1. பூமியெங்கும் ஒரே பாஷையும், ஒரே விதமான பேச்சும் இருந்தது.

1. And the whole earth is of one pronunciation, and of the same words,

2. ஜனங்கள் கிழக்கேயிருந்து பிரயாணம்பண்ணுகையில், சிநெயார் தேசத்திலே சமபூமியைக்கண்டு, அங்கே குடியிருந்தார்கள்.

2. and it cometh to pass, in their journeying from the east, that they find a valley in the land of Shinar, and dwell there;

3. அப்பொழுது அவர்கள்: நாம் செங்கல் அறுத்து, அதை நன்றாய்ச் சுடுவோம் வாருங்கள் என்று ஒருவரோடொருவர் பேசிக்கொண்டார்கள்; கல்லுக்குப் பதிலாக செங்கலும், சாந்துக்குப் பதிலாக நிலக்கீலும் அவர்களுக்கு இருந்தது.

3. and they say each one to his neighbour, 'Give help, let us make bricks, and burn [them] thoroughly:' and the brick is to them for stone, and the bitumen hath been to them for mortar.

4. பின்னும் அவர்கள்: நாம் பூமியின் மீதெங்கும் சிதறிப்போகாதபடிக்கு, நமக்கு ஒரு நகரத்தையும், வானத்தை அளாவும் சிகரமுள்ள ஒரு கோபுரத்தையும் கட்டி, நமக்குப் பேர் உண்டாகப் பண்ணுவோம் வாருங்கள் என்று சொல்லிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

4. And they say, 'Give help, let us build for ourselves a city and tower, and its head in the heavens, and make for ourselves a name, lest we be scattered over the face of all the earth.'

5. மனுபுத்திரர் கட்டுகிற நகரத்தையும் கோபுரத்தையும் பார்க்கிறதற்குக் கர்த்தர் இறங்கினார்.

5. And Jehovah cometh down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men have builded;

6. அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர்: இதோ, ஜனங்கள் ஒரே கூட்டமாய் இருக்கிறார்கள்; அவர்கள் அனைவருக்கும் ஒரே பாஷையும் இருக்கிறது; அவர்கள் இதைச் செய்யத்தொடங்கினார்கள்; இப்பொழுதும் தாங்கள் செய்ய நினைத்தது ஒன்றும் தடைபடமாட்டாது என்று இருக்கிறார்கள்.

6. and Jehovah saith, 'Lo, the people [is] one, and one pronunciation [is] to them all, and this it hath dreamed of doing; and now, nothing is restrained from them of that which they have purposed to do.

7. நாம் இறங்கிப்போய், ஒருவர் பேசுவதை மற்றொருவர் அறியாதபடிக்கு, அங்கே அவர்கள் பாஷையைத் தாறுமாறாக்குவோம் என்றார்.

7. Give help, let us go down, and mingle there their pronunciation, so that a man doth not understand the pronunciation of his companion.'

8. அப்படியே கர்த்தர் அவர்களை அவ்விடத்திலிருந்து பூமியின்மீதெங்கும் சிதறிப்போகப்பண்ணினார்; அப்பொழுது நகரம் கட்டுகிறதை விட்டுவிட்டார்கள்.

8. And Jehovah doth scatter them from thence over the face of all the earth, and they cease to build the city;

9. பூமியெங்கும் வழங்கின பாஷையைக் கர்த்தர் அவ்விடத்தில் தாறுமாறாக்கினபடியால், அதின் பேர் பாபேல் என்னப்பட்டது; கர்த்தர் அவர்களை அவ்விடத்திலிருந்து பூமியின்மீதெங்கும் சிதறிப்போகப்பண்ணினார்.

9. therefore hath [one] called its name Babel, for there hath Jehovah mingled the pronunciation of all the earth, and from thence hath Jehovah scattered them over the face of all the earth.

10. சேமுடைய வம்சவரலாறு: ஜலப்பிரளயம் உண்டாகி இரண்டு வருஷத்திற்குப் பின்பு, சேம் நூறுவயதானபோது, அர்பக்சாத்தைப் பெற்றான்.

10. These [are] births of Shem: Shem [is] a son of an hundred years, and begetteth Arphaxad two years after the deluge.

11. சேம் அர்பக்சாத்தைப் பெற்றபின் ஐந்நூறு வருஷம் உயிரோடிருந்து, குமாரரையும் குமாரத்திகளையும் பெற்றான்.

11. And Shem liveth after his begetting Arphaxad five hundred years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

12. அர்பக்சாத் முப்பத்தைந்து வயதானபோது சாலாவைப் பெற்றான்.

12. And Arphaxad hath lived five and thirty years, and begetteth Salah.

13. சாலாவைப் பெற்றபின் அர்பக்சாத் நானூற்று மூன்று வருஷம் உயிரோடிருந்து, குமாரரையும் குமாரத்திகளையும் பெற்றான்.

13. And Arphaxad liveth after his begetting Salah four hundred and three years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

14. சாலா முப்பது வயதானபோது, ஏபேரைப் பெற்றான்.

14. And Salah hath lived thirty years, and begetteth Eber.

15. ஏபேரைப் பெற்றபின் சாலா நானூற்று மூன்று வருஷம் உயிரோடிருந்து, குமாரரையும் குமாரத்திகளையும் பெற்றான்.

15. And Salah liveth after his begetting Eber four hundred and three years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

16. ஏபேர் முப்பத்துநாலு வயதானபோது, பேலேகைப் பெற்றான்.

16. And Eber liveth four and thirty years, and begetteth Peleg.

17. பேலேகைப் பெற்றபின் ஏபேர் நானூற்று முப்பது வருஷம் உயிரோடிருந்து, குமாரரையும் குமாரத்திகளையும் பெற்றான்.

17. And Eber liveth after his begetting Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

18. பேலேகு முப்பது வயதானபோது, ரெகூவைப் பெற்றான்.

18. And Peleg liveth thirty years, and begetteth Reu.

19. ரெகூவைப் பெற்றபின் பேலேகு இருநூற்றொன்பது வருஷம் உயிரோடிருந்து, குமாரரையும் குமாரத்திகளையும் பெற்றான்.

19. And Peleg liveth after his begetting Reu two hundred and nine years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

20. ரெகூ முப்பத்திரண்டு வயதானபோது, செரூகைப் பெற்றான்.

20. And Reu liveth two and thirty years, and begetteth Serug.

21. செரூகைப் பெற்றபின் ரெகூ இருநூற்றேழு வருஷம் உயிரோடிருந்து, குமாரரையும் குமாரத்திகளையும் பெற்றான்.

21. And Reu liveth after his begetting Serug two hundred and seven years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

22. செரூகு முப்பது வயதானபோது, நாகோரைப் பெற்றான்.

22. And Serug liveth thirty years, and begetteth Nahor.

23. நாகோரைப் பெற்றபின் செரூகு இருநூறு வருஷம் உயிரோடிருந்து, குமாரரையும் குமாரத்திகளையும் பெற்றான்.

23. And Serug liveth after his begetting Nahor two hundred years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

24. நாகோர் இருபத்தொன்பது வயதானபோது, தேராகைப் பெற்றான்.

24. And Nahor liveth nine and twenty years, and begetteth Terah.

25. தேராகைப் பெற்றபின் நாகோர் நூற்றுப்பத்தொன்பது வருஷம் உயிரோடிருந்து, குமாரரையும் குமாரத்திகளையும் பெற்றான்.

25. And Nahor liveth after his begetting Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

26. தேராகு எழுபது வயதானபோது, ஆபிராம், நாகோர், ஆரான் என்பவர்களைப் பெற்றான்.

26. And Terah liveth seventy years, and begetteth Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

27. தேராகுடைய வம்சவரலாறு: தேராகு ஆபிராம், நாகோர், ஆரான் என்பவர்களைப் பெற்றான்; ஆரான் லோத்தைப் பெற்றான்.

27. And these [are] births of Terah: Terah hath begotten Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran hath begotten Lot;

28. ஆரான் தன் ஜந்மபூமியாகிய ஊர் என்கிற கல்தேயர் தேசத்துப் பட்டணத்திலே தன் தகப்பனாகிய தேராகு மரிக்குமுன்னே மரித்தான்.

28. and Haran dieth in the presence of Terah his father, in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldees.

29. ஆபிராமும் நாகோரும் தங்களுக்குப் பெண் கொண்டார்கள்; ஆபிராமுடைய மனைவிக்குச் சாராய் என்று பேர்; நாகோருடைய மனைவிக்கு மில்க்காள் என்று பேர்; இவள் ஆரானுடைய குமாரத்தி; அந்த ஆரான் மில்க்காளுக்கும் இஸ்காளுக்கும் தகப்பன்.

29. And Abram and Nahor take to themselves wives; the name of Abram's wife [is] Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife [is] Milcah, daughter of Haran, father of Milcah, and father of Iscah.

30. சாராய்க்குப் பிள்ளையில்லை; மலடியாயிருந்தாள்.

30. And Sarai is barren -- she hath no child.

31. தேராகு தன் குமாரனாகிய ஆபிராமையும், ஆரானுடைய குமாரனும், தன் பேரனுமாயிருந்த லோத்தையும், தன் குமாரன் ஆபிராமுடைய மனைவியாகிய தன் மருமகள் சாராயையும் அழைத்துக்கொண்டு, அவர்களுடனே ஊர் என்கிற கல்தேயருடைய பட்டணத்தை விட்டு, கானான் தேசத்துக்குப் போகப் புறப்பட்டான்; அவர்கள் ஆரான் மட்டும் வந்தபோது, அங்கே இருந்துவிட்டார்கள்.

31. And Terah taketh Abram his son, and Lot, son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, wife of Abram his son, and they go out with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go towards the land of Canaan; and they come unto Charan, and dwell there.

32. தேராகுடைய ஆயுசு நாட்கள் இருநூற்றைந்து வருஷம்; தேராகு ஆரானிலே மரித்தான்.

32. And the days of Terah are two hundred and five years, and Terah dieth in Charan.
