1. சண்டையோடுகூடிய வீடுநிறைந்த கொழுமையான பதார்த்தங்களைப் பார்க்கிலும், அமரிக்கையோடே சாப்பிடும் வெறும் துணிக்கையே நலம்.

5. He who mocks the poor insults his maker; he who rejoices at calamity will not go unpunished.

6. பிள்ளைகளின் பிள்ளைகள் முதியோருக்குக் கிரீடம்; பிள்ளைகளின் மேன்மை அவர்கள் பிதாக்களே.

6. Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, while the glory of children is their ancestors.

7. மேன்மையானவைகளைப் பேசும் உதடு மூடனுக்குத் தகாது; பொய் பேசும் உதடு பிரபுவுக்கு எவ்வளவேனும் தகாது.

8. பரிதானம் வாங்குகிறவர்களின் பார்வைக்கு அது இரத்தினம் போலிருக்கும்; அது நோக்கும் திசையெல்லாம் காரியம் வாய்க்கும்.

9. He who conceals an offense promotes love, but he who harps on it can separate even close friends.

11. An evil person seeks only rebellion, but a cruel messenger will be sent against him.

12. தன் மதிகேட்டில் திரியும் மதியீனனுக்கு எதிர்ப்படுவதைப்பார்க்கிலும், குட்டிகளைப் பறிகொடுத்த கரடிக்கு எதிர்ப்படுவது வாசி.

12. Rather meet a bear robbed of its cubs than encounter a fool in his folly.

13. நன்மைக்குத் தீமைசெய்கிறவன் எவனோ, அவன் வீட்டைவிட்டுத் தீமை நீங்காது.

13. Evil will not depart from the house of him who returns evil for good.

14. சண்டையின் ஆரம்பம் மதகைத் திறந்துவிடுகிறதுபோலிருக்கும்; ஆதலால் விவாதம் எழும்புமுன் அதை விட்டுவிடு.

14. Starting a fight is like letting water through [[a dike]]- better stop the quarrel before it gets worse.

15. துன்மார்க்கனை நீதிமானாக்குகிறவனும், நீதிமானைக் குற்றவாளியாக்குகிறவனுமாகிய இவ்விருவரும் கர்த்தருக்கு அருவருப்பானவர்கள்.

15. He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous- both alike are an abomination to ADONAI.

16. ஞானத்தைக் கொள்ளும்படி மூடன் கையிலே ரொக்கம் என்னத்திற்கு? அதின்மேல் அவனுக்கு மனமில்லையே.

16. Why would a fool wish to pay for wisdom when he has no desire to learn?

17. சிநேகிதன் எல்லாக் காலத்திலும் சிநேகிப்பான்; இடுக்கணில் உதவவே சகோதரன் பிறந்திருக்கிறான்.

17. A friend shows his friendship at all times- it is for adversity that [[such]] a brother is born.

18. புத்தியீனன் தன் சிநேகிதனுக்கு முன்பாகக் கையடித்துக்கொடுத்துப் பிணைப்படுகிறான்.

18. He who gives his hand to guarantee a loan for his neighbor lacks good sense.

19. வாதுப்பிரியன் பாதகப்பிரியன்; தன் வாசலை உயர்த்திக் கட்டுகிறவன் அழிவை நாடுகிறான்.

19. Those who love quarreling love giving offense; those who make their gates tall are courting disaster.

20. மாறுபாடான இருதயமுள்ளவன் நன்மையைக் கண்டடைவதில்லை; புரட்டு நாவுள்ளவன் தீமையில் விழுவான்.

20. A crooked-hearted person will find nothing good, and the perverse of speech will end in calamity.

21. மூடபுத்திரனைப் பெறுகிறவன் தனக்குச் சஞ்சலமுண்டாக அவனைப் பெறுகிறான்; மதியீனனுடைய தகப்பனுக்கு மகிழ்ச்சியில்லை.

21. He who fathers a fool does so to his sorrow, and the father of a boor has no joy.

22. மனமகிழ்ச்சி நல்ல ஒளஷதம்; முறிந்த ஆவியோ எலும்புகளை உலரப்பண்ணும்.

22. A happy heart is good medicine, but low spirits sap one's strength.

23. துன்மார்க்கன், நீதியின் வழியைப்புரட்ட. மடியிலுள்ள பரிதானத்தை வாங்குகிறான்.

23. From under a cloak a bad man takes a bribe to pervert the course of justice.

24. ஞானம் புத்திமானுக்கு முன்பாக இருக்கும்; மூடனுடைய கண்களோ பூமியின் கடையாந்தரங்களில் செல்லும்.

24. The discerning person focuses on wisdom there before him, but a fool's eyes wander to the ends of the earth.

25. மூடபுத்திரன் தன் பிதாவுக்குச் சலிப்பும், தன்னைப் பெற்றவர்களுக்குக் கசப்புமானவன்.

25. A son who is a fool means anger for his father and bitterness for the mother who gave him birth.

26. நீதிமானை தண்டம் பிடிக்கிறதும், நியாயஞ்செய்கிறவனைப் பிரபுக்கள் அடிக்கிறதும் தகுதியல்ல.

26. To punish the innocent is not right, likewise to flog noble people for their uprightness.

27. அறிவாளி தன் வார்த்தைகளை அடக்குகிறான்; விவேகி குளிர்ந்த மனமுள்ளவன்.

27. A knowledgeable person controls his tongue; a discerning person controls his temper.

28. பேசாதிருந்தால் மூடனும் ஞானவான் என்று எண்ணப்படுவான்; தன் உதடுகளை மூடுகிறவன் புத்திமான் என்று எண்ணப்படுவான்.

28. Even a fool, if he stays silent, is thought wise; he who keeps his mouth shut can pass for smart.
