1. அதற்கு யோபு பிரதியுத்தரமாக:

1. Then Job answered and said,

2. ஆம், காரியம் இப்படியிருக்கிறது என்று அறிவேன்; தேவனுக்கு முன்பாக மனுஷன் நீதிமானாயிருப்பதெப்படி?

2. I know [it is] so of a truth, but how shall a man be justified with God?

3. அவர் அவனோடே வழக்காடச் சித்தமாயிருந்தால், ஆயிரத்தில் ஒன்றுக்காகிலும் அவருக்கு உத்தரவு சொல்லமாட்டானே.

3. If he desires to contend with him, he will not be able to answer him one [thing] of a thousand.

4. அவர் இருதயத்தில் ஞானமுள்ளவர், பெலத்தில் பராக்கிரமமுள்ளவர்; அவருக்கு விரோதமாகத் தன்னைக் கடினப்படுத்தி வாழ்ந்தவன் யார்?

4. [He is] wise in heart and mighty in strength; who has hardened [himself] against him and remained in peace?

5. அவர் பர்வதங்களைச் சடிதியாய்ப் பேர்க்கிறார்; தம்முடைய கோபத்தில் அவைகளைப் புரட்டிப்போடுகிறார்.

5. Who uproots the mountains in his anger, and they know not who overturned them.

6. பூமியின் தூண்கள் அதிரத்தக்கதாய் அதை அதின் ஸ்தானத்தினின்று அசையப்பண்ணுகிறார்.

6. Who removes the earth out of her place and causes her pillars to tremble.

7. அவர் சூரியனுக்குக் கட்டளையிட அது உதிக்காதிருக்கும்; அவர் நட்சத்திரங்களை மறைத்துப்போடுகிறார்.

7. Who commands the sun, and it rises not; and seals up the stars.

8. அவர் ஒருவரே வானங்களை விரித்து, சமுத்திர அலைகளின்மேல் நடக்கிறவர்.

8. He alone extends the heavens and walks upon the waves of the sea.

9. அவர் துருவச்சக்கர நட்சத்திரங்களையும், மிருகசீரிஷத்தையும், அறுமீனையும், தட்சண மண்டலங்களையும் உண்டாக்கினவர்.

9. He who made Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the secret places of the south.

10. ஆராய்ந்து முடியாத பெரிய காரியங்களையும், எண்ணி முடியாத அதிசயங்களையும் அவர் செய்கிறார்.

10. He who does great things past finding out, and wonders without number.

11. இதோ, அவர் என் அருகில் போகிறார், நான் அவரைக் காணேன்; அவர் கடந்துபோகிறார், நான் அவரை அறியேன்.

11. Behold, he shall pass before me, and I shall not see him; and he shall pass on, and I shall not understand him.

12. இதோ, அவர் பறித்துக்கொண்டுபோகிறார், அவரை மறிப்பவன் யார்? நீர் என்ன செய்கிறீர் என்று அவரைக் கேட்பவன் யார்?

12. Behold, he shall take away, who can cause him to restore? Who shall say unto him, What doest thou?

13. தேவன் தம்முடைய கோபத்தைத் திருப்பமாட்டார்; ஒருவருக்கொருவர் துணைநிற்கிற அகங்காரிகள் அவருக்கு அடங்கவேண்டும்.

13. God will not withdraw his anger, and under him those who help, unto pride are bent over.

14. இப்படியிருக்க, அவருக்கு மறுமொழி கொடுக்கவும், அவரோடே வழக்காடும் வார்த்தைகளைத் தெரிந்து கொள்ளவும் நான் எம்மாத்திரம்?

14. How much less shall I answer him [and] choose out my words to [reason] with him?

15. நான் நீதிமானாயிருந்தாலும் அவரோடே வழக்காடாமல், என் நியாயாதிபதியினிடத்தில் இரக்கத்துக்குக் கெஞ்சுவேன்.

15. Who even though I am righteous, [yet] I would not answer, [but] I would make supplication to my judge.

16. நான் கெஞ்ச. அவர் எனக்கு உத்தரவு அருளினாலும், அவர் என் விண்ணப்பத்துக்குச் செவிகொடுத்தார் என்று நம்பேன்.

16. Who if I were to invoke him, and he answered me; [yet] I would not believe that he had hearkened unto my voice.

17. அவர் புசலினால் என்னை முறிக்கிறார்; முகாந்தரமில்லாமல் அநேகம் காயங்களை எனக்கு உண்டாக்குகிறார்.

17. For he has broken me with a tempest and has multiplied my wounds without cause.

18. நான் மூச்சுவிட எனக்கு இடங்கொடாமல், கசப்பினால் என்னை நிரப்புகிறார்.

18. He will not suffer me to take my breath but has filled me with bitterness.

19. பெலத்தைப் பார்த்தால், அவரே பெலத்தவர்; நியாயத்தைப் பார்த்தால் என் பட்சத்தில் சாட்சி சொல்லுகிறவன் யார்?

19. If [we were to speak] of [his] strength, he is certainly strong; and if of [his] judgment, who shall cause us to meet?

20. நான் என்னை நீதிமானாக்கினாலும் என் வாயே என்னைக் குற்றவாளியாக்கும்; நான் உத்தமன் என்று சொன்னாலும், நான் மாறுபாடானவன் என்று அது சாட்சிகொடுக்கும்.

20. If I justify myself, my own mouth shall condemn me: [if I say], I [am] perfect, he shall prove me perverse.

21. நான் உத்தமனென்றாலும் என் உள்ளத்தை நான் அறியேன்; என் ஜீவனை அரோசிப்பேன்.

21. [If] I [say I am] imperfect, I know not my soul; I would condemn my life.

22. ஒரு காரியம் உண்டு, அதைச் சொல்லுகிறேன்; சன்மார்க்கனையும் துன்மார்க்கனையும் அவர் அழிக்கிறார்.

22. One thing remains, that I say, He consumes the perfect and the wicked.

23. சவுக்கானது அசுப்பிலே வாதித்துக் கொல்லும்போது, அவர் குற்றமில்லாதவர்களின் சோதனையைப் பார்த்து நகைக்கிறார்.

23. If [it is] the scourge, it slays suddenly, and it does not laugh at the trial of the innocent.

24. உலகம் துன்மார்க்கர் கையில் விடப்பட்டிருக்கிறது; அதிலிருக்கிற நியாயாதிபதிகளின் முகத்தை மூடிப்போடுகிறார்; அவர் இதைச் செய்கிறதில்லையென்றால், பின்னை யார் இதைச் செய்கிறார்.

24. The earth is given into the hand of the wicked; he covers the faces of its judges; if [it is] not [he who does this then], who is it and where [is] he?

25. என் நாட்கள் அஞ்சற்காரர் ஓட்டத்திலும் தீவிரமாயிருக்கிறது; அவைகள் நன்மையைக் காணாமல் பறந்துபோம்.

25. Now my days are swifter than a post; they fled away, they never saw good.

26. அவைகள் வேகமாய் ஓடுகிற கப்பல்களைப்போலவும், இரையின்மேல் பாய்கிற கழுகைப்போலவும் கடந்துபோகிறது.

26. They are passed away as the ships of Ebeh as the eagle [that] throws himself on the prey.

27. என் அங்கலாய்ப்பை நான் மறந்து, என் முகத்தின் துக்கத்தை மாற்றி, திடன்கொள்வேன் என்று சொன்னால்,

27. If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness and comfort [myself];

28. என் வருத்தங்களைப்பற்றிப் பயமாயிருக்கிறேன்; என்னைக் குற்றமில்லாதவனாக எண்ணமாட்டீர் என்று அறிவேன்.

28. I am afraid of all my troubles; I know that thou wilt not hold me guiltless.

29. நான் பொல்லாதவனாயிருந்தால், விருதாவாய்ப் போராடவேண்டியது என்ன?

29. [If] I am wicked, why then shall I toil in vain?

30. நான் உறைந்த மழைத் தண்ணீரில் முழுகி, என் கைகளைச் சவுக்காரத்தினால் சுத்தம்பண்ணினாலும்,

30. If I wash myself with snow water and make my hands never so clean;

31. நீர் என்னைச் சேற்றுப்பள்ளத்திலே அமிழ்த்துவீர். அப்பொழுது என் வஸ்திரமே என்னை அருவருக்கும்.

31. yet thou shalt plunge me into the pit, and my own clothes shall abhor me.

32. நான் அவருக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரம் சொல்லுகிறதற்கும், நாங்கள் கூடி நியாயத்திற்கு வருகிறதற்கும், அவர் என்னைப்போல மனுஷன் அல்லவே.

32. For [he is] not a man, as I [am], [that] I should answer him, [and] we should come together unto judgment.

33. எங்கள் இருவர்மேலும் தன் கையை வைக்கத்தக்க மத்தியஸ்தன் எங்களுக்குள் இல்லையே.

33. Neither is there any arbiter between us, [that] might lay his hand upon us both.

34. அவர் தமது மிலாற்றை என்னைவிட்டு அகற்றுவாராக; அவருடைய பயங்கரம் என்னைக் கலங்கப்பண்ணாதிருப்பதாக.

34. Let him take his tormentor away from me, and his terror will not perturb me.

35. அப்பொழுது நான் அவருக்குப் பயப்படாமல் பேசுவேன்; இப்பொழுதோ அப்படிச் செய்ய இடமில்லை.

35. [Then] I would speak and not fear him, because in this state I am not myself.:
