயங்காலமட்டும் அழுது, எங்கள் சகோதரராகிய பென்யமீன் புத்திரரோடே திரும்பவும் யுத்தம் கலக்கப்போவோமா என்று கர்த்தரிடத்தில் விசாரித்தார்கள்; அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர்: அவர்களுக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் போங்கள் என்றார்.

23. And the children of Israel went up, and wept before the Lord till evening, and inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall we again draw near to battle with our brethren the children of Benjamin? And the Lord said, Go up against them.

24. மறுநாளிலே இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் பென்யமீன் புத்திரர் கிட்டச் சேருகிறபோது,

24. And the children of Israel advanced against the children of Benjamin on the second day.

25. பென்யமீன் கோத்திரத்தாரும் அந்நாளிலே கிபியாவிலிருந்து அவர்களுக்கு எதிராகப் புறப்பட்டுவந்து, பின்னும் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரில் பட்டயம் உருவுகிற பதினெண்ணாயிரம்பேரைத் தரையிலே விழும்படி சங்கரித்தார்கள்.

25. And the children of Benjamin went forth to meet them from Gibeah on the second day, and destroyed of the children of Israel yet eighteen thousand more men down to the ground: all these drew [the] sword.

26. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரராகிய சகல ஜனங்களும் புறப்பட்டு, தேவனுடைய வீட்டிற்குப் போய், அங்கே கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் அழுது, தரித்திருந்து, அன்று சாயங்காலமட்டும் உபவாசித்து, கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் சர்வாங்க தகனபலிகளையும் சமாதானபலிகளையும் இட்டு,

26. And the children of Israel and all the people went up, and came to Bethel. And they wept, and sat there before the Lord; and they fasted on that day until evening, and offered whole burnt offerings and perfect sacrifices before the Lord,

27. கர்த்தரிடத்தில் விசாரித்தார்கள்; தேவனுடைய உடன்படிக்கையின் பெட்டி அந்நாட்களில் அங்கே இருந்தது.

27. for the ark of the Lord God was there in those days,

28. ஆரோனின் குமாரனாகிய எலெயாசாரின் மகன் பினெகாஸ் அந்நாட்களில் அவருடைய சந்நிதியில் நின்றான்; எங்கள் சகோதரராகிய பென்யமீன் புத்திரரோடே பின்னும் யுத்தம்பண்ணப் புறப்படலாமா புறப்படலாகாதா என்று அவர்கள் விசாரித்தார்கள்; அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர்: போங்கள்; நாளைக்கு அவர்களை உங்கள் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுப்பேன் என்றார்.

28. and Phineas the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron stood before it in those days; and the children of Israel inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall we yet again go forth to fight with our brethren the sons of Benjamin? And the Lord said, Go up, for tomorrow I will give them into your hands.

29. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் கிபியாவைச்சுற்றிலும் பதிவிடையாட்களை வைத்து,

29. And the children of Israel set an ambush against Gibeah round about it.

30. மூன்றாம் நாளிலே பென்யமீன் புத்திரருக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் போய், முன் இரண்டு தரம் செய்ததுபோல, கிபியாவுக்குச் சமீபமாய்ப் போருக்கு அணிவகுத்து நின்றார்கள்.

30. And the children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and arrayed themselves against Gibeah as before.

31. அப்பொழுது பென்யமீன் புத்திரர் ஜனத்திற்கு விரோதமாய்ப் புறப்பட்டுப் பட்டணத்தை விட்டு, அப்பாலே வந்து, வெளியிலே பெத்தேலுக்கும் கிபியாவுக்கும் போகிற இரண்டு வழிகளில் இஸ்ரவேல் ஜனத்தில் ஏறக்குறைய முப்பதுபேரை, முதல் இரண்டுதரம் செய்ததுபோல, வெட்டவும் கொல்லவும் தொடங்கினார்கள்.

31. And the children of Benjamin went out to meet the people, and were all drawn out of the city, and began to strike and kill the people as before in the roads, one of which goes up to Bethel, and one to Gibeah in the field, about thirty men of Israel.

32. முன்போல நமக்கு முன்பாக முறிய அடிக்கப்படுகிறார்கள் என்று பென்யமீன் புத்திரர் சொன்னார்கள்; இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரோ: அவர்களைப் பட்டணத்தை விட்டு அப்பாலேயிருக்கிற வழிகளிலே வரப்பண்ணும்படிக்கு, நாம் ஓடவேண்டும் என்று சொல்லியிருந்தார்கள்.

32. And the children of Benjamin said, They fall before us as at the first. But the children of Israel said, Let us flee, and draw them out from the city into the roads; and they did so.

33. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் மனுஷர் எல்லாரும் தங்கள் ஸ்தானத்திலிருந்து எழும்பி, பாகால்தாமாரிலே யுத்தத்திற்கு அணிவகுத்து நின்றார்கள்; இஸ்ரவேலரில் கிபியாவின் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே பதிவிருந்தவர்கள் தங்கள் ஸ்தானத்திலிருந்து புறப்பட்டு,

33. And all the men rose up out of their places, and engaged in Baal Tamar. Then Israel's men in ambush advanced from their place from Maraagabe.

34. அவர்களில் எல்லா இஸ்ரவேலிலும் தெரிந்துகொள்ளப்பட்ட பதினாயிரம்பேர் கிபியாவுக்கு எதிரே வந்தார்கள்; யுத்தம் பலத்தது; ஆனாலும் தங்களுக்கு விக்கினம் நேரிட்டது என்று அவர்கள் அறியாதிருந்தார்கள்.

34. And there came over against Gibeah ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel; and the fight was severe; and they knew not that evil was coming upon them.

35. கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு முன்பாகப் பென்யமீனை முறிய அடித்தார்; அந்நாளிலே இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் பென்யமீனிலே பட்டயம் உருவுகிற ஆட்களாகிய இருபத்தையாயிரத்து நூறுபேரைச் சங்கரித்தார்கள்.

35. And the Lord struck Benjamin before the children of Israel; and the children of Israel destroyed of Benjamin in that day a hundred and twenty-five thousand men: all these drew [the] sword.

36. இஸ்ரவேலர் கிபியாவுக்கு அப்பாலே வைத்த பதிவிடையை நம்பியிருந்தபடியினாலே, பென்யமீனருக்கு இடம் கொடுத்தார்கள்; அதினாலே அவர்கள் முறிய அடிக்கப்படுகிறார்கள் என்று பென்யமீன் புத்திரருக்குக் காணப்பட்டது.

36. And the children of Benjamin saw that they were smitten; and the men of Israel gave place to Benjamin, because they trusted in the men in ambush which they had prepared against Gibeah.

37. அப்பொழுது பதிவிடையிருந்தவர்கள் தீவிரமாய்க் கிபியாவின்மேல் பாய்ந்து பரவி, பட்டணத்தில் இருக்கிறவர்களெல்லாரையும் பட்டயக்கருக்கினால் வெட்டினார்கள்.

37. And when they retreated, then those in ambush rose up, and they moved toward Gibeah, and the whole ambush came forth, and they struck the city with the edge of the sword.

38. பட்டணத்திலிருந்து மகா பெரிய புகையை எழும்பப்பண்ணுவதே இஸ்ரவேலருக்கும் பதிவிடைக்காரருக்கும் குறிக்கப்பட்ட அடையாளமாயிருந்தது.

38. And the children of Israel had a signal of battle with those [waiting] in ambush, that they should send up a signal of smoke from the city.

39. ஆகையால் இஸ்ரவேலர் யுத்தத்திலே பின்வாங்கினபோது, பென்யமீனர்: முந்தின யுத்தத்தில் நடந்ததுபோல, அவர்கள் நமக்கு முன்பாக முறிய அடிக்கப்படுகிறார்களே என்று சொல்லி, இஸ்ரவேலரில் ஏறக்குறைய முப்பதுபேரை வெட்டவும் கொல்லவும் தொடங்கினார்கள்.

39. And the children of Israel saw that those in ambush had seized Gibeah, and they stood in line of battle; and Benjamin began to strike down wounded ones among the men of Israel, about thirty men; for they said, Surely they fall again before us, as in the first battle.

40. பட்டணத்திலிருந்து புகையானது ஸ்தம்பம்போல உயர எழும்பினபோது, பென்யமீனர் பின்னாகப் பார்த்தார்கள்; இதோ, பட்டணத்தின் அக்கினி ஜூவாலை வானபரியந்தம் எழும்பிற்று.

40. And the signal went up increasingly over the city as a pillar of smoke. And Benjamin looked behind him, and behold the destruction of the city went up to heaven.

41. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலர் திரும்பிக் கொண்டார்கள்; பென்யமீன் மனுஷரோ, தங்களுக்கு விக்கினம் நேரிட்டதைக் கண்டு திகைத்து.

41. And the men of Israel turned back, and the men of Benjamin panicked, because they saw that evil had come upon them.

42. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரைவிட்டு, வனாந்தரத்திற்குப் போகிற வழிக்கு நேராய்த் திரும்பி ஓடிப்போனார்கள்; ஆனாலும் யுத்தம் அவர்களைத் தொடர்ந்தது; பட்டணங்களில் இருந்தவர்களும் தங்கள் நடுவே அகப்பட்டவர்களைக் கொன்றுபோட்டார்கள்.

42. And they turned to the way of the wilderness from before the children of Israel, and fled: but the battle overtook them, and those from the cities destroyed them in the midst of them.

43. இப்படியே பென்யமீனரை வளைந்து கொண்டு துரத்தி, கிபியாவுக்குக் கிழக்குப்புறமாக வருமட்டும், அவர்களை லேசாய் மிதித்துப்போட்டார்கள்.

43. And they cut down Benjamin, and pursued him from Nua closely till they came opposite Gibeah on the east.

44. இதினால் பென்யமீனரிலே பதினெண்ணாயிரம்பேர் விழுந்தார்கள்; அவர்களெல்லாரும் பலவான்களாயிருந்தார்கள்.

44. And there fell of Benjamin eighteen thousand men: all these [were] men of might.

45. மற்றவர்கள் விலகி, வனாந்தரத்தில் இருக்கிற ரிம்மோன் கன்மலைக்கு ஓடிப்போனார்கள்; அவர்களில் இன்னும் ஐயாயிரம்பேரை வழிகளிலே கொன்று, மற்றவர்களைக் கீதோம் மட்டும் பின்தொடர்ந்து, அவர்களில் இரண்டாயிரம்பேரை வெட்டிப்போட்டார்கள்.

45. And the rest turned, and fled to the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon; and the children of Israel picked off of them five thousand men; and the children of Israel went down after them as far as Gidom, and they killed two thousand of them.

46. இவ்விதமாய் பென்யமீனரில் அந்நாளில் விழுந்தவர்களெல்லாரும் இருபத்தையாயிரம்பேர்; அவர்களெல்லாரும் பட்டயம் உருவுகிற பலவான்களாயிருந்தார்கள்.

46. And all that fell of Benjamin were twenty-five thousand men that drew [the] sword in that day: all these were men of might.

47. அறுநூறுபேர் திரும்பிக்கொண்டு ஓடி, வனாந்தரத்திலிருக்கிற ரிம்மோன் கன்மலைக்குப் போய், ரிம்மோன் கன்மலையிலே நாலு மாதம் இருந்தார்கள்.

47. And the rest turned, and fled to the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, even six hundred men; and they sojourned four months in the rock of Rimmon.

48. இஸ்ரவேலரோ பென்யமீன் புத்திரர் மேல் திரும்பி, பட்டணத்தில் மனுஷர் தொடங்கி மிருகங்கள்மட்டும் கண்டவைகள் எல்லாவற்றையும் பட்டயக்கருக்கினால் வெட்டி, கண்ட பட்டணங்களையெல்லாம் அக்கினியால் கொளுத்திப் போட்டார்கள்.

48. And the children of Israel returned to the children of Benjamin, and struck them with the edge of the sword from the city of Methla, even to the cattle, and everything that was found in all the cities: and they burned with fire the cities they found.
