1. யோசபாத்துக்கு மிகுந்த ஐசுவரியமும் கனமும் உண்டாயிருந்தது; அவன் ஆகாபோடே சம்பந்தங்கலந்து,

1. Now Yehoshafat had riches and honor in abundance; and he joined affinity with Ach'av.

2. சில வருஷங்கள் சென்றபின்பு, சமாரியாவிலிருக்கிற ஆகாபிடத்துக்குப் போனான்; அப்பொழுது ஆகாப் அவனுக்கும் அவனோடிருக்கிற ஜனத்திற்கும் அநேகம் ஆடுமாடுகளை அடிப்பித்து, கீலேயாத்திலுள்ள ராமோத்திற்கு வரும்படி அவனை ஏவினான்.

2. After certain years he went down to Ach'av to Shomron. Ach'av killed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people who were with him, and moved him to go up with him to Ramot-Gil`ad.

3. எப்படியெனில், இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவாகிய ஆகாப் யூதாவின் ராஜாவாகிய யோசபாத்தை நோக்கி: கீலேயாத்திலுள்ள ராமோத்துக்கு என்னோடே வருகிறீரா என்று கேட்டதற்கு அவன்: நான் தான் நீர், என்னுடைய ஜனங்கள் உம்முடைய ஜனங்கள், உம்மோடேகூட யுத்தத்திற்கு வருகிறேன் என்றான்.

3. Ach'av king of Yisra'el said to Yehoshafat king of Yehudah, Will you go with me to Ramot-Gil`ad? He answered him, I am as you are, and my people as your people; and we will be with you in the war.

4. பின்னும் யோசபாத் இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவைப் பார்த்து: கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தையை இன்றைக்கு விசாரித்து அறியும் என்றான்.

4. Yehoshafat said to the king of Yisra'el, Please inquire first for the word of the LORD.

5. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா நானூறு தீர்க்கதரிசிகளைக் கூடிவரச்செய்து: நாங்கள் கீலேயாத்திலுள்ள ராமோத்தின்மேல் யுத்தம்பண்ணப் போகலாமா, போகலாகாதா என்று அவர்களைக் கேட்டான். அதற்கு அவர்கள்: போம், தேவன் ராஜாவின் கையில் அதை ஒப்புக்கொடுப்பார் என்றார்கள்.

5. Then the king of Yisra'el gathered the prophets together, four hundred men, and said to them, Shall we go to Ramot-Gil`ad to battle, or shall I forbear? They said, Go up; for God will deliver it into the hand of the king.

6. பின்பு யோசபாத்: நாம் விசாரித்து அறிகிறதற்கு இவர்களையல்லாமல் கர்த்தருடைய தீர்க்கதரிசி வேறே யாராகிலும் இங்கே இல்லையா என்று கேட்டான்.

6. But Yehoshafat said, Isn't there here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we may inquire of him?

7. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா யோசபாத்தை நோக்கி: கர்த்தரிடத்தில் விசாரித்து அறிகிறதற்கு இம்லாவின் குமாரனாகிய மிகாயா என்னும் மற்றொருவன் இருக்கிறான்; ஆனாலும் நான் அவனைப் பகைக்கிறேன்; அவன் என்னைக்குறித்து நன்மையாக அல்ல, தீமையாகவே எப்பொழுதும் தீர்க்கதரிசனம் சொல்லுகிறவன் என்றான். அதற்கு யோசபாத்: ராஜாவே, அப்படிச் சொல்லவேண்டாம் என்றான்.

7. The king of Yisra'el said to Yehoshafat, There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of the LORD: but I hate him; for he never prophesies good concerning me, but always evil: the same is Mikhayahu the son of Imla. Yehoshafat said, Don't let the king say so.

8. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா பிரதானிகளில் ஒருவனைக் கூப்பிட்டு: இம்லாவின் குமாரனாகிய மிகாயாவைச் சீக்கிரமாய் அழைத்துவா என்றான்.

8. Then the king of Yisra'el called an officer, and said, Get quickly Mikhayahu the son of Imla.

9. இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவும் யூதாவின் ராஜாவாகிய யோசபாத்தும், சமாரியாவின் ஒலிமுகவாசலுக்கு முன்னிருக்கும் விசாலமான இடத்திலே ராஜவஸ்திரம் தரித்துக்கொண்டவர்களாய், அவரவர் தம்தம் சிங்காசனத்திலே உட்கார்ந்திருந்தார்கள்; சகல தீர்க்கதரிசிகளும் அவர்களுக்கு முன்பாகத் தீர்க்கதரிசனஞ் சொன்னார்கள்.

9. Now the king of Yisra'el and Yehoshafat the king of Yehudah sat each on his throne, arrayed in their robes, and they were sitting in an open place at the entrance of the gate of Shomron; and all the prophets were prophesying before them.

10. கெனானாவின் குமாரனாகிய சிதேக்கியா தனக்கு இருப்புக்கொம்புகளை உண்டாக்கி, இவைகளால் நீர் சீரியரை முட்டி நிர்மூலமாக்கிப்போடுவீர் என்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார் என்றான்.

10. Tzidkiyahu the son of Kena`anah made him horns of iron, and said, Thus says the LORD, With these shall you push the Aram, until they be consumed.

11. சகல தீர்க்கதரிசிகளும் அதற்கு இசைவாகத் தீர்க்கதரிசனஞ்சொல்லி, கீலேயாத்திலுள்ள ராமோத்திற்குப் போம், உமக்கு வாய்க்கும், கர்த்தர் அதை ராஜாவின் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுப்பார் என்றார்கள்.

11. All the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramot-Gil`ad, and prosper; for the LORD will deliver it into the hand of the king.

12. மிகாயாவை அழைக்கப்போன ஆள் அவனுடனே பேசி: இதோ, தீர்க்கதரிசிகளின் வார்த்தைகள் ஏகவாக்காய் ராஜாவுக்கு நன்மையாயிருக்கிறது; உம்முடைய வார்த்தையும் அவர்களில் ஒருவர் வார்த்தையைப்போல இருக்கும்படிக்கு நன்மையாகச் சொல்லும் என்றான்.

12. The messenger who went to call Mikhayahu spoke to him, saying, Behold, the words of the prophets declare good to the king with one mouth: let your word therefore, Please be like one of theirs, and speak you good.

13. அதற்கு மிகாயா: என் தேவன் சொல்வதையே சொல்வேன் என்று கர்த்தருடைய ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றான்.

13. Mikhayahu said, As the LORD lives, what my God says, that will I speak.

14. அவன் ராஜாவினிடத்தில் வந்தபோது, ராஜா அவனைப் பார்த்து: மிகாயாவே, நாங்கள் கீலேயாத்திலுள்ள ராமோத்தின்மேல் யுத்தம்பண்ணப்போகலாமா, போகலாகாதா என்று கேட்டான். அதற்கு அவன்: போங்கள்; உங்களுக்கு வாய்க்கும்; உங்கள் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுக்கப்படுவார்கள் என்றான்.

14. When he was come to the king, the king said to him, Mikhayahu, shall we go to Ramot-Gil`ad to battle, or shall I forbear? He said, Go up, and prosper; and they shall be delivered into your hand.

15. ராஜா அவனைப் பார்த்து: நீ கர்த்தருடைய நாமத்திலே உண்மையை அல்லாமல் வெறொன்றையும் என்னிடத்தில் சொல்லாதபடிக்கு, நான் எத்தனைதரம் உன்னை ஆணையிடுவிக்கவேண்டும் என்று சொன்னான்.

15. The king said to him, How many times shall I adjure you that you speak to me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD?

16. அப்பொழுது அவன்: இஸ்ரவேலர் எல்லாரும் மேய்ப்பனில்லாத ஆடுகளைப் போல மலைகளில் சிதறப்பட்டதைக் கண்டேன்; அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர்: இவர்களுக்கு எஜமான் இல்லை; அவரவர் தம்தம் வீட்டிற்குச் சமாதானத்தோடே திரும்பக்கடவர்கள் என்றார் என்று சொன்னான்.

16. He said, I saw all Yisra'el scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master; let them return every man to his house in shalom.

17. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா யோசபாத்தை நோக்கி: இவன் என்னைக் குறித்து நன்மையாக அல்ல, தீமையாகவே தீர்க்கதரிசனஞ்சொல்லுகிறவன் என்று நான் உம்மோடே சொல்லவில்லையா என்றான்.

17. The king of Yisra'el said to Yehoshafat, Didn't I tell you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?

18. அப்பொழுது அவன் சொன்னது: கர்த்தருடைய வார்த்தையைக் கேளுங்கள்; கர்த்தர் தம்முடைய சிங்காசனத்தின் மேல் வீற்றிருக்கிறதையும், பரம சேனையெல்லாம் அவர் வலது பக்கத்திலும் அவர் இடது பக்கத்திலும் நிற்கிறதையும் கண்டேன்.

18. Mikhayahu said, Therefore hear you the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing on his right hand and on his left.

19. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர்: இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவாகிய ஆகாப் கீலேயாத்திலுள்ள ராமோத்தில் போய் விழும்படிக்கு, அவனுக்குப் போதனைசெய்கிறவன் யார் என்று கேட்டதற்கு, ஒருவன் இப்படியும் ஒருவன் அப்படியும் சொன்னார்கள்.

19. The LORD said, Who shall entice Ach'av king of Yisra'el, that he may go up and fall at Ramot-Gil`ad? One spoke saying after this manner, and another saying after that manner.

20. அப்பொழுது ஒரு ஆவி புறப்பட்டு வந்து, கர்த்தருக்கு முன்பாக நின்று: நான் அவனுக்குப் போதனைசெய்வேன் என்றது; எதினால் என்று கர்த்தர் அதைக் கேட்டார்.

20. There came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will entice him. The LORD said to him, 'How?'

21. அப்பொழுது அது: நான் போய், அவனுடைய தீர்க்கதரிசிகள் எல்லாரின் வாயிலும் பொய்யின் ஆவியாய் இருப்பேன் என்றது. அதற்கு அவர்: நீ அவனுக்குப் போதனைசெய்து அப்படி நடக்கப் பண்ணுவாய்; போய் அப்படியே செய் என்றார்.

21. He said, 'I will go forth, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' He said, 'You shall entice him, and shall prevail also: go forth, and do so.'

22. ஆனதினால் கர்த்தர் பொய்யின் ஆவியை இந்த உம்முடைய தீர்க்கதரிசிகளின் வாயிலே கட்டளையிட்டார்; கர்த்தர் உம்மைக்குறித்துத் தீமையாகச் சொன்னார் என்றான்.

22. Now therefore, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of these your prophets; and the LORD has spoken evil concerning you.

23. அப்பொழுது கெனானாவின் குமாரனாகிய சிதேக்கியா கிட்டே வந்து: மிகாயாவைக் கன்னத்தில் அடித்து, கர்த்தருடைய ஆவி எந்த வழியாய் என்னைவிட்டு உன்னோடே பேசும்படி வந்தது என்றான்.

23. Then Tzidkiyahu the son of Kena`anah came near, and struck Mikhayahu on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak to you?

24. அதற்கு மிகாயா: நீ ஒளித்துக்கொள்ள உள்ளறையிலே பதுங்கும் அந்நாளிலே அதைக் காண்பாய் என்றான்.

24. Mikhayahu said, Behold, you shall see on that day, when you shall go into an inner chamber to hide yourself.

25. அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா: நீங்கள் மிகாயாவைப் பிடித்து, அவனைப் பட்டணத்துத் தலைவனாகிய ஆமோனிடத்துக்கும், ராஜகுமாரனாகிய யோவாசிடத்துக்கும் திரும்பக் கொண்டுபோய்,

25. The king of Yisra'el said, Take Mikhayahu, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to Yo'ash the king's son;

26. அவனைச் சிறைச்சாலையிலே வைத்து, நான் சமாதானத்தோடே திரும்பிவருமளவும், அவனுக்கு இடுக்கத்தின் அப்பத்தையும் இடுக்கத்தின் தண்ணீரையும் சாப்பிடக் கொடுங்கள் என்று ராஜா சொன்னார் என்று சொல்லுங்கள் என்றான்.

26. and say, Thus says the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I return in shalom.

27. அப்பொழுது மிகாயா: நீர் சமாதானத்தோடே திரும்பிவந்தால், கர்த்தர் என்னைக்கொண்டு பேசினதில்லை என்று சொல்லி; ஜனங்களே, நீங்கள் எல்லாரும் கேளுங்கள் என்றான்.

27. Mikhayahu said, If you return at all in shalom, the LORD has not spoken by me. He said, Hear, you peoples, all of you.

28. பின்பு இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவும், யூதாவின் ராஜாவாகிய யோசபாத்தும் கீலேயாத்திலுள்ள ராமோத்துக்குப் போனார்கள்.

28. So the king of Yisra'el and Yehoshafat the king of Yehudah went up to Ramot-Gil`ad.

29. இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா யோசபாத்தைப் பார்த்து: நான் வேஷம்மாறி யுத்தத்தில் பிரவேசிப்பேன்; நீரோ ராஜவஸ்திரம் தரித்திரும் என்று சொல்லி, இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா வேஷம்மாறி யுத்தத்திலே பிரவேசித்தான்.

29. The king of Yisra'el said to Yehoshafat, I will disguise myself, and go into the battle; but put you on your robes. So the king of Yisra'el disguised himself; and they went into the battle.

30. சீரியாவின் ராஜா தனக்கு இருக்கிற இரதங்களின் தலைவரை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் சிறியவரோடும் பெரியவரோடும் யுத்தம்பண்ணாமல், இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா ஒருவனோடேமாத்திரம் யுத்தம்பண்ணுங்கள் என்று கட்டளையிட்டிருந்தான்.

30. Now the king of Aram had commanded the captains of his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Yisra'el.

31. ஆதலால் இரதங்களின் தலைவர் யோசபாத்தைக் காண்கையில், இவன் தான் இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா என்று சொல்லி யுத்தம்பண்ண அவனைச் சூழ்ந்து கொண்டார்கள்; அப்பொழுது யோசபாத் கூக்குரல் இட்டான்; கர்த்தர் அவனுக்கு அநுசாரியாயிருந்தார்; அவர்கள் அவனை விட்டு விலகும்படி தேவன் செய்தார்.

31. It happened, when the captains of the chariots saw Yehoshafat, that they said, It is the king of Yisra'el. Therefore they turned about to fight against him: but Yehoshafat cried out, and the LORD helped him; and God moved them to depart from him.

32. இவன் இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா அல்ல என்று இரதங்களின் தலைவர் கண்டபோது அவனைவிட்டுத் திரும்பினார்கள்.

32. It happened, when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Yisra'el, that they turned back from pursuing him.

33. ஒருவன் நினையாமல் வில்லை நாணேற்றி எய்தான், அது இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜாவினுடைய கவசத்தின் சந்துக்கிடையிலேபட்டது; அப்பொழுது அவன் தன் சாரதியைப் பார்த்து: நீ திருப்பி என்னை இராணுவத்துக்கப்பால் கொண்டுபோ, எனக்குக் காயம்பட்டது என்றான்.

33. A certain man drew his bow at a venture, and struck the king of Yisra'el between the joints of the armor. Therefore he said to the driver of the chariot, Turn your hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am sore wounded.

34. அன்றையதினம் யுத்தம் அதிகரித்தது; இஸ்ரவேலின் ராஜா சீரியருக்கு எதிராக இரதத்தில் சாயங்காலமட்டும் நின்றிருந்து, சூரியன் அஸ்தமிக்கும்போது இறந்துபோனான்.

34. The battle increased that day: however the king of Yisra'el stayed himself up in his chariot against the Aram until the even; and about the time of the going down of the sun he died.
