1. ஆபிரகாம் அவ்விடம் விட்டு, தென்தேசத்திற்குப் பிரயாணம்பண்ணி, காதேசுக்கும் சூருக்கும் நடுவாகக் குடியேறி, கேராரிலே தங்கினான்.

1. Abraham traveled from there south to the Negev and settled down between Kadesh and Shur. While he was camping in Gerar,

2. அங்கே ஆபிரகாம் தன் மனைவியாகிய சாராளைத் தன் சகோதரி என்று சொன்னதினாலே, கேராரின் ராஜாவாகிய அபிமெலேக்கு ஆள் அனுப்பிச் சாராளை அழைப்பித்தான்.

2. Abraham said of his wife Sarah, 'She's my sister.' So Abimelech, king of Gerar, sent for Sarah and took her.

3. தேவன் இரவிலே அபிமெலேக்குக்குச் சொப்பனத்திலே தோன்றி: நீ அழைப்பித்த ஸ்திரீயின்நிமித்தம் நீ செத்தாய்; அவள் ஒருவனுடைய மனைவியாயிருக்கிறாளே என்றார்.

3. But God came to Abimelech in a dream that night and told him, 'You're as good as dead--that woman you took, she's a married woman.'

4. அபிமெலேக்கு அவளைச் சேராதிருந்தான். ஆகையால் அவன்: ஆண்டவரே, நீதியுள்ள ஜனங்களை அழிப்பீரோ?

4. Now Abimelech had not yet slept with her, hadn't so much as touched her. He said, 'Master, would you kill an innocent man?

5. இவள் தன் சகோதரி என்று அவன் என்னோடே சொல்லவில்லையா? அவன் தன் சகோதரன் என்று இவளும் சொன்னாளே; உத்தம இருதயத்தோடும் சுத்தமான கைகளோடும் இதைச் செய்தேன் என்று சொன்னான்.

5. Didn't he tell me, 'She's my sister'? And didn't she herself say, 'He's my brother'? I had no idea I was doing anything wrong when I did this.'

6. அப்பொழுது தேவன்: உத்தம இருதயத்தோடே நீ இதைச் செய்தாய் என்று நான் அறிந்திருக்கிறேன்; நீ எனக்கு விரோதமாகப் பாவம் செய்யாதபடிக்கு உன்னைத் தடுத்தேன்; ஆகையால், நீ அவளைத் தொட நான் உனக்கு இடங்கொடுக்கவில்லை.

6. God said to him in the dream, 'Yes, I know your intentions were pure, that's why I kept you from sinning against me; I was the one who kept you from going to bed with her.

7. அந்த மனுஷனுடைய மனைவியை அவனிடத்திற்கு அனுப்பிவிடு; அவன் ஒரு தீர்க்கதரிசி; நீ பிழைக்கும்படிக்கு அவன் உனக்காக வேண்டுதல் செய்வான்; நீ அவளை அனுப்பிவிடாதிருந்தால், நீயும் உன்னைச் சேர்ந்த யாவரும் சாகவே சாவீர்கள் என்று அறிவாயாக என்று சொப்பனத்திலே அவனுக்குச் சொன்னார்.

7. So now give the man's wife back to him. He's a prophet and will pray for you--pray for your life. If you don't give her back, know that it's certain death both for you and everyone in your family.'

8. அபிமெலேக்கு அதிகாலையில் எழுந்து, தன் ஊழியக்காரரையெல்லாம் அழைப்பித்து, இந்தச் சங்கதிகளையெல்லாம் அவர்கள் கேட்கும்படி சொன்னான்; அந்த மனுஷர் மிகவும் பயந்தார்கள்.

8. Abimelech was up first thing in the morning. He called all his house servants together and told them the whole story. They were shocked.

9. அப்பொழுது அபிமெலேக்கு ஆபிரகாமை அழைப்பித்து: நீ எங்களுக்கு என்ன காரியஞ்செய்தாய், நீ என்மேலும், என் ராஜ்யத்தின்மேலும் கொடிய பாவம் சுமரப்பண்ணுகிறதற்கு உனக்கு நான் என்ன குற்றம் செய்தேன்? செய்யத்தகாத காரியங்களை என்னிடத்தில் செய்தாயே என்றான்.

9. Then Abimelech called in Abraham and said, 'What have you done to us? What have I ever done to you that you would bring on me and my kingdom this huge offense? What you've done to me ought never to have been done.'

10. பின்னும் அபிமெலேக்கு ஆபிரகாமை நோக்கி: என்னத்தைக் கண்டு நீ இந்தக் காரியத்தைச் செய்தாய் என்றான்.

10. Abimelech went on to Abraham, 'Whatever were you thinking of when you did this thing?'

11. அதற்கு ஆபிரகாம்: இவ்விடத்தில் தெய்வபயம் இல்லையென்றும், என் மனைவியினிமித்தம் என்னைக் கொன்றுபோடுவார்கள் என்றும் நான் நினைத்தேன்.

11. Abraham said, 'I just assumed that there was no fear of God in this place and that they'd kill me to get my wife.

12. அவள் என் சகோதரி என்பதும் மெய்தான்; அவள் என் தகப்பனுக்குக் குமாரத்தி, என் தாய்க்குக் குமாரத்தியல்ல; அவள் எனக்கு மனைவியானாள்.

12. Besides, the truth is that she is my half sister; she's my father's daughter but not my mother's.

13. என் தகப்பன் வீட்டைவிட்டு தேவன் என்னைத் தேசாந்தரியாய்த்திரியும்படி செய்தபோது, நான் அவளை நோக்கி: நாம் போகும் இடமெங்கும், நீ என்னைச் சகோதரன் என்று சொல்வது நீ எனக்குச் செய்யவேண்டிய தயை என்று அவளிடத்தில் சொல்லியிருந்தேன் என்றான்.

13. When God sent me out as a wanderer from my father's home, I told her, 'Do me a favor; wherever we go, tell people that I'm your brother.''

14. அப்பொழுது அபிமெலேக்கு ஆடுமாடுகளையும், வேலைக்காரரையும், வேலைக்காரிகளையும் ஆபிரகாமுக்குக் கொடுத்து, அவன் மனைவியாகிய சாராளையும் அவனிடத்தில் திரும்ப ஒப்புவித்தான்.

14. Then Abimelech gave Sarah back to Abraham, and along with her sent sheep and cattle and servants, both male and female.

15. பின்னும் அபிமெலேக்கு: இதோ, என் தேசம் உனக்கு முன்பாக இருக்கிறது; உன் பார்வைக்குச் சம்மதியான இடத்திலே குடியிரு என்று சொன்னான்.

15. He said, 'My land is open to you; live wherever you wish.'

16. பின்பு சாராளை நோக்கி: உன் சகோதரனுக்கு ஆயிரம் வெள்ளிக்காசு கொடுத்தேன்; இதோ, உன்னோடிருக்கிற எல்லார் முன்பாகவும், மற்ற யாவர் முன்பாகவும், இது உன் முகத்து முக்காட்டுக்காவதாக என்றான்; இப்படி அவள் கடிந்துகொள்ளப்பட்டாள்.

16. And to Sarah he said, 'I've given your brother a thousand pieces of silver--that clears you of even a shadow of suspicion before the eyes of the world. You're vindicated.'

17. ஆபிரகாமுடைய மனைவியாகிய சாராளின் நிமித்தம் கர்த்தர் அபிமெலேக்குடைய வீட்டாரின் கர்ப்பங்களையெல்லாம் அடைத்திருந்தபடியால்,

17. Then Abraham prayed to God and God healed Abimelech, his wife and his maidservants, and they started having babies again.

18. ஆபிரகாம் தேவனை நோக்கி வேண்டிக்கொண்டான்; அப்பொழுது தேவன் அபிமெலேக்கையும், அவன் மனைவியையும், அவன் வேலைக்காரிகளையும் குணமாக்கி, பிள்ளைபெறும்படி அநுக்கிரகம் பண்ணினார்.

18. For GOD had shut down every womb in Abimelech's household on account of Sarah, Abraham's wife.
