1. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் யோசுவாவை நோக்கி: நீ பயப்படாமலும் கலங்காமலும் இரு; நீ யுத்த ஜனங்கள் யாவரையும் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு எழுந்து, ஆயிபட்டணத்தின்மேல் போ, இதோ, ஆயியின் ராஜாவையும். அவன் ஜனத்தையும் அவன் பட்டணத்தையும் அவன் நாட்டையும் உன் கையிலே ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தேன்.

1. The LORD said to Joshua, 'Do not be afraid or discouraged. Take the whole military force with you and go attack Ai. Look, I have handed over to you the king of Ai, his people, city, and land.

2. Treat Ai and its king as you did Jericho and its king; you may plunder its spoil and livestock for yourselves. Set an ambush behind the city.'

3. அப்பொழுது ஆயியின்மேல் போக, யோசுவாவும் சகல யுத்தஜனங்களும் எழுந்து புறப்பட்டார்கள்; யோசுவா யுத்தவீரரான முப்பதினாயிரம்பேரைத் தெரிந்தெடுத்து, இராத்திரியிலே அவர்களை அனுப்பி,

3. So Joshua and the whole military force set out to attack Ai. Joshua selected 30,000 fighting men and sent them out at night.

4. அவர்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டதாவது: நீங்கள் பட்டணத்தின் பின்னாலே பதிவிருக்கவேண்டும்; பட்டணத்துக்கு வெகுதூரமாய்ப் போகாமல், எல்லாரும் ஆயத்தமாயிருங்கள்.

4. He commanded them: 'Pay attention. Lie in ambush behind the city, not too far from it, and all of you be ready.

5. நானும் என்னோடிருக்கிற சகல ஜனங்களும் பட்டணத்தண்டையில் கிட்டிச் சேருவோம்; அவர்கள் முன்போல எங்களுக்கு எதிராகப் புறப்பட்டு வரும்போது, அவர்களுக்கு முன்னாக நாங்கள் ஓடிப்போவோம்.

5. Then I and all the people who are with me will approach the city. When they come out against us as they did the first time, we will flee from them.

6. அப்பொழுது அவர்கள்; முன்போல நமக்கு முன்னாக முறிந்து ஓடிப்போகிறார்கள் என்று சொல்லி, எங்களைத் துரத்தப் புறப்படுவார்கள்; நாங்களோ அவர்களைப் பட்டணத்தைவிட்டு இப்பாலே வரப்பண்ணுமட்டும், அவர்களுக்கு முன்னாக ஓடுவோம்.

6. They will come after us until we have drawn them away from the city, for they will say, 'They are fleeing from us as before.' While we are fleeing from them,

7. அப்பொழுது நீங்கள் பதிவிலிருந்து எழும்பிவந்து, பட்டணத்தைப் பிடிக்கவேண்டும்; உங்கள் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் அதை உங்கள் கைகளில் ஒப்புக்கொடுப்பார்.

7. you are to come out of your ambush and seize the city, for the LORD your God has handed it over to you.

8. நீங்கள் பட்டணத்தைப் பிடிக்கும்போது, அதைத் தீக்கொளுத்திப்போடுங்கள்; கர்த்தருடைய சொற்படி செய்யுங்கள்; இதோ, நான் உங்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டிருக்கிறேன் என்று சொல்லி,

8. After taking the city, set it on fire. Follow the LORD's command-- see [that you do] as I have ordered you.'

9. So Joshua sent them out, and they went to the ambush site and waited between Bethel and Ai, to the west of Ai. But he spent that night with the troops.

10. அதிகாலமே யோசுவா எழுந்திருந்து, ஜனங்களை இலக்கம்பார்த்து, இஸ்ரவேலின் மூப்பரோடுங்கூட ஜனங்களுக்கு முன்னாலே நடந்து, ஆயியின் மேல் போனான்.

10. Joshua started early the next morning and mobilized them. Then he and the elders of Israel led the troops up to Ai.

11. அவனோடிருந்த யுத்த ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் நடந்து, பட்டணத்துக்கு எதிரே வந்துசேர்ந்து, ஆயிக்கு வடக்கே பாளயமிறங்கினார்கள்; அவர்களுக்கும் ஆயிக்கும் நடுவே ஒரு பள்ளத்தாக்கு இருந்தது.

11. All those who were with him went up and approached the city, arriving opposite Ai, and camped to the north of it, with a valley between them and the city.

12. அவன் ஏறக்குறைய ஐயாயிரம் பேரைப் பிரித்தெடுத்து, அவர்களைப் பெத்தேலுக்கும் ஆயிக்கும் நடுவே பட்டணத்திற்கு மேலண்டையில் பதிவிடையாக வைத்தான்.

12. Now Joshua had taken about 5,000 men and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, to the west of the city.

13. பட்டணத்திற்கு வடக்கே இருந்த சகல சேனையையும் பட்டணத்திற்கு மேற்கே பதிவிருக்கிறவர்களையும் திட்டம் பண்ணினபின்பு, யோசுவா அன்று இராத்திரி பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே போயிருந்தான்.

13. The military force was stationed in this way: the main camp to the north of the city and its rear guard to the west of the city. And that night Joshua went into the valley.

14. When the king of Ai saw [the Israelites], the men of the city hurried and went out early in the morning, so that he and all his people could engage Israel in battle at a suitable place facing the plain [of the Jordan]. But he did not know there was an ambush [waiting] for him behind the city.

15. யோசுவாவும் இஸ்ரவேலர் எல்லாரும் அவர்களுக்கு முன்னாக முறிந்து, வனாந்தரத்துக்குப் போகிற வழியே ஓடிப்போனார்கள்.

15. Joshua and all Israel pretended to be beaten back by them and fled toward the wilderness.

16. அப்பொழுது பட்டணத்துக்குள் இருந்த ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் அவர்களைத் துரத்தும்படி கூப்பிட்டுக்கொண்டு யோசுவாவைப் பின்தொடர்ந்து பட்டணத்தை விட்டு அப்புறப்பட்டார்கள்.

16. Then all the troops of Ai were summoned to pursue them, and they pursued Joshua and were drawn away from the city.

17. ஆயியிலும் பெத்தேலிலும் இஸ்ரவேலரைப் பின்தொடராத மனுஷன் இருந்ததில்லை; பட்டணத்தைத் திறந்துவைத்துவிட்டு, இஸ்ரவேலரைத் துரத்திக்கொண்டுபோனார்கள்.

17. Not a man was left in Ai or Bethel who did not go out after Israel, leaving the city exposed while they pursued Israel.

18. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் யோசுவாவை நோக்கி: உன் கையில் இருக்கிற ஈட்டியை ஆயிக்கு நேராக நீட்டு; அதை உன்கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுப்பேன் என்றார்; அப்படியே யோசுவா தன் கையில் இருந்த ஈட்டியைப் பட்டணத்துக்கு நேராக நீட்டினான்.

18. Then the LORD said to Joshua, 'Hold out the sword in your hand toward Ai, for I will hand the city over to you.' So Joshua held out his sword toward it.

19. அவன் தன் கையை நீட்டினவுடனே, பதிவிருந்தவர்கள் தீவிரமாய்த் தாங்கள் இருந்த இடத்திலிருந்து எழும்பி ஓடி, பட்டணத்துக்கு வந்து, அதைப் பிடித்து, தீவிரத்தோடே பட்டணத்தைத் தீக்கொளுத்தினார்கள்.

19. When he held out his hand, the men in ambush rose quickly from their position. They ran, entered the city, captured it, and immediately set it on fire.

20. ஆயியின் மனுஷர் பின்னிட்டுப் பார்த்தபோது, இதோ, பட்டணத்தின் புகை ஆகாசத்தில் எழும்புகிறதைக் கண்டார்கள்; அப்பொழுது அங்கும் இங்கும் ஓடிப்போகிறதற்கு அவர்களுக்கு இடம் இல்லாமற்போயிற்று; வனாந்தரத்துக்கு ஓடின ஜனங்கள் தங்களைத் தொடர்ந்தவர்கள் முகமாய்த் திரும்பினார்கள்.

20. The men of Ai turned and looked back, and smoke from the city was rising to the sky! They could not escape in any direction, and the troops who had fled to the wilderness now became the pursuers.

21. பதிவிருந்தவர்கள் பட்டணத்தைப் பிடித்ததையும், பட்டணத்தின் புகை எழும்புகிறதையும், யோசுவாவும் இஸ்ரவேலரும் பார்த்தபோது, திரும்பிக்கொண்டு, ஆயியின் மனுஷரை முறிய அடித்தார்கள்.

21. When Joshua and all Israel saw that the [men in] ambush had captured the city and that smoke was rising from it, they turned back and struck down the men of Ai.

22. பட்டணத்திலிருந்தவர்களும் அவர்களுக்கு எதிர்ப்பட்டதினால், சிலர் இப்புறத்திலும் சிலர் அப்புறத்திலும் இருந்த இஸ்ரவேலின் நடுவே அகப்பட்டுக்கொண்டார்கள்; ஆகையால் அவர்களில் ஒருவரும் தப்பி மீந்திராதபடிக்கு அவர்களை வெட்டிப்போட்டு,

22. The men in the ambush came out of the city against them, and the men of Ai were [trapped] between the Israelite forces, some on one side and some on the other. They struck them down until no survivor or fugitive remained,

23. ஆயியின் ராஜாவை உயிரோடே பிடித்து, யோசுவாவினிடத்தில் கொண்டுவந்தார்கள்.

23. but they captured the king of Ai alive and brought him to Joshua.

24. இஸ்ரவேலர் வனாந்தரவெளியிலே தங்களைத் துரத்தின ஆயியின் குடிகளையெல்லாம் வெட்டித் தீர்ந்தபோதும், அவர்கள் அனைவரும் நாசமாகுமட்டும் பட்டயக்கருக்கினால் விழுந்து இறந்தபோதும், இஸ்ரவேலர் எல்லாரும் ஆயிக்குத் திரும்பி, அதைப் பட்டயக்கருக்கினால் சங்கரித்தார்கள்.

24. When Israel had finished killing everyone living in Ai who had pursued them into the open country, and when every last one of them had fallen by the sword, all Israel returned to Ai and struck it down with the sword.

25. அந்நாளிலே ஆணும் பெண்ணுமாக ஆயியின் மனுஷர் எல்லாரும் பன்னீராயிரம்பேர் விழுந்தார்கள்.

25. The total of those who fell that day, both men and women, was 12,000-- all the people of Ai.

26. ஆயியின் குடிகளையெல்லாம் சங்கரித்துத் தீருமட்டும், யோசுவா ஈட்டியை நீட்டிக்கொண்டிருந்த தன் கையை மடக்கவில்லை.

26. Joshua did not draw back his hand that was holding the sword until all the inhabitants of Ai were completely destroyed.

27. கர்த்தர் யோசுவாவுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்ட வார்த்தையின்படி, மிருகஜீவனையும் அந்தப் பட்டணத்தின் கொள்ளையையும் மாத்திரம் இஸ்ரவேலர் எடுத்துக்கொண்டார்கள்.

27. Israel plundered only the cattle and spoil of that city for themselves, according to the LORD's command that He had given Joshua.

28. யோசுவா ஆயியைச் சுட்டெரித்து, அதை இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் இருக்கிறபடி என்றைக்கும் பாழாய்க்கிடக்கும் மண்மேடாக்கி,

28. Joshua burned Ai and left it a permanent ruin, desolate to this day.

29. ஆயியின் ராஜாவை ஒரு மரத்திலே தூக்கிப்போடுவித்து, சாயங்காலமட்டும் அதிலே தொங்கவிட்டான்; சூரியன் அஸ்தமித்தபின்பு யோசுவா அவன் உடலை மரத்தைவிட்டு இறக்கச் சொன்னான்; அதைப் பட்டணவாசலில் போட்டு, இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் இருக்கிற பெரிய கற்குவியலை அதின்மேல் குவித்தார்கள்.

29. He hung [the body of] the king of Ai on a tree until evening, and at sunset Joshua commanded that they take his body down from the tree. They threw it down at the entrance of the city gate and put a large pile of rocks over it, which remains to this day.

30. அப்பொழுது யோசுவா: கர்த்தரின் தாசனாகிய மோசே இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டபடியும், மோசேயின் நியாயப்பிரமாண புஸ்தகத்தில் எழுதியிருக்கிறபடியும், ஏபால் பர்வதத்தில் இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருக்கு இருப்பாயுதம்படாத முழுக்கற்களால் ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக் கட்டினான்.

30. At that time Joshua built an altar on Mount Ebal to the LORD, the God of Israel,

31. அதின்மேல் கர்த்தருக்கு சர்வாங்க தகனபலிகளைச் செலுத்தி, சமாதானபலிகளையும் இட்டார்கள்.

31. just as Moses the LORD's servant had commanded the Israelites. He built it according to what is written in the book of the law of Moses: an altar of uncut stones on which no iron tool has been used. Then they offered burnt offerings to the LORD and sacrificed fellowship offerings on it.

32. இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்கு முன்பாக மோசே எழுதியிருந்த நியாயப்பிரமாணத்தை அவன் அங்கே கற்களில் பேர்த்தெழுதினான்.

32. There on the stones, Joshua copied the law of Moses, which he had written in the presence of the Israelites.

33. இஸ்ரவேல் ஜனங்களை ஆசீர்வதிக்கும்படி கர்த்தரின் தாசனாகிய மோசே முதலில் கட்டளையிட்டிருந்தபடியே, இஸ்ரவேலர் எல்லாரும், அவர்களுடைய மூப்பரும், அதிபதிகளும், நியாயாதிபதிகளும், அந்நியர்களும், இஸ்ரவேலில் பிறந்தவர்களும் கர்த்தருடைய உடன்படிக்கைப் பெட்டியைச் சுமக்கிற லேவியரான ஆசாரியருக்கு முன்பாக, பெட்டிக்கு இருபுறத்திலும், பாதிபேர் கெரிசீம் மலைக்கு எதிர்புறமாகவும், பாதிபேர் ஏபால் மலைக்கு எதிர்புறமாகவும் நின்றார்கள்.

33. All Israel, foreigner and citizen alike, with their elders, officers, and judges, stood on either side of the ark of the LORD's covenant facing the Levitical priests who carried it. As Moses the LORD's servant had commanded earlier, half of them were in front of Mount Gerizim and half in front of Mount Ebal, to bless the people of Israel.

34. அதற்குப்பின்பு அவன் நியாயப்பிரமாண புஸ்தகத்தில் எழுதியிருக்கிறபடி நியாயப்பிரமாணத்தில் சொல்லிய ஆசீர்வாதமும் சாபமுமாகிய சகல வார்த்தைகளையும் வாசித்தான்.

34. Afterwards, Joshua read aloud all the words of the law-- the blessings as well as the curses-- according to all that is written in the book of the law.

35. மோசே கட்டளையிட்ட எல்லாவற்றிலும் யோசுவா இஸ்ரவேலின் முழுச்சபைக்கும், ஸ்திரீகளுக்கும், பிள்ளைகளுக்கும், அவர்களுக்குள் நடமாடி சஞ்சரித்த அந்நியர்களுக்கும் முன்பாக, ஒரு வார்த்தையும் விடாமல் வாசித்தான்.

35. There was not a word of all that Moses had commanded that Joshua did not read before the entire assembly of Israel, including the women, little children, and foreigners who were with them.
