1. மனதின் யோசனைகள் மனுஷனுடையது; நாவின் பிரதியுத்தரம் கர்த்தரால் வரும்.

1. It is the part of man to prepare the soul: and of the Lord to govern the tongue.

2. மனுஷனுடைய வழிகளெல்லாம் அவன் பார்வைக்குச் சுத்தமானவைகள்; கர்த்தரோ ஆவிகளை நிறுத்துப்பார்க்கிறார்.

2. All the ways of a man are open to his eyes: the Lord is the weigher of spirits.

3. உன் செய்கைகளைக் கர்த்தருக்கு ஒப்புவி; அப்பொழுது உன் யோசனைகள் உறுதிப்படும்.

3. Lay open thy works to the Lord: and thy thoughts shall be directed.

4. கர்த்தர் சகலத்தையும் தமக்கென்று படைத்தார்; தீங்குநாளுக்காகத் துன்மார்க்கனையும் உண்டாக்கினார்.

4. The Lord hath made all things for himself: the wicked also for the evil day.

5. மனமேட்டிமையுள்ளவனெவனும் கர்த்தருக்கு அருவருப்பானவன்; கையோடே கைகோத்தாலும் அவன் தண்டனைக்குத் தப்பான்.

5. Every proud man is an abomination to the Lord: though hand should be joined to hand, he is not innocent. The beginning of a good way is to do justice; and this is more acceptable with God, than to offer sacrifices.

6. கிருபையினாலும் சத்தியத்தினாலும் பாவம் நிவிர்த்தியாகும்; கர்த்தருக்குப் பயப்படுகிறதினால் மனுஷர் தீமையை விட்டு விலகுவார்கள்.

6. By mercy and truth iniquity is redeemed: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.

7. ஒருவனுடைய வழிகள் கர்த்தருக்குப் பிரியமாயிருந்தால், அவனுடைய சத்துருக்களும் அவனோடே சமாதானமாகும்படி செய்வார்.

7. When the ways of man shall please the Lord, he will convert even his enemies to peace.

8. அநியாயமாய் வந்த அதிக வருமானத்திலும், நியாயமாய் வந்த கொஞ்ச வருமானமே உத்தமம்.

8. Better is a little with justice, than great revenues with iniquity.

9. மனுஷனுடைய இருதயம் அவனுடைய வழியை யோசிக்கும்; அவனுடைய நடைகளை உறுதிப்படுத்துகிறவரோ கர்த்தர்.

9. The heart of man disposeth his way: but the Lord must direct his steps.

10. ராஜாவின் உதடுகளில் திவ்வியவாக்கு பிறக்கும்; நியாயத்தில் அவன் வாய் தவறாது.

10. Divination is in the lips of the king, his mouth shall not err in judgment.

11. சுமுத்திரையான நிறைகோலும் தராசும் கர்த்தருடையது; பையிலிருக்கும் நிறைகல்லெல்லாம் அவருடைய செயல்.

11. Weight and balance are judgments of the Lord: and his work all the weights of the bag.

12. அநியாயஞ்செய்வது ராஜாக்களுக்கு அருவருப்பு; நீதியினால் சிங்காசனம் உறுதிப்படும்.

12. They that act wickedly are abominable to the king: for the throne is established by justice.

13. நீதியுள்ள உதடுகள் ராஜாக்களுக்குப் பிரியம்; நிதானமாய்ப் பேசுகிறவனில் ராஜாக்கள் பிரியப்படுவார்கள்.

13. Just lips are the delight of kings: he that speaketh right things shall be loved.

14. ராஜாவின் கோபம் மரணதூதருக்குச் சமானம்; ஞானமுள்ளவனோ அதை ஆற்றுவான்.

14. The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: and the wise man will pacify it.

15. ராஜாவின் முகக்களையில் ஜீவன் உண்டு; அவனுடைய தயை பின்மாரிபெய்யும் மேகத்தைப்போல் இருக்கும்.

15. In the cheerfulness of the king's countenance is life: and his clemency is like the latter rain.

16. பொன்னைச் சம்பாதிப்பதிலும் ஞானத்தைச் சம்பாதிப்பது எவ்வளவு உத்தமம்! வெள்ளியை சம்பாதிப்பதிலும் புத்தியைச் சம்பாதிப்பது எவ்வளவு மேன்மை!

16. Get wisdom, because it is better than gold: and purchase prudence, for it is more precious than silver.

17. தீமையை விட்டு விலகுவதே செம்மையானவர்களுக்குச் சமனான பாதை; தன் நடையைக் கவனித்திருக்கிறவன் தன் ஆத்துமாவைக் காக்கிறான்.

17. The path of the just departeth from evils: he that keepeth his soul keepeth his way.

18. அழிவுக்கு முன்னானது அகந்தை; விழுதலுக்கு முன்னானது மனமேட்டிமை.

18. Pride goeth before destruction: and the spirit is lifted up before a fall.

19. அகங்காரிகளோடே கொள்ளைப்பொருளைப் பங்கிடுவதைப்பார்க்கிலும், சிறுமையானவர்களோடே மனத்தாழ்மையாயிருப்பது நலம்.

19. It is better to be humbled with the meek, than to divide spoils with the proud.

20. விவேகத்துடன் காரியத்தை நடப்பிக்கிறவன் நன்மை பெறுவான்; கர்த்தரை நம்புகிறவன் பாக்கியவான்.

20. The learned in word shall find good things: and he that trusteth in the Lord is blessed.

21. இருதயத்தில் ஞானமுள்ளவன் விவேகியென்னப்படுவான்; உதடுகளின் மதுரம் கல்வியைப் பெருகப்பண்ணும்.

21. The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and he that is sweet in words shall attain to greater things.

22. புத்தி தன்னை உடையவர்களுக்கு ஜீவஊற்று; மதியீனரின் போதனை மதியீனமே.

22. Knowledge is a fountain of life to him that possesseth it: the instruction of fools is foolishness.

23. ஞானியின் இருதயம் அவன் வாய்க்கு அறிவையூட்டும்; அவன் உதடுகளுக்கு அது மேன்மேலும் கல்வியைக் கொடுக்கும்.

23. The heart of the wise shall instruct his mouth: and shall add grace to his lips.

24. இனிய சொற்கள் தேன்கூடுபோல் ஆத்துமாவுக்கு மதுரமும், எலும்புகளுக்கு ஒளஷதமுமாகும்.

24. Well ordered words are as a honeycomb: sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

25. மனுஷனுக்குச் செம்மையாய்த் தோன்றுகிற வழியுண்டு; அதின் முடிவோ மரண வழிகள்.

25. There is a way that seemeth to a man right: and the ends thereof lead to death.

26. பிரயாசப்படுகிறவன் தனக்காகவே பிரயாசப்படுகிறான்; அவன் வாய் அதை அவனிடத்தில் வருந்திக் கேட்கும்.

26. The soul of him that laboureth, laboureth for himself, because his mouth hath obliged him to it.

27. பேலியாளின் மகன் கிண்டிவிடுகிறான்; எரிகிற அக்கினிபோன்றது அவன் உதடுகளில் இருக்கிறது.

27. The wicked man diggeth evil, and in his lips is a burning fire.

28. மாறுபாடுள்ளவன் சண்டையைக் கிளப்பிவிடுகிறான்; கோள் சொல்லுகிறவன் பிராண சிநேகிதரையும் பிரித்துவிடுகிறான்.

28. A perverse man stirreth up quarrels: and one full of words separateth princes.

29. கொடுமையானவன் தன் அயலானுக்கு நயங்காட்டி, அவனை நலமல்லாத வழியிலே நடக்கப்பண்ணுகிறான்.

29. An unjust man allureth his friend: and leadeth him into a way that is not good.

30. அவன் மாறுபாடானவைகளை யோசிக்கும்படி தன் கண்களை மூடி, தீமையைச் செய்யும்படி தன் உதடுகளைக் கடிக்கிறான்.

30. He that with fixed eyes deviseth wicked things, biting his lips, bringeth: evil to pass.

31. நீதியின் வழியில் உண்டாகும் நரை மயிரானது மகிமையான கிரீடம்.

31. Old age is a crown of dignity, when it is found in the ways of justice.

32. பலவானைப்பார்க்கிலும் நீடிய சாந்தமுள்ளவன் உத்தமன்; பட்டணத்தைப் பிடிக்கிறவனைப்பார்க்கிலும் தன் மனதை அடக்குகிறவன் உத்தமன்.

32. The patient man is better than the valiant: and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh cities.

33. சீட்டு மடியிலே போடப்படும்; காரியசித்தியோ கர்த்தரால் வரும்.
