1. சவுலின் குடும்பத்துக்கும் தாவீதின் குடும்பத்துக்கும் நெடுநாள் யுத்தம் நடந்தது; தாவீது வரவர பலத்தான்; சவுலின் குடும்பத்தாரோ வரவர பலவீனப்பட்டுப்போனார்கள்.

1. Now there was long war between the house of Saul and the house of David: but David grew stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul became weaker and weaker.

2. எப்ரோனிலே தாவீதுக்குப் பிறந்த குமாரர்: யெஸ்ரயேல் ஊராளான அகினோவாமிடத்திலே பிறந்த அம்னோன் அவனுக்கு முதல் பிறந்தவன்.

2. And to David were sons born in Hebron: and his firstborn was Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess;

3. நாபாலின் மனைவியாயிருந்த கர்மேல் ஊராளான அபிகாயிலிடத்திலே பிறந்த கீலேயாப் அவனுடைய இரண்டாம் குமாரன்; மூன்றாம் குமாரன் கேசூரின் ராஜாவான தல்மாய் குமாரத்தியாகிய மாக்காள் பெற்ற அப்சலோம் என்பவன்.

3. And his second, Chileab, of Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur;

4. நாலாம் குமாரன் ஆகீத் பெற்ற அதொனியா என்பவன்; ஐந்தாம் குமாரன் அபித்தால் பெற்ற செப்பத்தியா என்பவன்.

4. And the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith; and the fifth, Shephatiah the son of Abital;

5. ஆறாம் குமாரன் தாவீதின் மனைவியாகிய எக்லாளிடத்தில் பிறந்த இத்ரேயாம் என்பவன்; இவர்கள் எப்ரோனிலே தாவீதுக்குப் பிறந்தவர்கள்.

5. And the sixth, Ithream, by Eglah David's wife. These were born to David in Hebron.

6. சவுலின் குடும்பத்துக்கும் தாவீதின் குடும்பத்துக்கும் யுத்தம் நடந்து வருகிறபோது, அப்னேர் சவுலின் குடும்பத்திலே பலத்தவனானான்.

6. And it came to pass, while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner made himself strong for the house of Saul.

7. சவுலுக்கு ஆயாவின் குமாரத்தியாகிய ரிஸ்பாள் என்னும் பேருள்ள ஒரு மறுமனையாட்டி இருந்தாள்; இஸ்போசேத் அப்னேரை நோக்கி: நீ என் தகப்பனாருடைய மறுமனையாட்டியினிடத்தில் பிரவேசித்தது என்ன என்றான்.

7. And Saul had a concubine, whose name [was] Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah: and [Ishbosheth] said to Abner, Why hast thou gone in to my father's concubine?

8. அப்னேர் இஸ்போசேத்தின் வார்த்தைகளுக்காக மிகவும் கோபங்கொண்டு: உம்மைத் தாவீதின் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடாமல், இந்நாள்மட்டும் உம்முடைய தகப்பனாகிய சவுலின் குடும்பத்துக்கும், அவருடைய சகோதரருக்கும், சிநேகிதருக்கும், தயவு செய்கிறவனாகிய என்னை நீர் இன்று ஒரு ஸ்திரீயினிமித்தம் குற்றம் பிடிக்கிறதற்கு, நான் யூதாவுக்கு உட்கையான ஒரு நாய்த்தலையா?

8. Then was Abner very angry for the words of Ishbosheth, and said, [Am] I a dog's head, who against Judah do show kindness this day to the house of Saul thy father, to his brethren, and to his friends, and have not delivered thee into the hand of David, that thou chargest me to day with a fault concerning this woman?

9. நான் ராஜ்யபாரத்தைச் சவுலின் குடும்பத்தை விட்டுத் தாண்டப்பண்ணி, தாவீதின் சிங்காசனத்தைத் தாண் துவக்கிப் பெயெர்செபாமட்டுமுள்ள இஸ்ரவேலின்மேலும் யூதாவின்மேலும் நிலைநிறுத்தும்படிக்கு,

9. So do God to Abner, and more also, except, as the LORD hath sworn to David, even so I do to him;

10. கர்த்தர் தாவீதுக்கு ஆணையிட்டபடியே, நான் அவனுக்குச் செய்யாமற்போனால், தேவன் அப்னேருக்கு அதற்குச் சரியாகவும் அதற்கு அதிகமாகவும் செய்யக்கடவர் என்றான்.

10. To pass on the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan even to Beersheba.

11. அப்பொழுது அவன் அப்னேருக்குப் பயப்பட்டதினால், அப்புறம் ஒரு மறுமொழியும் அவனுக்குச் சொல்லாதிருந்தான்.

11. And he could not answer Abner a word again, because he feared him.

12. அப்னேர் தன் நாமத்தினாலே தாவீதினிடத்திற்கு ஸ்தானாபதிகளை அனுப்பி: தேசம் யாருடையது? என்னோடு உடன்படிக்கைபண்ணும்; இதோ, இஸ்ரவேலையெல்லாம் உம்மிடத்தில் திருப்ப, என் கை உம்மோடிருக்கும் என்று சொல்லச் சொன்னான்.

12. And Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying, Whose [is] the land? saying [also], Make thy league with me, and, behold, my hand [shall be] with thee, to bring about all Israel to thee.

13. அதற்குத் தாவீது: நல்லது, உன்னோடே நான் உடன்படிக்கைபண்ணுவேன்; ஆனாலும் ஒரே காரியம் உன்னிடத்தில் கேட்டுக்கொள்ளுகிறேன்; அது என்னவெனில், நீ என் முகத்தைப் பார்க்க வரும்போது, சவுலின் குமாரத்தியாகிய மீகாளை நீ அழைத்து வரவேண்டும்; அதற்குமுன் நீ என் முகத்தைப் பார்ப்பதில்லை என்று சொல்லச்சொல்லி,

13. And he said, Well; I will make a league with thee: but one thing I require of thee, that is, Thou shalt not see my face, except thou shalt first bring Michal Saul's daughter, when thou comest to see my face.

14. அவன் சவுலின் குமாரனாகிய இஸ்போசேத்தினிடத்திற்கும் ஸ்தானாபதிகளை அனுப்பி: நான் பெலிஸ்தருடைய நூறு நுனித்தோல்களைப் பரிசமாகக் கொடுத்து, விவாகம்பண்ணின என் மனைவியாகிய மீகாளை அனுப்பிவிடும் என்று சொல்லச் சொன்னான்.

14. And David sent messengers to Ishbosheth Saul's son, saying, Deliver to [me] my wife Michal, whom I betrothed to me for an hundred foreskins of the Philistines.

15. அப்பொழுது, இஸ்போசேத் அவளை லாயிசின் குமாரனாகிய பல்த்தியேல் என்னும் புருஷனிடத்திலிருந்து அழைத்து வர ஆட்களை அனுப்பினான்.

15. And Ishbosheth sent, and took her from [her] husband, [even] from Phaltiel the son of Laish.

16. அவள் புருஷன் பகூரீம் மட்டும் அவள் பிறகாலே அழுதுகொண்டு வந்தான். அப்னேர் அவனை நோக்கி: நீ திரும்பிப்போ என்றான்; அவன் திரும்பிப் போய்விட்டான்.

16. And her husband went with her weeping behind her to Bahurim. Then said Abner to him, Go, return. And he returned.

17. அப்னேர் இஸ்ரவேலின் மூப்பரோடே பேசி: தாவீதை உங்கள்மேல் ராஜாவாக வைக்கும்படிக்கு நீங்கள் அநேகநாளாய்த் தேடினீர்களே.

17. And Abner had communication with the elders of Israel, saying, Ye sought for David in times past [to be] king over you:

18. இப்போதும் அப்படிச் செய்யுங்கள்; என் தாசனாகிய தாவீதின் கையினால், என் ஜனமாகிய இஸ்ரவேலைப் பெலிஸ்தரின் கைக்கும், அவர்களுடைய எல்லாச் சத்துருக்களின் கைக்கும் நீங்கலாக்கி இரட்சிப்பேன் என்று கர்த்தர் தாவீதைக்குறித்துச் சொல்லியிருக்கிறாரே என்றான்.

18. Now then do [it]: for the LORD hath spoken of David, saying, By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel from the hand of the Philistines, and from the hand of all their enemies.

19. இந்தப்பிரகாரமாக அப்னேர் பென்யமீன் மனுஷர் காதுகள் கேட்கப் பேசினான்; பின்பு அப்னேர் இஸ்ரவேலர் பார்வைக்கும், பென்யமீனுடைய எல்லாக் குடும்பத்தாரின் பார்வைக்கும், சம்மதியானதையெல்லாம் எப்ரோனிலே தாவீதின் காதுகள் கேட்கப் பேசுகிறதற்குப் போனான்.

19. And Abner also spoke in the ears of Benjamin: and Abner went also to speak in the ears of David in Hebron all that seemed good to Israel, and that seemed good to the whole house of Benjamin.

20. அப்னேரும், அவனோடேகூட இருபதுபேரும் எப்ரோனிலிருக்கிற தாவீதினிடத்தில் வந்தபோது, தாவீது அப்னேருக்கும், அவனோடே வந்த மனுஷருக்கும் விருந்துசெய்தான்.

20. So Abner came to David in Hebron, and twenty men with him. And David made Abner and the men that [were] with him a feast.

21. பின்பு அப்னேர் தாவீதை நோக்கி: நான் எழுந்துபோய், இஸ்ரவேலரை எல்லாம் உம்மோடே உடன்படிக்கைபண்ணும்படிக்கு, ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனிடத்தில் சேர்த்துக்கொண்டுவருகிறேன்; அதினாலே உம்முடைய ஆத்துமா அரசாள விரும்புகிற இடமெல்லாம் அரசாளுவீர் என்றான்; அப்படியே தாவீது அப்னேரை அனுப்பிவிட்டான்; அவன் சமாதானத்தோடேபோனான்.

21. And Abner said to David, I will arise and go, and will gather all Israel to my lord the king, that they may make a league with thee, and that thou mayest reign over all that thy heart desireth. And David sent Abner away; and he went in peace.

22. தாவீதின் சேவகரும் யோவாபும் அநேகம் பொருட்களைக் கொள்ளையிட்டு, தண்டிலிருந்து கொண்டு வந்தார்கள்; அப்பொழுது அப்னேர் எப்ரோனில் தாவீதினிடத்தில் இல்லை; அவனை அனுப்பிவிட்டான்; அவன் சமாதானத்தோடே போய்விட்டான்.

22. And, behold, the servants of David and Joab came from [pursuing] a troop, and brought in a great spoil with them: but Abner [was] not with David in Hebron; for he had sent him away, and he had gone in peace.

23. யோவாபும் அவனோடிருந்த எல்லாச் சேனையும் வந்தபோது, நேரின் குமாரனாகிய அப்னேர் ராஜாவினிடத்தில் வந்தான் என்றும், அவர் அவனைச் சமாதானமாய்ப்போக அனுப்பிவிட்டார் என்றும், யோவாபுக்கு அறிவித்தார்கள்.

23. When Joab and all the host that [was] with him had come, they told Joab, saying, Abner the son of Ner came to the king, and he hath sent him away, and he hath gone in peace.

24. அப்பொழுது யோவாப் ராஜாவண்டையில் பிரவேசித்து: என்ன செய்தீர்? இதோ, அப்னேர் உம்மிடத்தில் வந்தானே, நீர் அவனைப் போகவிட்டது என்ன?

24. Then Joab came to the king, and said, What hast thou done? behold, Abner came to thee; why [is] it [that] thou hast sent him away, and he is quite gone?

25. நேரின் குமாரனாகிய அப்னேரை அறிவீரே; அவன் உம்மை மோசம் போக்கவும், உம்முடைய போக்குவரத்தை அறியவும், நீர் செய்கிறதையெல்லாம் ஆராயவும் வந்தான் என்று சொன்னான்.

25. Thou knowest Abner the son of Ner, that he came to deceive thee, and to know thy going out and thy coming in, and to know all that thou doest.

26. யோவாப் தாவீதை விட்டுப் புறப்பட்டவுடனே, அவன் அப்னேரைத் தாவீதுக்குத் தெரியாமல் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு வரும்படி ஆட்களை அனுப்பினான்; அவர்கள் சீரா என்னும் துரவுமட்டும் போய் அவனை அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவந்தார்கள்.

26. And when Joab had come out from David, he sent messengers after Abner, who brought him again from the well of Sirah: but David knew [it] not.

27. அப்னேர் எப்ரோனுக்குத் திரும்பி வருகிறபோது, யோவாப் அவனோடே இரகசியமாகப் பேசப்போகிறவன்போல, அவனை ஒலிமுகவாசலின் நடுவே ஒரு பக்கமாய் அழைத்துப்போய், தன் தம்பி ஆசகேலுடைய இரத்தப்பழியை வாங்க, அங்கே அவனை வயிற்றிலே குத்திக் கொன்றுபோட்டான்.

27. And when Abner had returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the gate to speak with him quietly, and smote him there under the fifth [rib], that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.

28. தாவீது அதைக் கேட்டபோது: நேரின் குமாரனாகிய அப்னேரின் இரத்தத்திற்காக, என்மேலும் என் ராஜ்யத்தின் மேலும் கர்த்தருக்கு முன்பாக என்றைக்கும் பழியில்லை.

28. And afterward when David heard [it], he said, I and my kingdom [are] guiltless before the LORD for ever from the blood of Abner the son of Ner:

29. அது யோவாபுடைய தலையின் மேலும், அவன் தகப்பன் குடும்பத்தின் மேலும் சுமந்திருப்பதாக; யோவாபின் வீட்டாரிலே பிரமியக்காரனும், குஷ்டரோகியும், கோல் ஊன்றி நடக்கிறவனும், பட்டயத்தால் விழுகிறவனும், அப்பம் குறைச்சலுள்ளவனும், ஒருக்காலும் ஒழிந்துபோவதில்லை என்றான்.

29. Let it rest on the head of Joab, and on all his father's house; and let there never cease from the house of Joab one that hath an issue, or that is a leper, or that leaneth on a staff, or that falleth on the sword, or that lacketh bread.

30. அப்னேர் கிபியோனில் நடந்த யுத்தத்திலே தங்கள் தம்பியாகிய ஆசகேலைக் கொன்றதினிமித்தம் யோவாபும் அவன் சகோதரனாகிய அபிசாயும் அவனைச் சங்காரம்பண்ணினார்கள்.

30. So Joab and Abishai his brother slew Abner, because he had slain their brother Asahel at Gibeon in the battle.

31. தாவீது யோவாபையும், அவனோடிருந்த சகல ஜனங்களையும் பார்த்து: நீங்கள் உங்கள் வஸ்திரங்களைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்டு, இரட்டுடுத்தி, அப்னேருக்கு முன்னாக நடந்து துக்கங்கொண்டாடுங்கள் என்று சொல்லி, தாவீது ராஜா தானும் பாடைக்குப் பின்சென்றான்.

31. And David said to Joab, and to all the people that [were] with him, Rend your clothes, and gird yourselves with sackcloth, and mourn before Abner. And king David [himself] followed the bier.

32. அவர்கள் அப்னேரை எப்ரோனிலே அடக்கம்பண்ணுகையில், ராஜா அப்னேரின் கல்லறையண்டையிலே சத்தமிட்டு அழுதான்; சகல ஜனங்களும் அழுதார்கள்.

32. And they buried Abner in Hebron: and the king lifted up his voice, and wept at the grave of Abner; and all the people wept.

33. ராஜா அப்னேருக்காகப் புலம்பி: மதிகெட்டவன் சாகிறதுபோல, அப்னேர் செத்துப்போனானோ?

33. And the king lamented over Abner, and said, Died Abner as a fool dieth?

34. உன் கைகள் கட்டப்படவும் இல்லை; உன் கால்களில் விலங்கு போடப்படவும் இல்லை; துஷ்டர் கையில் மடிகிறதுபோல மடிந்தாயே என்றான்; அப்பொழுது ஜனங்களெல்லாரும் பின்னும் அதிகமாய் அவனுக்காக அழுதார்கள்.

34. Thy hands [were] not bound, nor thy feet put into fetters: as a man falleth before wicked men, [so] fellest thou. And all the people wept again over him.

35. பொழுது இன்னும் இருக்கையில், ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் வந்து: அப்பம் புசியும் என்று தாவீதுக்குச் சொன்னபோது, தாவீது: சூரியன் அஸ்தமிக்கிறதற்கு முன்னே நான் அப்பத்தையாகிலும் வேறெதையாகிலும் ருசி பார்த்தால், தேவன் எனக்கு அதற்குச் சரியாகவும் அதற்கு அதிகமாகவும் செய்யக்கடவர் என்று ஆணையிட்டுச் சொன்னான்.

35. And when all the people came to cause David to eat food while it was yet day, David swore, saying, So do God to me, and more also, if I taste bread, or any thing else, till the sun is down.

36. ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் அதைக் கவனித்தார்கள், அது அவர்கள் பார்வைக்கு நன்றாயிருந்தது; அப்படியே ராஜா செய்ததெல்லாம் சகல ஜனங்களுக்கும் நலமாய்த் தோன்றினது.

36. And all the people took notice [of it], and it pleased them: as whatever the king did pleased all the people.

37. நேரின் குமாரனாகிய அப்னேரைக் கொன்றுபோட்டது ராஜாவினால் உண்டானதல்லவென்று அந்நாளிலே சகல ஜனங்களும், இஸ்ரவேலர் அனைவரும் அறிந்துகொண்டார்கள்.

37. For all the people and all Israel understood that day that it was not of the king to slay Abner the son of Ner.

38. ராஜா தன் ஊழியக்காரரை நோக்கி: இன்றையதினம் இஸ்ரவேலில் பிரபுவும் பெரிய மனுஷனுமாகிய ஒருவன் விழுந்தான் என்று அறியீர்களா?

38. And the king said to his servants, Know ye not that there hath a prince and a great man fallen this day in Israel?

39. நான் ராஜாவாக அபிஷேகம்பண்ணப்பட்டவனாயிருந்தபோதிலும், நான் இன்னும் பலவீனன்; செருயாவின் குமாரராகிய இந்த மனுஷர் என் பலத்துக்கு மிஞ்சினவர்களாயிருக்கிறார்கள், அந்தப் பொல்லாப்பைச் செய்தவனுக்குக் கர்த்தர் அவன் பொல்லாப்புக்குத்தக்கதாய்ச் சரிக்கட்டுவாராக என்றான்.

39. And I [am] this day weak, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah [are] too hard for me: the LORD shall reward the doer of evil according to his wickedness.
