1. பென்யமீன் கோத்திரத்தாரில் கீஸ் என்னும் பேருள்ள மகா பராக்கிரமசாலியான ஒரு மனுஷன் இருந்தான்; அவன் பென்யமீன் கோத்திரத்தானாகிய அபியாவின் மகனான பெகோராத்திற்குப் பிறந்த சேரோரின் புத்திரனாகிய அபீயேலின் குமாரன்.

1. There was nowe a man of Beniamin, mightie in power named Kish, the sonne of Abiel, the sonne of Zeror, the sonne of Bechorath, the sonne of Aphiah, the sonne of a man of Iemini.

2. அவனுக்குச் சவுல் என்னும் பேருள்ள சவுந்தரியமான வாலிபனாகிய ஒரு குமாரன் இருந்தான்; இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரில் அவனைப்பார்க்கிலும் சவுந்தரியவான் இல்லை; எல்லா ஜனங்களும் அவன் தோளுக்குக் கீழாயிருக்கத்தக்க உயரமுள்ளவனாயிருந்தான்.

2. And he had a sonne called Saul, a goodly yong man and a faire: so that among the children of Israel there was none goodlier then he: from the shoulders vpwarde he was hier then any of the people.

3. சவுலின் தகப்பனாகிய கீசுடைய கழுதைகள் காணாமற்போயிற்று; ஆகையால் கீஸ் தன் குமாரனாகிய சவுலை நோக்கி: நீ வேலைக்காரரில் ஒருவனைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, கழுதைகளைத் தேட, புறப்பட்டுப்போ என்றான்.

3. And the asses of Kish Sauls father were lost: therefore Kish said to Saul his sonne, Take nowe one of the seruants with thee, and arise, goe, and seeke the asses.

4. அப்படியே அவன் எப்பிராயீம் மலைகளையும் சலீஷா நாட்டையும் கடந்துபோனான்; அங்கே அவைகளைக் காணாமல் சாலீம் நாட்டைக் கடந்தார்கள். அங்கேயும் காணவில்லை; பென்யமீன் நாட்டை உருவக்கடந்தும் அவைகளைக் காணவில்லை.

4. So he passed through mount Ephraim, and went through the lande of Shalishah, but they found them not. Then they went through the land of Shalim, and there they were not: he went also through ye land of Iemini, but they found the not.

5. அவர்கள் சூப் என்னும் நாட்டிற்கு வந்தபோது, சவுல் தன்னோடிருந்த வேலைக்காரனை நோக்கி: என் தகப்பன், கழுதைகளின் மேலுள்ள கவலையை விட்டு, நமக்காகக் கவலைப்படாதபடிக்குத் திரும்பிப்போவோம் வா என்றான்.

5. When they came to the lande of Zuph, Saul saide vnto his seruant that was with him, Come and let vs returne, lest my father leaue the care of asses, and take thought for vs.

6. அதற்கு அவன்: இதோ, இந்தப் பட்டணத்திலே தேவனுடைய மனுஷன் ஒருவர் இருக்கிறார்; அவர் பெரியவர்; அவர் சொல்லுகிறதெல்லாம் தப்பாமல் நடக்கும்; அங்கே போவோம்; ஒரு வேளை அவர் நாம் போகவேண்டிய நம்முடைய வழியை நமக்குத் தெரிவிப்பார் என்றான்.

6. And he said vnto him, Behold nowe, in this citie is a man of God, and he is an honorable man: all that he saith commeth to passe: let vs nowe goe thither, if so be that he can shewe vs what way we may goe.

7. அப்பொழுது சவுல் தன் வேலைக்காரனைப் பார்த்து: நாம் போனாலும் அந்த மனுஷனுக்கு என்னத்தைக் கொண்டுபோவோம்; நம்முடைய பைகளில் இருந்த தின்பண்டங்கள் செலவழிந்து போயிற்று; தேவனுடைய மனுஷனாகிய அவருக்குக் கொண்டு போகத்தக்க காணிக்கை நம்மிடத்தில் ஒன்றும் இல்லையே என்றான்.

7. Then saide Saul to his seruant, Well then, let vs goe: but what shall we bring vnto the man? For the bread is spent in our vessels, and there is no present to bring to the man of God: what haue we?

8. அந்த வேலைக்காரன் பின்னும் சவுலைப் பார்த்து: இதோ, என் கையில் இன்னும் கால்சேக்கல் வெள்ளியிருக்கிறது; தேவனுடைய மனுஷன் நமக்கு நம்முடைய வழியை அறிவிக்கும்படிக்கு, அதை அவருக்குக் கொடுப்பேன் என்றான்.

8. And the seruant answered Saul againe, and said, Beholde, I haue founde about me the fourth part of a shekell of siluer: that will I giue the man of God, to tell vs our way.

9. முற்காலத்தில் இஸ்ரவேலில் யாதொருவர் தேவனிடத்தில் விசாரிக்கப்போனால், ஞானதிஷ்டிக்காரனிடத்திற்குப் போவோம் வாருங்கள் என்பார்கள்; இந்நாளிலே தீர்க்கதரிசி என்னப்படுகிறவன் முற்காலத்தில் ஞானதிஷ்டிக்காரன் என்னப்படுவான்.

9. (Beforetime in Israel when a man went to seeke an answere of God, thus he spake, Come, and let vs goe to the Seer: for he that is called nowe a Prophet, was in the olde time called a Seer)

10. அப்பொழுது சவுல் தன் வேலைக்காரனை நோக்கி: நல்ல காரியம் சொன்னாய், போவோம் வா என்றான்; அப்படியே தேவனுடைய மனுஷன் இருந்த அந்தப் பட்டணத்திற்குப் போனார்கள்.

10. Then saide Saul to his seruant, Well saide, come, let vs goe: so they went into the citie where the man of God was.

11. அவர்கள் பட்டணத்து மேட்டின் வழியாய் ஏறுகிறபோது, தண்ணீர் எடுக்கவந்த பெண்களைக் கண்டு: ஞானதிஷ்டிக்காரன் இங்கே இருக்கிறாரா என்று அவர்களைக் கேட்டார்கள்.

11. And as they were going vp the hie way to the citie, they found maydes that came out to draw water, and said vnto them, Is there here a Seer?

12. அதற்கு அவர்கள்: இருக்கிறார்; இதோ, உங்களுக்கு எதிரே இருக்கிறார்; தீவிரமாய்ப் போங்கள்; இன்றைக்கு ஜனங்கள் மேடையில் பலியிடுகிறபடியினால், இன்றையதினம் பட்டணத்திற்கு வந்தார்.

12. And they answered them, and said, Yea: loe, he is before you: make haste nowe, for he came this day to the citie: for there is an offering of the people this day in the hie place.

13. நீங்கள் பட்டணத்திற்குள் பிரவேசித்தவுடனே, அவர் மேடையின்மேல் போஜனம் பண்ணப்போகிறதற்கு முன்னே அவரைக் காண்பீர்கள்; அவர் வருமட்டும் ஜனங்கள் போஜனம் பண்ணமாட்டார்கள்; பலியிட்டதை அவர் ஆசீர்வதிப்பார்; பின்பு அழைக்கப்பட்டவர்கள் போஜனம் பண்ணுவார்கள்; உடனே போங்கள்; இந்நேரத்திலே அவரைக் கண்டுகொள்ளலாம் என்றார்கள்.

13. When ye shall come into the citie, ye shall finde him straightway yet he come vp to the hie place to eate: for the people will not eate vntill he come, because he will blesse the sacrifice: and then eate they that be bidden to the feast: nowe therefore goe vp: for euen now shall ye find him.

14. அவர்கள் பட்டணத்திற்குப் போய், பட்டணத்தின் நடுவே சேர்ந்தபோது, இதோ, சாமுவேல் மேடையின்மேல் ஏறிப்போகிறதற்காக, அவர்களுக்கு எதிரே புறப்பட்டு வந்தான்.

14. Then they went vp into the citie, and when they were come into the middes of the citie, Samuel came out against them, to goe vp to the hie place.

15. சவுல் வர ஒரு நாளுக்கு முன்னே கர்த்தர் சாமுவேலின் காது கேட்க:

15. But the Lord had reueiled to Samuel secretly (a day before Saul came) saying,

16. நாளை இந்நேரத்திற்குப் பென்யமீன் நாட்டானாகிய ஒரு மனுஷனை உன்னிடத்தில் அனுப்புவேன்; அவனை என் ஜனமாகிய இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் அதிபதியாக அபிஷேகம்பண்ணக்கடவாய்; அவன் என் ஜனத்தைப் பெலிஸ்தரின் கைக்கு நீங்கலாக்கி இரட்சிப்பான்; என் ஜனத்தின் முறையிடுதல் என்னிடத்தில் வந்து எட்டினபடியினால், நான் அவர்களைக் கடாட்சித்தேன் என்று வெளிப்படுத்தியிருந்தார்.

16. To morow about this time I will send thee a man out of the land of Beniamin: him shalt thou anoint to be gouernour ouer my people Israel, that he may saue my people out of the hands of the Philistims: for I haue looked vpon my people, and their crie is come vnto me.

17. சாமுவேல் சவுலைக் கண்டபோது, கர்த்தர் அவனிடத்தில்: இதோ, நான் உனக்குச் சொல்லியிருந்த மனுஷன் இவனே; இவன்தான் என் ஜனத்தை ஆளுவான் என்றார்.

17. When Samuel therefore sawe Saul, the Lord answered him, See, this is the man whom I spake to thee of, he shall rule my people.

18. சவுல் நடுவாசலிலே சாமுவேலிடத்தில் வந்து: ஞானதிஷ்டிக்காரன் வீடு எங்கே, சொல்லும் என்று கேட்டான்.

18. Then went Saul to Samuel in the middes of the gate, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, where the Seers house is.

19. சாமுவேல் சவுலுக்குப் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: ஞானதிஷ்டிக்காரன் நான்தான்; நீ எனக்கு முன்னே மேடையின்மேல் ஏறிப்போ; நீங்கள் இன்றைக்கு என்னோடே போஜனம்பண்ணவேண்டும்; நாளைக்காலமே நான் உன் இருதயத்தில் உள்ளது எல்லாவற்றையும் உனக்கு அறிவித்து, உன்னை அனுப்பிவிடுவேன்.

19. And Samuel answered Saul, and saide, I am the Seer: goe vp before me vnto the hie place: for ye shall eate with me to day. and to morowe I will let thee goe, and will tell thee all that is in thine heart.

20. மூன்று நாளைக்கு முன்னே காணாமற்போன கழுதைகளைப்பற்றிக் கவலைப்படவேண்டாம்; அவைகள் அகப்பட்டது; இதல்லாமல் சகல இஸ்ரவேலின் அபேட்சையும் யாரை நாடுகிறது? உன்னையும் உன் வீட்டார் அனைவரையும் அல்லவா? என்றான்.

20. And as for thine asses that were lost three dayes ago, care not for them: for they are founde. and on whom is set all the desire of Israel? is it not vpon thee and on all thy fathers house?

21. அப்பொழுது சவுல் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: நான் இஸ்ரவேல் கோத்திரங்களிலே சிறிதான பென்யமீன் கோத்திரத்தான் அல்லவா? பென்யமீன் கோத்திரத்துக் குடும்பங்களிலெல்லாம் என் குடும்பம் அற்பமானது அல்லவா? நீர் இப்படிப்பட்ட வார்த்தையை என்னிடத்தில் சொல்வானேன் என்றான்.

21. But Saul answered, and said, Am not I the sonne of Iemini of the smallest tribe of Israel? and my familie is the least of all the families of the tribe of Beniamin. Wherefore then speakest thou so to me?

22. சாமுவேல் சவுலையும் அவன் வேலைக்காரனையும் போஜனசாலைக்குள் அழைத்துக்கொண்டுபோய், அவர்களை அழைக்கப்பட்டவர்களுக்குள்ளே தலைமையான இடத்திலே வைத்தான்; அழைக்கப்பட்டவர்கள் ஏறக்குறைய முப்பது பேராயிருந்தார்கள்.

22. And Samuel tooke Saul and his seruant, and brought them into the chamber, and made them sit in the chiefest place among them that were bidden: which were about thirtie persons.

23. பின்பு சாமுவேல் சமையற்காரனைப் பார்த்து: நான் உன் கையிலே ஒரு பங்கைக் கொடுத்துவைத்தேனே, அதைக் கொண்டுவந்து வை என்றான்.

23. And Samuel saide vnto the cooke, Bring foorth the portion which I gaue thee, and whereof I said vnto thee, Keepe it with thee.

24. அப்பொழுது சமையற்காரன், ஒரு முன்னந்தொடையையும், அதனோடிருந்ததையும் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு வந்து அதை சவுலுக்கு முன் வைத்தான்; அப்பொழுது சாமுவேல்: இதோ, இது உனக்கென்று வைக்கப்பட்டது, இதை உனக்கு முன்பாக வைத்துச் சாப்பிடு; நான் ஜனங்களை விருந்துக்கு அழைத்தது முதல், இதுவரைக்கும் இது உனக்காக வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது என்றான்; அப்படியே சவுல் அன்றையதினம் சாமுவேலோடே சாப்பிட்டான்.

24. And the cooke tooke vp the shoulder, and that which was vpon it, and set it before Saul. And Samuel said, Beholde, that which is left, set it before thee and eate: for hitherto hath it bene kept for thee, saying, Also I haue called the people. So Saul did eate with Samuel that day.

25. அவர்கள் மேடையிலிருந்து பட்டணத்திற்கு இறங்கி வந்தபின்பு, அவன் மேல்வீட்டிலே சவுலோடே பேசிக்கொண்டிருந்தான்.

25. And when they were come downe from the hie place into the citie, he communed with Saul vpon the top of the house.

26. அவர்கள் அதிகாலமே கிழக்கு வெளுக்கிற நேரத்தில் எழுந்திருந்தபோது, சாமுவேல் சவுலை மேல்வீட்டின்மேல் அழைத்து: நான் உன்னை அனுப்பிவிடும்படிக்கு ஆயத்தப்படு என்றான்; சவுல் ஆயத்தப்பட்டபோது, அவனும் சாமுவேலும் இருவருமாக வெளியே புறப்பட்டார்கள்.

26. And when they arose early about ye spring of the day, Samuel called Saul to the top of the house, saying, Vp, that I may send thee away. And Saul arose, and they went out, both he, and Samuel.

27. அவர்கள் பட்டணத்தின் கடைசிமட்டும் இறங்கிவந்தபோது, சாமுவேல் சவுலைப் பார்த்து: வேலைக்காரனை நமக்கு முன்னே நடந்துபோகச் சொல் என்றான்; அப்படியே அவன் நடந்துபோனான்; இப்பொழுது நான் தேவனுடைய வார்த்தையை உனக்குத் தெரிவிக்கும்படிக்கு, நீ சற்றே தரித்து நில் என்றான்.

27. And when they were come downe to the ende of the citie, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the seruant goe before vs, (and he went) but stand thou still nowe, that I may shewe thee the worde of God.
